Isabella's POV

The storm in my chest was reflected in the severity of the outer one. Rain pounded at the windows, the wind roaring like a night predator hunting. I stood by the fireplace, the flickering flames hardly warming the cold knot in my gut.

You cannot avoid me."Luke's body pressed into mine, his presence shielding, yet as he moved to attempt to save me with every last bit of power, there was trembling in his grasp. It came short. Not yet.Though the uncertainty bit his voice, chewing at his assurance, Luke said furiously in my ear, "I won't let him hurt you." I sensed the terror coming from him. I owed it to someone. His pulse slowed by the second, his skin was cool, and I could hear his laboured, shallow, as though every breath was a fight.
