I couldn't believe what just happened. Emily Watson likes me? As in, Emily, the girl that didn't want anything to do with me before, actually likes me? Wow.
I needed someone to tell that to, because keeping stuff like that to myself was really hard for me.
I could confide in Brian. So I would tell him.
I returned to the classroom and tried to study Emily's behavior, but as usual, she didn't even acknowledge my presence. Did she really tell Rose to tell me that she liked me?
Then I started to have doubts.
During lunch, I approached Brian sitting with his Science Nerds and told him I wanted to see him. He excused himself and we went to a separate table to talk.
I told him everything.
"Wow. Emily? I mean, are you really sure of this?" He asked, scratching his head.
"Yeah I am. I can't possibly be lying about this, can I?" I asked him.
"Okay, but if I said I was totally surprised, I'd be lying." He confesses.
"What do you mean?" I asked in total confusion.
"I mean, I've noticed the way she occasionally stares at you, smiling... I don't really know."
"Well, I didn't notice that." I said, almost blushing.
"Wait a minute. What about Adam? You said he's dating Emily, and that Emily was rude to you when you approached her. I hope this isn't a setup by Rose."
"I... Wow, somehow I didn't think of that. I guess I was too exited."
"You gotta confront Rose about this." He said, and I agreed.
"Okay. I will." I told him. I decided to see Rose after the last period.
The day was annoyingly slow. But at last, last period came and went.
I rushed out of the classroom to find Rose entering the combination of her locker, ready to retire for the day.
"Hey Rose." I said as she looked at me, obviously surprised to see me.
"Oh, hi Danny." She said.
Only my close friends called me Danny. And I wasn't even friends with this girl.
"Hi, I just wanted to ask a few questions about, you-know-who." I whispered the last part.
"Aww, you're shy to mention her name. That is like, so cute." She cooed.
"Oh, yeah - "
"Oh my gosh, she's like, walking towards here like, right now." Rose exclaimed and suddenly, Emily appeared.
She looked exhausted, weak and only looked towards me when I said, "Hi."
"Oh hi Daniel." She said, smiling a little. She smiled at me. She smiled at me?! Well, maybe she does like me after all.
She shoved Rose to the side and they talked for a few minutes, facing me when they were done.
I guessed, by the reaction on her face that she would have said something really sweet when the evil Adam arrived.
"Hey beauties." He said, ignoring me.
"Hi" Rose said.
"Adam..." Emily said, looking at the ground.
I didn't see anything interesting in the ground.
"What's going on here?" Adam asked, slipping an arm across Emily's waist.
Why was he always wanting me to know Emily was his property?
"I was...just leaving." Emily said.
"So let's go then." Adam replied, taking her hand as they walked away.
Emily turned and followed Adam outside the door, till I could see her no more.
"Okay, that was weird. So like, what's up?" Rose said.
"Can we go talk in the library? Its much more quiet in there." I suggested.
"Alright." She agreed.
On getting there, I started -
"You know, all of this is just weird."
"What do you mean?" She asked, surprisingly serious.
"I mean, I know Emily's dating Adam. It's so damn obvious. And it's so weird that she likes me, if she really did, why not break up with Adam? Then it would make more sense. And the last time I and Emily talked was when I tried to be friends with her, but she just shut me up and never talked to me again. And now you're telling me she likes me? Sorry but I don't believe you. I was really happy at first but after thinking it through, I think you've got more explanation to do." I blurted.
Rose sighed, which I guess is what she did when confused or frustrated. "I think Emily's the one that's got more explanation to do."
And then she left.
What is up with these sisters? I wondered as I walked out of the library, into the school bus, ready for home.
Getting home from school was an hectic one. Apart from the humps and bumps on the roads, the noise of the other students boarding the bus was really uninspiring.
But still, I couldn't get Emily out of my head. My feelings for her was getting real intense. But I just didn't get it, why did she always make it seem like she was enslaved to Adam? She's obviously not happy with him.
"Gosh!" I wondered aloud, shaking my head.
"What's wrong Danny?" Judy asked, beside me.
I had totally forgotten there was someone like Judy around. But I knew Judy well, I couldn't tell her because she'd just laugh and tell me I was jealous of Adam.
"Nothing. I'm fine." I said.
"Yeah of course. What else would you say? You'd better tell me cause if you don't, you know what comes next." She threatened.
She was going to call me George. I hated the name because I was named George after my father. And I didn't like him. I did not like my father.
"It's not cause of some girl, is it?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
She really knew me. But I still couldn't tell her. I knew Judy too well.
"No, I'm just having a slight headache. Nothing to worry about." I lied.
"Better. You know what I would have done if you didn't tell me."
I shook my head in frustration. She laughed.

The next day, a Saturday, came pretty quick. It was a bright, sunny day. I woke up from a deep sleep to do my house chores and freshen up. When I checked the time, I realised I had woken up later than usual, so I decided to do the house chores first.
Flinging the duvet from my weak-from-sleep body, I lifted myself out of bed and stood upright. I stretched for some minutes to loosen up my muscles, and walked out of the room.
I walked on to the living room and met Judy eating breakfast, already dressed up.
Normally I would have met my Mom and Dad there, watching television but they weren't there. Only Judy was, munching on some innocent chunk of bread.
"Hey Sleepy head." Judy teased and I made a face at her.
"Where are Mom and Dad?" I asked, walking up to her.
Judy stood up, sighed and touched my shoulder. "Bro, life is short you know, and this would have happened anyway so-"
"Just tell me where they are!" I blurted, already impatient. Why was Judy talking like this?
"They're gone." Judy said, matter-of-fact ly.
"Uh?" I panicked, feeling uneasy.
"Haha haha, man you're so easy to fool!" She said, laughing hysterically like someone possessed.
I shook my head.
"You're such a pest. But seriously where did they go?" I asked again.
"They both went to Mom's friend's baby shower, and Mom said not to wake you cause she wanted you to have enough rest. You such a baby." She said with a chuckle.
"Whatever. So why are you all dressed up?"
"Well, I might as well take advantage of the fact that Mom and Dad aren't home, so I'm going to a friend's birthday party."
"Male or female?" I asked, arching an eyebrow.
"And how does that concern you? Busybody." She jeered. Male it is then.
"Oh well, let me clean this place up." I sighed.
Five minutes later, I was done and Judy was all set to go to her party. "Make sure the house is spotless before I come." She said.
"Yeah of course, because you pay me to do it, right?" I said sarcastically.
"Oh whatever. Just don't miss your dear sister too much. Bye."
And she was gone.
"Like I need you here." I mumbled, locking the door after her. Then I sat, watching television for some time. And then I got bored of sitting so I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and took my bath.
I returned to the living room and was about grabbing some popcorn to watch a movie when I heard the doorbell ring.
It must be Judy. What did she forget now?
I walked up to the door, unlocked it and opened it.
"Judy what- " I stopped, speechless with what...no, make that, who I saw at the door.
My blood suddenly ran cold.
It was Emily.
I stared in shock at the figure standing right in front of me.Emily was wearing an elegant woolen dress, red, short sleeved and tight across the hips. She had just little make-up on and made her hair in braids.Never have I seen anyone more beautiful."Hi." She said. "Uh can I come in?" She asked, pushing her face closer."Oh y-yeah, sure, c-come in." I said, opening the door wider as she entered."But wh- I mean how did you find here? And why are you here?" I asked, silently cursing myself for stuttering."Uhm, I had Brian tell me where you live, so..." She trailed off."Oh." I said. I must have given Brian my address, but I couldn't focus on remembering that with Emily standing next to me.And then it was awkwardly silent."You- you can sit." I said, pointing towards the sofa. What was she doing here?
Immediately I saw the car, I knew that whosoever was in there hadn't seen me yet. So that was my chance to bolt away from where I was standing. And quick.Emily was staring at me with a puzzled look on her face. I grabbed her hand and as I pulled her back into the house, I told her what had just happened.I quickly rushed her into my room looking around for where she could hide for now, but she was way ahead of me.She climbed right into my closet, signalling me to lock it up. By now, the person in the car had entered the house, shutting the door.Shit. My dad must not find her here.I had no time. I wasn't really comfortable with the idea at first, but realising what could happen if my dad found her, I quickly locked up the closet and put the key in my pocket."Daniel!" Someone called."Yes, who is it?" I asked, calming myself down I walked towa
Mom and Dad came later in the night, and I went to bed shortly after dinner, and dozed off almost immediately.★★★"Hello Daniel." Emily said."Hi Emily." I repliedWe were in Emily's room, sitting on her bed."So, so you care for a drink?" She asked."Oh yeah, sure." I said. She went off to the kitchen and came back with a transparent glass cup and a bottle of Hennessy. She sat on the bed and began pouring the liquid into the glass cup."Uhm, Emily I don't drink alcohol." I said, hoping she'd just take those away and come back with some fruit juice."That's nonsense, come on its not that bad. I'll pour just a little.""Okay, just a little." I said, with my eyes almost popping out of their sockets when I saw the amount she poured."Here you go." She offers me the cup."Its too much Emily, I can't take all of this at a go.""Take it if you really love me or leave my life!""Oh-
"What the hell are you doing with this son of a bitch?!" Adam yelled at Emily.I got up, and so did Emily."Uh, Adam, its not what you think." I said, trying to calm his hot ass down."Shut the fuck up you idiot!" He shouted."We were just studying." Emily explained. But Adam was buying none of it because he replied her with a hot slap to the face. He took her arm and dragged her out of the library, only stopping at the door to look back at me."You, if I ever see your fucking self with her again, trust me your body will never remain the same." He threatened, walking out with Emily.Where the hell was the librarian all this while? My memory flashed back to the hard slap Emily received from Adam. And I couldn't do anything about it. I felt so small and powerless. But I knew I had to do something about Adam before it got too late.I saw that Emily had left her geology notebook, and wondered how I would get it back to her because I
I woke up the next morning after hearing a loud piercing scream. What was happening? I immediately flung myself out of bed and ran to my parents' room, but no one was there. A terrible feeling grew inside my guts when I realised the scream had to do with Judy.I ran to Judy's room where I met my mom crying terribly and my dad, with both hands on his head. What I saw next made my heart skip two beats.Judy was lying motionless in her bed, entirely soaked with blood. Her blood. My eyes caught some pills on her bedside table, all empty. Then I realised what Judy had done.I involuntarily fell to my knees."Judy no! You shouldn't have done this to yourself! You shouldn't have. We were all going to take care of you and the baby. And now you've done this..." I trailed off. I didn't realise when tears started rolling down my cheeks like rocks down a hill.My mom just kept on wailing.
"Hey! It's you, Daniel." Chloe said."Hi Chloe, uhm..."Her mom was staring at us, making me a lot uncomfortable."Mom, a little privacy, please?""Oh, right." Her mom said, leaving the room. Chloe sat next to me and urged me to go on."Uh, okay. Chloe, I came here to apologize for- ""I forgive you." She interrupted with a sweet smile."What? Seriously?" I asked in disbelief."Of course. How can I ever say no to you, handsome."Okay, so was she flirting with me now? And did she just call me handsome?"Uh, alright. Thanks a lot.""Yeah, its nothing." She smiled sweetly again.Okay, so silence now. What do I say? What do I do? Man, I hate awkward silence. "Uh, I'm really missing Judy nowadays, you know." I said."Aw." She cooed, placing her hand on top of mine, sendi
"Jeez, Daniel. You didn't have to yell at me." Emily complained."Emily, you... I... Judy's dead." I said, without really meaning to."What?! Oh my God! How? When?" She gasped."I'd rather not talk about it, Emily.""No, please. I really want to know."Despite how much I tried not to, I told her, deleting every aspect that had to do with Adam."Oh. My. Goodness. That's why you left your backpack at school the other day and was absent the whole week. I was so worried about you, Daniel." She said, placing her hands on my shoulders.I could see that she felt sorry for me, but I was far from ready for what was about to happen. She was intending to kiss me, and that was the last thing I wanted, but I stayed still, unable to move any part of my body because a part of me wanted that kiss, but the other part wanted my first kiss to be with someone else, per
I was obviously very annoyed, but also sad at the same time. Either way, I knew I'd done the right thing, even though it didn't go quite as expected. As hard as I tried not to, I still cried because I just couldn't help it.I broke Emily's heart, even though I didn't mean to. She just wouldn't understand that we weren't just meant to be.Well at least Adam would be happy now.I tried forcing myself to sleep but I just couldn't. I couldn't stop myself from thinking about Emily. She'd gone through a lot in her life and I wasn't even helping matters. I knew I loved her, so why did I say I didn't? What was wrong with me?I laid on the couch, thinking for what seemed like ages to me, before the door opened and my parents walked in."Hi mom. Hi dad." I said, trying not to show any emotion."Hey son." My dad said gloomily."Hi Daniel." My mom said in the s
Daniel's POV.I gripped my right leg as unimaginable pain shot up my leg, causing me to yell in pain. I glanced down at my shot leg. My trousers were now wet with thick blood, dripping from the bullet wound. Everywhere was wet with blood. I could hardly focus on anything as a new surge of pain crept up my leg. I looked around. Everywhere was dark and creepy. No one was going to save me. I was hopeless. I was just going to die here. I could feel my sight getting all blurry. There was nothing I could do without yelling from the pain in my leg, I wanted to crawl up to the car and manage to drive to any nearby hospital but the idea soon dissolved in my head as I felt myself losing focus. I felt suddenly tired and yearned to lie my head on the ground as one yearned for water when thirsty. I didn't want to die. I couldn't die now, I just couldn't. But I was losing so much blood. I glanced down at my leg, blinking away the tears that had accumulated at my eyelids to se
Adam's lips trembled as the bat hit the ground after falling from his hand. His expression softened for a bit while he looked at me, but when he looked at Daniel, his expression became as hard as stone."I am going to kill you," Adam said to Daniel. I swallowed, unable to comprehend the events unfolding right in front of me."Adam..." I started, but I couldn't finish it. I couldn't say a word when Adam turned to look at me."You..." He pointed at me, taking one step towards me. I took one step back. He suddenly sighed as he stared at me, and brought his hand down. "How do you betray me like this?" His voice cracked. For the first time since I'd known Adam, I heard his voice crack. He sniffed as he continued. "You left our house...you left your home when I was I trouble. You ran away.""Adam, I didn't - ""No, don't interrupt me," Adam said in a cool voice. This was all too
After about thirty minutes of driving in absolute silence, we finally got to the mall, and, fortunately, we still had another thirty minutes to spare at the mall before they closed the place. As we got out of the car, I made sure to pick all my belongings, especially my phone, I couldn't afford to forget it the second time. Daniel looked at me and took his hand out of his pocket, sliding it in mine as we walked into the mall.Something in my heart fluttered. I was holding hands with Daniel."Don't hold my hand," I said as I tried to remove my fingers from his hand but he gripped my hand tighter."No," he simply said as we walked deeper into the building, nearing the escalator."Leave me," I protested, wiggling my fingers from his grasp. He sighed and finally let me go. I felt a little bad for myself, and him because as much as I wanted to hold hands with him, it just wasn't proper. I was pregnant and
"Come on, Daniel, hurry up," I urged, watching Daniel put on his right shoe, tying the laces as he struggled to button his sleeves at the same time.It was a month later, after I'd settled down in my new home and forgotten all about my past life. . .yeah, I wish I could. I never did. We were in Daniel's house the fateful evening, after Daniel had offered to take me on a shopping spree a few hours ago. I got all dressed up and prettied up only to come find Daniel sleeping in his house. When I woke him up, he'd confessed and told me that it was just a prank, and me, well, being me, forced him and made him agree to taking me on the spree. For two weeks, Daniel had been trying to teach me how to drive. He said it's simple and easy if you concentrate but I found it rather tough. I still hadn't gotten the hang of it yet.Daniel introduced me to a friend of his who worked at an oil and gas company, who said he liked
"For three? Wait, you want to- ""Yes, I want to eat some bacon, how hard is that to understand?!" She shot at me, earning herself a frown-y glare."O...kay, no need for the yelling," Daniel turned around and waved the spoon in his hand in the space between Ashley and I, "and the glaring." He said, looking at me. I shook my head, and waved Ashley off. She went to Daniel and put her arms around him, pressing her chest on his back. She could touch him for all I cared, but yelling at me was not part of the options she had to choose from the list of things that she could and couldn't do, in my own house."Uh, I'm cooking Ashley, get off me." Daniel said, trying to wiggle her off his back but she still held on tight. I stood there and just watched."Why? You smell so nice." She cooed. It made me want to puke, how she talked."Ugh, seriously I need you to get off me, I'm going to
"Hold on, let me get this," Daniel said, holding up one finger as I nodded to him. He brought his phone out of his shirt pocket and I moved towards the kitchen cabinet. I retrieved some frying pans and finally settled on a medium sized one to use to fry eggs. I was suddenly in the mood for Daniel's bacon and eggs and I wanted him to teach me how he made such a delicious delicacy."Good afternoon to you too, Ashley." I heard him say behind me. It was that Ashley girl again. Ugh, she had really perfect timing."Why are you asking that?" Daniel asked, walking slowly, to and fro the kitchen. I brought out some eggs from the bags Daniel had helped me carry inside and started to crack them."I know I've never had a problem with you asking where I am but...I don't know, I'm quite busy now, can we talk later?" He asked. I removed some eggshells from the bowl I cracked the eggs into and headed to the gas cooker to light it up.
"Wait, popcorn? What do you need that for?" I asked, amused at his request."No, not me. You. You'll need the popcorn." He answered."Me? Why? Its not like we're about to watch a movie or some- wait, it's because of what you're about to tell me, right?" I asked him."Yep." He said, popping the P."O...Kay well I don't have popcorn. Will you just tell me already?" I asked, curiosity already eating me up. Why did I even need popcorn to listen to his story? Daniel is just too funny sometimes."You sure you don't want popcorn? It really adds to the - ""Come on, I don't. Tell me now." I demanded."Okay," he cleared his throat and left his sofa, joining me on mine. He faced me and began saying his story, "so I, myself moved here around five years ago. Then this house hadn't even been constructed yet, only my house over there,
"Hey, what the…!" Daniel shouted as we both bent forward by the impulse of the car. I immediately slammed my feet on the brakes again, bringing the car to an abrupt stop right in the middle of the road."Uh…I think I'll better take the wheel." Daniel slowly said and opened the door, he got greeted with hundreds of loud honks as I quickly opened the door to walk out but quickly closed it again because of the oncoming vehicle. When it passed, I reopened the door and hopped out, quickly walking to the other side of the car as Daniel hopped into the drivers seat. I entered the passengers seat and closed the door as Daniel pressed his feet on the accelerator, making the car move forward with a nice, slow speed."Uhm, unless I want to die, remind me never to let you drive again." Daniel joked but I didn't laugh."Deal." I said. This was all a bad idea in the first place even. Well, at least I got one good lesson
I turned to look at Daniel in utter surprise. He chuckled as the car slowed to a halt. Was he really going to teach me to drive right now?Right on the highway?!Daniel unbuckled his seatbelt but left the engine on. "What the heck are you doing?!" I yelled. Was he okay? Had he drunk anything today?"Getting down so we can switch seats." He simply replied, with his cool, sexy voice as if everything was okay.Everything was not okay!"You can't let me..." He was already out of the vehicle, slamming the door shut. In a moment, he appeared at my side of the car and opened the door. Was he actually serious? He was actually going through with this? Was he?"Come on, come out." He said, opening the door wider but I refused to get off the car. I was not ready to die now."Daniel, what are you doing?!" I yelled again, as some cars sped by us noisi
