As soon as the bell rings for lunch break the next day, I’m out of my seat and dashing into the hall way. The main focus on my mind is successfully dodging Silas until the rest of the day is over.
If I’m lucky enough, I can avoid him for the rest of the week till he completely forgets about me.
Amen to that.
I find a snack dispenser and move towards it, picking a granola bar. I should eat more as I’m pretty hungry but I’d take anything over stepping into the school cafeteria, where all the students are gathered - where Silas and Elena are waiting.
After popping a few coins in, I pick my granola bar from the dispenser, turning to leave but then, I’m suddenly shoved. The force pushes me back and I stagger, falling on my butt.
I groan in pain, wincing with my eyes shut.
“OMG, I’m so sorry.”
I look up to see a female student I haven’t quite seen before. Her dark blue eyes are heavy with worry and she helps me to my feet without wasting more than a second. My butt is sore and it takes a while for me to balance perfectly on my two feet.
“I’m really sorry.” She apologizes again.
“It’s all right.” I offer a small smile, still rubbing the sore spot on my tush.
Standing now, I admire her more closely. She’s as beautiful as most people are in Crescent Moon Academy. Her short jet black hair in a pixie cut molds her oval face perfectly. Her features have an innocent beauty to it and she’s only few inches taller than I am.
“My mind was somewhere else.” She explains now. “You’re pretty light and short… not that it’s the reason that I hit you. I mean, I didn’t hit you cause you’re short or anything, that was my fault. I’m just commenting on your height, though you might not appreciate that…”
She begins ranting about different things.
“Its fine.” I stop her mind sentence, finding it adorable how frantic she’s being over a little shove. Well, to her it was a little but it’s enough force to knock me off my feet.
I remember I have to somehow survive in a school of stronger wolves while pretending to be one of them.
“I’m Xena Foster, I’m a Zeta in training.” She offers an outstretched arm and a friendly smile.
I’m reluctant to take it or believe the sincerity of that smile, but it’s rude to keep her hanging, so I take her hand and return a polite grin, the best way I can.
“Freya Willows, Alpha.”
“You’re not going to the cafeteria?”
I’m surprised she hasn’t pointed out the fact that she recognizes me from the rumors. For once, it’s nice to meet a friendly face that isn’t fixated on what happened between Silas and I.
“No, it’s a little crowded and I just want a little space to myself to eat.”
She nods at my words and thinks for a second. “I know someplace somewhat secluded.”
“If it's the lavatory, don’t bother, already tried that spot.”
I respond dryly, recalling what happened with Elena and Lila. It’s been hours but the hurt still stings like a fresh wound.
“No, not the lavatory. There’s a stairwell to the rooftop that’s almost always empty. If you’re looking for the secluded, that’s your best spot.”
“Really?” Relief fills me instantly. Finally finding someplace to myself to think and eat without losing my appetite, without judging stares.
“Yeah. Just go down this hall, take a left after the water dispenser. Head straight from there; there’s a stairwell that will take you directly to the roof top.”
“Why are you being so nice?”
there might be some kind of catch behind this.
Xena laughs softly. It sounds genuine; I begin doubting my initial suspicions about her.
“Why not, silly? You obviously look like you need some help. I’ll see you around.”
She waves a bit before dashing to the direction of the cafeteria.
Taking my granola bars, I follow her directive, finding the stairwell easily. I climb up and step out into the very vast space of the roof top. It’s wide and spacious and blissfully empty. I feel relaxed, like I can finally drop my defenses and breathe.
I settle down against a wall, taking the first bite into my granola. I’m relaxed but my only thoughts linger on the fact that I have to climb a flight of stairs every day from now on just to get a sense of peace.
I don’t have a clue on what to do about the thing with Elena and Lila. They’re my roommates, we literally live together. I sigh, knowing I have to sleep with an open eye now.
Then there is Silas.
An arrogant spoilt Alpha who I can’t seem to figure out or get out of my mind. One moment, he’s the world’s most prideful asshole, demanding I bow to him like he’s some god. Then the next, he’s apologizing with flowers and inviting me to eat lunch at his table. Nothing made sense.
Any slight mistake would reveal my secret. I need to be extra careful with him.
I finish the first bar, folding its wrap and tucking it into my pockets to dispose later. The doors suddenly fly wide open, slamming against the walls.
I feel scared shitless, getting into a defense position by impulse. My wolf suddenly jumps happily like she already knows who it is from the scent.
I’m standing there on the roof top, face to face with Silas.
“W-What are you doing here?” I stutter, still recovering from the abrupt surprise.
He’s staring me down intensely like he always does and I have an urge to cover myself up again, except I’m already covered up in my clothes.
“I didn’t see you in the Cafeteria.”
“No shit, Sherlock. That’s because I turned down your request, remember?”
Did he remember or he chose to ignore what I said and just went straight to expecting me to show up?
“Actually, I don’t remember.”
There’s something playful and mischievous in his eyes as he slowly moves up to me. I walk backwards, trying to maintain the space between us but my back hits the wall and suddenly, he’s all up in my personal space, breathing the same air with me. His scent fills my nose as I force air into my lungs. Addictive, that’s how it feels.
Breathe, I chant to myself.
Breathe.
The scent rushes into my brain, messing up my senses. Pine and peppermint floods my thoughts. I’m on the verge of moaning before I’m able to gain control again.
My wolf is suddenly too restless, she urges me to move closer so we can feel the warm heat oozing from him, or take in more of that addictive smell. I resist her, pulling hard on my reigns of restraint.
“Remind me what it was.” He smiles mischievously.
I put my hand between us, softly pushing his chest away from mine. The brief contact shocks me. I pull away quickly.
“I said I wasn’t interested in eating with you.” I respond firmly though my knees wobble.
He’s unbothered by my answer, almost like he does not believe that I don’t want to eat with him.
“How did you even know I was here?”
“Your scent.” His voice is low and deep. He takes a lock of my hair swirling the ends round his fingertips.
“Yeah and you’re some kind of golden retriever?” The cafeteria was a good distance away. No way he sniffed me out.
I slide away from the position he’s forced me in, putting more distance between us. I need to get away so I can breathe properly again.
“I think I’ve said it enough, but just in case you might actually have some kind of hearing issue, I do not want to sit with you.”
Please, go away.
It’s the obvious plea behind my words. Why can’t he take the hint? I’m still trying to maintain my composure when my feet are quickly lifted from the floor and I’m being swooped up like a sack and tossed over his shoulders, like I weigh nothing.
I instantly panic. This isn’t okay.
“Are you crazy? Let me go!”
“I didn’t come all the way up here for a ‘no’, sweetheart, you’re coming with me.” He speaks firmly, giving no room for refusal.
Despite my wriggling and obvious protest, he ignores, walking towards the exit.
“You’re pretty light.” He comments as he heads towards the cafeteria now.
I’m absolutely mortified as we step into the large refectory hall. I feel all the confused and questioning glances coming my way and I instantly kiss my dream of a normal life away.
There’s no way the entire school would be forgetting this anytime soon.We reach his table and he drops me, surprisingly gentle, right by his side with his large hands.
I’m greeted with the sight of his two friends. They both pass a perplexed look that shifts between Silas and I, and I can’t help but blush from embarrassment. I hope they at least say something but they remain silent.
I quickly notice Elena, sitting on the other side next to Silas and she’s glaring daggers at me, not even bothering to hide her disgust this time.
“What’s she doing here?”
“I invited her.” Silas’ response is curt and he doesn’t bother to look her way as he answers. It only makes her more furious and continues to shoot her angry eye beams my way.
Why is she so pissed with me? He’s literally the one that dragged me down here, yet I am the one to blame.
“If you let her stay a moment more, I’m going to leave Silas.”
Silence engulfs the table at her sudden threat. I’m staring. His friends are staring. We’re all staring, like it’s some showdown between the two. She’s livid and he takes a bite out of his sausage like nothing worthwhile is going on.
“Silas!”
He drops his fork and looks at her with a menacing smirk that sends frightening chills down my spine, not just mine. She shows apprehension in her eyes as she stares at him, moving slightly away, knowing she’s pushed too much.
“Be my guest.”
That did it.
Her face explodes into a bright red shade of embarrassment. She huffs and storms away dramatically, only drawing more attention to our table. At this point, I don’t care who looks anymore. I reach for the eggs on the plate placed in front of me and take a bite.
“I’m Lucas, this is Adam.”
I look up to both his friends that introduce themselves in Silas’ steed.
“Hi, I’m Freya.”
They both return an overly friendly smile now that Elena is gone and it almost seems like there’s some inside joke I’m not getting somewhere.
“Nice to meet you, Freya.”
Lunch flies by like a breeze but not the smooth gentle kind that tickles your ears and dances in your hair. It’s the kind that gives you a sense that a storm is brewing. Now, the hallway is filled with buzzing muttering as I leave. They don’t even bother to hide their blatant gossips or whisper at least. I hear it in the hallways when I pass; I hear it behind me in class. They’re all on about Silas leaving Elena and showing obvious interest in me. They couldn’t be farther from the truth.I don’t even know this guy that well and he’s already ruined my school reputation. If only he’ll leave me alone and focus on his actual girlfriend. A part of me knows he’s definitely not going to, and my wolf seems thrilled by it.Damn you.The day drifts and I’m now numb to it all. To sun falls and the night emerges. it’s almost time for the Full Moon ceremony. It’s a ceremony held on the first night of a full moon in honor of the moon goddess. We change into our wolves and run free under its glow,
It’s the longest few seconds of my life. His lips move painfully slow towards mine. In that second, I panic with varying emotions whirling within me, yet still unable to move or do anything.A torch light suddenly flashes in our direction and I regain control of my motor skills. I fly backwards, putting enough distance between us but lose my balance in the protest. Luckily, he’s still holding my arm so his grip prevents me from hitting the hard ground.“What are you two doing here?”The voice sounds like one of our teachers. I’m unable to see the face because the torch flashes in my eye. I say nothing, trying to shield my eyes. However, Silas remains quiet next to me, his jaw ticking in slight irritation - unfazed by the bright lights in his eyes.“Get back to the gathering right now! No loitering about school.”“Yes, sir. We’ll do just that.” Silas answers, being surprisingly respectful and the teacher leaves us sooner than expected. Perks of being the next Alpha king, I presume. If
Our talons rip through the flesh of his upper arm, enlisting a yelp of pain from his lips but I don’t stop there. It’s followed by a blow from our claws, sending him flying a good distance away.Their scent is more pungent than ever and I’m more than sure what we were against.Damn rogues.A shriek suddenly echoes in the air right beside me. I immediately know something bad has happened to Freya. We turn swiftly, growling menacingly at the second intruder standing over her motionless body. My wolf loses sanity, instantly taking almost full control of our body and lunging forward at him.He changes, ripping through his clothes into a dark brown wolf smaller than mine. We brawl for moments; deadly strikes follow after the other. I lean in for his jugular vein but the first pounces unto us from the back, now its two against one.My wolf is fed up with this. He releases a deathly howl into the air that moves the winds and shakes the earth beneath us. The howl of an Alpha King reverberates
I’m discharged earlier due to no injuries or scratches from the attack but still grateful for the brief opportunity to just rest from the whole school drama. The next day, however, I couldn’t escape from it. I am more nervous to walk down the school hallways but Xena had my back through most of it. We’ve grown closer with every interaction and I know we were destined to be friends. The sun is exceptionally hot today and worse of all is we have P.E. I’m mortified, not because I despise running - far from it. I had somehow managed to escape running infront of everyone else at the Moon ceremony but today, the sun was out and bright and the whole class were to participate in the running exercise. It isn’t a race but I couldn’t risk exposing my very inferior physical prowess. The run begins once the gym teacher blew his whistle. Into the vast green landscape of a backyard the school owned. It is somewhat a of jog. No one is supposed to be breaking a sweat, yet with much of my might, it’s s
The pain from the impact stings the tip of my fingers, but the anger within me boils hotter than everything else. His face forcefully swerves to his right and freezes in place. He makes no move to run back to me or say anymore words. All his reaction does nothing but fuel my rage. How dare he try to get to me? I begin to wonder if the whole saving me from getting hurt was some ploy to use me as his next target? If this is just another one of his games. I wonder if he saved those other girls just to use them and toss them aside for Elena. For a moment, I had actually believed he is a good person. His head slowly turns to me and there’s nothing but coldness staring. It’s clear no one has ever dared slap some sense into him, but it doesn’t faze me one bit.He makes a move to speak but I beat him to it.“Look here, asshole. I’m entirely grateful for your help. Do I owe you now? Probably, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to play this game with you. You have a girlfriend, Silas. Stop reeling
Silas POV:Another boring school day. I toss my textbooks into my locker, slamming it shut. Elena stands right by my side, tapping away on the screen of her phone. She’s been more clingy than usual these days and it’s starting to get on my nerves. Sadly, there's only little I could do or say. Betrothed wolves were meant to be seen together always; something about demonstrating the closeness of their bond. A good Alpha is nothing without a Luna, so the saying went. Then again, wolves only felt a strong connection with their mates and even in the rare cases of betrothal, there was meant to be a form of partnership, yet I felt an aftertaste of repulsion having Elena around, hovering about everything I do. I feel no solace in being hers, instead someone else plagues my thoughts every waking moment. It’s like my mind’s been drugged and I can’t think straight anymore.Freya, that damn Freya. Annoying, witty, with a peculiar allure to her. I want her, my wolf wants her but I can’t say if i
FREYA'S POV:The whole cafeteria scene plagues my mind endlessly, ruining every mental wall I had painstakingly built around thoughts of Silas. Just when I was getting the hang of it, accepting what was to be my new life, he walks in and chucks it all in turmoil and leaves.I know it’s impossible, incomprehensive, but I wonder if there's some sincerity in him. If possibly, my absence confused and left a little discomfort in his mind just as it had me. Then maybe he's actually into me.It isn’t something I should be pleased with. He’s with someone already and I still needed to steer clear, yet the possibilities please my heart just a bit.The next day seems less dull and even more promising than typical. Is it because Xena would be returning or something else? Who knows?“Hey.”I close my locker turning to Adam. He gives his normal charming smile, made to break hearts, and winks at me. I roll my eyes at his antics but offer a smile nevertheless. It’s weird how we’ve sort of grown a bi
FREYA'S POV:I took hours washing out the taste from my mouth, traumatized by the experience — the smell, the chunky texture, the painfully tight grip that held me in place. I couldn’t break free no matter how I struggled and the memories were haunting and filled me with hatred. My weakness becomes painfully obvious to me every day and I can’t help but hate it so much. If I had been truly born as something better than an Omega, I would have been strong enough to push her down… and hurt her. I’m standing in the girl’s toilet in front of the large mirrors. I look up at myself — eyes red, my shoulders shivering not from the cold, totally embarrassed. I make a promise not to take any more shit from her.Evening came quickly for which I am grateful. Xena was since back from home, placing some of her new things in place as I walk in with my luggage. I attempt to roll my huge bag across the room with much struggle but she quickly moves to me, taking the bag with so much ease like it weighs
FREYA’S POV:I’m floating on the softest cloud ever, hovering over everyone else down below.I don’t want it is but there’s no sense of pain or strife within me… only peace.I’m finally at peace with every conflicting thought I’ve ever had about myself and everything around me, my friends… my new family. I regret nothing, and even if I could go back in time, I’d change nothing. It as though I’ve been reborn into my new self with a new dawn and beginning staring back at me.I don’t remember what kind of dream I have when my eyes finally open from this deep slumber but it leaves a sense of complete fulfillment and happiness.Once my eyes are open, I’m staring right up at the ceiling and quickly know that’s I’m in another new environment again.I groggily seat up, groaning once the pain in my lower back hits and suddenly feeling weight on my thigh. The weight being Xena passed off on my lap. This moment reminds me of all the times she’s stuck right by my bedside every single time I pass
FREYA’S POV:Luckily for me he actually shuts up unable to come up with anything else once it’s clear that I’m not going to budge at all.I take both his hands and with enough force smash against the chains with the same stone, continuously; hard with my stored up anger with whatever messed up fate I was born with.Like I don’t even get to rest for a week, or month before something major is pulled over me.Eventually it begins to crack under the pressure and finally breaks apart giving both his arm freedom.Instead of standing up, however, he falls back against the wall groaning in much more pain and clutching at his chest.“Silas!” I reach for him pulling him up again.“Freya… you should know, they gave me another toxic dose of wolfsband before locking me up. I can barely move or get us out of here. This is your last chance to get out of here and save yourself.” He says in a strained voice breaking out in cold sweat.“No way… you’re coming with me one way or another.” I say trying ha
FREYA’S POV:No matter how hard I try to focus on it I can’t seem to connect with Silas anymore adding more to my currently panicking state.I can’t help but think the worse especially with how bad he had sounded before I wasn’t able to hear him again. He’s definitely not safe or okay… I can feel it in the pit of my gut.Something extremely vile is going on.And he expects me to just abandon it all and leave? No fucking way I’m not.I walk up ahead towards the exit seeing a few unconscious bodies in my way as I walk by before I’m just by the doors to freedom where the other three are casually waiting from me.Xena stands up abruptly moving over to me.“How was it? Were you able to link with him?” She asks expectantly and all their eyes look up to me as well, expecting some form of newsGood news.I suck in my trembling breathe before I can speak.“Elena’s gone crazy and started some kind of usurp. Silas and his parents are currently captured… and the wizard I was talking about… someho
SILAS’ POV:“Magic?” I turn to Father, staring at him in disbelief but he doesn’t bother looking my way, probably because he doesn’t believe I deserve an explanation.“Oh… you didn’t know?” Elena says, focusing on me. “This family heirloom you see here is a magic artifact that was stolen by your great grandmother from a small group of wizards and used against them to force their submission.”She explains, dangling it right in my face.“You knew this?” I ask him again but he doesn’t bother looking my way.“She took the artifact from the magic users because they were abusing the power and using it to terrorize the people. Taking it was for our protection.” He explains instead.“Liars!” Elena yells out suddenly loud but her voice is different from before. It sounds merged with a male’s deeper voice, echoing her words immediately she says them.“You took the power for yourselves and used it selfishly.” She adds as her purple eyes begin glowing.I’m caught between thinking this is just an
SILAS’ POV:“What is this about now?” He snaps once we’re alone on the balcony. It’s just weird how he hasn’t noticed it, the hint of animosity oozing out of Elena and her father, after how it seems to be that they’re closely keeping an eye on every single thing we’ve been doing since they’ve walked in.“This isn’t the time to be a bastard of a father, so just listen to me.” I snap, easily provoked.“If this is your plan to ruin years of hard work I’ve put into this agreement, I’ll have to remind you whose life is at stake.” He points out cruelly without batting an eyelash.Again, he doesn’t bother to hear a single thing I have to say, which irks me even more. How can someone be so prideful that they can’t see what’s in front of them?“How loyal do you think Crescent moon pack is to the throne?” I ask.“Of course, no one can ever be loyal enough. We have more than a handful of wolf packs looking for a chance to overthrow us and take the mantle of power for themselves, and that’s why w
SILAS’ POV:It took what feels like an extra day since Father’s visit before I’m finally let out of my cell to change into a tux, of course for the dinner that’s scheduled tonight. My full strength hasn’t returned, so I don’t bother escaping and searching for Freya. I need to wait for the perfect time, when my strength is at its peak again.Once I’m dressed in the suit, however, two metal cuffs linked together by chains and most definitely laced with silver are clasped onto both my arms, restricting my movement.“Alpha’s orders; so you don’t go wolfing out when we least expect It.” The guard explains, tossing the key into his pocket. My old man had really considered everything. Keeping me in chains during said dinner to also to show the in-laws that he has me under his thumb this time and I won’t pull any funny business again.Interesting.Once secured, I’m escorted into a limo just outside, waiting to take me back home and farther from the place he has Freya locked up.I’m skeptical
FREYA’S POV:More than a few hours, and possibly a whole day have gone by since I gained consciousness, and I still can’t feel Silas. My wolf grows even more panicked as I feel bare and stripped for some reason. It’s weird how I’ve lived without it for years but days after receiving the bond and strengthening it, it almost feels like I just can’t live without it.The silence and white walls around aren’t helping at all.“Hey guys, wanna play a game to pass time?” Lucas yells out so I can hear what he’s saying.“Really, even now, you want to be goofy?” Xena admonishes him, probably with her eyes.“What? There’s nothing else to do.” He points out and he’s not wrong at all.But it won’t be easy focusing my mind on being calm… not when Silas is missing.“How long do you think it’s going to take before King Darius holds the mating ceremony?” I ask out loud, not really expecting an answer.“He’s going to want to get things sooner, so maybe we’re looking at five days, if not sooner.” Lucas
FREYA’S POV:“Freya… Freya…”The voice that seems a distance away summons my conscious mind back into my body and my groggy eyes slowly lift open.It takes a moment for my blurry vision to take shape and I can finally make out exactly where I am again, and where the voice is coming from.First off, I realize I’m in a cell room. How do I know?Same white walls just like before, resembling an asylum… probably designed to ensure that prisoners lose their grasp on reality and lose their minds.Man, I had never thought I’d somehow find myself back here, but here I am, trapped in prison again.Only difference with this room is the very tiny window high up on the wall to the other room; the hole that the voice seeps in.Second thing I realize is just how familiar the voice is.“Freya…” It calls out again like a harsh whisper.“Xena?” I croak, still having a dry throat.“Oh my god!” Her voice goes octaves higher and suddenly sounds extremely ecstatic. “Oh my God, Freya… You’re awake!”Yes I a
SILAS’ POV:The force of cold and chilling water splashing across my face forces my consciousness to come crashing back into my body.I immediately go on defense, remembering the last thing I had witnessed while gasping for air but I’m far from where I had been the last time, my eyes were open.Instead of the wet and muddy earth of the forest and sturdy trees around, I’m kneeling in a plain room with white walls and both my arms are heavily chained away from my body. And right in front of me is my father, sitting calmly. My rage returns only in seconds as I lurch forward after him, tugging at the chains to break them, but I’m pulled back by the unbreakable metal once my strength is unable to do so much.“Laced with Silver.” He points out just how much of my efforts are being wasted with my struggling.Even with that, I continue my struggle like a rabid dog thirsty for blood for a few more minutes before the fatigue actually begins to settle in.“Don’t try to fight too much and waste y
