It was a gut-wrenching feeling, like my soul was being yanked out of my body. Her fear hit me like a tidal wave, crashing over me, filling me with a dread so intense it left me breathless. 

Before Erik could even speak, I was already running for the car, desperate to reach her. My heart was pounding in my chest, my mind racing with a thousand thoughts, all centered on getting to her, protecting her. But then, just as suddenly, it stopped.
