CHAPTER 125: GOING FOR THE DNA TEST

EVERLY:

Kaelan made ginger tea for me which I took before breakfast. It calmed my nerves a lot better.

This was the first time Kaelan entered the Kitchen to make tea for me since I arrived here. Yesterday was venison, today tea. Who knows what he will make tomorrow?

He requested a lot of kisses as a reward which I gladly gave him.

We went downstairs for breakfast and after that, it was time to drive to the city for the DNA test.

Evan was ready, waiting by the car when we came out.

I got into the passenger side and sat quietly, staring out the window while Kaelan drove. I watched the city towering buildings pass in a whirlwind as the car sped along

I looked at the backseat to check on Evan. His body seemed stiff and his arms folded across his chest.

Kaelan's gaze was focused on the road as he held on tightly to the steering wheel with the same ruthless control he exerted over his kingdom.

We didn't talk to one another, probably because we were al

CHAPTER 126: THE RESULTS EVERLY:Back in the pack, I was in a happy mood for several days and everyone could see it. I didn't let Kaelan out of my sight. We sparred together, went hunting together and even visited the families of our fallen Lycans. We gave them gifts and some even gave us gifts back in return. Kaelan made sure he took care of the mates and offspring of his fallen Lycans and I was so proud of him.Kaelan made me dress up with my new outfits everyday even when I had nowhere to go. This morning, I was in the garden trimming the flowers when he stepped out, impeccably dressed in dark wash jeans and fitted cashmere sweater. He looked so handsome and I couldn't take my eyes off him as I moved over to his car before he got into the car.“Where are you off to?” I asked curiously, feeling a little insecure.“I have a business engagement and I also need to pick up your DNA results,” he responded smoothly. My heart skipped multiple beats at the mention of the DNA results.“W

CHAPTER 127: I'M THE HEIR OF SILVER CROSS“Are you ready?” Kaelan asked the following morning, after we had breakfast.I nodded. “Yes I'm ready. I will go check on Evan.”I hurried to Evan's room in the visitors lounge and informed him that we were about to leave. He joined us in the car and we drove to Silver Cross in silence. It was a thirty minute drive but it felt much longer. I sat in the front seat beside Kaelan, and focused my gaze on the passing trees. This trip to Silver Cross pack wasn't something I would have agreed to but having Evan's interest at heart, I just had to do it.Evan sat in the back, and watched the scenery, his jaw tight. He hadn’t said much since we left the pack. I knew he was nervous. And I couldn’t blame him.As Kaelan drove, I stole discreet glances at him. He was quiet and probably planning every move. He wasn’t the type to walk into a situation unprepared.“We’ll handle this one step at a time,” he finally said, after he caught me stealing a glance a

She gasped, clawing at my hands, her eyes wide with fear.“How dare you,” I growled, my vision tinged with red. “You ruined my mother’s life. You seduced my father while he was still mated to her. You watched her suffer and made him abandon her to die.”Elena opened her mouth to speak but no word came out.I squeezed harder. “You were part of it. If my father had taken care of her, maybe she would have survived. Maybe she wouldn’t have had to fight so hard alone.”Kaelan didn’t stop me. Neither did Evan. They just watched. But my father lunged at me suddenly and kicked my side so hard, my grip loosened up a bit.“What are you doing?” he growled. “Let her go.”I tightened my grip on her neck until Elana’s face turned red. I wanted to end her. Right then and there. But a hand suddenly touched my shoulder and when I turned, I saw Evan standing behi

Kaelan has indeed turned a new leaf.Owen was there too, but he didn't sit in the midst of the elders. Rather, he stood to the side with his arms crossed. I knew he had my back, but it was the council I was worried about. We acknowledged everyone's greetings and took our positions.Evan stood next to Kaelan.Once everyone had settled, Kaelan spoke.“There’s a matter we need to discuss.” His voice was steady, and he went straight to the point. “Evan is the rightful heir of Silver Cross, and he wants to reclaim his pack.”Murmurs spread across the table. Elder Jonas, a man who had never hidden his distaste for me, stood up. “And who is this Evan? And what does this have to do with us? We don't even know him.”Kaelan’s gaze darkened. “Silver Cross was taken from the rightful founder, Gold Gray, over twenty yea

Kaelan flipped through some documents while I tried to read a book but I couldn't focus. What if Evan failed?I paced the study, and couldn't get my mind to relax. Kaelan relapsed in his seat and watched me silently. "This isn’t fair," I finally burst out. "I think the elders are setting Evan up to fail."Kaelan sighed. "It’s not about fairness, Everly. It’s about strength. If Evan wants to lead, he has to prove that he can lead."I turned around to face him. "He has been training so hard these days! He’s spent the past weeks preparing for this moment. But instead of making things right, we’re throwing him into a fight that could kill him!"Kaelan’s expression didn’t change. "If he can’t win this fight, he won’t survive as Alpha anyway."Anger and frustration twisted inside me. "You’re just going to let this happen?"Kaelan crossed the room in a few strides, and took my hands gen

CHAPTER 131: I BELIEVE IN YOU EVERLY:Kaelan sent Owen and Bennett to Silver Cross to inform them of the intended battle between Evan and any warrior of their choice. They had just one day to prepare for the battle. The battle was set to take place at 6:am. The elders had to be present.Evan was ready early enough, waiting for us.Owen had reported to Kaelan that Johnson was still residing in Silver Cross. So, Kaelan decided to go prepared. He chose ten of his most powerful Lycan warriors to go with him. After the battle, Johnson had to be thrown out of the pack like a piece of trash.“I appreciate your confidence in me, Alpha,” Evan said to Kaelan as we set out for Silver Cross.“Oh that's the least I can do. And don't forget, Evan, in today's battle, it's either you win or you win. There's no other option.”Evan nodded vigorously. In other words, Kaelan was telling him that losing wasn't an option. “And Evan,” Kaelan's voice was firm. “As a leader, you don't nod when you're spoken

CHAPTER 132: WE STAND WITH YOU, ALPHA EVERLY:The tension in the air was thick enough to have one suffocated. We all stood patiently, waiting for Evan to be crowned. Kaelan had said that it was dangerous to fix a date for Evan's crowning. It would give the enemies time to strategize. So he was going to be crowned right here and now.The warriors circled the battle ring and Evan stood in the middle. He was tall, and his muscles seemed tense. As his eyes locked onto mine, I gave him a warm smile. The fight had been brutal. It was a display of strength, skill, and sheer determination. Thanks to the Moon Goddess, Evan came out victorious. His chest rose and fell with each heavy breath as he stood proudly. He suddenly extended a hand to Canon. “You are a true warrior. You fought well,” he said, with a steady voice.Canon hesitated, then gripped Evan’s hand and allowed Evan to pull him up. “You earned it,” he admitted, nodding in reluctant respect.Kaelan stood beside me and crossed his

CHAPTER 133: GOING ON A DATEEVERLY:It was already 1:00 pm when we left Silver Cross. Kaelan had to help Evan put a few things in order. As we rode back to Crescent Moon, I heaved a sigh of relief. The tension of the past few days had finally begun to ease. Evan was now Alpha, Johnson was banished, and Silver Cross now had a real chance at prosperity. Kaelan had left six of his Lycans behind to guard Evan until he could establish his own security. The sun was blazing hot and my stomach was empty. So I felt hot and hungry. You can imagine my relief when Kaelan turned to me as we drove through the metropolis, and said with a smirk, “Let’s get lunch.”I raised a brow. “Lunch? Is it a date?”His smirk widened. “You:re literally coming from a battle and haven't even showered. And you think I will take you on a date like that?”I crossed my arms. “Are you saying I look dirty and ugly?”He chuckled. “No. You're a queen and queens don’t look ugly and dirty no matter how hard they try.”I g

EPILOGUE It was the full moon and the gentle breeze stirred the trees, making the palace look very alluring.Crescent Moon has been peaceful for so many months now. This was a hard-earned peace. The occupants of this pack and palace had gone through years of struggle, sacrifice and resilience.Kaelan stood on the balcony of his chambers, and surveyed the vast territory he now ruled. The once-fractured packs of the country were now unified under his reign, and Crescent Moon had become a beacon of progress. He had built industries that now flourished, and provided security and wealth, while the werewolf college he had also recently built ensured that future generations were educated in both the ways of the world and the sacred traditions of their kind.He heard the soft giggle of his toddler and turned to see Everly standing in the doorway. Her eyes were filled with warmth as she carried her son, Maxine in her arms.Maxine was now a vibrant toddler with wild curls and eyes as deep and

CHAPTER 159: THE HEIR IS HERE EVERLY:When Kaelan returned in the evening and learnt about the Carter incident, he became very angry with me.“I told you not to leave our chambers. What did you go to the clinic for?”“I'm sorry, Kaelan. I only wanted to comfort the boy.” I explained.“And what did you get in return, huh? You almost had yourself killed with my pup in your womb.”“Oh, this is all about protecting your pup,” I said calmly.“Don't get me more upset than I already am,. Everly,” he said coldly and stormed out of our room.A moment later, I heard him yelling at someone downstairs and when I looked through the balcony, I saw him yelling at Owen. He told him he was incompetent and couldn't handle a simple task of protecting the Luna.Owen was on his knees begging.I wanted to go downstairs to explain things further but I knew it would make him even more furious. So I held my breath and wished he could calm down. He did calm down eventually but things never remained the same

CHAPTER 158: DUNCAN IS DEAD EVERLY:When we left the clinic, Kaelan decided to go to the library to check things out. He was going through some reports when Owen knocked.“Come in,” he responded impatiently.Owen walked in with hesitant steps. “Alpha, Duncan request an audience with you.”Kaelan closed the file in his desk and turned to him. “Is this some kind of a joke? Do you really think I'm jobless? You should know the rules, Owen. I don't go about entertaining wolves from the dungeon.”Owen bowed. “I'm sorry, Alpha.” And then left the room.We spent a few more minutes in the library and then went upstairs. From this moment onward, Kaelan became clingy. He never let me out of his sight. It has been weeks since the rogues abducted me from the market and almost killed me but I still had nightmares. Kaelan was worried and decided that we should seek the help of a certain witch. But I didn't want to go.I couldn't visit a witch with a pup in my womb. Kaelan decided to go alone. I

CHAPTER 157: ARTIFICIAL FINGERS?EVERLY Viktor let go of my hand when we stepped out of the cell where the rogues had kept me. The building was hidden in a remote forest and I wondered how Viktor was able to locate this place.“I didn't come alone,” he said as if he read my mind. “There are ten Lycans out there, destroying the rogues.”He led me through a hidden path and I saw a car in the distance, waiting.“You brought a car.” I was pleasantly surprised.“Yes, I know you can't shift because of the pregnancy and walking more than twenty miles back to Crescent Moon would be dangerous for you and the pup.”I was impressed with Viktor's thoughtfulness. Who would've thought that the werewolf’s greatest villain had such a good side.I got into the car as soon as we got there and Bennett drove the car away.Beauty was at the gate of the car, pacing. She knew Viktor and the Lycans had gone to rescue and she was obviously anxious. I told Bennett to stop so I could go down. Beauty ran into

It doesn't even matter that Beauty was always in my room, keeping me company. To distract myself, I decided to go shopping with Beauty. “I need some fresh air,” I told her that morning. “And I'm yet to buy baby stroller. Maybe I will see the one I like in the market today.”She grinned. “Sure. Can I come with you?”“Of course,.you can. Kaelan will be mad if he finds out I went to the market alone,” I told her.“Then we need to take some guards,” Beauty suggested. “Just for protection.”I nodded. “Okay. Two or three guards will do.”Beauty went downstairs and informed Owen that we needed three guards to escort us to the market. He made them available immediately.I told the guards to wait in the car when we arrived at the market. I didn't want what happened the last time Beauty and I came to the market to repeat itself ag

CHAPTER 155: YOU'RE WELCOME, BABEEVERLY:I felt so furious hearing Kaelan talk about my past in that manner. I don't know if it's the pregnancy hormones but I get easily annoyed these days.I didn't make a fuss. I simply left him in the kitchen and retreated to my room. I always did that whenever Kaelan annoyed me.“Luna, I'm sorry,” he said as he entered my room, a few minutes later, looking worried. “I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.”“You don't always mean to hurt me but you always do,” I replied dryly.I was busy knitting a cap for my unborn pup. Kaelan wrapped his arms around my shoulders and buried his head in my neck.“Don't be annoyed, my Luna.”I didn't utter another word. The silence between us grew awkward.“I'm planning on going for a short business trip.” he whispered.I dropped the pins and turned to him. “Oh I get it. You're fed up with me and now you want to abandon me with your pup in my womb.”Kaelan withdrew his arms from my shoulders and gazed into my eyes. “Ho

CHAPTER 154: I DESERVE WORSEKAELAN:I instructed Owen to take off Viktor's shackles and get him a room in the warrior's lounge. I provided a few pieces of clothing and some toiletries for him. He looked too haggard and really needed to clean up.“I will never again fail you, Alpha.” Viktor couldn't stop expressing his gratitude. But I didn't let my guard down. For days, I kept a keen watch over Viktor, trying to see if there was a reason to doubt him. But there was none yet.Perhaps I needed to put him through a test. And I wasn’t going to make it easy. This morning, Everly curled her arms around me, sleeping soundly. I gazed at her beautiful face. It looked a bit fragile and I couldn't help but plant a wet kiss on her lips. Then I untangled her arms and got out of bed. I headed straight to the tiny room I had given Viktor in the warrior’s lounge. Most of my warriors weren't happy about sharing the lounge with the same terrorist Alpha who had seen to the death of so many Lycans in C

Why would Viktor request an audience with me after all the terrible things he had done?I can be ruthless when I want to. But I can also be considerate. It wouldn't hurt just to hear him out.Owen was in the library with me, waiting for my response. “So what does he want?” I asked, barely looking up from the reports on my desk.“He says he wants to apologize.” Owen informed me.Viktor wants to apologize? That's interesting! For a moment, I didn't say a word.Everly was on the couch, reading a book on pregnancy. She looked up suddenly. “Maybe you should hear him out.”I scoffed. “You think he’s changed?”“I think he has nothing left to lose,” she said simply. That was true.Viktor had lost his pack, his status, his

He’s throwing a fit in the dungeon.”I frowned. Viktor? We had almost forgotten that he existed. He had withdrawn to his shell after he lost all his ten fingers.Kaelan also frowned. “And I'm supposed to be bothered about that?”“Alpha, Viktor has been making a fuse all day,” Owen reported, looking annoyed. “Everyone is fed up with his tantrum.”Kaelan stepped down from the car, crossed his arms and leaned on the car. I stepped down too but I didn't go to him. I was tired and wanted to go upstairs. The way I rubbed my stoma
