Xander's Pov

Something snapped in me when he held Ava's waist, whatever charm she was using has to be really strong. I will find out what it is, because it is messing with my head and my daily life.

Leo, my wolf, has been awfully silent these days, he feels what I feel. Whenever I mistreat Ava something in me breaks, it disconnects me from myself, I've been having a lot of sleepless nights because of it and I am fed up.

The smell of her blood was prudent in the air but I ignored it. I paused as I felt her body go limp halfway down the stairs.

I looked at her unconscious body for a second then continued on my journey, the guards who failed to excuse my order will be punished. I am the alpha king and when I give an order you follow it no matter what, you do not stop for anybody.

I got to the doors leading to the dungeon and the guards stationed in front of it opened it up for me, I dragged her down the stairs and into the abyss.

It was pitch black at the entrance but I was familiar with

Ava's PovI was floating, the sky was bright above me and birds flew. I landed on something soft and fluffy, my hand ran across it, it seemed to be fur.I giggled at the feeling and snuggled into its warmth. After a while I came down from whatever it was and took in the view before me. I was on a lush green hill which had a lot of flowers. It overlooked a beautiful lake which glistened in the sunlight.I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath, I let the peace and tranquility wash over me. There was a slight rustling behind me, it reminded me that I had been on top of something fluffy.I turned around and was met with my own eyes, except it was on a wolf. A giant wolf, it had white fur with silver streaks, I took a step back upon seeing its size.“Careful.” A soft angelic voice said.I looked to my right and saw a beautiful woman, she was the most beautiful person I had ever seen. Her skin glistened under the sunlight, it glowed like the moon, she was draped in an elegant white cloth

Xander's povAfter my meal I headed to the dungeon to assess the situation myself. I walked up to her cell and saw her on the floor where I had left her.I felt a sharp pain in my chest, a call to save her. I noticed the blood at the back of her head and wondered what happened.Did someone do something to her?Because I knew for a fact that the potion healed her former head injury, the thought of someone hurting her made me angry.I turned and left, she would wake up soon. The next day I asked for the dungeon guard on duty to come to my office.“The new captive, the human. Is she awake?” I asked.“No, your majesty.” He replied with a bow.“Get water and dump it on her, we need to interrogate her as soon as possible.” I ordered him.“Yes, your majesty.” He gave a bow then left.Beta Magnus and Gamma Draven wherein the study with me, “let's go train.”I needed to blow off some steam. Irritation began to bubble within me because I knew the reason why they were both here.“Alpha.” They said in unison with a slight bow.“What do you want?” I demanded ignoring their greeting.“Alpha,” Lyra started. “Please let Ava go.”“No.” I returned my focus to the map of the pack grounds and the position where Magnus had placed the warriors.“You claim that she bewitched you, right?” Lyra continued. “What evidence do you have? As a king, you of all people should know never to accuse someone with evidence to back up your claim.”I did not speak, but my eyes signalled to her to continue.“You know the tension between our kind and hers has surged tremendously, there's on telling what will happen if

Xander's povIt has been three days since we moved her into my wing, four days in total since she has been in a coma. The healers have given up on her but too afraid to say anything to me, I overheard them one night. They had just finished dressing her wound which has made no healing progress. I stood there watching her.Her flawless face gave the impression that she was only asleep, as if she would wake up the next second. I took a moment to take in her form, her usual annoyed expression wasn't there, she just looked peaceful like she was sleeping. Her long lashes slightly brushed her cheeks and her hair was fanned out on the pillow underneath her head, she looked like an angel. The sun filtering in through the windows casted a warm glow on her pale skin, I have never seen anything more ethereal in all my years.I took a seat next to her and watched her, my hand reached out to brush her cheek softly. Her pink lips were slightly parted as she took in soft breaths. Her scent once again

Ava's povI was confused. Something was off about the alpha, about us.I felt heat rise to my cheeks as I remembered the kiss. The sparks and tingles that spread across my body, the softness of his lips, the feeling of his stubble against my cheek and the most intoxicating scent that infiltrated my nose.Something has shifted between us, I could tell from the way he spoke and acted towards me. I felt a deep connection and longing for him.I rubbed my eyes tiredly, the healer had left a few minutes ago after a thorough examination of my healed body and an hour of grueling questions. My answer remained the same all through. I don't know.I knew that I couldn't tell anyone about the woman and the wolf, Aria. I still have a lot of unanswered questions.Xander had instructed me to go to my chambers and clean up once the healer gave me the go ahead, which he had. I got up from the bed and headed for the door.My body felt lighter, stronger and far more healthy than it had ever been. A smil

Ava's povHe noticed my movement and his face changed to one of panic, he reached a hand towards me in an attempt to calm me down.Whatever was in his place spoke, “calm down, Aria.” Its voice was deep and rough.Aria?“What?” I whispered, he took another step towards me making me crawl back.Hurt flashed on his face, he still held his hands out to show that he wasn't going to hurt me.Why'd he call me Aria?“Wait…please.” The thing said then took another step.I didn't move this time out of fear and confusion, he took another then another until he was towering over me.I swallowed as he bent down to be at my level, it reached a clawed hand towards my face and I shut my eyes tightly in fear.I waited for the impact but it never came, rather he gently stroked my face. He brushed my hair out of my face, sparks danced across the place where he touched.I opened my eyes and stared into his golden eyes, there was something else in them. Xander's povI ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. I don't know what came over me.Ever since the kiss with Ava I felt something, the presence I felt the first day I saw her. A little smile escaped his lips.“What? Did you suddenly turn a new leaf overnight and why?”No response. Xander's povThe silence was deafening as everyone seemed to hold their breath. My eyes scanned the room taking in all their faces, the people I had called my friends, allies, family and leaders. They all stared back at me with a mixture of different expressions on their faces— doubt, fear, anger, hate and disgust. Finally, my eyes returned to Ava. Despite all the words and objects that had been thrown at her, she stood tall and unyielding at the center of the room. Her courage lit a fire in me. I believed her, I had come to learn that we must always trust and rely on each other in the trying times to come. They didn't understand what we were going to face, they didn't know that their only hope was the person they were turning on— the person they wanted to kill.I had to protect her at all costs.I stood up from my throne, releasing more of my alpha power into the room. They needed to remember who they were in front of.“What has become of you all?” I began, keeping my voice steady de

Ava’s povThey threw me in the dungeons because it was too late and everyone was asleep. The dungeon was colder than the last time I was down there, terrifying memories came flooding back and I shut my eyes to keep them out.The cold air clung to my skin like a second layer, my teeth rattled and my body shivered. They had stripped me of my cloak so I was in nothing but a simple dress.Shadows flickered under the faint glow of the torches lining the walls, they seemed to be reaching out to touch me so I slithered away.I pulled my knees to my chest, the heavy metal cuffs clanking and digging into my skin. It was certainly going to leave a little bruise. I was already walking on eggshells around the werewolves but this time I had broken all the eggshells.I closed my eyes and thought back to everything that had happened. From Darius defending his evil deeds to the ambush and the accusations which have been laid up on me. Darius's words seemed to be true, I would always be a human to the

Ava's pov“Don’t play games with me!” I snapped, my voice rising and trembling with anger. “The bomb that killed dozens of innocent people at the pack—wolves and humans alike. I saw the symbol on it, Darius ‘D.’ That was your work, wasn’t it?”Something passed through his eyes. It looked like guilt but he quickly masked it. “I don't know what you're talking about, you must be mistaken.”“Don’t lie to me!” I yelled, my voice echoing through the clearing and the night air. “I know it was you. How could you do something so monstrous? Do you even realize how many lives were lost because of that bomb? How many families were torn apart? How… how many children died? Babies?...” My voice broke as I thought about the last part.Darius pushed off the tree, his expression darkening as he took a step towards me. “You don’t understand, Ava. This war isn’t about one bomb or one attack. It’s about survival and making a stand in this world. The werewolves have oppressed us for centuries, treated us

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 73

Ava's povMy mind was still reeling from the shocking revelation of the traitor but I had other important things to focus on as I sat in my dimly lit chamber, the only source of light was the moonlight streaming in from behind my curtains by the window.I sat by my desk with a pen in my hand, poised above the piece of paper in front of me. My heart pounded as I thought of what I was doing, I was taking a risk because if I am caught I would be as good as dead but I needed to do it.I had made up my mind not to get involved with the rebellion again which is why I had tactically evaded Heather and Thomas by spending more time with Xander. But tonight I would need their help.Tonight, I was going to write a letter to Darius because we need to meet. Ever since I saw the symbol on that piece of metal at the bombing site, I have been sick to my stomach at the fact that my brother could cause such destruction.I began to scribble words down on the paper, words that have been swimming in my he

Xander's povA few days later I was seated in my office staring at the report in my hand in shock. The room was dark except for the faint glow coming from the fireplace. The enforcers had submitted it to me this morning and the words on the paper was something I had never dreamt about. I clenched the paper in my hand as my mind raced reading the words over and over again, hoping— praying, that I had misread. But I hadn’t.It was there, as clear as day.Magnus.The information I had given him had been leaked. The rogues had known about the false meeting near the eastern riverbank. I had sent enforcers to each location I had given out and the rogues had ambushed the enforcers at the riverbank leaving one dead and two injured. The rest escaped luckily because they had been outnumbered. That proved one thing.Magnus had betrayed me.I kept looking at his name which was written in big bold letters. Betrayal and disbelief hit me hard. He wasn’t just my Beta, he was my childhood friend, my b

Xander's povThe next day, I summoned Draven to my office. He strode in confidently, it took everything in me not to narrow my eyes at him.“You sent for me alpha?” he asked, closing the door behind him.“Yes, I did.” I said, gesturing for him to take a shot across from me. “I wanted to discuss the ambush. The rogues knew exactly where and when to strike. It’s too precise to be a coincidence, it was like they knew we were coming.”Draven nodded, furrowing his eyebrows. “I’ve been thinking about the exact same thing. I suspect that someone must’ve told them.”“Exactly,” I said, leaning forward. “I recently discovered something and I don't know who to trust in this castle so I decided to call on you. I need you to keep this between us, understand?”“Yes, alpha. I understand.” He said seriously.“Good.” I said. “I’ve received some information about another potential rogue hideout from one of my spies. This time, it’s in the southern plains, near the abandoned mines.”Draven’s eyes widene

Xander's povI sat in my office, fireplace lit and crackling in the quiet space. I had summoned Magnus, he would be the first to be lied to. I trusted his loyalty but sometimes, loyalty could be faked so I couldn't rule him out just yet.Magnus knocked, then I granted him the permission to enter. He walked in calmly, his demeanor the same as usual.“Magnus,” I began, gesturing for him to take a seat.Magnus nodded and sat across from me, his brow furrowed. “You summoned me, Alpha? Any issue with the captured rogues?”“No, this is not about the captives.” I said, leaning forward. “There's something important I want to discuss with you. Something I haven't told anyone in this castle.”Magnus straightened in his chair, his sharp gaze immediately becoming sharp and alert. “Okay Alpha. I'm listening.”I exhaled then feigned hesitation just to make everything seem natural. “I sent a spy out a while back to find out more about the rogues.”“A spy?” He asked.“Yes, I didn't know who to trust

Xander's povAva followed me silently as I led her to my chambers. After all this, I planned on asking her to officially move into my chamber. Most nights I can't bear having her so out of reach. She quietly walked over to my bed and sat down then looked at her fingers that she toyed with in her laps. “You told them about the eastern mountains,” she said without looking up.I walked over to her then sat next to her, the warmth radiating from her body felt amazing. “I had to say it.” I said. She finally looked up from her hands, her eyes searched my face. “But it isn't true, right? Just a part of the plan.”I shook my head. “No, it isn't.”She let out a sigh of relief. “For a second I thought you let something important slip.”I pecked her temple. “No, baby. I will never make such a mistake.”“Okay, baby.” She was silent for a moment, then nodded. “It’s risky, but it makes sense. Do you think it’ll work?”“It has to.” I said, my voice firm. She reached out, placing a hand on my arm. “B

Xander's pov“Some of you are well aware of what we have learnt about the rogues whilst some of you are not. The rogues now move strategically and tactically, they can no longer be handled like we used to.” I said. “ This attack proves that they are capable of more than we’ve given them credit for. If we don’t act now, they will strike again—and I fear that next time, it could be worse.”Magnus leaned forward, his expression grim. “What’s the plan, Alpha?”I met his gaze, then looked around the table making sure to lock my eyes with everyone present. “We need to come together—not just as a pack, but as a realm. Lycara is home to ten other packs, and if the rogues are bold enough to attack us, they won’t hesitate to target the others. We need to protect our people, all of them.”Rowan frowned. “You’re suggesting we unite the packs?”“Yes,” I said firmly. “This isn’t just our fight. The rogues are a threat to everyone, and we need to stand together if we’re going to defeat them.”Elder
