After a long bath and a dinner of champions, Pearl settled down with a book for the night. She was more than ready to sleep and hopefully dream about her night with a movie star. She finished the chapter and turned off the light when her her phone dinged. It was a text. She opened the phone and saw it was from Dylan. "You're right. I don't know why I cared. Glad you're safe. Have a good night." Ugh. He was a dick and confusing as hell. She turned out the light and slept like a baby.
"Good morning, Pearl." David, her boss, greeted her in her office. Why was he was always so put together? He looked like he should be on the cover of GQ. His cologne smelled clean and his green eyes were always so inquisitive. He looked like money and purpose. He really was handsome. "Have a nice weekend?" He asked.
"I did." Pearl replied trying to stifle a giggle. Even she couldn't believe what had happened. Her body still felt Rhys' presence and she was actually thankful for thePearl busted her ass getting the brochures together for the meeting. She didn't get home until 10 pm and she still had to pack. She was a ball of nerves. She was flying out the next evening with her boss. A 3 hour flight with him and a 3 day business trip on top of it. She was a literal wreck. He had invited her to help her career, and she was aware of it. She just knew it. He could be doing what he was asking of her without her being there. He wanted to present her to the owners now that she had this promotion. She was terrified she'd let him down and needed to be on top of her game. She got her things packed and settled down finally for the night. She sent John a text letting him know she wouldn't be available for their Wednesday practice but to send her the song list and she would make sure she made the time to learn any new songs before their Saturday rehearsal. She was flying back Saturday morning and said she'd be at this house by the late afternoon that day.The
She slept like crap. David had insisted she take the bedroom and the guilt and awkwardness caused her to have a fitful sleep. She got herself together and came out to the little kitchen after she got out of bed and was ready. David was already awake and had coffee going. He looked pristine as ever and she was starting to think maybe he wasn't human. "Good morning Pearl, how did you sleep?" David asked with a smile. "Ok I guess. So what's in the agenda today. I know our big meeting is Friday morning at 9. That's the most I got from Ashley before we left." Pearl wasn't sure what was planned but she preferred to know ahead of time. "Today we head to the corporate office and meet the team. I have scheduled a tour for you and then we will have dinner tonight with the head of marketing here. Sound good?" David asked."Yes sir. Sounds great." She said The tour went well. It was a huge, 12 story building with three times the staff their company had. Pearl met seve
They made it to Canlis 20 minutes early. They made their way to the bar, Pearl had several admirers when she walked into the room and David kept his hand on her back the entire time. David seemed very protective of her and Pearl was admittedly enjoying it. It wasn't a creepy kind of protective. It was male. It was safe. He ordered himself a Highland Park neat and asked Pearl what she wanted to drink. "White wine?" Pearl said timidly. "The lady will have a Tesoro della Regina Pinot Grigio" Yes that, whatever that is, Pearl thought. The place was beautiful. Darkly lit with candles and really nice linen on the tables. They stood at a cocktail table and Pearl couldn't help herself. "So where are you from David? Do you come from an affluent family? I don't mean to pry but I'm afraid to stand too close to you, I might wrinkle you. You know what wine to order and you just seem...really put together." David let out a deep laugh and completely avoided the question entir
After several more drinks, Pearl managed to convince David to head back to their room. He was clearly drunk and Pearl wasn't even angry. After he went on to talk about his horrible father, she disliked him even more than she did at dinner. What a selfish, money hungry prick, Pearl thought. Thank god his mother had a prenup and was smart about money or David would have had nothing. And his father was only making this merger happen to come back into his life, and David was suspicious it was because of his money. How horrible. They hailed a cab and Pearl told the driver what hotel they were staying at. As they rode, David grabbed Pearl's hand and held it in silence. It was not in any way uncomfortable and she was happy to be there for him. He always treated her like an equal at work. Lately, he wanted to be near her more and she wondered how many friends he had. His wanting to be around her at work more started about a month ago and she was putting it all together now. He ha
Calm down Pearl. Keep calm Pearl. She kept repeating to herself. "Oh my god, Pearl with the pretty eyes. You are the last person I was expecting to see here. Who's the stalker now, baby girl?" Rhys asked with a wink, giggling like a school boy, proud of his joke and even happier to see her. He grabbed her and gave her a big hug and kiss. A kiss that was obviously not just friendly and completely inappropriate publicly. David looked puzzled, to say the least. "I figured you'd at least have sent me a text by now. I didn't even get the usual morning after obligatory text. Very sad, Pearl I expected more from you. But this! You outdid yourself." He smiled again. What was going on? This star of this show is acting like I just made his day showing up like creeper after a one night stand, Pearl thought. And in front of my boss to boot. Ugh. This week couldn't get any weirder or more uncomfortable. Rhys then noticed I wasn't alone and looked quizzically at David."David, this is
Pearl stared at herself in the mirror for what seemed like hours, locked in the hotel bathroom. Her life had done a complete 180. She went from a mentally defeated, miserable, unhappy, unwanted married woman to a woman being desired by a man that was a celebrity. And valued as a person by a billionaire Robert Redford look alike. What the hell was going on? She was seriously thinking regular her went to some kind of Total Recall type place and decided to give herself a little brain vacay and have some new memory implanted in her mind. No way this was happening.“Pearl..are you ok? You've been on there awhile and I'm slightly concerned." David said as he knocked lightly. "I'm fine. I just needed a long bath. It's been a week." Pearl said to the door. "Yes, I understand. I can call his hotel and cancel for you if you'd like." David had already made the decision that he wasn't going. He didn't want to intrude and he said he had a lot of work to do. Which she knew may or
They made love on literally every viable surface of that hotel suite. She thought the suite at the hotel back home was impressive, this was far nicer. He was out on the balcony begging for her to share a smoke with him so he could proudly adore her bed hair when she saw it. Bukowski's "Love is a Dog From Hell". Definitely his copy. It was worn and rolled like it had traveled. She grabbed the hotel pen from the counter and opened to cover page. She inscribed. "There's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out, but I'm too clever- I only let him out at night sometimes, when everybody's asleep. I say, I know you're there so don't be sad. Then I put him back. And he's singing a little in there I haven't quite let him die And we sleep toget
David offered her a drink. And she took it. She watched him run his fingers through his sandy blonde hair. And she began to think about The Great Gatsby. How the choices we make in life can sometimes haunt us forever. She had left her marriage. She took that chance. And what if David was something she'd regret forever? She wasn't getting any younger. She didn't know how old he was, but she thought about Gatsby and Daisy. Could she see him married to someone else in a few years and honestly tell herself she'd have no regrets? Rhys was in the back of her mind. But he lived states away and had a career in movies. What would ever realistically come of that? Could anything? Was their attraction just pure sex? David was right in front of her. He was tangible. Real. Beautiful. Rich. (Not that rich mattered but damn it was good icing on his amazingness cake). She decided she'd slam her drink and see what she felt. So she did. She felt good still about this line of thought. "David" she
