James

I woke up in a good mood and I couldn’t wait to get to the office and hopefully the warrant of arrest will be on my desk. I wanted to do this as quickly as possible and hopefully close the case by the afternoon. It will give me enough time to drop by Parker & Associates and show her my gratitude and work on my Pega charm. I couldn’t wait to see her again. I smiled.

“Jesus put a shirt on. You own a closet full of them.” Harper walked into the kitchen with a yawn.

“Good morning to you too. Grumpy much today?”

“You are in a good mood I see. What the hell did you do?” She asked, grabbing a mug to pour herself the already brewing coffee.

“Can’t I be nice without you being suspicious? What am I to you, some bad guy?” I looked at her rolling my eyes.

“God this tastes awful,” she spoke spitting back the coffee in her mug, “No you are my very good brother,” she responded and I smiled, “but you never cook so it’s either you finally decided to get rid of me or you want something,” she

Kioni I could smell the scent of disinfectant I had familiarized myself with over the months I had been hospitalized after the accident. The stench waffled in my nostrils as I opened my eyes feeling the worst of headaches. I blinked around the white walls steering my head with a wince. “She’s awake,” I heard my mother speak. “Thank God,” I heard my father speak after her as he jumped to be next to me. “What happened?” I asked, blinking again. “My sweet child,” my mother moved closer brushing her warm hands on my cheek, “Something happened last night, and you were rushed here.” “Let’s not talk about this right now, dear,” my father looked at me with a smile before looking at mother, “She has been through a lot and if it wasn’t for Nick,” he shook his head fighting words. “Who the hell is Nick?” I asked, looking at them. “Oh, my sweet baby, you know Nick, right?” she forced a smile before they shared a look. “What is happening, mom?” I looked at her first, “Daddy?” I looked at h

James I had just walked into the hospital after lying to the nurse that I was doing an investigation so I could see Miss Parker before anyone else and Nick had beat me to it. The lovely receptionist Anna was so kind as to tell me she was at the hospital and extra shared that she was very much single which brought a triumphant smile to my face. I quickly wiped the smile off as worry took over and I asked her to give me the details of where she was before I rushed here. I didn’t get a chance to ask what had happened and looking at her now I was confused. She looked fine when I walked in and the only thing I saw was panic. “Miss Parker, are you alright? Do you need a doctor?” I asked. “No, no,” she shook her head, “I need you to tell this man that I don’t know him. I already told my parents that I don’t remember him, and he is making me uncomfortable.” “WHAT?!” Nick spat out. He looked furious but quickly took a deep breath. Something about him was making the bells in my head ring.

Kioni It was happening again. I remember this moment so well. Back when I was sixteen, I woke up from a coma after six weeks and some people came to see me and it made me defensive. I would forget the faces of some detectives when they questioned or made me uncomfortable. I forgot some of their faces because I used to have blackouts from pushing myself too hard to remember. I don’t know what had happened, but I couldn’t remember Nick. I tried to make myself remember but my head hurt, and my vision was beginning to become foggy. I was glad when I was discharged and told to take a few days to rest. I wanted to go back to my apartment and my parents wouldn’t have it. “Make sure you get some sleep, honey.” “Yes, mom, you don’t have to worry. You will be across the hall if anything happens.” “How about we let her have her rest,” my father walked to kiss my forehead before brushing my soothing me. “Thanks dad. I already feel better,” I spoke with my eyes closed. “Make sure you get som

  • Suppressed Memories    Chapter 13

James I had the arrest warrants ready yesterday but hadn’t arrested them due to the mother and daughter in question being out of town. There are plenty of stores in the city for them to go on a wild shopping spree. I would know because I have a shopping driven sister who goes to Springs Mall every week. Too bad their out of town shopping for the social event happening at the Springs City Hall tonight will end with them in cuffs. I did leave a message to be notified of their arrival, but I was frankly told they would be too busy with the event to bother with me. I scoffed but they would soon regret acting richly entitled when I slap them with the warrant while reading them their rights. I know the chief is not going to be pleased with me after tonight, but I couldn’t resist showing up in front of all those rich snobs and take one of their own. I’m not going to lie because I’m going

Kioni I was staring but at James, he was here and I caught a glimpse of him and he looked like he was making his way toward me. My heart skipped making me look away for a second before looking at him and he was smiling at me. He winked at me and waved over as if calling over someone a little disappointed he was not waving me over. I watched where he was looking and two police officers in uniforms walked to where he was. I kept looking at him before he nodded at them saying something before they followed him. He pulled out a piece of paper from his back pocket before stopping in front of a girl wearing a pink off-shoulder princess dress. I didn’t hear what he said because there were gasps around as people looked. James nodded at the lady officer who cuffed the girl before she screamed and shook. “DADDY,” she shrieked.

Kioni “What?” James asked, giving me an easy smile. “Oh, nothing,” I said, shaking my head. I decided to bite my slice of pizza to avoid his sudden question. I was surprised by my unexpected response when he suggested we go grab a pizza. I had said yes before my head could process anything and we ended sitting across from each other at the Pizza Hut enjoying each other’s company. James felt easy to talk to and I was glad I had agreed because he also made me feel safe. “Okay maybe I do have a question,” I say looking at him. “Go ahead,” he looked back at me and my heart started drumming. “Aren’t you supposed to be at work considering?” I paused. “The

James “Hey Harp, are you ready?” I shouted. “I said five minutes, two minutes ago,” she shouted back. “Well, hurry. I need to be early. Romans in not very pleased with me after last night and being late is not an option today,” “The more reason for me to get my own car,” she shouted, running down the stairs. "The problem would be solved." “Come on, you can wear your shoes in the car.” “Wait, hold up,” she stopped. “Why?” I groaned, looking at her. "What did you forget now?" “Is that a new shirt?” she grinned at me. “No, it’s been in my cupboard for years,” I

Kioni James: That’s not what I meant. I waited for him to respond. I was embarrassed enough when I suggested a rain check of whatever happened last night. I’m not sure if it was a date but it felt like one and I enjoyed spending time with him. I felt bad that I responded to his morning message so late in the afternoon, but I really needed time to process it. His sister has asked a lot of questions which I don’t blame her for, but I couldn't answer because I don’t know the answers to them myself. Are you sure your name is just K as in one letter K? What is the reason you can’t share? Does your ID only show the letter K? She meant well but I was grateful James ma

KioniTrue happiness is what I felt. We were sitting having breakfast before the guys left the table, one after the other. It was all so weird. I looked around the table and everyone seemed to be oblivious. I wanted to go check what was happening outside, but the girls stopped me and began having a conversation about what we had for our dinner last night.“I should get the recipe and make this for Wayne.”“I’m not a skilled cook, but I loved the sauce.” Dani added.“That meat was so tender.” Gaby smiled.“Mhh, it was melting in my mouth.” Faith chided.“Faith ate for two.” Harper laughed&ldq

HarperA few months later,I had made some progress and was ready for this holiday. Tomorrow is going to be a big day. I looked at my suitcases and gleefully smiled.“Harper!”“Coming,” I shouted. I ran down the stairs. “What?” I scoffed.Sam has been my bodyguard. This was not by choice. It was annoying. I preferred the other guard, though I don’t remember his name. He never talked much. Unlike Sam, who takes every chance to speak.“You have a visitor,” he said. “Make it quick. We have to leave soon. I’m not getting in trouble because of you.”“

Her strength was almost impossible to rear.“Thank you.” James said with a sigh.“Don’t mention it.”“It’s over.”“Yeah, it is,” I said, looking at the car where Nick was.“I should go with her to the hospital.”“I’m right behind you.” I nodded.James and my sister left with Harper in the same ambulance. SebastianLesson learnt. Nick was just as canny as his father. He kept surprising me. He had an army. Over twenty men, I'm sure. He knew we were coming. He was prepared. I didn’t do enough to catch him. I should have followed the money theory harder. If I was aware of how vigorous he was, things would have been different. We wouldn’t be in this situation. Nick was worse than his father.“You two stay here. Help is almost here. I have to get in there.”“Don’t get killed,” Adam said.“Be careful,” Nigel said.I gave them both a nod and moved. I was a little rusty, but I prayed I could manage. I ran inside, dodging all the bullets. Before I got in, I saw him ducking his head. Nigel had my back.

NickHiring people to take Kioni to the mansion was a plan in the works for a long time. All the months of planning and watching from afar were necessary. I was going to take Kioni either way. She belonged to me. They all underestimated me. Underestimating the love I felt for her. She was mine, and I was going to make it crystal clear.Everything was set. I was prepared for a fight. One of two things was going to happen. Kioni was going to come to me or I was going to go take her. No army of guards was going to stop me because I had an army of my own. An army I spent a lot of money on and they were the best.Charles taught me one thing that stuck with me. Being resourceful and passionate enough to grasp the moment. My moment was now staring at me. They really made it easy for me. We were going to get married. She looked stunning in that

HarperThey always sideline me. As much as they were, I was involved in this as well. I would be devastated if something happened to Kioni or Gaby. I was actually devastated. That’s why when they were leaving, I followed them.I jumped into Morgan’s car with the bodyguard. He didn’t even know his boss had left with the others when I told him to drive. We were not really seeing eye to eye because the drive started off in an argument.“You know you are going to get me in trouble,” he eyed me with the corner of his eye.“I don’t care. Just drive.” I yelled.“I don’t even know where they went.” he yelled back.“They must have driven pa

Wake up.”“You are awake,” Nick emerged from behind me. “How do I look?”“What are you doing?” I asked him, “What did you do to her?”“Come on, Kiki,” he laughed, “This is what we always wanted.”“I don't want this.” I creased my face in disgust. “I know everything you did to me.”“I did nothing you didn’t want.” he walked a

MorganMy phone was ringing, but it was not on the nightstand. It was ringing somewhere on the floor close to the door; I think. My head was pounding like crazy. Someone shaking me made me open my eyes. I blinked a couple of times, hoping the room would stop spinning.I stumbled off the bed and looked around. There were two women in my bed and one on the floor. I did not know what was going on. The ringing was so loud. All I wanted was to go back to bed. Sleep off the dizzy.“Make it stop.” the woman on the floor stirred.I moved to find my phone. I had no idea what the hell was happening. When I got my phone, I almost threw it on the floor. I wanted to hurl. I scrunched and answered the call.

SebastianThe shouting inside was hurting my ears even as I stood outside smoking. I don’t even know how they all ended up shouting like that. They have all drifted, of course, from the actual issue.Morgan’s idea made sense. Nick would do anything to get to Kioni. All this time we had focussed on that factor. We had her protected at all times that it was difficult for him to try something. That’s why he easily spotted the weaker spot.Harper.How many weak spots could he see? I drew a big puff and stared at nothing. I wish I could drown all the noise. Prison was usually peaceful at this time of the night. Their annoying fighting was actually making me miss the serenity.“I thought you had gone home,” I to
