Why do I feel this way?

“What happened?” Aithan's father asked, concern flickering in his features as he looked at his son. My father didn't seem to care about me as he glanced around, probably calculating how to find whoever did that because it seemed like a threat to both families. How else would they attempt a shooting on a day like this?

Aithan pushed me away as he got to his feet, his eyes scanning the perimeters, with his brows furrowed. “Someone tried to shoot me,” he whispered, looking down at me with contempt. You would have thought he would look grateful since I saved his arse.

Getting to my feet, I cleaned my arse as my father walked over to me, his eyes asking what was going on. “I will have to check it out,” I said, walking towards the door. Oddly enough, I wasn't furious at Aithan for kicking me on my balls or for not showing his appreciation. I was mad at the person who tried to take his life.

Odd, right?

This was something I'd been battling with for months now. Most times, I always paused to think, to remind myself we were enemies. Yet, the thoughts of my enemy, on his feet, taking my cock into his lips, always leave me so hard, it takes wanking my meat to ease the tension.

“I'm going with you,” Aithan said, coming over to my side. “They came at me, not you.” Without waiting for me to say a word, he pushed past me and slipped into the house.

Sending a nod to my father, I ran after him, keeping pace with him even though I knew I could run faster. Not trying to brag though, it was in our DNA. I never asked him to be a Beta, though it would have been good if he was an Omega.

Shit. What the hell was I even thinking about? Groaning, I looked down at my little brother, who was trying to stir at the thoughts of Aithan being an Omega. I bet he would look cuter with feminine features.

We left the house and headed straight to the back gate. Aithan was efficient. He didn't need to touch the fence to jump over it, leaving me watching him with awe. A foot on the wall was all he needed for a push. I felt an intense stirring once more and had to adjust my cock. Whatever it was that organ was doing, it seemed as if it wanted to get me in trouble.

Jumping the fence after him. I tried to keep up with his pace. Out here, I kept my ears pricked, listening.

Aithan turned to look at me occasionally, but I knew it was just to make sure I was behind him. Stealthy, we both walked down the forest, the trees casting shadows on us as we walked. A few birds chirped in the trees as we passed, their noises making the forest less eerie.

Aithan suddenly stopped, sniffing the air as a dark frown came over him. He turned, his angle facing their house, and that was when I noticed why he halted. This was the place the person stood when they shot the gun. From the position, I could see our fathers leaning on the rail as they looked around.

“That fucking bastard!” Aithan gritted out, looking around as if he would find anything to help him.

Leaving him behind after making certain there was no one in close range. It wasn't like I cared about him. I just wanted to avoid any misunderstanding. Having him die while in the forest with me would make me guilty of a crime I didn't commit.

I touched a broken branch, frowning as I leaned in to sniff. Turning back, to be certain Aithan wasn't going anywhere, I took off. With the scent fresh in my nose, it wasn't difficult to catch the trail of the man. Soon, I was on his tail. I sprinted through the dense forest, branches scratching at my face, but I ignored it, fuelled by a desire to catch the damned bastard.

My feet pounded against the damp earth, leaves crunching beneath me. The man's panicked breaths echoed through the trees, guiding me closer. I bet he didn't count on me getting on him. Funny how he thought he would escape after pulling that off.

Suddenly, he stumbled, and I seized the opportunity. I tackled him to the forest floor. The action caused his gun to slip from his grasp.

"Fuck!" He cried out, trying to push me off.

We wrestled amidst the underbrush, his terrified eyes locked on mine as I pinned him down, hands wrapping around his throat.

“You shouldn't have taken that shot,” I snarled, adrenaline fuelling my rage. “You fucking shouldn't have targeted him!”

Okay, that was where my anger stemmed from; him targeting Aithan. I wouldn't have been this mad if he came at me.

His face turned purple, veins bulging, and I felt his struggle weaken, but I held tight, baring my teeth at him. I didn't even want to know who sent him. At the moment, all I wanted to see was him sprawled on the fucking floor with blood gushing from his wound.

With a swift motion, I slammed his head against a nearby tree trunk. Once. Twice. The sound of cracking skulls and crunching bone did nothing to ease the anger fuelling deep within me. As I hit his head, I made certain not to let the blood touch me.

His body went limp, eyes frozen in terror as I released my grip. Almost like it could tell my mood, the forest around me fell silent, except for the distant cry of a bird. I stood, towering over the lifeless body as an idea came to mind. I looked around, checking for a good place to hide the body, only for a call to interrupt me.

“Alexander?!” Aithan yelled.

I turned at the sound of the call, my eyes turned to the man on the ground. Without a moment to think of the plans I had, I left the man there, and hastened towards the sound of the voice, panting.

The minute I got to his side, Aithan lifted a brow at me. “Where the hell have you been? Why did you leave without fucking telling me?”

“I… I thought I caught his trail, but it turned out I was wrong. It was just a wild animal,” I explained, wondering why I was even doing this, but there was no turning back. Not when I had already thought of a plan.

“Fuck!” He tugged hard on his beautiful black hair as his blue eyes darkened in anger.

“Why don't we work together?” I suggested, rolling the dice and hoping to get a favourable number.
