After shopping and stopping for dinner, by the time they got home, it was almost 8 p.m. The two young women helped each other carry things from the trunk of the car and put them on the kitchen table.
“Next month, the company has a long holiday; will you go home?” Tharatchanan asked as she put away things.
“Ahh... The long holiday starts today and continues until I can find a new job,” the woman replied, taking out the things she bought and putting them in the refrigerator.
“Don’t tell me you can’t get along with your co-workers.”
“No, all my co-workers are good. But travel far. The work is hard, and the money is little,” the woman said, letting out a loud sigh. “When you work late, you know that even on holidays, sometimes you still must go in and collect the results of the experiments that you have left over. It’s tiring, and I would like to work in a higher position.”
“Have you told your mother yet?”
Ladapha immediately shook her head. “I guarantee they will order me home.”
Tharatchanan smiled and laughed when he heard the answer. Of course, she knows the personality of her younger sister, who doesn’t like going back to work at a resort in her hometown. Because she must deal with unpredictable guests, including her.
“But you can’t just sit and sleep like this without finding a job.”
Ladapha looked up and smiled with pleading eyes.
“OK, I promise you I’ll find a new job quickly.”
Sigh... Tharatchanan’s sigh sounded again. She squinted at his younger sister, who blinked at her.
“Oh, my savings will run out because of you.”
“So cute!” she said sweetly. She walked in and hugged her elder sister tightly. Before loosening her arms and giving a sweet smile. Tharatchanan looked at her sister and shook his head before walking out of the kitchen. Only Ladapha stood there, smiling with happiness and relief. At least I won’t be home for a while.
She wants to go completely crazy.
Ladapha cursed inwardly as she leaned back on the back of the chair. After waiting for several days for emails from various companies, as of now, there is still no response. She raised her hand and ruffled her shoulder-length brown hair. One hand reached out and picked up the snack that was on the table and ate it because she was still waiting for the email. But she cannot leave it unemployed for several months. Because her sister might chase you home for sure.
The young woman sighed as she scrolled through posts and updates, including the wistful ramblings of her old classmates. With a reluctant resolve, she pushed herself up from the computer screen. It seemed unlikely that a reply from the companies she had applied to would arrive anytime soon.
Ladapha stepped out of her bedroom and into the kitchen to find a snack. Yet, her sighs echoed at least ten times as she walked back to her seat in front of the computer, resuming her previous spot. Suddenly, the sound of an email notification broke through the silence. Without hesitation, she clicked to open it. As her eyes scanned the content, the once sullen expression on her beautiful face melted into a bright smile.
Ladapha stepped out of her bedroom and into the kitchen to grab a snack, letting out a series of sights at least ten of them—before returning to her computer desk. Just as she settled back in her seat, the notification chime of an incoming email broke the monotony. Without a second thought, she opened it immediately. As her eyes scanned the message, a glowing smile replaced the somber look on her beautiful face.
“Yes! Finally!” she exclaimed in excitement, jumping up and dancing as though she had just won the lottery. Although the email wasn’t a job offer yet, the invitation to interview at such a prestigious company was a cause for celebration. It was a major firm with an impressive marketing reach both domestically and internationally, and its employee benefits were exceptional.
Heaven has finally smiled upon me!
Overwhelmed with joy, Ladapha spent several moments basking in her happiness before dashing toward her wardrobe. She eagerly began inspecting outfits suitable for her interview scheduled for next Tuesday. Ten minutes passed and her entire closet had been emptied, yet she still couldn’t find the perfect outfit. Frustrated, she sighed and started putting everything back in its place.
“I’ll just buy a new one. Maybe it’ll bring me good luck for this job,” she muttered to herself, grabbing a fresh set of clothes and hurrying into the bathroom.
After finishing her shower, the sound of her phone ringing drew her attention. She picked it up, glanced at the caller ID, and promptly answered the call.
“What’s up, sis?” Ladapha answered cheerfully.
“I’ll be home late today. Planning to have dinner with Art,” her sister replied on the other end.
“Perfect timing! I was about to head out to buy a few things anyway,” Ladapha said.
“Alright then, just make sure you lock the door.”
“Got it!” she replied in a sing-song tone before hanging up.
Ladapha set her phone aside, quickly applied some makeup, grabbed her bag, and left her room in a rush.
“The number that you’ve dialed cannot be connected. Please try again later.”
Tharatchanan stood in front of her boyfriend’s condo door, sighing in frustration. She had been waiting there for almost half an hour, and every attempt to call him ended with the same automated response. Finally, after debating with herself, she decided to use the spare key he had given her to let herself in and wait inside.
It had been nearly two weeks since Tharatchanan had last seen her boyfriend. He claimed to be swamped with work—meetings, deadlines from his boss, and client visits were the constant excuses whenever she called or texted. She didn’t want to bother him too much, knowing how busy he was. But as the days dragged on, the prolonged distance between them began to gnaw at her heart.
She sighed heavily, wandering around his condo aimlessly before heading to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. Moments later, the sound of the front door opening caught her attention. She hastened toward the living room but froze mid-step when she heard a woman’s voice. Her heart sank, and she instinctively ducked into a hiding spot in the kitchen, covering her mouth to stifle her breathing while straining to listen to the conversation.
“Are you sure your girlfriend won’t mind you being here with me like this?” a sweet, flirtatious voice teased from the doorway.
Tharatchanan crouched low, her hands trembling as she tried to stay silent. Her ears tuned in, and soon, the silhouettes of two figures appeared on the wall opposite her hiding spot near the dining table. She watched their shadows move, the man’s arm encircling the woman as they shared an intimate moment. Her heart shattered at the sight, tears streaming down her cheeks before she could stop them. Her body shook so violently that she couldn’t muster the strength to stand.
She confirmed her worst fears when the shadows revealed her boyfriend holding and kissing another woman.
What did I do wrong? Why is he doing this to me?
“Stop it... If your girlfriend shows up, this won’t end well,” the woman said in a mock-scolding tone, her voice thick with feigned concern but unmistakably inviting.
“She won’t come. We’ve been seeing each other for a year now, and she still hasn’t caught us,” the man replied casually, his voice dripping with confidence.
“Then break up with her already,” the woman demanded, her tone turning irritated.
“We’ll deal with that later. Right now, let’s enjoy ourselves,” he said, brushing off her suggestion.
Tharatchanan could sit there, helpless and broken-hearted, to the sound of their laughter and kiss something more. Her tear-filled eyes stayed fixed on the shadows on the wall until they disappeared entirely, followed by the sound of a bedroom door closing.
Her body collapsed, all strength draining away as the weight of the betrayal hit her. They had been together for over five years. She had trusted him, envisioned a future of marriage and family. And now, all of that was gone, torn apart by his infidelity.
A bitter, self-deprecating laugh escaped her lips as she wiped her tears away. It wasn’t the first time she’d been heartbroken or cheated on, but this was the first time it felt like it was killing her inside.
She stood shakily, glancing toward the bedroom door, where the muffled sounds of their intimacy continued. With an empty gaze, she walked out of the condo, leaving everything—including her broken heart—behind.
Will there ever be someone I can truly trust?
Someone who won’t betray me?
Tharatchanan didn’t even realize she had already stepped outside her boyfriend’s condo building until the blaring sound of a car horn snapped her back to reality. Startled, she turned her head to see the bright headlights of an approaching car and quickly darted across the road to safety. Pausing on the other side, she glanced back at the condo one last time before turning away. With hurried steps, she made her way to her car and drove off into the night.
“You’re back already?” Ladapha’s cheerful voice greeted her sister as she sat alone, flipping through TV channels on the couch. She frowned in confusion when Tharatchanan brushed past her without as much as a word. Shrugging it off, she turned her attention back to the television and began switching channels absentmindedly.
Meanwhile, Tharatchanan had barely made it into her room before collapsing to the floor, her body wracked with sobs. The images of her boyfriend with another woman were still fresh in her mind, searing her heart. She couldn’t process the betrayal—the realization that he had been seeing someone else for an entire year while she had trusted him completely.
She cried for what felt like an eternity, struggling to steel herself against the pain. When the tears finally began to subside, she resolved to let go of everything tied to him. With newfound determination, she gathered all the gifts he had given her over the years, placing them into garbage bags. One by one, she dragged the bags out of her room and down to the ground floor, her arms trembling under the weight of her emotions and the items she once cherished.
“What are you doing?” Ladapha asked, standing up from the couch as she watched her sister’s haul bag after bag down the stairs. Some of the items looked familiar—she remembered Tharatchanan once calling them special because they were gifts from her boyfriend.
“Get rid of it all! Every single thing!” Tharatchanan shouted, her voice cracking with emotion.
“Did something happen?” Ladapha pressed, her eyes filled with concern.
But Tharatchanan stayed silent, her tears flowing freely as she sobbed uncontrollably. Her sister could only watch, puzzled and worried, piecing together what little she could from the fragments of Tharatchanan’s behavior.
“What happened? Please, tell me!” Ladapha asked again, stepping closer.
Tharatchanan wiped the tears streaming down her face. She wanted to explain but couldn’t form the words without choking on her sobs.
“Why… why…?” She cried, her voice trembling.
“Did Art break up with you?” Ladapha asked softly, her tone cautious as she moved closer.
At this, Tharatchanan’s sobs turned into heart-wrenching cries. She shook her head and finally managed to utter, “He cheated… That bastard... He cheated” ...
Her voice broke with every word as she collapsed into another fit of crying, unable to contain the overwhelming pain. Ladapha wrapped her arms around her sister, clasping her. Although she couldn’t fully understand the depth of Tharatchanan’s hurt, she stayed close, offering silent comfort as her elder sister’s world crumbled around her.
EpilogueThe afternoon breeze swept gently through the public park. The sound of footsteps came to a halt before a large tree, from where a medium-sized shrine could be seen in the distance. It wasn’t the first time Peng Lu Xian had walked past this place, but it was the first time she had stopped and gazed at it for so long. She watched a woman emerge from the shrine with a sorrowful expression. When another visitor arrived and stepped closer, the woman muttered softly to herself,“This must be the place. They say if you pray for love here, your wish will be granted.”Lu Xian stood silently for a while, watching until everyone had left. Her empty heart, weighed down by the pain of love, made her skeptical that the heavens would truly grant a wish so easily. But if what people said was true, then it wouldn’t hurt to try.Sh
Special III Love is beginning.Tharatchanan released her grip on his shirt and took a step forward, wrapping her arms around Sarunphat from behind. It wasn’t love that drove her action, it was a desperate attempt to ease the pain.“Can you sleep with me?” she asked, her voice trembling. Was it a reckless thought or a deeply buried desire? She didn’t know. All she knew was that if it could soothe her pain, even just a little… “Just this once. I promise we’ll get a divorce tomorrow. Please.”Sarunphat stood frozen, shocked by her words. He was so confused by his feelings toward this woman—was he starting to care for her as more than just his wife? He wasn’t sure. But deep down, he knew this wasn’t supposed to happen.Tharatchanan let go of him, wiping her
Special II A Clear Feeling.Tharatchanan replied and waited for the other person to respond, but he read the message without replying. She figured he must think she was a terrible person. Before she could put her phone away, another call came in. Her round eyes glanced at the number on the screen, and she reluctantly answered.“You’re not calling to scold me, are you?” she asked sarcastically.No. I just wanted to ask where I can pick you up.Her expression shifted to one of surprises. “Are you sure? I’m at a blind date,” she replied hesitantly.[So, where should I pick you up?]“At the restaurant…” Tharatchanan didn’t reject his offer to pick her up, knowing it would be late by the time the evening ended. Still, she was surprised that he had called
The workday dragged on until it was finally over. Tharatchanan gathered the papers scattered across her desk, putting everything in order, before grabbing her bag and clocking out of the company. Each day felt unbearably long and monotonous: waking up early, heading to work, coming home, eating, and going to bed. Even though she had begun speaking more with her husband over the past month, their relationship had not deepened into anything resembling affection. As she stepped out of the elevator, her steps halted when her phone rang in her bag. She reached in to check the caller ID.“What’s the matter?” Tharatchanan asked as soon as she saw her husband’s name on the screen. It was rare for him to call or even initiate a conversation with her.Nothing. Mother mentioned that you wouldn’t be coming home for dinner today, so she asked me to check if you’d be back later.Hearing that made her feel a twinge of self-pity, thoug
Chapter 58 A Familiar Feeling. The long, sweet night had passed, giving way to a quiet weekend morning. The tiny figure on the bed stirred, her heavy eyelids fluttering open. She glanced at the space beside her before mustering what little strength she had to sit up. Her hips ached deeply, leaving her almost unable to move. Her round eyes scanned the silent room, finding no trace of the man.The door opened suddenly, and she quickly pulled the blanket up to cover her body, her gaze darting to Yin Yue as he walked in.“You’re awake,” he said, approaching her.Ladapha nodded in response, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. She shifted to get off the bed, but her trembling legs had little strength left. The corner of Yin Yue’s mouth lifted into a small smile as he moved to lift her in his arms. His sharp eyes took in her b
Chapter 57 Steps to Restore Memory.Unconsciously, Yin Yue’s body moved, closing the distance between them. He pushed her petite frame against the wall, capturing her lips in a deep, yearning kiss. The intensity left her breathless, forcing her to push him away. Yet, the brief pause gave him just enough time to let his tongue slip past her defenses.“Umm…” she moaned softly in protest, but the sound only deepened his resolve. Reluctantly, she broke away from the kiss, her face flushed and her breathing uneven. Yin Yue gazed at her beautiful, shy expression as she looked away. Gently, he lifted her chin, forcing her eyes to meet his again, and placed a teasing kiss on her lips, one that sent her senses spiraling.Ladapha felt her body betray her; it ignored her mind’s commands entirely.
