Chapter 13

Jake's POV

“Why weren't you around for the imitation ceremony earlier?” John asked, as he walked into my room.

“What has my presence or absence got to do with the ceremony? And besides, I was trying out some of the new skills I had learnt from Seth.” I grimaced.

I expected John to know better that I don't fancy such occasions, especially where the lords would be gathering. It kept reminding me of my misfortune, and how I was deprived of my rightful place as Alpha of the pack.

“Every other member of the pack was present, but you, my own brother, you weren't there.” He reached out for my dagger sheath which was on top of the drawer and tossed it at me, and I gave it a good catch.

“Reyna was cut today but she didn't heal,” his voice became softer.

I furrowed a brow, and then pulled the dagger from its sheath.

“I thought you said she healed the other day you stabbed her.”

“Yes she did,” I ran my fingers on the sharp edge of the dagger, reminding me of how blood thirsty I could be.

There was a knock on the door and it was Seth who walked in.

“I'm sorry for disturbing your conversation,” he quickly apologised.

“What's the matter?” John inquired, while I kept running my hands on the blade of the dagger, the feeling of having an enemy stabbed and killed, coming to me.

“There's a delivery for the Alpha. It was sent by another alpha.” I couldn't help but wonder why Seth would be the one to deliver such news to the Alpha when there were sentinels to do so.

“Did you find out what was delivered?”

“Maybe it's another beautiful lady for the alpha,” I scoffed, as I kept busy with what I was doing.

John left with Seth, while I put the dagger back into its sheath.

“No one dare messes with my brother,” I said to myself as I stood up to my feet. I tore open the botton on my jacket to see how badly I had been injured. Thank goodness it was just a scratch.

A powerful beta must have injured me, which could probably be the only reason why I wasn't healing.

I knew I just needed to rest and then I'll be fine.

“What happened to you?” I heard Seth walk into the room, but before I could close my wound, he already saw it.

“Did you get into another fight, Jake?” Even Seth was beginning to me as one who always gets into fights unlike my brother John.

But if that was the way I could protect his territory as Alpha of the pack, then I'll have to do it. I had promised my mother not to allow the fact that the title of the Alpha was given to John instead of me, to make me turn my back in him.

“It's a minor a scratch,” I closed up the botton.

“What have you gotten yourself into again, Jake? Who did you fight with again?” Seth was the only one who really understood me. One of the most patient ever! Even with all my excesses, he still treats me well.

He reached out for my shirt and opened up the bottom to see the wound. “This is bad,” he sighed.

“It's nothing serious. I'll heal up soon,” I tried to dismiss his worries, but Seth wasn't going to fall for it. “I thought you were supposed to be with the alpha?”

“I came back because of the blood I smelt. It's the blood of a Lycan. You've been injured by a Lycan Jake,”

“A Lycan?” I rolled my eyes. No wonder I wasn't healing, I imagined.

“Yes. What happened when you went hunting? Who did you fight with?”

“Promise me you won't tell my brother about it,”

Seth knew I wouldn't tell him anything unless he had made the promise.

“I promise,” he said, and then, fixed his eyes on me, waiting for what I had to say.

“I overheard them planning to attack,”

“Them? How many? And who are they attacking?” Seth asked, all in one breath.

“Three of them. I think they are from the pack that had attacked Stephanie's pack. They probably found out that she is here with us and are now planning on attacking the pack.”

“Don't yuu think your brother deserves to know?” Seth suggested, but I didn't agree to it.

“I already dealt with them, and I know they'll not come near anymore.” I declared confidently.

I felt sharp pains on my injured chest, but I tried not to make Seth notice. “I'll be fine, Seth,” I managed a smile, waiting patiently for him to leave the room.

“That reminds me,” Seth turned around just as he was about leaving the room.

“What's that?” I raised my brow.

“You were the one who brought in Reyna right?”

“Yes I am,” I nodded. “Why are you asking?”

“Her father had sent words to your brother to release his daughter and let her return to her pack. He said they've found a mate for her who can help her unlock her wolf powers.”

I didn't know why, but for some reasons which I couldn't quite understand, I felt sad. “A mate for her?” I imagined.

There was something about Reyna that I was still finding it hard to understand. She wasn't the first girl I have kissed, and I really don't get attached to girls. But after that kiss, she had been on my mind and in my head.

“I'm not in the place to decide whether she goes or not.” I replied, hiding the pain I felt deep inside me.

“Jake…” Seth called out to me.

“Let's forget about that. I don't care if she stays or goes. It's none of my business.” I could feel the pain in my injured chest escalating, and I really wanted Seth to leave.

“I hope you are not lying to yourself, Jake?” Seth finally left, shutting the door behind him.

I was careful to make sure he was far from my room before I reopened the wound on my chest. It was already becoming more serious than I had imagined.

“Ouch!” I bit my teeth together, shutting my eyes.
