At exactly eight I arrived at the hospital and saw Desmond in the reception area sitting on the bench. He looked like a visitor with a cast on his right leg waiting for someone while his eyes roamed around. When he glanced at the entrance, he waved at me and tried to get up while holding his crutches.
I immediately ran towards him and held his shoulder. "What are you doing here? Why aren't you in your room? Why aren't you in your hospital clothes?" I shot him a series of questions making his beaming eyes squint at me."What do you mean? I told you yesterday, I'm going to bring you to my favorite place today!" he uttered while chuckling at my shocked expression. "You think I was kidding?!""Well, your accident may not be serious but if you're going to force your leg to walk, it will get worse!" I rebutted with my hands showing a quote sign in the air. "C'mon, let's go back to your bed!"I was about to help him walk when he held my hand. I felt the spark clothed over me, my cheeks blushing red when I gazed at him. I couldn't fathom what was on that stare but it made me conscious.Did he feel that tingling sensation, too? I hoped not!"Don't worry about me, señorita. I am used to getting hurt. This is nothing to me. Also, my friend Adam will be with us!" his smile could wash all of my worries away. I felt a little disconnected from the present for all of my senses were being drowned in him. "He's going to drive us!""What?! Adam?" I was startled a bit, blinking my eyes as my soul went back to my body. "Who is Adam?" I asked, caught red-handed that I wasn't paying attention to him earlier. I earned a more narrowed stare from him after."He's my friend and he's at the entrance now!" he smiled back while raising his hand in a gesture to call his friend's attention.I saw a good-looking guy, taller than Desmond and with a well-built body, I could guess he was an avid fan of the gym. His long hair was ponytailed down on his back. A strong arm that was raised in the air and a long hand busy waving at us. His voice was manly as he called his friend beside me."Yow, Des, bro!" he had long legs visible to his strides. "Goodness, dude. Valerie just told me yesterday. Damn, if I were you I would report that asshole haciendero that hit you!" okay, those overwhelming descriptions I said earlier, I took them all back. I narrowed my stare at this guy who was now staring back at me."Adam, dude...calm down!" Desmond whispered. His side glance in my direction displayed anxiety while he bit his lower lip giving his friend a sign to shut up.I crossed my hands over my chest and raised my chin while my vision was fixed on his 'friend' in front of us."Your girlfriend? Bro, she's cute!" hmm! A player I should say but I liked what he said. Either of the two, his fluttering made me blush. "Hello, Miss. I'm Adam. Desmond's life saver!"I angled my eyebrow while staring at his smirk. Leaving his hand hanging in the air, I shifted my gaze to Desmond whose cheeks were beet red at the moment."Cut it, bro!" his voice was getting smaller and smaller. "She's not my girl...yet. Do not jinx me here!" and commented in between his gritted teeth. I heard a gasp from Adam and also saw a wink."Des?!" I called out when I could barely hear his voice. Obviously, these two were speaking about me. The two stood straight and glanced at me...wearing sheepish smiles."Adam, this is Señorita Amy Leah. Daughter of Don Miguel~""The asshole haciendero that hit him yesterday. Hi! It's nice to meet you" I cut Desmond off while my eyes were fixed on his now getting-pale friend."Ow! My bad. But it's also nice to meet you, Señorita!" Adam uttered in a not-sorry-way for I saw a slight sneer on his face. "So, I'm going to be your driver today. Des, did you already fix everything here?""Yes! I already had my discharge papers. I am free now!" Desmond smiled. He was about to take a step when I stopped him."The nurses here won't just give you a discharge paper without your guardian. How did you do that?" I questioned... sternly!"I may have used my uncle's name!" he twitched his lips while glancing around."And your uncle's name is...!" it was Adam wearing his annoying grin."The ha~cien~dero!" he whispered while stuttering."Seriously, huh?!" instead of getting mad, I laughed at his boldness to use my father's name. Adam burst out upon hearing his lie."All right!" Adam cut off. "You sure you can walk? Do you want me to give you a piggyback ride?" he was teasing Desmond and the latter glared at him instantly."Just take my backpack and drive later!" he slightly pushed his friend who just laughed louder. When Adam left, he glanced at me shyly. "I'm sorry about that. My friend is~""He's funny, don't worry!" I tapped his arm and gleamed at him. "So, let's go. Show me this favorite place of yours!"With Adam's help, Desmond managed to make things easy. I also found out that he asked Adam to prepare some food and drinks. He also brought a picnic mat and a thin blanket. I couldn't help but feel fascinated watching a big guy like Adam obey Desmond's commands."Why are you smiling?" his voice brought me out of my trance and glanced at him. "You've been staring at my friend for quite a while now, señorita!" maybe I was just imagining stuff but I heard a tinge of jealousy in his tone."Huh?! Well, it's not like what you think but...!" I saw him raise his eyebrow at me, wondering maybe. "I mean, how can you have the power to command him? He brought all of these because you told him so?!" my eyes widened as my shoulders bounced up.At first, he was stunned and just gawking at me. Then he chuckled while adjusting his crutches. We were both sitting on the bench while waiting for Adam set the picnic mat. We were by the lake under a maple tree. Only a few people were here. Some were couples, others were people just strolling with their dogs."Adam is my best buddy since our daycare days. We help each other a lot. He's like a brother to me!" he explained well. I just nodded as I fixed my orbs on him."Yow, Des, the picnic date is set!" we were startled when suddenly Adam spoke. "So, I'm gonna leave you both for a while and call me when you're finished dating!" he nested with a wink."Seriously, Adam! Señorita Amy Leah and I are just going to talk and eat. That's all!" Desmond defensively groaned cracking his voice in the between."Yeah! Whatever my boss!" he just shrugged off. Their banters were quite entertaining I couldn't help myself but giggle. "Buenos dias, señorita!" he also bent down and took my hand. It was too late for Desmond to stop him when Adam kissed the back of my palm. Now, it was just the two of us smiling at each other. Till it was me who darted away for I could feel the heat on my cheeks and it was reaching my ears.We let Adam drive away first before we went to the picnic mat spreading widely on the grass. I help Desmond sit and leaned his back on the foot of the tree trunk putting his crutches beside him. I sat in front of him and opened the basket with food. Its delicious aroma cringed my nose and the warm and nourishing smell of the soup hit my nostrils. I literally skipped breakfast at the resort for this and now I was starving."Wow! Don't tell me Adam cook all of these!" my eyes widened and my stomach grumbled at the sumptuous food inside the basket. Morning feast in delight. Bacon, hotdogs, egg sandwich with melted cheese, and mango float for dessert. In addition, there were also two plastic cups of milk bubble tea and a bottle of water."Nah! My mom cooked all of them. She also made the dessert for you. Adam doesn't know how to cook. They have maids to do that for them!" Desmond smilingly answered. So, Adam was rich. That explained the car, although it wasn't as expensive as ours."I see. How did you become best friends?" I asked while helping him stuff some food on the paper plates."I saved him from the bullies at our school once!" he simply uttered ignoring the impact of his answer."You saved him? Do you know some self-defense?" I asked.I was caught in a trance when he suddenly stuffed a pinch of an egg sandwich in my mouth. I could feel my cheeks getting hot red and it reached my ears. When I stared at him, he was looking at the food on his plate."No, but I know how to punch with my fists and kick with my legs!" he smilingly answered. I chuckled at his funny reply and after a few moments of eerie silence, we just sat there staring straight at each other, like counting the time or waiting for who was going to speak again."Do you like the food?" he asked then...gently."Yeah! I love it. They're all yummy. Your mom is a very good cook!" I honestly responded. This meal was indeed the most delicious breakfast I had ever had in years. Not just because of its taste but because of the person I was eating with."I'm glad you like the food. I'm glad you agreed to come here with me!" I could hear some seriousness in his tone but tried not to think deeply about it. I just gave him a tiny smile as my response."This is the best breakfast I have had in years, Desmond. It's the truth!" I told him earning a gawk from him as if he wanted to ask why but chose not to say anything. For that, he earned my admiration for respecting my privacy. After a couple of minutes of silence, he asked again and this time I almost couldn't breathe. "Señorita, would you come back here this winter holiday?""I don't know!" for some reason, I couldn't clarify, his face looked gloomy. "But maybe. I mean if dad and mom will visit the hacienda, I will come again!" I added making his glum expression bright. "Why did you ask?" I was anxious to ask that but I was also curious like thrilled to know his reason."Coz, I wanna see you again. I mean, I wanna tour you to my second favorite place!" his smile displayed a hue of joy and yearning, waiting for the holiday to come faster."How many places do you like?" I asked wondering. At the same time trying to channel our conversation into something else. If he would continue making me blush, I might have disappeared on my spot.He then shifted his stare to the crystal lake, his side view showed an emotion thousands of words to describe. He placed his hands on both sides of his hips pinning his back on the tree trunk. His flickering long eyelashes mesmerized me, I could say I would kill someone to have those."All are my favorite places. For as long as I am with the person I like!"Goodness, I couldn't stop blushing I shifted my glance immediately at the food avoiding his gaze at me. What was he trying to imply? I would like to ask that but a loud honk from Adam's car interrupted our moment...if that's how you called it."Adam is back!" I whispered and got up at once. I saw Adam striding in our direction while waving at us. His grin was from ear to ear and his eyes formed a teasing sight."Señorita, I wish to see you again!" he whispered after slowly getting up not letting Adam hear it. But even so, his bestfriend would still poke fun at him anyway."Bro, times up. I have to go to my classes now. Have a class this afternoon, you know!" Adam uttered in a hurry. That's the only time I realized we spent at least four hours with each other here by the lake. "Sorry, señorita. Still studying. But in case you wanna get in touch with lowlife humans like us, can I get your number?" he also told me while studying my reaction. Desmond was also quietly listening."Sure! Give me your phone!" I told Adam and saved my number on his phone. He tried to call me and my phone rang in my purse."It's working. It's not a made-up number!" Adam chuckled. He glanced at his friend who was still in silent mode. "I will just put these in the trunk!" Adam seemed to understand what Desmond was trying to say that he busied himself on something else."Thanks, bro! I owe you this one!" Desmond uttered patting Adam's shoulder. The latter just nodded. "Thank you for this wonderful morning, Señorita. I had a great time being with you!" he then told me, his whole facial expression and voice implying both sadness and delight."I also had fun, Desmond. Thanks!" I responded joyfully as I gave him a light hug.Adam and Desmond brought me back to the resort. That whole day, I just stayed in my room pondering what Desmond and I had talked about in the lake. My heart was a mess. It was pounding really fast every time I recalled all of his words."Desmond!" I whispered before I hit wonderland.I gasped as I halted in my thoughts. The cab driver sighed in frustration while we were stuck in the traffic. I glanced at the window adjusting my sunglasses while watching the situation outside."Couldn't be better?!" I heard the driver scoff in annoyance. He slammed his palms on the steering wheel and groaned. "Huh! Road rage at its finest!"His sarcastic remark fluttered my ears curious of his fury, I followed his vision with my gaze. There we both witnessed in the other lane an upset woman driving a white SUV and a man dressed in a suit sitting on the driver's seat inside a new model black Tesla convertible car, the woman was screaming at the top of her lungs to the driver who was calmly listening to her."Looks like the insane woman has a motive!" the driver scoffed while shaking his head in annoyance. I just smiled at him while staring at the woman and the man arguing loudly, they were now catching the attention of everyone on the road and some passersby."Oh, boy! The man is ju
"Elsa, tell Iñigo to prepare the car. I'm going to my father's wake!" still shaking in fear, Elsa darted away but also stopped near the door frame where my witch stepmother blocked the way. "I'm sorry, Elsa!" I uttered as I sauntered forward. "I can't eat the meal you cooked for me. I suddenly lost my appetite!" angling my eyebrow at Divina, I sarcastically muttered.Elsa turned around and nodded in silence. Excusing herself from Divina, the latter stepped aside to give her a path. When it's just the two of us, we halted in a death stare. Divina Montenegro, my evil stepmother. She's still the same... a pretentious, two-faced gold digger who ruined my relationship with my father. He met this wicked woman at a banquet when I was 10. The moment I saw my father's eyes beam again, that was the time I knew my life would change."Who told you to touch my stuff, Divina?!" my blood boiled upon seeing her smirking at me. I ambled forward, my fingers slowly curling into tight fists. I swore I co
We mourned my father for three days as per tradition. Some of his political friends and business clients joined us to pay him their last respect and gave him their last goodbyes."Don Miguel is such a huge loss!" I heard the mayor of the city utter to his fellow politicians. I was sitting in front of my stepmother and we both wore black dresses with black veils covering our faces. Divina acted unhappy with her tiny sobs and little tears gaining the pity of our visitors."Doña de la Frontera, I'm so sorry for your loss!" one woman of the same age as her hugged her while patting her back making my stepmother cry even more."Thank you for coming. I miss my husband so much!" Divina uttered and the cries continue. "I don't know how to live without him!"I grimaced at her pretense. Instead of consoling her, I got up and strode to the side of the church. I opened the door and got out, I needed some air to breathe. The atmosphere inside was suffocating me. Most of the mourners were Divina's f
"Señorita, I was about to call you not to attend the board meeting!" George blocked me as I strode to my dad's office. I felt his uneasiness and fear. I glanced around and saw the eyes of our staff staring straight at me. They were either pleased or unhappy to see me, I couldn't tell."Why don't you want me to attend that important meeting, George? Are you scared I might find out something?" I asked and stared at him with a sardonic look. For the first time, I got mad at him.We strode quickly till we reached dad's office. I used to come here when I was young. It wasn't because I wanted to but my dad forced me to watch him run the company. George quietly opened the door and Divina's silhouette appeared in front of us. She was behind a laced curtain and based on her gesture, she wasn't alone."Franco, give me the documents that are needed to be signed later. This company must have a buyer ASAP. I can't wait ~""What did you say? You're not selling this company, Divina. Not in my watch!
My intertwined fingers fidgeted while waiting for everyone in the conference room. I ordered George to arrange an emergency board meeting in the afternoon. After speaking with my dad's former lawyer, I made a decision to tell everyone about the real situation of the company. Much to George's disapproval, he had no choice but to follow my league."Are you sure about this, Amy Leah? You see it's not just Atty. Smith's life who's gonna be in danger here but especially YOU!" I heard a tone of dismay from George who was sitting next to me."Atty. Smith will be safe, George. Don't worry. He will be well taken care of. And for the company, the staff has all the right to know!" I understood his concern but I had no right to give the employees false hope. De La Frontera Group was no longer ours, that's the truth!"They're gonna skin you alive. I'm sure of that!" George sighed deeply. He took his phone from his pocket and called someone. "Iñigo, prepare Amy Leah's car. Make sure it's not tapped
We all halted and stared at the gorgeous woman in business attire. A simple knee-length checkered pencil-cut skirt fit with a checkered coat which length approached her knees. Her blouse was a stretchable black shirt that she tucked inside her skirt. Her long wavy blonde hair draped around her shoulders and at her sexy back. Her aura was in the middle of both sophisticated and tyrannical. Perfect enough to muzzle these barking dogs down.Behind her was a young good looking man who I guess could be her subordinate. Bodyguard perhaps. Speaking of bodyguards, I saw Franco staring straight at me, the corner of his lips curling up forming an irking smirk."Good afternoon, gentlemen!" her voice was elegant, I, myself, couldn't help but gawk at her. "Mrs. Bailey, Mr. Bonifacio, please go back to your seats. We have to finish this discussion with closure!""Hrmm! Excuse me, Miss. This meeting is exclusively for the De La Frontera Group employees. I think you entered the wrong building!" Cain
The moment I set my eyes on her, flashbacks of how those painful but sweet memories of our past lingered in my mind, scratching the wounds, which I thought were healed, deeper. My chest tightened as my saunters became heavy. I planned it all along. These were all part of my five years scheme. These were all part of my revenge. To make her suffer...However, why seeing her again in person made my body tremble like a team of horses galloping inside my chest near my heart. I shut my yearning orbs trying to calm myself down and paint those bitter memories of the past. If that would make me feel stronger in front of her, then I would always scrub my thoughts with those hurtful moments that we shared.Eight years ago...Winter!"Desmond, what's keeping you too long in your room?" my mom asked, a bit crabby.I had been in my room for almost two hours choosing which clothes were I going to wear for a casual working day. Different colors of shirts, shirts with collars, and jackets messily spre
"Hello, señorita Amy Leah!" I shyly waved my hand for a simple hello gaining the attention of the woman on her left, aristocratic look with an angled eyebrow good enough to squeeze me like a bugging bug.Her long slender legs crossed in a dignified manner. Dressed in black sleeves one-piece hugging her curves perfectly. Her hair was tied in a bun with some strands hanging on her ears where dangling diamond earrings almost blinded my sight. The illumination from the Imperial chandelier on the gorgeous paneled ceiling sparked through the crystals striking the brilliance of the jewel...a symbol of her titled Majesty."Samuel, Victor!" Don Miguel greeted us. He stood up with dominance and grace followed by the woman and Amy Leah."Good morning, Señor Miguel, Señora Divina, Señorita Amy Leah!" my elders greeted them with a slight bow and I followed right away."Desmond, how are you feeling, boy? Is your leg okay, now?!"Odd! I was hit by him last October and that was a couple of months ago
After three months! . . It's spring! Flowers were blooming everywhere in the garden. The shades of red, yellow, pink, and white color the beautiful landscape Iñigo and Elsa had created. A tribute for their loyalty and care for me and my parents. We were still at Desmond's villa. I could always go back to our mansion, but the feeling of emptiness was still there. I felt like that big house was no longer the same home where I was born and raised. It was totally a stranger to me. I was watching the morning sunshine from the balcony of our room when a gentle knock disturbed my senses. "Come in!" that could be Elsa. "Señorita, we're ready!" indeed it was her. "Yes, Elsa. I'm also ready. This is it!" I gladly told her as I hugged her tight. Elsa was like a mother to me. She saw me grow up and she was also a witness of our love with Desmond. Speaking of my man, he must be waiting for me now. "Let's go then!" Elsa uttered with a smile. As we sauntered downstairs, we saw I
A soft warm peck on my lips made me moan as I opened my eyes and saw the person carrying me. I was like a baby lying on his lap. He was just staring at me, my man, worries were cleared on those mesmerizing orbs. "Hi?" I asked, a thin smile appeared on my face. "Hi!" he answered. "You scared me to death, you know that?!" then a sweet scolding. I chuckled at his cuteness, but he furrowed his brows at my response. "I'm sorry. How long was I asleep?" I asked not cutting my stares at him. "A couple of hours. Kota already left with Martin and Gwenny is with Adam. Everything is cleaned and fixed, sweetheart. We can go home now!" Desmond answered. I slowly got up as he gently held my back. "What about Donna, Elsa, Alden, and Dante?" I asked again worried something worse happened to them, especially Donna who had blood on the right side of her head when she shot Franco to death. "They're all fine. Donna is at the ward, resting. She's with the rest. Sweetheart, let's go home. You nee
I let out my loudest scream for help when the door banged open, followed by the figure of the man I would admit scared to see. It was Franco! His face displayed the darkest night I had ever seen. His eyes were flaming red to my vision, and his sneer was devouring me little by little. If there was a real face of a monster, it was him. "Don't come any closer, Franco!" my shock was cut in by Iñigo's deep voice. I could see the face of a man prepared to die with him. "Iñigo?!" I whispered with my trembling voice. I held the hem of his shirt as he moved forward, trying to shield me from the monster. "Old man!" even Franco's voice was scary. "You think you can frighten me with that lamp you're holding?" he laughed maniacally. I just noticed now, Iñigo was gripping the lamp he grabbed from the side table. I grasped his shirt tight, wrinkling the fabric, there's no way we could survive this dawn. Till I heard a loud gunshot and saw Iñigo's shoulder bleeding. I screamed, calling his
"You've failed me, Mrs. Amy Leah Zaborowski. You need to be punished!" he gritted his teeth while he was staring deeply at me. I shivered at the tension rising around us."Des, I- I""First, we have to get out of here!""But ~ But them!""Let Dante and the rest take care of the mess you've caused!" another sharp look before he pulled me up and led me to his car parked at the entrance.I glanced over my shoulder and saw Martin's men firing guns against Divina's goons. Screams and banging of furniture everywhere. It took us only an hour to arrive at Martin's villa. The way he maniacally drove his sports car was evidence that I was in complete trouble. He slammed the door after opening it ignoring that I was still inside."Desmond, let me explain!" my voice cracked as I followed him in quick stride. He wasn't just upset, he was mad.He aggressively turned around and yelled in my face. "You planned to deceive me by fucking me! You lied to me! What the heck were you thinking, Amy Leah?""D
Amy Leah POV.Months had passed....Everything was set. My plan to enter the lion's den was final. Over the past few months that I recuperated, I also asked Desmond to help me with some self-defense and how to hold a gun. At first, he was hesitant but I finally managed to get his approval. I told him it was for my own safety. The bodyguards he hired were not enough for me."Sweetheart, are you sure about this? Don't you really need us?" my husband asked after he rolled down beside me. We just had finished our lovemaking and I took control which to his surprise and satisfaction, he had no idea I could do it. Guess those months of training and building my strength paid off."Baby, I'm just gonna talk to Divina. The spy I assigned to the mansion is 100% sure she crept there every night once in three months to visit my dad's study room. There must be something important in that room that she can't get rid of or can't bring to her wherever she's hiding!" I confidently told him."All righ
"Ams, about that case, I can't help you anymore. I've been cut off!""I told you so!" Desmond interrupted making my eyes roll."Desmond, I need to speak with Adam alone, please!" I needed to get to the bottom of this. It was almost ten years and I couldn't wait for closure and justice. Justice for my father's name and George's death."No!" my husband urged."Desmond, please!""Amy Leah, you don't need to keep your talks with him a secret, okay? Remember, my parents were also victims of that fire...and my friend, Valerie!" the word Valerie came out only a whisper as he side-glanced at Adam who secretly took a glimpse of his reaction."Our best friend, Valerie!" Adam corrected."All right, no one wants to help me get closure. Then I guess I need to continue what I had originally planned!" I was losing my patience. I felt like I was left wandering alone in the dark wilderness."What?! No, Amy Leah. You almost got yourself killed!" Desmond uttered in a loud tone."Wait! I don't follow. Wh
I drove my way to where I was raised. The nest where I spent my childhood life. Although they were only strings of stories from my ex-fiance Warren and my best friend Kota, coz I couldn't still recall most of my memories, I had these weird feelings enveloping me upon stopping in front of this huge iron gate. Emptiness, grief, bliss, rage, and love. Most were love... I shook my head and bobbed it up and down as outlines of doodled past clouded my thoughts."Mom! Dad!" I whispered in the air.My eyes were deeply shut. My temples were pounding, and my head began to hurt like hell. Flashes of memories kept raging at the back of my head. Damn! I just wanted to scream and freak out.Till...A knock on my car window cleared my messy thought. I stared at the uniformed man deeply staring at me through the tinted window. He was checking who was inside.I removed my sunglasses and slowly rolled down the screen. Beads of sweat began emerging on my forehead and my breathing was unstable. But what
"Desmond, I thought you were working at home!" I immediately got my composure and strode toward him. I took a swift stare at the woman staring sternly at me. Martin's eyes were also fixed on me. These three were like, they were skinning me alive."Supposed to be but Martin told me you want to speak with him. Aren't you going to Dakota's flat?" Desmond's tone was flat and cold but beyond that I could feel rage."Been there and she told me that!" I shifted my glance at Martin. I needed to make a new lie. "Martin is blocked in their building. Is that true?" I questioned the mafia man.He cleared his throat first and nodded. The lady in the middle was stunned that her eyes would like to pop out."You're blocked? Martin, how could that be? Did that woman order the admin to do that!""FYI, her name is Dakota, missy!" I abruptly meddled glaring at her. She just stared back at me."Señorita, you might not remember me but we're friends. Well in a short while. I'm Guinevere Basile. Gwenny for s
Amy Leah POV.."Desmond, is that you?" the clock ticked 12, it was now midnight and Desmond just got home. Where had he been?"My bad, sweetheart. It's my fault. I invited Martin to have some drinks!" he hoarsely uttered.I could see his silhouette from the mounted lamp on the wall. His legs wobbled when he walked which only meant- he was drunk!I turned on the lights and the whole wide living room lit up. My man's shirt was a mess. His hair which was always combed well was disheveled. I rushed to his side when he was about to fall on the floor. Good thing his palm pressed the edge of the table by the door."Desmond, are you all right?" my worried voice made him lift his head and he was staring at me with unfathomable eyes. "Des!"He cupped my face, his thumb gently touching my lips. "I'm sorry for everything I've done to you in the past!" he uttered softly, I could feel the pain in his heart but I couldn't understand what he was saying."Des, let's go to bed, sweetheart!" I told hi
