Ariana had no idea what could happen.

Sienna suddenly said, "There's a charity auction tonight. Why don't you attend it with me?"

"Weren't we talking about Joanne? Why the change of topic?"

Sienna replied mysteriously, "Oh, you'll find out why soon. But before the event, drop by my place so that I can have someone do your makeup."

Ariana didn't have any surgery scheduled for that day, so she took an hour off in the afternoon and went to Sienna's place.

The moment she reached there, Sienna sat her down in front of the vanity and asked the makeup artist to work her magic.

The makeup artist she hired was well-known in the entertainment industry. She had done many iconic looks for various celebrities.

She praised, "Ms. Lubove, your skin is flawless. It's like you don't have any pores. With your looks, it's a shame you're not in showbiz."

Ariana replied, "I'd just be a pretty face and nothing more. I don't have that kind of talent."

"Some people would love to be a pretty face. But sadly, things don't always work out the way they want them to," the makeup artist commented.

She chatted with Ariana while applying a light layer of makeup that suited her skin type and her overall dignified temperament.

When her outfit, makeup, and hairstyle were all done, Ariana stood up in her full glory.

Sienna looked at her with bright eyes full of admiration. "You're going to outshine everyone tonight, Ari! Let's get going!"

Ariana thought Sienna was just being playful. But when they arrived at the auction venue, she finally understood why Sienna had insisted on dressing her up—Spencer would be attending the event with Joanne in tow.

They ran into Jensen as soon as they entered.

Jensen looked at Ariana from head to toe and smiled appreciatively. "Where did this captivating fairy come from? If nobody claims you, I'm taking you home."

"Stop fooling around." Ariana nudged him lightly. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here with my mom," Jensen replied. "Did you come with Sienna? You should let her dress you up more often. Your obsession with those pastel, girly clothes was such a waste of your good looks."

Sienna chimed in animatedly, "I know, right? Leave it to me. I'll make sure you're always radiant and stunning!"

"I'm a doctor. I go to the hospital to treat patients, not to participate in beauty contests," Ariana said helplessly.

"But seeing a beautiful doctor will cheer the patients up and help them to recover faster," Jensen said jokingly.

Ariana rolled her eyes at him. "What nonsense."

Jensen turned to Sienna. "See, Sisi. She always scoffs at whatever I say."

The three of them had grown up together and shared a deep bond. Their conversation flowed naturally as they bantered with each other.

After they chatted for a while, Sienna went away to take a phone call.

Jensen and Ariana remained where they were.

"Let me know if there's anything that catches your eye. I'll bid on it for you. Consider it a reward for looking so beautiful tonight," Jensen offered playfully.

"It's all jewelry and some supposedly valuable stuff. You know I don't care about that. You should get Sisi something, though," Ariana said with a laugh.

Although Sienna had made a name for herself in the fashion industry, her current lifestyle was still quite modest compared to before.

When Spencer entered the venue with Joanne, the first person he laid eyes on was Ariana.

She wore a mermaid-style evening gown.

The thin gauze draped over her slender shoulders perfectly, connecting down to a bodice adorned with transparent crystal beads. Her waist was cinched into an hourglass shape. Wavy pleats extended from the small of her back to the flared-out train.

The gown hugged her curves flawlessly. The broad, glittering train of the stunning gown shimmered with every little movement. Ariana looked like she had put a night sky full of stars on her body, making it impossible for one to look away.

Her figure was impeccable. The black fabric made her already fair skin glow radiantly by contrasting starkly against it. Her slender wrists, slim neck, and narrow waist were put on full display.

Usually, only Spencer got to see those beautiful sides of her. But today, she was openly showcasing herself and smiling so enchantingly.

Spencer couldn't help but quicken his pace.

Joanne exclaimed in surprise. She almost lost her balance when Spencer pulled her along.

Only when her high-pitched cry reached his ears did Spencer remember that he had come here with someone and stopped to wait for her.

Joanne was wearing the same dress Ariana had worn previously.

In her opinion, while she wasn't as beautiful as Ariana—whose face was a masterpiece created by the heavens—the fact remained that Spencer didn't like his wife. No matter how drop-dead gorgeous Ariana was, it was useless in his eyes.

She couldn't hold a candle to Ariana in terms of looks, but she had the advantage of being young. Her figure and skin weren't much inferior compared to Ariana's. If Ariana looked good in a certain dress, she believed she would look even better in it.

By extension, she thought she was a better match for Spencer than Ariana.

Sure enough, after Joanne put on that silver evening gown and had a makeover done, she felt like a brand new woman. Many people complimented her new look.

She had never worn such an expensive and beautiful dress before. She couldn't wait to prove to everyone, especially Spencer, that she was more suitable for him.

However, in the eyes of a professional fashion designer like Sienna, it was a completely different story.

Joanne's figure, bone structure, and overall disposition couldn't compare to Ariana's. The effect she achieved by wearing the same dress was no more than being an inferior, lackluster imitation of Ariana.

Ariana looked ethereal and otherworldly in that dress. But Joanne had a petite frame and a cute appearance, so the silver gown didn't suit her at all.

When Sienna learned that Joanne would be attending the auction, she was eager to bring Ariana along to see how Joanne would embarrass herself.

After Sienna finished her call, she looked up and saw Spencer staring at Ariana. She couldn't help but notice him due to his striking appearance and height, which made him stand out in any crowd.

She was sure she saw a look of astonishment in his eyes.

Sienna cheered internally as her goal was achieved. She wanted that bastard to realize how attractive, outstanding, and charming Ariana was.

Ariana saw Spencer and Joanne, too.

Like the time at the art exhibition, Joanne was holding onto Spencer's arm intimately again.

Ariana also noticed Spencer's gaze on her. His eyes were cold as he stared at her fiercely like she was an enemy.

Joanne noticed Ariana the moment they stepped into the venue. She was immediately stunned at how beautiful she was. She hadn't expected to see Ariana there. Nor did she anticipate that Ariana would be wearing a dress that was even more breathtaking than the silver one.

Even she, a woman, found Ariana unbelievably beautiful. Men would go crazy for a woman like her.

She snuck a glance at Spencer instinctively and saw a slight hint of anger in his eyes. Having been around him for some time, she had a grasp of his temper.

His lips were tightly pressed together, and he looked unbothered. Though his expression was devoid of any emotion, Joanne knew he was angry. Instead of being impressed by Ariana's beauty, he was annoyed for some reason.

Joanne felt reassured when she saw this. Spencer must have hated Ariana so much that the mere sight of her displeased him. He paid no heed to how stunning she looked in that evening gown.

She whispered, "Spence, should we go over and say hello to Dr. Lubove? She seems to be having a good time talking to that man."

Spencer's expression soured further at her words.

Joanne noticed the slight change and thought that no man could stand having a promiscuous wife.

Jensen ordered fruit juice for Ariana and himself. He insisted on sipping on his juice and watching others dance. Even when Ariana felt nauseous from drinking too much juice, he still refused to leave. Unable to put up with it any longer, Ariana said to him, "Drink all you want. I'm leaving."Finally, Jensen stood up and offered to drive her home. Something seemed to be troubling him. Ariana held back from prodding until they reached her place. The voice sounded familiar—it was Joanne! Spencer followed the sound and pushed open the two doors leading to the fire escape stairwell."Spence!"Spencer looked down and frowned deeply. Ariana was stunned by the scene.Although Jensen had a sharp tongue and a whimsical personality, he was actually serious and stoic when he was working. If not, the female doctors and nurses wouldn't have been charmed by his chaste and polite facade.Of course Spencer was even more stoic and mature. He was the type who'd always keep his cool, even if the world came crashing down on him.It was shocking enough that Jensen started the fight. But why did Spencer start fighting as well? Both Jensen and Spencer were clearly trained in close combat. Every attack they delivered was packed with tremendous force. They traded blows with each other, their skill levels seemingly on par with each other. No matter how anxious Ariana was, she couldn't leave her wheelchair at all."Hey! Ariana could barely believe her ears. What did Spencer say just now? He really was a monster, wasn't he?She was already injured, yet all he could think about was having sex with her.Having spotted Ariana's shocked expression, Spencer stripped his shirt off. "You don't have to move."Ariana's cheeks colored out of anger. Somehow, it enhanced her beauty even more. She glared at Spencer furiously while snarling out, "You… You monster!"He responded by leaning closer to her. He supported his weight with one hand placed on the couch's backseat as he began to edge closer to her. "How can I ever satisfy your urges if I don't do that? Mrs. Ulrich, make your choice. You want to continue this in our bedroom, or do you want to do it right here?"Ariana tried to push Spencer away. "Do it, then! I dare you!""Why won't I?" Spencer gripped Ariana's wrist. "You were the one who forbade me from being intimate with other women. What do you think I should do, then?"A surge of anger and emb

Seriously, he's… You know what? I'll just show them to you."Then, he pulled out his phone and passed it to Ariana.Ariana didn't get to see the files, for she glanced at the photo, which was pasted on the upper right corner of the résumé.Jeremy Yates? Then, she glanced at the name on the résumé. It really was him.Ariana decided not to look at the résumé after that. She asked, "Did he join the hospital through the regular hiring channel?""Of course not. A hint of gratitude could be seen in her eyes."Thank you, Jen."Jensen knew what she meant. She was grateful to him for not starting another conflict with Spencer. The organizers of the fashion design competition didn't arrange any meals or accommodations for the participants. That meant everyone was responsible for their own stay. Ariana and Sienna soon checked into a nearby hotel. Sienna had brought the outfit that was meant to be her participating product, as well as various rolls of fabric and a mini sewing machine. She still needed to make adjustments to the outfit before the start of the semifinals.Hence, Ariana took the elevator to the hotel lobby. She wanted to get some fresh air at the fountain in front of the hotel.Since she was stuck in a wheelchair, it was inconvenient for her to go anywhere else on her own. Ariana lowered her gaze, her lashes hiding the emotions in her eyes. Spencer could not see them, but he imagined her expression remained as distant as ever."I just want to know if we could still be friends," he continued softly.Ariana paused for several seconds before shaking her head. Spencer's voice was strained with pain as he spoke, "I know it's an inappropriate request, but if we don't try this approach, I might not be able to stop pursuing you." "So you're saying if I don't agree to be friends, you'll keep bothering me?" Ariana finally looked at him directly. "Are you threatening me?"His words reminded her of Zane, who had used the same tactic. She wondered if all men thought this way—when pursuit failed, they would settle for friendship as a consolation prize.Spencer met her gaze. "That's not it. Ari… I'm just asking for your mercy."His eyes were bloodshot with dark circles underneath, clearly showing signs of sleepless nights. Ariana looked away, unable to bear

"Losing control makes us no better than animals. You're better than that.""Maybe being an animal would hurt less," Spencer muttered."If that's your attitude, then there's nothing left to discuss." Jacob was getting exasperated with him. "That man isn't right for her!" Spencer burst out, recounting everything that had happened.Jacob shook his head. "They have a child together. "Still, he shouldn't have hit anyone!" Ariana sighed as she looked at his face, now swollen and red. "Does it hurt?"Sam's eyes welled up with tears. "Yeah, it hurts like hell..."Spencer stood nearby, his fists clenched tight. For some reason, Sam just made his blood boil, and he wanted nothing more than to punch him again."Mr. Ulrich," Ariana said while supporting Sam. "Let me say this one last time—stay out of my life. Since Sam's willing to let this go, I won't press charges, but if there's a next time, I will call the police."After her warning, Ariana helped Sam inside their house. They both froze in their tracks when they saw Leo standing in the doorway—neither knew how long he had been awake or how much he had heard."Leo," Ariana quickly spoke up. "Why are you always bothering Ari? She's my girlfriend now, and you should stop.""You're not right for her," Spencer replied coldly."Are you?" Sam raised an eyebrow. "I'm younger, more devoted, and I'd never hurt her or flirt with another woman. What makes you think you're better?""This is between Ari and me. It doesn't concern you.""It doesn't concern me? Or you just can't think of a response? Did I hit a nerve? I guess getting older really does make people shameless.""Don't get cocky. "I already told him, but I'll emphasize it to him again. By the way, when are you heading to Orkney? I want to pick up Leo!""Tomorrow afternoon," Ariana replied. "But don't worry about picking him up—he's coming with me."When Ariana hung up, she found Leo watching her expectantly. He jumped into her arms as soon as she put down her phone. "Mom, are you done? You always use that excuse, but you're only five years older than me!"Before Ariana could respond, Dennis chimed in from the front seat, "There's an old saying—you can't force love.
