Kaiden
After so many years, I stepped foot into my pack again. My mind link being set in place again. My men and I have been gone for so long, it felt good and warm to be at the pack again. Years ago, I wouldn’t have thought I would come to miss my kingdom, but after my brother and sister-in-law died, I had to take over, wear the heavy crown, and take care of my niece, who only had me. But due to the border rebellion from the nasty rogues, I had to leave her, too. And the minute I mind linked her that I was back to the pack, I could feel her excitement through the link. But something else caught my attention. As our pack tradition, when the king returned, the guards and maids lined up to welcome him. But that wasn’t what stole my attention. A maid, fallen on the ground, unmoving. The sight of her struck me like a bolt of lightning. Her soft features, the delicate curve of her neck, everything about her tugged at my instincts. My wolf stirred restlessly within me, a primal energy clawing to the surface. But I clenched my fists, keeping my composure. And the scent coming from her, freezing me in my place. “Kaiden!” Anya screamed happily as she walked out of the palace, but I ignored her outstretched hands as I stormed to my mate. “Who did this to her?” I thundered at the guards and maids as I crouched to her level. Her face was bloodied and her face streamed with tears. “Kaiden, leave her-“ Anya began to say but I silenced her with a growl, causing tension to fill the whole place. The guards swallowed harshly as my angry eyes swept over them, but I focused on the shaky maid. My mate. What were the odds of finding her in the same pack I lived in? I carried her in my arms, and my wolf immediately rejoiced at the contact. Her small body molded into my arms, but she ignored my gaze, her face buried in my chest. I took her up the stairs, into the palace, and I could feel her shiver in my hold. What could have happened to her? Why was she being punished? Her soft scent wafted into my nose as I walked into my room that I haven’t been in years, and I softly placed her on the chair, and watched her intently. I could hear the faint beating of her heart as she curled away from my gaze, and I softly sighed. Something was odd about her. I thought as I got a first aid box, and knelt in front of her. “Remove your hands from your face,” I commanded. Reluctantly, she pulled her hand away from her face, revealing the most beautiful face I had ever seen, blood and tear-streaked. I used wet clothes to wipe her face, and cotton wool to wipe her wounds. She winced as I did, but I didn’t stop until I finished. “Thank you.” She mumbled, her eyes darting everywhere except my eyes. I gripped her chin, and almost gasped at the sparks that flew when my fingertips met her chin. Her eyes widened in surprise and I knew she felt it too. “What’s your name, little mate?” She swallowed softly as she shyly avoided my eyes. “Celine, your Highness.” Celine. My wolf purred at her name. But I pushed the sentiments aside, my gaze boring into hers. “Who pushed you, Celine, and why were you beaten up?” I saw her visibly tremble as I asked my question, and I knew there was something I had to know. “No one,” she finally murmured. I frowned. My wolf growled softly, sensing her hesitation, but he didn’t press further. Before I could ask anything else, my mind was interrupted by the familiar tug of a mental link. Anya. “Uncle Kaiden,” Anya’s voice chimed sweetly. “I see you’ve brought Celine to your chambers. Is she your mate? I saw you being tender towards her and I want to be sure.” I studied Celine as I spoke with Anya and saw as she cowered under my gaze. She was weak and small, not fit to lead. But I could see a fire in her eyes. “Why do you want to know, Anya?” I replied my niece. “Well then you should know that she's a thief, a liar and also wolf less. She’s a despicable human who isn’t fit to be a member of our kingdom.” I stiffened at my niece’s words. My wolf snarled at the insult, but the accusation lingered on my mind like a thorn. I broke the link and turned to Celine, who was now staring at the floor. The accusation was one that would be stupid to be thrown around lightly, but Anya knew the risks of lying to me. “Is it true?” I asked, my tone sharp. “Are you a thief?” Celine’s head snapped up, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Disappointment filled me as I gritted. “Answer me, Celine.” “I…” Her voice broke, and she looked away. “Yes.” The single word was a knife to my chest. My mate... a thief? My wolf growled in protest, but I silenced it. I took a step back, my expression hardening. “You could’ve denied it,” I said coldly. “You could’ve explained yourself, but instead, you admit to being a criminal? My mate may be weak, but she will not be despicable.” Celine flinched at my words, but it needed to be said. Not baring to see her again, I turned my back to her, my hands clenched at my sides. “Get out of my room,” I said, my voice laced with fury. I heard her silently leave and a burdened sigh left my lips. A thief could never be my mate. No matter what my wolf may feel. I had the integrity of my crown to protect.Celine Shamefully, I ran away from the Alpha’s room like the coward that I was. I couldn’t recover from the look of disgust he gave me when I admitted to being a thief. His piercing gaze burned into my soul, making me feel smaller than ever under his stare. Why did I have to admit to being a slave? Would he have believed me if I had told him the truth about Sheila? My parents didn’t care for me, but why was I still helping them protect Sheila? I wiped away an angry tear that slid from my eye. I never thought my mate, not even the king, could be within these walls. But now, all hopes of finding a mate who would love me and cherish me had been dashed. My mate would rather die than accept me, a thief, as his queen. Approaching my sorry excuse for a room, I passed in front of the maids’ quarters... a huge room that all the maids lived in. They refused to let me live with them, casting me into a storage room infested with rats and insulting me every night I had to pass their room to get
Kaiden “How dare you run away from the pack that has been merciful to you despite what you’ve done?” I growled, my head roaring with anger, as I glared at the pair in front of me. How dare she run away? How dare he, a guard, help her escape? This infuriated me to no end as I watched them nervously shift under my gaze as they realized that they had been caught. “Kai- your highness…” Celine whispered, her gaze falling to the floor. “It’s not what you think-“ The guard pulled her behind him in a protective stance, and my gaze followed their enclosed hands. This caused my wolf to jump around in anger, begging for control so he could tear the little guard apart. “If you want to punish anyone, punish me. I am not sorry for doing this. She deserves so much better treatment than the treatment everyone in this kingdom has been giving her, especially your niece.” The guard all but spat in my face. A monstrous growl that would wake the whole kingdom tore through my lips. “How dare you talk t
Celine For the first time in a long time, I woke up on a soft bed, the warmth of the blankets cocooning me as a small smile tugged at my lips. I snuggled deeper into the comforter, savoring the softness, the safety, the quiet peace of the moment. But as my mind slowly began to clear, the memories of last night came rushing back, and my smile faltered. I sprang up, panic clawing at my chest as I realized where I was... Kaiden’s room. The events of the previous night came flooding back in vivid flashes. His eyes, burning with possessiveness. His kiss, was fierce and claiming. The sensation of being claimed, of being made his. Over and Over again. My face flushed with embarrassment, as I noticed the absence of Kaiden. The room was still, quiet, and yet there was a lingering tension in the air, as if his presence still held dominion over every inch of the space. I hastily wrapped the comforter around my naked body, suddenly feeling exposed and vulnerable, despite being alone in this lar
Celine's POV My legs carried me as fast as they could, and I almost tripped a million times as tears blurred my vision as they flowed in streams. The minute I got into my room, I fell onto the floor and shook uncontrollably as I wailed. Could Anya be telling the truth? No, she couldn’t. It could just be a huge lie to pull Kaiden and me apart. But my chest throbbed with doubt. I was just a slave. Why would a king want me? If Anya wasn’t lying, why on earth would Kaiden make me vulnerable just to abandon me? Was I that worthless? Did last night mean nothing other than him getting pleasure from his useless maid? The thought of that caused me to sob harder. Everything hurt. But there were no answers on my room floor. I had to see for myself if I was just a tool to Kaiden, and the only way was going to do my duties as a maid at the party. Just then, my glance darted to my bed, where a flimsy black dress lay. It was the uniform of the day and every bit of it was designed to make the
Kaiden Alpha Sinclair rambled on about his plans to stop the rogues’ insistent attacks on the packs and all i could think about was last night. Look at me, a king going crazy because of a wolfless maid. If the Alphas could see into my mind, it could be quite a scandal. But I couldn't help it. I'm far too deep to leave now. If I closed my eyes, I could see her soft delicate porcelain skin. I could smell her delicious natural scent. Fuck I could even hear how softly she moaned my name while we were- “Your Highness. Permission to mind link.” A groan left my lips, drawing the attention of the Alphas, but I ignored them, focusing on the guard. “I am in a meeting, I will address this later.” I mindlinked back, ready to stop my wolf from allowing mindlinks, but the guard's voice came back stern. “Your Highness, it's about your mate. Princess Anya dragged her out and-” I didn’t wait for him to complete his sentence and I leaped to my feet and walked away, leaving the Alphas shocked an
Celine I couldn't stop my heart from racing as everyone in the banquet stared at me, some with hatred, some with curiosity, some with both. I drew Kaiden’s suit jacket closer to my body as I scrambled out of the hall, replaying all that just happened. Kaiden defended me. My heart fluttered and my wolf chuckled as a smile broke out on my face. He was ready to tear that stupid Liam apart, and he would have if I hadn't stopped him. Seeing him defend me like that, tugged at my heart strings. No one had ever defended me, not my parents, obviously not my brother. It has only been myself and my wolf no one knew about. There was something romantic about being saved like a damsel in distress by a man, one that was as attractive as Kaiden being my knight in shining armor. The thought almost made me laugh at how silly it sounded, but it was true. In that moment, I felt… cared for. Wanted, even. But that smile faded as quickly as it had appeared when Anya’s words from earlier today rang in my
Celine I did not return to Kaiden's room. Instead, I made my way back to my own small bedroom, shutting the door behind me with a shaky breath. Goddess , today has been hectic. First Anya, then Liam and Spencer, and then my parents… I couldn't catch a break. Just yesterday, I was on my way out of this pack and now, I am the King’s mistress, like Mother said. Aren't you forgetting someone? My wolf asked. I gasped. How could I forget the guard who helped me yesterday? Guilt settled heavily in my chest. He had risked everything for me, and I didn't even think about him. Had Kaiden punished him? I begged him not to, but did begging mean anything? Was he even still alive? I needed to know. I moved to get out of my room, but I remembered my family was still in the palace, so I decided to shift into my wolf instead. Like a ghost, I could slip through the walls and avoid being seen. Shifting into my wolf form, I silently slipped out of my room and into the darkened halls. My wolf was h
Kaiden Tonight's banquet was meant to celebrate our victory in war, a hard-fought triumph that secured the kingdom's power. The grand hall was filled with nobles, warriors, and Alphas and Lunas from across the realm. Goblets clinked, laughter echoed, and music played, yet I found myself only half-engaged. My mind drifted elsewhere, specifically to a certain stubborn woman who was not in attendance and I haven't been able to get out of my mind. Princess Anya stood beside me, her arm looped through mine as she played the perfect hostess, but I knew her well enough to see through her act. Her grip was just a bit too tight, and the way her lips curled into a forced smile was way too similar to her father’s angry grimace. But I did not feel any need to console her. The last thing I wanted was for her to think I would take her ill treatment of my mate in stride all because she was my niece. “Uncle,” She called out sweetly, but I knew her enough to detect the venom in her words. “Yes
KaidenI wrapped my hand around Lina’s—or should I say Celine as I led her down the hallway and back to my room for the meal I proposed we had together. I wasn’t entirely sure if she was truly Celine but my suspicion was growing with each passing minute. No two people could be so similar or even talk the same way plus the scar behind her ear was too similar for it to be just a coincidence. It was the same shape and in exactly the same spot. The familiarity in the way she moved, the way she avoided my eyes whenever she realized I was suspecting her or the way they clouded up like she was avoiding something—hiding a secret tugged at me and I wanted to get to the root of it all. If it was truly Celine, why was she putting up an act? And if my suspicions are wrong, why does everything about her scream at me that she was the one?I was utterly confused and frustrated, I hated not knowing things, I hated not having control but this was a chance for me to finally figure out why she was pr
Celine “Or what Lina?” He asked as he moved closer to me, his voice mirroring the darkness in his eyes. “What would you do to me, hmn?”His voice was dripping with amusement, it was dangerous and I couldn’t help but swallow. I was not only nervous but I knew that the man standing in front of me could ruin my life if he wanted. He stalked closer to me and I kept stepping away from him until my back eventually hit the wall and I realized I had nowhere else to run to. He raised his hand, his smirk still etched on his face as he trapped my head against the with both of his hands. “Cats got your tongue?” He asked, his voice dropping with mockery. “I wonder where your voice has suddenly gone when you were running your mouth just seconds ago saying I better stay away from you.”I remained silent but my resolve didn’t falter. I might be scared of him but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of seeing it. “You’re lucky that I actually like you,” he continued, his voice even lower t
CelineAlpha Lucan lazily leaned back into the couch as a slow grin crawled onto his face. His eyes were intense as she stared at me, it looked like he was trying to see through me or even figure out what was running through my mind. “Disrespect?” He repeated, his voice was low and mocking as if the thought of a mere maid saying such to him was something he had never believed would happen. Slowly, his eyes roamed over me from my head down to my toes making my skin crawl from disgust. “You wear a mask—probably ashamed of how you look and yet you're acting like you command the room or like you’re higher than me. Isn’t that intriguing?” He asked as he cocked an eyebrow at me. His words hit me like a punch to the stomach but I didn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing my reaction. I kept my face neutral as I stared at him, waiting to hear him say why he had called for me. After a few moments of silence and him realizing that I wasn’t going to say anything, he raised his hand and wav
Celine That was weird. I thought as I cleaned the floor of the ballroom for the end of competition Celebration. Kaiden must have figured out that I was hiding something because of his confrontation but totally freezing up like that after touching my hair? That was weird. Maybe he figured out you were Celine? Silver the ever ghostly ghost wolf whispered, but I shut her to the back of my mind, not interested in that particular sentence. Kaiden did not figure out my identity, I’ve been extra careful. A big part of me felt it was something else, maybe a mindlink message. A push hit me from behind and I stumbeled forward, almost falling flat on my face in the hall. I whipped backwards to see the culprit and it was none other than the boss, Sybil. “You.” She eyed me in disgust, and I stood upright, surprised at her sudden evidence irritation. “Yes, Boss? Is something wrong?” I asked, keeping my voice civil. “Did I do something wrong?”She gave me a once over, then snorted. “Maybe the
Kaiden “What are you looking for, Lina?” I asked the minute she stepped into the room. She froze, her eyes wide, almost as if she was a deer caught in the headlights, which in this case she was.The minute I stepped into the room I noticed the chest I placed in a strategic position had been moved, confirming my theory. Lina was looking for something, and I had to know what it was.“W- what?” She stammered, before clearing her throat, “I’m not looking for anything your highness.” She lied through her teeth. My jaw clenched as I looked out the window. I was beginning to finally see the good in someone and then it had to be a spy. Another liar. And after what I’ve been through, I hate lies. Pushing down my frustration, I turned to her. She was in her usual maid uniform, the floral skirt and the damn mask, but I was done with all the anonymity of her whole existence. She was apparently not to be underestimated. “What if I find out you are looking for something?” I met her gaze. “Wha
Celine“Kaiden wait.” An alpha called out and my heart jumped out in shock as i felt their presence just feet away from me.I knew Kaiden was headed to breakfast with the alphas. And the minute i heard, i snuck bak into his roo to search the whole place carefully. But i realized it was a waste o time, and i was going to have a better shot finidng whereever the key ma be from the meeting they were having, so i hid behind some flowers in the garden close to the dining room to listen. But all i could see were egotistic alphas that only craved power. But as Kiaden tood up abruptly and left before i could run away, i just had to hold my breath aand hope he doesnt find me.Last night was strange… After Kaiden slept off, his hand in mine, all i could think off was or conversation. Kaiden thought i was dead. Yes i knew the possibility of them thinking i was dead was high since i disappeared out of nowhere was high, but i thought since Sheila was in power, he wouldnt care if i was dead or not.
Chapter 118Kaiden “You should have killed that bastard Orion once and for all, King Kaiden!” Van protested the minute he and the other Alphas under my kingdom stepped into the dining room to see me and discuss the next competition. There was a day interval between each competition for instances like my injured waist to heal before another tsking competition. However, thanks to Lina's wound-treating skills, I was healed the minute I woke up this morning. I appreciated it because it was a sign of weakness to be injured as the king, and these Alphas were ready at any minute to take up my post and to show they are superior to me the minte they see me down.Lina. The maid I could not seem to figure out. Her similarities to Celine were overwhelming, but I did not want to dwell on them for too long. It seems that I was just missing Celine, and it would be wrong to move on with someone who only reminds me of her, and not someone I care about for herself. So pushed her away to the back of
