Chapter 87

Jaselyn's POV

Have you ever been so overcome with emotion that you lose sight of your surroundings and everything else?

That's what happened after I witnessed Ziarre's death. I was so crushed I couldn't even articulate it. I hadn't known her for very long but still, she was like the sister I never had so her death hit me so hard. Harder than I could have ever prepared for.

So when Rion's heavy footsteps departed, I wasn't in the state of mind to wonder what it would result in.

Zane just held me like I needed, letting me cry as much as I wanted until I ran out of tears and could just sniff, breathing heavily.

The pain in my heart hadn't lessened but somehow, I felt like I could actually think now, that I could function just a bit.

I pulled away from Zane and wiped my tears. He looked perturbed and his eyes held a deep sadness. He's known Ziarre far longer than me and though they've never seemed particularly close, I know that he holds great respect for her.
