Xander's pov

Stepping out of the office with Rowan and Magnus flanking my sides, I'm greeted by warriors stationed in the hallway, omegas and human servants alike going about their daily task.

Looking out one of the windows in the hallway I spot the carriages that have brought the humans. The humans were being led out by warriors from each carriage.

I spot a flash of silver hair belonging to one of the humans from the silverclaw pack. A female. Something about her drew me in, I couldn't see her face yet as she seemed to be shielding her eyes from the sun.

A throat cleared, it was Magnus signaling that we should keep moving. Pulling myself away from the window we continued on our journey down.

Upon getting to the ground floor where the throne room was situated, my ears picked up the sound of something or someone being dragged, there was some sort of struggle.

Magnus, Rowan and I all shared a look. Could it be a human? That was impossible, they all feared us and dared not to even breathe wrongly in our direction plus they were all corporate when I looked out the window.

“Could be some omegas messing around.” Rowan said with a shrug. Before continuing to the throne room. I will find whoever was responsible for this ruckus and deal with them later.

We all walked to the throne room. The throne room was large with dark obsidian pillars, dark stone flooring, perfectly sculpted faces of all the previous alpha kings and queen lunas lined up against the walls on either side. A lot of blood has been shed in this room, faint crimson blood stains here and there, a reminder of what could happen if you step out of line. Lives have also been saved here, laws have been passed, deus has been paid and dreams have been fulfilled here. The throne sat massively at the end with enormous windows behind it, whenever a king passed on or stepped down for the new alpha, his favorite weapon would be smelted unto the throne. The throne was built on the ashes of the seven humans who initiated the war and the skull of their leader mounted on top, a reminder of what's to come if the humans try to go to war with them again.

Walking up to the throne, I pause and look at it, a remainder of all the responsibilities I had on my shoulders, the weight of the world. My crown rested on the armrest, gleaming under the sunlight filtering in from the windows, the crown has 10 gems, each representing a pack.

With a sigh I sat on the throne and waited for the arrival of the humans as they were led in. Lyra walks in not long after offering me a curt nod then taking her sit in one of the four chairs in front of me.

One for the gamma, one for the beta, one for each sibling.

The ruckus continued this time getting closer to the throne room. The warriors by the door opened it up revealing a captain dragging a thrashing human.

Silver hair… I thought to myself.

My nose picked up a delightful blend of frosted berries and wild honey laced with a delicate sweetness of vanilla orchid, this made my wolf purr within me.

The human had the same silver hair I had spotted from the window upstairs. I watched as they continued to brawl, neither realizing that they had arrived at the throne room.

The fiest human leaned forward and bit the warrior, a captain I presumed, hard drawing blood. With a shriek he released her.

She was a fighter. My breath caught in my throat as I caught sight of her face, she was stunning. Something stirred deep within me, I didn't know what it was.

“What's that Leo?” I asked my wolf, Leo.

“I don't know, but the human…there's something about her”. Leo responded.

The captain brought out his claw about to strike when Leo suddenly pushed forward, momentarily taking over from Xander and yelled.

“Stop!”.

The command reverberated in the castle. My alpha presence is fully immersed in it. All the werewolves present immediately bowed, forced into submission by the gravity of the command.

The Captain's claws immediately retracted as he bowed. The humans also felt the weight of my command, some quivered in fear, looking like they were about to piss themselves. The castle went pin drop silent.

The silver haired girl however seemed to only be light affected by this. This got me curious.

“What's going on here?” I asked, gaze pinned on the captain.

“Sir…” he started but trailed off.

I do not like to repeat myself so this ticked me off. I could smell the fear radiating off of him. Sliding my gaze to the human I find her gaze already pinned on me.

Her eyes… I thought, sucking in a sharp breath.

They were otherworldly, crystal blue. Like gems in place of her eyes. I felt like he was drowning in her eyes, I scanned her face and she looked like she had fallen out of the heavens, placed on earth by the moon goddess herself.

We locked eyes for what felt like an eternity but was merely a couple of seconds, drinking in each other's appearance. My eyes drifted down scanning her figure, although she was on the floor bundled in winter clothing that must be too hot for her in this weather, I could see a peek of pale smooth skin, a skin that he wanted to tinge red.

What the hell?... I thought to myself.

Where were these thoughts coming from? What's happening? Is this another plot of humans to try and bewitch me?

The unsettling sensation from the office was back, thousands of questions continue to run through my head all at once. Whatever is going on I was surely going to get to the bottom of it and put an end to it.

I thought to myself. His eyes strayed away from my face and began scanning him. My face was flaming hot, his eyes were undressing me, smearing heat across my skin. This isn't me. Is this some new skill they have acquired? Bewitching humans to make them comply?...I thought to myself. Finally, after what felt like an eternity but was actually a couple of minutes, his gaze left my body and went back to the captain.“State your name, pack and rank.” The king ordered. The captain straightened his spine and went into full warrior mode.“Captain Rhysand Ryker of stormfang pack.” The captain stated.“Rhysand Ryker, noted.” I muttered under my breath.“Well, captain. Do you care to explain the ruckus you just caused at my castle.” The king asked, face dead serious and tone sharp.I heard captain Ryker suck in a deep bre

Ava's povI could feel eyes on me, more murmurs erupted, everyone was just as confused as I was.Why her? Why the sudden change of heart? What about his mate? Did the human do something to him…a mixture of voices could be heard, I was overwhelmed.“Enough!” The king ordered, his voice ringing in the throne room. Immediately the room became silent as though there weren't any people in it.“You, Ava Sinclair, I have chosen to be my personal entertainer.” He said, gaze locked with mine.I couldn't believe my ears. It's common knowledge that the king has never had a personal entertainer as he has been saving himself for his mate whom he has been searching for, for what felt like an eternity. At this point I wish the ground would just open up and swallow me whole. I said silent prayers in mind to whatever supreme being that was listening to let this either be a joke or a dream. Let the king either laugh at me and call it a jest or let me wake up because this can't be happening.I wasn't ju

Ava’s pov“This will be your quarter.” The king said behind me.Turning, I glanced up at him then asked. “Why?”He understood what I was asking. Usually servants live together in shared quarters, so having my own room in a different wing in the castle was rather strange.“You're my personal entertainer, meaning you are under my care and protection now. You will serve me alone, no one else. Hence, you require a certain accommodation.” He said with an unreadable expression. “You are a royal entertainer, not a common one, so you will have some things differently.”“Royal entertainer, not a common one” is that supposed to make me feel better? Me being a slut for the king… I thought in disgust.“Care and protection?” I repeated in disbelief. “Is that what you and your people call this? Taking us away from our families, forcing us to be your servant, forcing me to be your—” I couldn't even bring myself to say it.His jaw tightened, expression turning deadly at the disrespect. Xander's povWait, what am I doing?... I wondered. Why do I suddenly care if a human gets hurt due to her own words? She knows not to test me, this should serve as an example to the others.“Magnus, Kane.” I called out through the pack link.“We're on our way.” Magnus replied.“Don't bother, it's nothing to fret over. I simply overreacted.” I told them.“Are you sure? You sounded desperate, alpha.” This time it was Draven who spoke.“Don't question my decision!” I yelled at them growing irritated at their hesitance. “When I give an order you follow, it's as simple as that.”I stood up and dropped the girl on the floor and watched as she bled, something tugged inside me but I chose to ignore it. I am not going to fall for whatever witchcraft these petty humans have dabbled in.I grabbed her hand then dragged her limp body out of the room back to the throne room. Xander's povIt was the next day and I was in a study trying to finish up some work that I couldn't do the previous night due to the constant pull to go check up on Ava.After giving her the vial the tug and pain in my chest stopped and I could finally think. A knock sounded at my door breaking my train of thoughts.“Come in.” I ordered without looking up from the documents on my desk. There was a good shortage in silverclaw pack due to the harsh winter so I needed to get more food for them.“Good morning, your majesty.” The person said to make me look up and I saw that it was Mary. “Go ahead?” I calmly said, shifting my gaze to what I was doing. “The servant, Ava, miraculously survived through the night and some of her injuries are gone. Although, the major ones like her leg aren't completely healed.” She said,“Good, have her meet me in the dining hall.” I said in a dismissive tone and went back to my task.I paused when I realized that she was still in my office and hadn't moved

Ava's povI cursed him with everything in me, I hated him. The flesh in my leg that had started to heal ripped opened as I knelt down next to him.I knew he could smell my blood, they all did. I was in excruciating pain, my mind kept wondering back to the night of the incident. He looked like he regretted what he did before I blacked out but I guess that was just my mind playing tricks with me because the man before me didn't even have an ounce of regret.I bit my lip to hold back my cry of pain, tears welled in my eyes but I refused to let a single one fall. My belly rumbles in hunger as I hadn't eaten since I woke up because the alpha had requested my presence. They were talking and laughing as though a girl wasn't bleeding onto the floor right now, they were really disgusting. I tried my best to tune them out, it wasn't even hard because I had the excruciating pain to focus on.“Ava.” I heard him call out, I had hoped he'd choke on his food and die.I didn't look up as Madam Mary h

Maybe if I hadn't been so defiant I wouldn't be here suffering this much.I gathered the alpha's dishes in my arms and began limping to the kitchen leaving a trail of blood in my wake, other servants began to pack up the rest.I was almost at the servant's entrance to the kitchen when I heard, “wait.”It was the alpha, again. I had barely been a day since I had been chosen as his personal entertainer and I was about to kill myself. With great difficulty I turned to him, his gaze wasn't on me but on Vanessa. “Who is she?” He asked.Everyone paused to watch, confused at what was going on. “What do you mean, Alpha?” Vanessa asked.“I don't like to repeat myself.” He replied.“She's your personal entertainer.” Vanessa replied.“That she is. Rowan's POVLyra’s breathing had finally evened out beside me, a soft, steady rhythm that showed that she was finally at ease and I was glad. She didn’t say another word after I wrapped the blanket around her and sat by her side. She didn’t need to.I looked at her, really looked. Her face had lost weight in the past months, the edges sharper now—grief had carved out the softness she once had so effortlessly. The dark, sunken circles beneath her eyes told me she hadn’t been sleeping much. And even now, in the calm after the war, her body was tense beneath the blanket, like she was ready to spring awake at any given time if someone so much as touched her. .But she had opened up.That alone made something in my chest unclench for the first time in weeks.I tilted my head back, let my eyes gaze up to the stars, but even their beauty felt muted tonight. Everything felt… dulled. Like we’d survived the fire, only to emerge into the ashes. But she talked. She talked. And I’d take that over

Lyra’s POVThe fire had burned down to little fire, and one by one, they drifted off to sleep. Ava had fallen asleep curled against Xander’s chest. Vanessa and Kael were tangled up on a blanket near the edge of the camp, whispering and grinning like the war had never happened and they were in some sort of fairytale. Like they’d known peace all their lives.I was happy and envious of them so I forced myself to look away.Rowan had stayed with me.He always did.By the time the last bit of fire was snuffed and silence had settled over the camp, he rose, wordless, and offered me his hand. I took it, letting him guide me away from the others, deeper into the shadows where the weight of their stares couldn’t follow. We walked to a place in Ashville that we liked. It was a little hill above the camp where the entire land could be seen and the sky felt so close. The stars were particularly bright on that night, I just stood there and took a deep breath. The night air was cold, crisp, almost

Lyra’s povI don't know how long we sat there but I had droned out their conversation as I watched the burning fire. Suddenly, I felt the air shift. It wasn't the regular shift. But this time, it was different.Tense. Sharp.I knew why.I could feel it, their eyes were on me.And they deserved answers.I just wasn’t sure I had the strength to give them.Rowan came even closer, a steady wall beside me, his warmth grounding. He hadn't spoken much, just held my hand quietly under the blanket we shared. It should’ve comforted me more than it did. But the guilt clung to me, curling in my chest like a shadow that refused to be exorcised.I peeped at Ava across the fire, her knees were pulled to her chest, arms loosely wrapped around them. Xander had stood up and was standing just behind her, arms crossed, his gaze unreadable as it flicked from person to person—though it lingered on me more often than not.I was almost certain I could go the night without a word being said. That they’d keep

Lyra’s POVThe crackling of the campfire sounded distant just like the faint sound of voices laughing and talking. Familiar voices. Ones that once meant comfort and strength. Now, they sounded foreign and distant, like echoes bouncing off the thick stone walls of guilt I had built around myself.I sat wrapped in my cloak, hood drawn low, body leaning into Rowan’s side. His warmth was steady, grounding. I could feel his heart through the fabric, steady as a drum, but there was a tension in the way he held me. He didn’t trust me—not entirely. I didn’t blame him. They had every right not to.Ashville was ruined. The war was over. And I had helped start it. They just didn't know that.I didn’t know how to look them in the eyes, not after what I had done.Ava’s laugh echoed through the air, loud and carefree, like birds chirping and singing during the summer. She teased Vanessa about how she once fought her over Xander. Vanessa rolled her eyes but smiled, her fingers tangled with Kael’s. I

Ava's povThe fire crackled in the center of our circle, its warm glow and embers floating up to the dark sky above us. The scent of roasted meat and earth filled the air. It was the first night in what felt like centuries that I didn’t have to look over my shoulder or hold a weapon while I slept. We had won.The war was over. Zerathos was gone alongside his shadows and forge. It was a tough battle but we won in the end and that's all that mattered. The camp was quiet, solemn in places, and slowly coming back to life in others. Rebuilding had started before the ashes were even cold. We’d spent the entire day helping—healing, carrying, burying. Holding hands that trembled with grief. Offering words to those who could still barely believe they’d survived. It was exhausting in a new kind of way—no longer physical, but emotional. And now, for the first time in weeks, we sat around a fire without dread thick in the air. Just six of us. Allies through it all. Survivors of chaos.Ava sat bes

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 217

Ava’s POVThe morning after the final battle was a strange kind of quiet. Not silence, exactly—there were still murmurs, the crackle of the early fires, the low sobs of those mourning their fallen, and the laughter of those too happy not to laugh. It was a quiet that came after chaos, the kind that felt borrowed, fragile, as if the world was holding its breath, unsure if the war was truly over. But it was.Zerathos was gone. His shadows had dispersed, leaving behind only the smell of ash and blood.I stood at the edge of the ruins that had once been the main part of our camp, the place where strategy was whispered and sleepless nights were passed in tense silence. Now it was littered with broken weapons, scorched earth, and fat too many lifeless bodies.Kael called out names from a growing list, his voice steady despite the tremble in it. Vanessa stood beside him, her hand in his, as they honored each name with a nod and a moment of silence. Rowan knelt by the body of one of his falle

Ava’s POVLyra was a blur of shadows, her body twisting and jerking with the force of a nightmare that had fully claimed her. Her eyes were two hollow pits of blackness, her once vibrant blue eyes now lost beneath an abyss. The very air around her seemed to tremble with the power of Zerathos’ dark magic, and the wail that tore from her throat was not the sound of her voice anymore. It was something ancient, something malevolent, echoing in the very bones of the earth beneath us.Xander’s blade clashed with hers as she lunged at him again, but there was no recognition in her movements—just raw, unfiltered rage. The Lyra I knew, the sister of Rowan, the one who had laughed with me and shared secrets in the quiet corners of our kingdom, was gone.“Lyra!” Rowan screamed, his voice was raw and hoarse, breaking with the anguish of a twin who had just watched his sibling become something unrecognizable. His voice was a beacon of desperation, but it did nothing to stop the creature she had be

Ava’s POVThe ground trembled beneath our feet as Lyra's form charged toward Xander with unnatural strength, the sound of her shrieking filling the air with an unnatural, bone-chilling shrill. Her movements were too fast, too erratic, her body a twisted mockery of the sister I knew. Her eyes, once silver with kindness, now pulsed with an abyssal blackness—pools of darkness that swallowed any light. She was lost. But I refused to believe it. Not completely. Not yet.“Xander, MOVE!” I shouted, pushing myself forward, my heart hammering against my ribcage. I couldn’t lose him. Not now.Xander barely had time to react before Lyra was upon him, her blades gleaming with malice as they sliced through the air. He barely dodged, the edge of her dagger grazing his shoulder, sending a burst of pain radiating through his body. He growled, backing away, but she was relentless—her speed matched only by the cold fury in her eyes.“No!” I screamed, my voice raw with desperation, but the words were lo

Ava's pov Xander leapt first, ducking low and slashing at Vorthar’s legs. The beast snarled and turned, leaving his side open. That was my cue, I lunged, flipping through the air and slamming both daggers into his back. He screamed, bucking like a bull. I held on until he slammed into the wall, crushing me under his weight. I dropped, breath knocked out of me. But Xander was already there, slicing into Vorthar's arm, forcing him to drop me. I hit the ground and rolled, vision spinning. I’d felt pain before. But this was different. I was using too much light magic too quickly, draining faster than I could replenish. My body wasn’t healing as fast. “Ava!” Xander shouted again. “You okay?” “I’m fine,” I gritted out, but we both knew it was a lie. Vorthar was breathing heavier now. Bleeding, but not enough. “This isn’t working,” I said. “We need something stronger.” “We have something,” Xander said. “The dagger—the one blessed by the gods from the light forge. You st
