[Cordelia]

He looks so lost as I put distance between us. My words have hurt him deeper than I intended.

"Cordelia," He looks down and I place my hand on his cheek.

"I love you, Atlas. I always have." I confess. "And I'm not leaving you. I'm leaving all of this," I wave my hands around the room. "Between the illness, the search for the cure, Jude, Magnus, and Tilly...oh God, Tilly," I try not to weep but fail. "I need a break. Jasper needs a break. Come with us."

"Come with you?" he raises an eyebrow. "But if I leave, who's going to continue trying to find the cure?"

"I don't know," I huff. "Since it's your mother's cure, maybe she should be the one to look. She created this treasure hunt to begin with, maybe having her go off in search of it will jog her memory."

His head tilts to the side as he thinks about the situation. "But she's an old woman with memory issues. I'm not sure she should go alone." Atlas explains. "And Clark needs to stay by his wife. I got a call from him earlie

Greetings dear readers, Sorry for the updating delay. I had a surgery 3 days ago and the pain medication they placed me on had me very disconnected with everything. I wasn't able to sit up until this morning. I will try to get more updates to you soon. I'm sorry I haven't been as consistent as I'd like to be. Hang in there! I haven't forgotten you all. If you are enjoying this story, please consider giving it a gem or two in appreciation. Or leave a comment! I love hearing feedback.

[Clark]The Madisons eventually left me and the girls alone with their mother, a stack of paperwork, and a heart full of doubts. They want to take my girls, all three of them, back to California. They've given me two options: I can go back with them and keep their granddaughters near so they can see them daily. Or I can hand over custody of my girls for the duration of my time abroad, or until Tilly wakes up, whichever comes first. At least I know they are going to give her the chance to wake up. "Of course, we won't kill our daughter," Jennifer Madison was appalled at the implication when I asked them honestly what their intentions were. "Even without an advance directive, we know that Tilly would want us to do everything we could to save her. She wants to be there to watch these girls grow up." When I insisted that I also wanted to be there, she turned her back on me."You say you're her husband in everything but name," she threw back at me with air quotes, her lip curled sardoni

[Atlas]Standing behind Cordelia, I watch the two of us in the mirror as she puts her traveling clothes on layer by layer. She'll be leaving the tropical heat of Hawaii and in a few hours find herself in the crisp cool air of Vancouver. As she stands, I kiss the back of her head and she smiles. "I love you too, Atlas," she responds to my touch, my words caught in my throat. I want to be strong for her and our son as I send them away to safety. "I know you'll join us soon and with the cure."She turns and I marvel at how her auburn curls, now longer than I've ever seen them, tumble across her shoulders. Her bright green eyes smile up at me and I am stunned at how beautiful she has grown up to be. She has always been lovely, even as the child of 19 that I married 7 years ago. But now that she's grown into a capable woman, she glows."Do you have any idea how incredible you are?" I ask her as I kiss the spot between her eyes on the bridge of her nose. She turns her head away, blushing a

[Cordelia]I could still feel the echo of his touch when I landed in Vancouver 6 hours later. "Maman!" I hugged my mother tightly as she helped me with Jasper as we made our way through the airport. It feels like it's been forever since I've seen her, even though the wedding was only 4 months ago. "He's grown so much," she coos over her grandson as she lifts him up to her hip. "And you're starting to talk I hear," she has forgotten all about me as she indulges in his sweetness. I cannot say I blame her. With his large red curls and big grey eyes, his cheeks now rosy and full of health, he's a little charmer. "Thank you for meeting us," I gratefully follow her out of the airport to a line of black cars blocking pick-up. "What's all this?" I raise an eyebrow. "A celebrity in town?"She snorts as she bounces my son a bit higher on her hip. "This is your escort.""Mine?" I raise both eyebrows in amazement. "Whatever for?""Ask your overprotective husband," she shakes her head as she he

[Cordelia]I love my husband, but sometimes he can be a bit of a bully. "Atlas, darling," I text. "Why do you have paramilitary officers guarding my townhouse?"It takes only a few seconds for a reply. "You know why. No details on the phone," short and to the point, yet cryptic and vague simultaneously. Damn it, Atlas!"Am I not allowed to go on a walk without one? Must one watch me at all times?" I demand, gritting aloud through clenched teeth as I type to the amusement of my security detail whose lips quirk just slightly."2," is all he says in return. Strike two? Then it hits me. He's listing the number of times I've been kidnapped in the last year.Grumbling I close my phone. "Shall we, " the security officer smiles, his hand held out to indicate I follow him out the open door."Just let me pretend to be alone," I instruct the young man who has introduced himself as Jake. He's only a little taller than me, but underneath his well-tailored jacket is a gun and enough powerful musc

[Cordelia]Pausing, I hold my breath and listen. Jake looks puzzled, as he does the same, mirroring my behavior. Nothing, the hall is silent. "Miss," the receptionist calls after me. "I didn't get your name?"Smiling brightly, I shook my head. "Never mind, I think I'm going to look elsewhere. Merci beaucoup!""Merci, Madam." She waved after me, her smile wide and frozen, pulling her face tight like a doll's. Once we're outside and a few blocks away, I take a deep breath, my hands shaking. That was bold. Stupid. If Atlas knew..."Please," I look over at my bodyguard. "Do not tell my husband."Raising an eyebrow in disbelief he shakes his head. "I have to report everything, Mrs. Steele." Sighing I realize he's right. Besides, I promised Atlas that we would have no more secrets between us. After Magnus forced me to lie for months about Jasper, I know that if I lie about this now, it could be very harmful to our marriage. And I don't want that. Not after regaining his trust. "Tell m

[Cordelia}"You!" I hiss glaring at the woman on the other side of the doorway. "Why on Earth are you here?""Good evening, Cordelia," Suzanna Steele grins pleasantly, not responding to my question. Her purposeful movements suggest that she is expected and welcome here, and as I move out of the way, the feeling of betrayal seeps into my heart. I will have more than a few questions for my mother later. She's been very mysterious lately.Standing behind her is a shy young man who looks down at his feet. He is tall, dark, and extremely handsome with his bright blue eyes and strong shoulders. I've never seen him before, but he seems to know both Suzanna and my mother. As soon as he reaches Christine Delaroux, she wraps him in her embrace, kissing him gently on the cheek. "Oh good, our guests are here," my traitorous mother holds open her arms in welcome to Suzanna and I cringe inwardly as they air-kiss each other's cheeks. "Sasha, Suzanna, thank you for making it here on such short noti

[Cordelia]"Before you ask again," she removes her scarf revealing her scarred face. "Yes, I am the real Suzanna Steele."She lets that statement stand-alone, giving me a chance to accept and process my words."But...""Oh, the comb," she grinned. "Yes, I recognized it but the thing is...I wasn't sure if I could trust you. Magnus has a way of digging his claws into people, loyal people, and forcing them to behave against their better judgment. I needed to make sure you weren't under his sway. To be honest, part of me was not convinced at the time you fell over the edge of the boat.""Fell," I snap. "You pushed."The corners of her eyes crinkled, as she closed her eyes remorsefully. "It wasn't my intention. I was trying to startle you, not kill you. I needed to test you, but I'd never take a mother from her children," she looks down at the table sadly, "Nor a wife from her husband."Her words sound sincere, but were her intentions that pure?"Maybe if I tell you a bit more about who I a

[Cordelia]"Prove it? How?" "How much did Jude tell you about the seven families?" Suzanna inquires as my mother reenters the room. She sits beside Suzanna and pats her arm encouragingly, "And Magnus." "He thinks he's some kind of immortal," I laugh waiting for them to join in.The room slowly falls silent as the two ladies wait."You can't mean to say you believe that," I look at my mother. "That's not real. That can't be real.""I don't know about immortal," Suzanna confirms, "but he is impossibly old. I remember him from when I was a little girl and he's always looked the same. I don't think anyone has ever seen him as a young man." She then goes on to describe how her own father researched Magnus and watched him over time. "The first time I saw him he looks exactly as he does now, and that was 45 years ago. If anything, he looks a little younger." "Good plastic surgery, therapy, and a personal trainer," I list off, shrugging. "I'm still waiting for you to show or say something t

[Atlas]Delilah Fisher steps around the corner in a long, silver gown, her makeup flawless, and her smile large and welcoming. She looks so much like Angelica did when I first met her that my heart stutters. I love Cordelia with my entire being, and yet a part of me still reacts to the memory of the shining girl who captured my attention almost a decade ago. But this isn't Angelica. Delilah, while beautiful and poised, lacks the immaculate grace that Angelica exuded. Each of the sisters has a unique nature that shines through, despite having almost identical faces."Atlas Steele," her heels click in the silent room as she steps into the light. "Why is it so hard for you to believe your brother? Haven't you seen enough wonders in this world yet to understand that anything can be possible?""There's no such thing as mind control," I repeat. "Believing in psychic powers is for fools.""And you pride yourself on not being one," she smirks, amused. "But a true wise man would keep his mind

[Jude]Sydney. Now that she has me under her control, I'll never be free of her. When I came to save her, I was convinced she was pregnant with my child. She had sent a distress signal to me using our private channels letting me know of her pregnancy and it was enough to get me to betray the Steele family and derail their plans to find their cure. Using what I knew about Atlas' missing mother was just a distraction. My goal had always been to claim my son.But then I discovered that beyond all logic Angelica is still alive.I should have realized this was possible and known that Magnus wouldn't give up such a valuable tool so easily. Angelica had been Magnus' toy for years before she was sent into my world. I knew he had modified her, and turned her into the perfect weapon, but I had no idea how deep those modifications went until I saw her face staring at me on that magazine cover. She shouldn't have survived that explosion. And yet here she is, unscathed, awaiting a new uterus in

[Atlas]I twist my arm away from the guard in black. His face is blank as he reaches forward again. "Don't." My voice carries forward, and although it isn't loud, it holds a note of command that makes the armed guard pause."Sir," he blinks retracting his hand. "You are trespassing. I was ordered to take you into holding." My face remains still as my voice rings out again, "You will not touch us. You have no right." The guard swallows, taking a step back, my words hitting him with the force of a slap. "We will leave," I inform him. "You will report our apologies to your boss." He nods, accepting my command. "Atlas," Clark calls my attention to our situation. Blinking I snap awake, and pull my gaze from the guard. As soon as I blink, the guard stumbles backward shaking his head in confusion, as if my words and stare alone were enough to entrap him in some kind of trance. Around the edges of my vision, I see more guards headed in our direction. If we are going to make it out of h

[Atlas]Damn it, Cordelia!"Pick up, pick up, pick up," the phone rings but nobody replies. "This number is unavailable as dialed, please try again," the message on the other end informs me as my blood pressure rises and my hands shake.A moment ago I had been talking to my wife. And then the line was dead. I sent her to Canada to keep her and our children safe, and she chose to bring herself to Magnus' attention. Sending a quick message to the guards in charge of watching over my family, I stare at my screen waiting for word of their status. "Atlas, is there anything I can do to help?"Blinking away from the screen I look up at my brother as our rented van parks a few blocks away from the luau. Our driver informs us of our arrival and waits for further instructions."I'm sorry, Clark," I close my eyes, rubbing my temples. "You were saying something?""Is everything okay?" He tries again and I groan. "No." I groan honestly. "Or at least, I hope everything is fine. Lately, it seems

[Clark]The message "Tilly SOS" flicked across the screen three times before winking out, leaving my screen blank. I open my email that I keep under an alias on a secure server. There is a single message alerting me to new information available on my server. I've used this system when working with people who needed to keep their identities safe and their messages secret. The last time I needed it was working with Jude while he was still under Magnus' watch.Even though it has been months since I used it, my fingers remember the passcodes. Soon, I'll be on the server. Two emails are waiting for me, both are from Tilly's parents. In the first message, they inform me that they have landed and are settling in their new place. It is a secure facility, surrounded by several acres of land, disconnected from the distant towns and cities. The Madisons, sparing no expense, went to extra lengths to include copious additional security. They are, after all, securing their legacy. Tilly is their o

[Cordelia]There is a loud explosion just to the right of the airplane. "What was that," I lower the phone, turning it off as I gaze out the window to see what had caused the noise. "Nothing, Ma'am," the co-pilot says over his shoulder, "Just a little turbulence.""Turbulence?" I shout back as another boom resounds just outside the passenger's cabin as a curtain goes up between the pilots and the rest of the plane, blocking our view. "But we aren't even in the air yet!""Calm yourself, Mrs. Steele," Jake, the security guard, takes his phone from my numb hand. "Sit next to your children and trust your staff to get you out of here safely. We've got this, Mrs. Steele."He almost seemed offended in my lack of faith as he types into his phone what I'm guessing is a message to Atlas to calm his nerves and let him know we are alive. "But nobody is telling me what's happening," I grumble as I buckle in next to Jasper and the little girl I've decided to call Saphira until I learn her real na

[Atlas]"What do you mean gone," I barked into the phone, my hand clenching it tight enough to hear it crunch. These new smartphones seem to get flimsier with each model. I've broken 3 in the last 6 months from anger or nerves. I love my wife, but I'm pretty sure she's going to stress me into an early grave. "Your mother created a distraction, Sir," my lead guard, Jake, apologizes over the phone, not making excuses as much as stating facts. "Mrs. Suzanna Steele arrived late last night along with a young man she called Sasha. The next morning, while your mother and Ms. Devaroux kept me distracted searching for a false threat, your wife and this young man escaped."Cordelia has always been sneaky when she needs to be, and until this point, he had been very good at keeping her from falling into mischief. I wasn't expecting my mother to be part of the problem. At least now I know where she ran off to. Her room had been empty when I returned to the boat yesterday. "Are you sure it is m

[Clark]There are things that I need to keep secret from my brother, not because I do not trust him with my secrets, but because I do not want to burden him with them.Which is why I needed to get away. Without Tilly, there is no reason for me to stay on the boat."I'll meet you later, when it's time to go to the luau," I promise Atlas as I give him a hug and take my leave. I know that I could just stay at our family hotel, but I need to be somewhere else, somewhere that nobody recognizes me. And also, I want to ensure that what I am about to do is as untraceable as possible. "Mr. Janus," the man at the front desk smiles when I hand him a wad of cash in exchange for a key card. "Enjoy you stay. Please call down if you need anything."Adjusting my sunglasses, lower the bill of my baseball cap, grab my small bag, and make my way through the other guests milling around in the hotel lobby. [Jude]Opening the door, I push back the clinician waiting for Angelica to rise. The poor man looks lost, most likely expecting Angel to greet him and not a gruff guard in black."Excuse me," he calls out as I walk down the hall. I don't owe him any excuses or explanations. I'm her bodyguard. I can be seen coming and going from her room. Besides, I don't have time for niceties. I'm already late reporting to work. The guards all bunk together in a large room on the basement level. There are beds and a shared shower as well as a kitchen so that we don't disturb the rest of the house as we take care of our daily necessities. There weren't any free bunks when I arrived, so I sleep on a camping bed on the floor. As I march down there, the leader of the group raises his eyebrow. He can tell by the unused state of my sleeping area that I haven't been back to rest."Late night?" he questions me as I walk down the stairs, "Whoever she was, she better be worth it." He smirks.
