last update Last Updated: 2024-10-08 15:33:06

Hazel’s POV

Tears blinded me as I stared at Hera’s message. I couldn’t believe my dream was finally coming true. For years I had longed to return to Lucania, to my pack, to my father’s home, and now I could. Zephyrus and Stavros have defeated the enemy and overpowered them.

Lucania was ours now.

The tears spilled and trickled down my cheeks to see the next message from Hera.

Come home now, Hazel. Let’s live together like we used to. All of us are here. You’re the only one missing from our group.–Hera.

Were they missing me? Was Stavros really missing me? Since he disappeared from here overnight, I couldn’t drive the guilt out of my mind. Did I drive him away?

Now I knew the answer. Stavros left to fight for Lucania. It was a relief that I hadn’t driven him away from me. Or I could never face him again.

With Granny discharged from the hospital and living with Aunt Carmen, I was free to go to Lucania. There was no compulsion now to join the Windcrest Pack and accept Alpha Zander as

Stavros’s POV I returned from the Astral Mountains, where Hera was last seen before getting abducted. For the last twenty-four hours, I had looked for her everywhere, but we still had no clue to her whereabouts. I was now planning to take Zephyrus’s helicopter to scan every place in and around Lucania. We had to find Hera at all costs. We wouldn’t let the feral monster harm her. I strode into the packhouse to seek Zephyrus’s permission to use his copter when I noted the stressed look on everyone’s faces. “What happened?” I asked Orion, who stood waiting for Zephyrus. “The female prisoner escaped last night. Alpha Zephyrus and Leandros captured her and brought her back. She’s in the prison complex, and we’re waiting for Alpha Zephyrus here. He summoned us urgently for a meeting with the Council of Alphas.” I knew he was talking about Lena, but before I could ask him anything, Zephyrus stormed inside, looking furious. “Stav, stay back after the meeting. I need to talk to you urgentl

Hazel’s POV I drove away from Stavros’s house in a fit of jealousy. I was right all along. He was living with another female now. Everything was over between us. I wouldn’t let it affect me at all. It was good that I had the support of my family and friends. I didn’t need him in my life. When I couldn’t unlock the main door with my keys, I was in a soup, but Dante sent Aunt Cassie from the packhouse. She had a spare set of keys with her and returned to Lucania last night after Zephyrus gained control over Lucania. For the last twenty years, she had been living a rogue’s life in Inuvik instead of returning to granny’s house in Alaska. Obviously, I knew the reason behind it. She wanted a free life! The keys did the job, and I dumped my luggage at home. Aunt Cassie already had it cleaned this morning, so I was saved from the trouble. I went to the packhouse to meet Aunt Carla when Aunt Cassie announced Stavros’s wish to see me. I panicked and avoided him, but the restlessness drove me

Stavros’s POV I sped on my snowmobile far away from Hazel's house. Dyson took over as I crossed Lake Lucia, a tiny frozen lake in a secluded area off the main roads. I was now transformed into an ugly Grypwolf, breathing fire. Thankfully, I was far away from Hazel now. I could sense Dyson fighting with Vyros to the surface and had to escape abruptly. Stopping the snowmobile, I took shelter near a snowy ledge. With the pack’s hunters on the prowl, I couldn’t risk my life. No one in their right senses would believe who I actually was. Shifters here in Lucania had no idea about the Grypwolves. They were an extinct species inhabiting the Pindus Mountains in Europe. I took deep breaths to calm the dragon in me. He couldn’t react this way every time I was near Hazel. There has to be a way to stop Dyson. ‘Go back inside Dyson! Talking, touching, or kissing my mate shouldn’t invoke your wrath. It’s wrong and against the curse! I’ll consult a more powerful witch to punish you for going agai

Stavros’s POV I drove over to the far end of Lucania where Annabeth lived. I once visited her with Alpha Demetrius, Zeph, and my father when I was five years old. Yet I remembered the way to her house. It took me almost an hour to reach there, negotiating through the treacherous roads. Why did she live so far away in the most inhospitable area of Lucania? At last, I reached and parked my car right in front of her dilapidated cottage. The smoke billowing out of her chimney was the only giveaway of her presence inside. I trudged up the moss-covered steps and knocked on the rickety door. There was no response. After five minutes, I knocked louder. Yet there was no response. I was about to give up and leave when the door creaked open and Annabeth peered out. She didn’t at all look surprised to see me. It seemed she knew I was here on her doorstep. “Go away. I don’t deal with dragons.” The scowl on her face would easily dissuade anyone, but not me. I needed her help badly or I would l

Hazel’s POV I returned home feeling disappointed to find no job vacancy at the only school in Lucania. Where else could I hunt for jobs without leaving my village? There was no way I could pursue my dream career here. The only options left for me were the temporary jobs around the village. After freshening up, I desperately needed a shoulder to cry on. Maybe Aunt Cassie would have a solution for me. Maybe I could keep myself occupied at the packhouse in the meantime. Anything was better than nothing. With no news of Hera, I felt lonely. Maybe I would get some updates if I stayed at the packhouse with my aunts. I started the car and steered it towards the packhouse. I found Aunt Cassie busy cooking with Aunt Carla in the packhouse kitchen when I reached there. The hunters had returned with a big haul and a feast was being prepared for all. “You can join us too, Hazel!” I considered the option. The dishes looked too good to resist. “Sure, if you allow me to help.” Aunt Carla smile

  • Stavros - The Cursed Beta (Overpowered Series)   Chapter Twenty – Stalking Me?

Hazel’s POV I drove away from the packhouse, far away from Stavros and his new mate. My heart bled, yet I refused to shed tears for him. His bipolar attitude confused me and disturbed me at the same time. My phone buzzed with an incoming call from Aunt Carmen and I knew they realized I had left. I just hoped they wouldn’t come over to Lucania to get me. It was true I was struggling to find work, but I refused to go back to Fairbanks. Maybe with time, I would find something here I could enjoy. I drove on dejectedly when my gaze fell upon the rear-view mirror. Why was Stavros following me around in a black Chevy Silverado? Hadn’t I left him with Crystal back at the packhouse? Why was he stalking me? ‘Maybe he’s going home. It’s on the way, remember?’ reminded Zea, my wolf. She would know better with her advanced senses. I stopped paying heed to him and sped up as much as possible. We crossed his father’s house where he lived with Crystal, but Stavros didn’t stop. Stavros’s POV I reached the prison complex but didn’t have the heart to see Lena. Was she alive? I met a guard who had just gone off duty. “What’s the news of the war prisoner, Trenton?” I asked him. He gave me a grim look. “Lena Warrick?” “Yes. Is she alive?” He nodded, and I released the breath I was holding. “Beta Stavros, we’re waiting for further orders. The prisoner still hasn’t opened up and Gamma Leandros has ordered us to throw her in the dungeons to rot to death. We can’t follow his orders without consulting Alpha Zephyrus.” “Yes. Wait for Zephyrus’s orders. She’s his mate.” The guard gave me a horrified look as if this was news to him. “Oh, should I release her?” I shook my head and went inside to check up on Lena. I had almost gone halfway down the corridor when Trenton came rushing after me. “Alpha Zephyrus is here!” he announced, and I whirled and dashed out with him. I didn’t agree to have dinner with you, Crystal. I told you I was busy.” My heart skipped a beat, and I gaped at him and then at Crystal. Did I misunderstand him?Crystal was almost in tears. “I can see how busy you are. Maybe you love playing games with other people’s feelings, right? I hate you, Stavros.” Stavros glared at her while I felt ill at ease. To some extent, I could relate to her. He had played with me as well. When I had fallen for him, hook, line, and sinker, he had rejected me. Now, when I was trying to move on, he wanted to pursue me. “I have never encouraged you, Crystal. You wanted me to help you settle down, and I did. I let you live in my father’s home, free of cost. Please stop begging for sympathy votes here. Everyone in Lucania knows me well. Hazel’s POVA Fortnight LaterI watched my mate in awe as he expertly tended to the twins. It had been two weeks since he returned, yet it still felt surreal. In these two weeks, Stavros has learned to take care of the pups better than me. We didn’t need my aunts at all. He has been a doting father and a caring mate to me, making up for his absence during childbirth. He explained his lineage to me, but it didn’t matter at all that he was a wind wolf. To me, he was just my mate. The treasures he brought for me were priceless, not for their worth, but because they were a blessing from his father. He told me everything about his ordeal in the Wild Wain Village. I was glad he found his closure. The doorbell rang, bringing me out of my reverie. “I’ll get it. Here, you can change Helios,” said Stavros. He walked out of the nursery while I tucked the twins into bed. I could hear the hushed whispers downstairs. Who could be here now? I was looking forward to spending some time with Stavros af

A million questions flitted across my head as she eased off my lap and started the car.“I don’t understand, Hazel. What happened to you? Umm, I mean how do you look so thin? Your featherweight too.”She chuckled as she drove on. “Oh, come on! I was never featherweight!”I watched her, feeling even more puzzled than before. “But what about the twins? I don’t understand how you reduced so much in a few days.”She laughed as if it was obvious. “I popped the twins out, silly. That’s why my tummy has shrunk!” My mouth hung with astonishment. What does “Popped” mean? Did she deliver my pups? If so, where were they, and why was she heading to the hospital?“Popped means gave birth. The day you were captured, I delivered the twins. Today I saw my gynecologist, Dr. Sylvia, who helped me give birth. It was a routine check-up.” My heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t help but say a silent prayer to the kind godde

Stavros’s POV“That’s sorted then. I’m sure you can sort the rest by yourselves. I’ll leave for home.” In my haste, I had completely forgotten about my father’s treasure and property.“Beta, can we discuss your father’s belongings, which are rightfully yours?” asked Delta Drupal.“Oh, yes. As I had mentioned earlier, I will give away everything to the pack members. You can use the treasure and the property for the welfare of the pack. Please prepare the legal documents and send them to me in Lucania for my signature.” I wanted the entire pack to know that my father’s precious possessions belonged to them. It wasn’t the Alpha’s personal property or wealth. I wouldn’t want anyone to take undue advantage of my father’s hard earned wealth.“Yes, Beta. I appreciate your kindness. Can we transform the mansion into our packhouse to shelter the members who are homeless?” asked Delta Drupal, eliciting cheers from the pack members. I knew I had made the right decision in choosing him as the Alp

Stavros’s POVZephyrus looked relieved to see me. “Stop the battle. They’ve released Beta Stavros,” he yelled, striding towards me. Even Alpha Alexios barked orders to stop the fight and step back.I gazed all around me at the beheaded, blood-smeared bodies lying all around the snow-covered terrain. The ground was transformed into a sea of blood, and my heart sank with despair. This wasn’t what I wanted for my father’s pack.“Beta Stavros, please save our pack. Only fifty of us are alive now,” pleaded Zeta Athlon, dropping to his knees in front of me in a sea of blood. The injury across his chest looked fatal, and nothing could save him now. They should have revolted against Beta Velez and released me earlier. It would have stopped the fight.“It’s your doing, Zeta. The fight has ceased and everyone can return home. We will leave your territory right now,” said Alpha Alexios.“Please stay the night. We want to discuss an important topic tomorrow once everyone is well-rested. It’s cruc

Stavros’s POVWith the sun up all day and night, keeping track of time within the room where I was locked was difficult. It was frustrating since I couldn’t escape with the tight security all around. The wind wolves were desperate to keep me here and could do anything to have their way. I didn’t fear for myself but for my family in Lucania.By now, I was sure their Zeta had reached Lucania to abduct Hazel. Had she given birth yet?I was restless as I paced the floor. There had to be a way to reach out to Hazel. I tried to mind-link with Hazel, but I was too far away to connect to her. Neither could I connect with Zephyrus this time, although we shared a good rapport with one another. Were the wind wolves blocking me out? With their unknown powers, there was a possibility that they were preventing me from reaching out for help. Did they possess psychic powers? After the cleansing ritual, I had completely severed all ties with Dyson. So even if I tried, I couldn’t connect with him.Ther

Hazel’s POVI opened my eyes to look around me. Yes, I was still alone at the hospital waiting to be discharged. I lost my senses after hearing the news of my mate’s capture. It devastated me, totally catching me unawares. I had expected Stavros to be injured, but never captured and taken away to some unknown enemy territory.I closed my eyes, unable to imagine what he was going through there. How could Zeph allow this to happen? Wasn’t it his duty to protect his Beta? Shouldn’t he rescue Stavros? I needed my phone to get some answers from Zephyrus. Somehow, I felt let down. All his life, Stavros had unconditionally stood by Zeph and now, when he was in the enemy territory, how could the pack members sit back and relax?I eased off the hospital bed to find out what was going on. I was supposed to get discharged today and planned to follow up with my doctor, but first, I needed to check up on the twins.Walking down to the nursery, I could feel the sympathetic glances thrown my way. Stavros’s POVThe car sped along the highway that took me through the boreal forest, high Alpine, and rolling tundra until we reached a desolate village. I knew the place since I had come here before. It was the Wild Wain Village, the territory of the Wind Wolves. The place was cold, desolate, and uninhabitable, submerged in darkness because the clouds hanging low completely blocked the pale rays of the Midnight sun.Beta Velez drove on with a grim look on his face while I watched for road signs to guide me back. There was no way I would live here. After meeting their Alpha and knowing their motive, I would surely escape. I wanted to ask so many things but the gag prevented me from speaking.“Mmm!” I struggled to get it off and Beta Velez stopped the car and untied my mouth at last. I sputtered, gasping for air. My mouth felt parched but with my hands still tied up, I doubted I would get water to drink.“Why have you brought me here? I want to meet your Alpha.” He drove on in silence,

Hazel’s POVI tossed and turned all afternoon; the pain escalating every minute. After Stavros’s call, I fell asleep from exhaustion. He still hadn’t returned when I woke up, and neither did the others. Now the dull throbbing ache in my cervix turned excruciating, and I gritted my teeth to bear it.The door opened, and Aunt Carla entered my room. “Hazel, we can’t delay this anymore. We have to take you to the hospital. Your contractions have started.”I gave her a frantic look. I couldn’t deliver without Stavros! He promised he would be there with me all along. “Please call Stavros, Aunt Carla. I can’t do this alone.” Tears pooled in my eyes and streamed down my cheeks while she gave me a hesitant look.“Stavros and the others are very busy at the borders. The enemy has attacked us and they cannot return. You have us with you, Hazel. Don’t delay this. You’re risking your life and also that of your pups.” I sighed and nodded, agreeing with their wishes.“Fine, I’ll go to the hospital.”

Stavros’s POVHazel’s call disturbed me a lot as I waited for some update on the attackers. True to his promise, Orion called after forty minutes with a shocking update. I wondered how he located the enemy so fast. It only meant one thing. They hadn’t left but were lurking nearby instead.“Yes, Orion. Have you located the enemy?”“Yes, Stav. They’ve taken shelter at the foothills of Mount Richardson. I’m keeping a watch on their activities and it doesn’t look hopeful. I think they’re heading over to launch an attack on us again.”My jaws dropped with horror. I had no idea the enemy was so close. “Do you have any idea who they are and what they want?”“No, Stav, but they aren’t normal shifters like us. Their speed is the fastest I’ve ever seen. I can’t get near as they can sense anything nearby. They’ve killed two rogues trespassing nearby and five bears already.” I frowned at his description.“How do they look? Do they possess any typical physical traits?” Orion considered my question
