Chapter Thirty

CHAPTER 30

After Maria left Luciano’s room, I followed her. Holding her hands we walked down the stairs together till we got to the floor. I went outside to the guard's room where the second in command was kept.

I spoke to the guard in charge and he gladly opened the door and let her out.

She looked up to me sadly and said “Thank you Elena. I'm sorry about how I spoke to you earlier”. Sincerely I didn't know if she meant it or not but all the same, I would not want someone like her who is ranked higher than me as a staff member to be punished because of the way she spoke to me. I would rather let it go, I didn't want to become a bad person.

I just looked at her and said “It's fine”. I spoke to the chief chef already and he agrees that you rest and resume work tomorrow. With that, I left her by herself to go to her quarter and rest.

I went back into the kitchen to find the chef preparing pasta for lunch.

I joined him and washed the veggies. I picked up a knife and began to cut out
