The Execution

"I love you, Chaol." she pressed her lips against his forehead. He gazed at her but he couldn't find any light and mercy from her bright tangerine eyes. "And farewell."

The woman's words were strikingly painful and difficult to hear. Before, she would always run to him and shower him with hugs and kisses.

But he never thought that the day would come that she will raise her sword against him and take his life instead.

Chaol had never once understood the feeling of dying. He had never experienced it. From the souls that he would comfort, they would always tell them how painful it was or how joyful it was for them to die.

It depended.

And now that today, he was fated to get the gist of what truly death felt like, he didn't think that his soul would be this terrified of closing his eyes to see nothing but the darkness of the empty void.

Years ago he wanted to die. He wanted to finally close his eyes and rest, but then, she came.
