“ Layla! I am so tired and I am not ready to argue with you today” Chleo said.

“ I am not arguing either but I just wanted to ask you how did it go, I mean your search for a job” Layla asked.

“ I guess that is none of your business, I know you want to mock me “ She said in anger.

“ I am not mocking you, I just want us to make peace and be one family, I know that I have offended you in many ways but can you please forgive me, I want us to live as one in this small tiny house, I also want to search for a job” Layla said and Mrs Wood walked closer to them.

“ Yes Chleo! I want us to live as one family, I don’t want us to argue anymore, I don’t want to rest you bad or like an outsider anymore I want to treat you as my daughter now, I know that I have one so much mistakes in the pass by treating you horrible but please accept my apology” Mrs Wood said and Chleo was confuse.

“ What is going on here?” She asked.

“ Nothing but just want us to be as one family now” Mrs Wood said.

“ I already prepared the dinner. Why don’t you come join us on the dinning?” Mrs Wood said.

“ Off course, I will but I need to take a shower” she said and she entered the room thinking.

“ Could it be that they have both changed or this is a trick?” She asked herself while thinking and she smiled.

“ Well, maybe they have changed after all, no more living of luxury life that made us run into debt and now, Layla also wants to sea h for a job maybe, they thought about. Thank goodness they want us to live as one family now, this is what I have always prayed for, I have always wanted this maybe from her I can get motherly love since I never got one, she always tells me that I murdered my mother because she died after she gave birth to me. I am so sorry mum that I was the cause of your death, I can’t get to see you and you can’t get ti see yo it daughter also”she said speaking to herself and she smiled.

Mrs Wood and Layla were happy that Chleo already believed them.

“ I told you mum, Chleo will believe, she is such a fool” Layla said.

“ I just hope this work out” Mrs Wood said and Chleo walked out from the room and they smiled, they went to the dining, they eat together.

“ Sir! Mrs Thomas is here to see you” the bodyguard said and Nathan was in his private backyard.

“ Let her in” he ordered his bodyguard and after few minutes, Mrs Thomas came in.

“ Nathan Wilson, how are you doing?” Mrs Thomas said.

“ I Hope you are not here to ask for money?” He asked and Mrs Thomas smiled.

“ I demande some respect from you Nathan. I know I did you bad in the past but I am still your foster aunt” Mrs Thomas said.

“ I am sorry Mrs Thomas. Why are you here?” He asked.

“ I’m sure, you know about Mrs Wood, the woman whom lost her husband recently, her husband had a lot of debt before his dead” Mrs Thomas said.

“ What is it about her?” He asked.

“ She needs help to pay off her husband debt so she can live her luxury life back, I remember you told me that you have a lot of money and you don’t know what to use for so I suggest her to give you her stepdaughter while you give her money in exchange” Mrs Thomas said.

“ The girl will be yours forever” Mrs Thomas said.

“ I will need to see the girl first, if I like her then I pay Mrs Wood and have the girl” He said and Mrs Thomas smiled.

“ I’m sure you will like her, you do not need to worry” she said and Mrs Thomas smiled.

“ Chleo was in the kitchen while, Mrs Wood and Chleo were in the backyard pretending to tidy, they both stood and Mrs Wood fold her hand.

“ We have been nice to her for days now it’s time we step up our game, we need to think deep on how you going lay down sick on the bed to pretend like you are ill” Mrs Wood said and her phone rang, it was Mrs Thomas, she picked up the call.

“ Hi Mrs Thomas” Mrs Wood said.

“ I have a good news for you” Mrs Thomas said and Mrs Wood smiled.

“ Really! Tell me about this good news” Mrs Wood said.

“ Nathan said, he will like to see the girl and if he liked her then he  will pay you off” Mrs Thomas said and Mrs Wood smiled.

“ You should not worry about that he will like her” Mrs Wood said.

“ You have no time to waste again, you must present the girl to him in three days time” Mrs Thomas said.

“ Thank you so much, I will do that” Mrs Wood said and she end the call.

“ What did Mrs Thomas said the good news is?”Layla ask.

“ He said that Nathan said we can come with Chleo in three days, now we have no time to waste” Mrs Wood said.

“ I have a plan mum. I will pretend to pass out and you get a fake doctor, the fake doctor will say that I have kidney disease and the fake doctor will say that I need to be treated as soon as possible or else I will die” Layla said and Mrs Wood smiled.

“ Yes, you are right” Mrs Wood said and they both smiled staring at Chleo in the kitchen.

Sir,sir, canyouhear me?” I call out to the man trapped inside the vehicle. The airbag had deployed. He’s restrained by his seatbelt and remains motionless covered in blood. Wearing gloves, I reach in and feel for a pulse. It’s faint but steady. “Can you hear me? You’ve been in a car accident, sir. We’re going to get you out of here and take good care of you. Can you tell me your name?” His lips quiver, but no sound emerges. Blood covers everything, so it’s difficult to determine the source of the bleeding. I push aside the deflated airbag to get a better look. That’s when I catch sight of a gun holstered at his side. I recoil at the sight of it, but then remember I’m here to perform myFrom above, I hear rustling and see Nathan, the EMT assigned for tonight’s ride along, making his descent. “What’ve we got here?” he asks, carrying a stretcher board and neck brace. “Are they alive?” “Yes, I’ve got a steady pulse on a white male, adult, early thirties. His bruised lips form a half smile.“Nathan, is it true?” I say, leaning forward, whispering to him. “You’re Russian mafia?”“Done…nothing wrong.”I stare at him, but his eyes have slid shut again. No doubt the morphine is kicking in, mercifully easing his suffering. I struggle with what to do. I finally land on the fact that he’s innocent until proven guilty. If the cops have a case, they’ll make it and haul his Russian ass away. But he’s asking me to help him…what do I do?As if hearing my internal conflict, Nathan eyelids rise. “Framed,” he says, “I’m a businessman…graduated from…Cornell University.”Since when does the mafia attend Ivy League colleges? Who do I believe, him or the cops?“Look me up…” a slight smile touches his lips though his eyes remain shut. “Google me.”I chuckle despite the situation. “Believe me, I will, and if you don’t check out, the gun’s going straight to the authorities.”His tortured smile widens. “What…what’s your name?”The question catches me off gu

I meet his glass with mine. “Why thank you, Nathan. Maybe someday, when I have a social life, I’ll have a trophy husband onmyarm,” I say with laughter. Again, his expression falls. “Or, you could have me.” I pull back in my chair and stare at him. “We’ve known each other a whole ten days,” I chuckle. “How can you say things like that with a straight face?” “If one listens very carefully and watches for certain signs…you can learn all you need to know about a person in the space of one conversation. As a businessman operating within a very competitive environment, I must practice this skill on a daily basis to survive,” he says sternly. His smirk slowly returns. “You and I have had at least ten in-depth conversations, suffice to say, I know all I need to know about you.” I raise a brow at him. “All?” He chuckles. “All the important things. Regarding the minor details, that’s why we’re here tonight, so you can fill in the gaps.” I sit back and cross my arms over my chest. “Well, m

Is that so hard to believe?” For a moment, I’m deeply moved until… “Ah, is this part of your second date schtick? Invite the girl back to your place for an amazing gourmet meal prepared by your hand?” A shadow falls across his face. “I’ve never done this for anyone. Never even wanted to.” “Oh…” is all I can manage to say, sensing I’ve offended him. I attempt to lighten the mood. “Who knew Russian food could taste so amazing?” I take another bite. Nathan closes his eyes for a couple of seconds and takes a deep breath as if trying to calm his nerves. “What? Did you think we only ate gruel and stone-hard bread in Russia?” Uh-oh, this just took a turn for the worse. “No, of course not. Honestly, I never really gave the matter much thought. My heart clenches and my voice softens. “Who’s blood is it?”He laughs then. A cruel, awful laugh.“On that bullet? Mine.”I’m taken aback but I do my best to maintain composure. “I thought you said your dad gave that to you? Why did your father have a bullet necklace with your blood on it?”His countenance softens, and a glint of vulnerability pierces through his tough exterior. “When I was fifteen, I accompanied my father on a business venture. It was meant to be a routine deal, but those other guys got too greedy. The moment we set foot on their turf, all hell broke loose. John Luciano himself shot me, right in the chest.”“Is that the reason your family unleashed a hail of bullets within the sanctum of his private mansion? I remember hearing all about that in the news and thought it was just awful.”“His family, and every last blood relation he had. “As you know, I’m my father’s first son. First children usually have a lot riding on them, and in my family, it was no different. He had a lot of expectations for me. He wanted me to be the best because I was meant to be his legacy. His successor. Growing up, I had to be the best in school, the biggest, the strongest. He pushed me to exceed all his expectations, and I tried my best but it was never enough. My younger brothers have always been smarter than me. Hell, Topher’s a fucking genius.” He lets out a wry laugh.I hold my breath. I don’t say a single word because this is what I’ve needed all this time. For him to open up to me.
