Marissa

Today is the day that will seal my fate. The day that really marks the end of my freedom. The engagement party. I don’t want to attend but of course I have to. It is my engagement party. I am the co-star for the night.

I look into the mirror and see a pale face with dark rings around the eyes and a frown on the pale lips. I look like a ghost. I hide a large yawn behind my hand as I prepare my toothbrush. I could not sleep at all last night. Too preoccupied in my mind and worried about today.

At ten minutes to seven there is the usual knock on the door. Outside the door where usually Luca stands is Antonio instead with a smile adorning his beautiful lips. Of course he is happy this day is finally happening. I just send him a tired scowl his way.

“Did you sleep badly, my love?” His smile falls and concern shines in his eyes. He lifts his hand to cup my cheek. “Are you nervous about today?”

“Of course I’m not nervous about today! What makes you think I would be uncomfortabl

Marissa I sit in a chair in front of a mirror while a skinny and beautiful woman in her early thirties works her magic on my hair. I can barely recognize the woman that looks back at me from the other side of the looking glass. Gone are the dark circles around my eyes. Eyes that now shine with a beautiful blue color thanks to the carefully placed makeup. My lips are a slightly rosy red, not too strong and not too weak. And I had no idea that I had such prominent cheekbones. I asked for a natural look and I must admit that she did a fabulous job. There is no question that I am wearing makeup but it looks light and doesn’t take over my whole face. My dead straight hair is now being curled and arranged in a complicated updo with tresses softly caressing my neck and framing my face. I look like a moviestar, or a model, or perhaps a princess. Like a future queen of a mob kingdom. The door to the room opens and Isabella enters. She is dressed in a maroon gown that clings to her trim body

Marissa I sigh as I finally drop down on my bed after a late night shower. The time is well past midnight and I am exhausted after tonight's party. If I can call it a party. It wasn’t especially fun. First they wanted to take pictures of me and Antonio. Then of only me, then the ring, then Antonio. Then pictures were taken of Antonio holding my hand and showing off the ring. There were pictures taken on the stairs, next to a fountain and together with his family. Then I was introduced to a million different people. Politicians, rich men, powerful men. And of course take pictures with every one of them. When all of this was done we had to dance, alone, with all eyes on us and of course more pictures were taken. I am happy that Antonio had scheduled for dance lessons the previous week or I am sure that I would have messed up. I had to dance with several other rich and powerful men, but I can’t remember the name of any of them. I rub my aching feet with a groan. I’m not wearing heels a

Marissa “Wh-what contracts?” My mom’s anxious voice cuts off dad's rambling and excuses. “All the contracts. Your membership to his casinos, all the loans. Everything! You signed that you would repay ten million dollars in one year! How did you think that you could gain such a ridiculous amount of money? And how could you agree to the terms? To give yourselves or me in payment if you failed to repay in cash?” My voice is pitched and by the end of my outburst I’m almost screaming. My heart is racing and I’m breathing hard. I rise from the bed to pace back and forth trying to collect myself. They both fall silent on the other side. All I hear are mom’s crying and dad’s heavy breathing. I slump on the bed. The intense emotions draining all my energy. “Why would you sign such a contract? How did you think you would be able to repay ten million dollars in a year? Or ever for that matter? Is this why you wanted me to quit college? Because you owed him money?” My voice breaks at the end an

Antonio “Can I have a drink, please?” Marissa asks as she slumps down on a couch with a view of the back gardens. I look down at her taking in her appearance. Her skin is pale and so are her lips. Her eyes are rimmed red from crying and there are also prominent circles under her eyes, dark and blue. She looks exhausted. The light that usually shines in her beautiful eyes is not there. The only emotions I see in her are sorrow and exhaustion. “I don’t think that is a good idea.” Her eyes light up at that. Not with happiness but anger and defiance. “I think I should be the judge of that!” She grits out between clenched teeth, her hands fisting in her lap. “You are exhausted by everything that has happened this weekend and you are emotionally unstable. Those are both good reasons for not drinking alcohol.” I say and sit down next to her. I choose to not take a drink for myself as well even though I feel like I would need it. She folds her arms across her chest and turns her face aw

Marissa My head hurts, and my throat and my back and everything else as well. I am exhausted and feel cold to the bone. When I look at myself in the mirror I’m pale with dark circles around my eyes. Even my lips are pale. But none of that matters. That is not going to stop me from going to school this morning. I put on some makeup to make sure that I look my normal self when I head down to breakfast. I mostly sit quietly during breakfast, only answering direct questions. Antonio doesn’t question my silence but he throws concerned glances at me from time to time. Maybe he thinks I am still digesting all that happened this weekend. It felt like this weekend lasted forever and I’m glad it’s finally monday. Me and Luca leave for school immediately after breakfast since the first lecture starts early. He keeps sending me worried glances. I guess he’s not used to me being so silent. I hear him getting message after message on his phone but I’m too tired to care who's messaging him. In cl

Marissa I’m confused as I wake up as to where I am before I recognize it as my room. The bed that usually is so comfortable feels too warm and at the same time too cold. The room is dark with the curtains drawn over the windows. By the light that manages to force its way through the cracks in curtains I can see that it’s still daytime. I push off the comforter and struggle to sit up in bed. I’m bathing in my own sweat. My head hurts and feels extremely heavy. I notice the IV connected to my hand and I furrow my brows in confusion. As my feet touch the carpet the door is opened and Antonio steps inside. He looks somber as his eyes search for me. An older gentleman with a bald head and a bushy gray mustache follows behind him. When Antonio sees that I am on my way up from bed, he hurries over and sits down next to me. “How are you feeling?” His voice is full of concern as he gazes into my eyes. “Ehm. Not too good?” My answer comes out more like a question as I throw a glance to the u

Marissa Antonio turns on the shower and then turns to me. “Take off your clothes.” I blink at him. Is he for real? Does he really think that I will shower with him in the room? He sighs and steps closer to me. He reaches for my nightgown (When did I get into the nightgown?) and starts to pull it up. I grab hold of my gown and glare at him. “I’m not showering with you in here!” My voice breaks every other word and some words just come out as a wheeze. “It is only a shower.” He pulls the garment over my head and then proceeds to pull down my panties. I’m too weak to fight against him and within a minute I stand naked under the showerhead. The warm water flows down my body, relaxing my muscles and rinsing away the sweat. It almost feels like the water can cleanse me from my cold. I feel myself swaying and my eyelids feel heavy as if I’m about to fall asleep. Big, calloused hands, slippery with soap start to rub my shoulders and back and I let out a moan. Antonio doesn’t say anything,

Marissa When he has undressed me I make a move to turn and enter the shower but Antonio takes hold of my upper arms. “Undress me.” He commands. I hesitate but he takes my hands and moves them to the hem of his t-shirt. “Undress me.” His voice is firm and dominant as he commands me to do as he says. I bite my lip but grab the hem and slowly drag his shirt up over his head. I avert my eyes once it’s off, uncertain if I dare to look at him. He grabs my chin and tilts my head to look into my eyes. “Look at me. This body is yours. Yours to look at, yours to touch, yours to kiss and worship. Only yours.” He lets go of my chin and slowly I let my eyes fall down his chest and stomach. I have seen him before during my punishments but this time it feels so much more intimate. “Touch me.” My eyes dart up to meet his gaze and I bite my lip. “Touch me. Feel me. Get to know my body.” My hands shake as I raise them to his shoulders. His skin is warm. I slowly drag my hands from his shoulders to hi

MarissaThe sun is shining as I look out through the car window at the white february snow. It is pristine white and glitters like diamonds as the sun touches it. It snowed the night to today so it is all new and untouched. It is cold outside, much too cold for my liking, but today the coldness is perfect. It turns the landscape outside to that of a snowy fairytale. The branches of the trees look like they are made out of dark sparkling crystals. The ground looks soft with blindingly white snow. The sun is shining brightly on the purely blue sky with only a few scattered cotton clouds.Next to me my mom sniffles as we see the church across the snow covered fields. It white plaster contrasting with the even whiter snow. The large colorful windows and the

MarissaThe next morning I wake up feeling deliciously sore from our rough lovemaking the night before. But as I brush my teeth another, not so pleasant, feeling hits me. With a second to spare I run to the toilet and empty the contents of my stomach. Antonio comes rushing into the bathroom with his shirt halfway buttoned and his belt hanging loosely around his waist.“Are you sick? Are you still affected by the concussion? Should I call for Dr. Stevens?” He collects my hair and rubs my back. I wave at his speech, still focused on heaving into the bowl. When I’m done he dries my mouth with a piece of paper.“I can’t speak while throwing up!” I growl at him and he has the decency to look apologetic.

MarissaThe ride home went much faster than I had hoped. The promise of a punishment has me on edge. Sure, a spanking arouses me more than I would have hoped, but it still hurts like hell. Especially the day after. I’m sure this time will hurt alot since he is furious about the kiss.As we make our way through the hallway towards his room I hesitate outside my room. “Perhaps I should change?” I know I’m only procrastinating but I really don’t want my ass black and blue tomorrow.“There is no need. I want you completely naked.” He tugs my hand and I have no choice but to follow him to his room. When he closes the door behind us a shiver of both fear and anticipation goes through my body.

MarissaBoth James and Josie agree that the apartment is much better than anything they could ever dream of ever living in on a student salary and will go home to pack and move in as soon as possible. I am very pleased that they have agreed and will look past their differences and live together. When we exit the building I see Antonio leaning against a car on the other side of the road. His posture is stiff with his ankles crossed over each other and arms crossed over his chest. His face is perfectly scolded in an indifferent expression and his eyes are hidden behind a pair of shades. Even if there are no obvious signs I can see that he is furious. I stop in my tracks to take him in and try to think of a reason for him to be this angry.I wring my hands

MarissaThe next morning I was more or less back to normal. Sure there was some swelling left and a few cuts that had not yet healed but at least every movement didn’t cause me pain. I was a bit nauseous in the morning and had some difficulty eating breakfast but it disappeared after an hour or so. Today I’m going to pick up James at the hospital and Josie at her apartment and then we’re going to have a look at the apartment Antonio is willing to provide them. From now on it is Luca and another bodyguard, Steve, that will be with me at all times. I find it a bit overbearing but at the same time I understand Antonio’s concern. And frankly, I would rather not be kidnapped again either.Steve is closer to my age and is still in training, accordi

Antonio My head is pulsing with an oncoming headache. That useless idiot Morozov really screwed up big time. I have been trying to get to him since he took over after his uncle but he has always found a way out. But now all the afterwork that has to be done thanks to his death is taking up time I’d rather use for other things. Like seeing that Marissa is okay. There has to be a new leader for the Russians and I would want to start off on a good foot with whoever takes the place. It will probably be the cousin of Morozov that takes his place. He is about the same age as me and much more cooperative. He is his father’s son, smart, organized and has values. I think we can have back the truce I had with his father. He might not be all that happy with the amount of

Marissa“I want a life that is more normal. I want to go home to my friends, to have my friends over whenever I want. I want to meet my parents and have a relationship with them. I want what I had but you took from me!” His arms around me tightens.“Your parents will hurt your feelings with questions about money.” His allegation has anger rising in my chest. I push against him and this time he lets me lean out a little bit to look into his eyes.“You should not be the one to decide if that hurts me. I should have the right to decide what hurts me and what doesn’t. I should have the right to decide who I want to have a relationship wi

MarissaMy head feels like it has been through a thunderstorm, then thumped by a horde of elephants and lastly thrown off a cliff. I groan as I try to open my eyes. One eye I manage to pry open but the other one is swollen shut.“Shhh. It’s okay, my love. You are home again.” Antonio’s deep voice reaches me through the pain. He leans in so that I can see him through the crack I manage to open. There is a soft smile on his lips but it doesn’t reach his eyes. His eyes are filled with concern mixed with anger. I lift my arm to search for him and he quickly takes my hand. “You have a concussion and some severe bruising and swelling on your face. But no serious injuries.”“Wha…” My throat is parched so my voice

This chapter contains sexual assault. If you find that triggering you should skip. Marissa The relief that Anton had to take a call goes away as fast as it came when my brain registers what he has planned for me. He’s gonna rape me. I have to get out of here. I quickly put on my bra and sweater again. I will not make it easy for him to rape me by staying unclothed, that's for sure. I try the door without much hope for it to be open and as I thought it is locked. My eyes scan the room. It is small with bare concrete walls. The floor is concrete as well and has a floor drain in the middle. On the wall next to the door I see pipes and an outlet for water. Whatever they used to do in here was dirty and needed to be flushed regularly. The only object in the room is the thin foam mattress. There are no things littering the floor and no sheets on the mattress. I lift it to see if there is anything underneath but the only thing I find underneath is the blank concrete floor. I start to sea
