Chaol found a boy in the woods.
It was on the 3rd of May, while the sun sets from the horizons when he found him. He was pale as snow, crouching beside the huge redwood, with his knees tucked against his arms. His eyes were fixed in a blank distance ahead of him. The young boy was flimsy and short. His eyes were dead and his lips were chapped and blue.
Chaol was not very fond of adopting children into his castle, but there were times when there was an exception. He would only invite them if he sees them fit to live and serve him.
He gently approached him and lowered himself to call out to him, softly.
"Hello there..."
"Get lost." the boy immediately spat at him. "Get lost or I will kill you."
"Unfortunately, you can't." Chaol mimics a sad face and sat beside him. "So, how did you die?"
"I'm not dead." he hissed at him.
"A half breed then? Interesting, I haven't talked to a mongrel such as you are, in years."
<It took many months before Chaol finally learned the little boy's name. He let him stay inside his castle but the other inhabitants weren't too happy about it."Othello!" the garden yelled from afar, holding the rake in his hands.Othello emerged from behind the shed, with his head lowered to the ground. He scratched the back of his nape and made the 'tsk' sound."Come here, boy." the gardener invited him.But Othello knew well that he wasn't going to be very friendly with him. He had broken the shovel of the gardener a few days ago and hid it behind the bushes."Othello." the gardener bellowed at him. "Would you care to explain what the hell is this?" he showed him the two broken pieces of the shovel in his hands. "How in the goddamn world did this break, Othello?"The shovel was snapped into two."I didn't do it." he lied to him."Your face says it all." the gardener hissed at him. "Why do you have to lie, goddamn it?"
Everyone was gathered near the fireplace, staring at each other’s faces as if they are in need of something to say. Yvonne whose body was covered with bandages stared at Othello with scorn on her face. Othello rolled his eyes at the woman.“Alright, now. It’s time for the both of you to apologize to each other.” Lana tells them with a strict voice. She was always the one in-charge after the gardener had left.Asty pinched Othello’s arm and encouraged him to do so and of course, he wasn’t able to deny it. With his brows furrowed in shame h looked at Yvonne and breathed. “Sorry.”The household nodded in surprise because it was their first time hearing Othello apologizing for his mistakes. Yvonne averted her eyes away and replied. “Yeah, same here. Sorry.”Chaol raised his brows at the two. He couldn’t tell if their reconciliation was genuine or it was merely an act. &l
"I don't deserve you." The count's words pierced upon her heart like an unexpected rejection. She felt every vein on her vibrate in mixed emotions as the male's words echoed upon her mind. Even with her gleaming sunset orbs, she saw how pained the count gazed at her. "I'm sorry I barged inside, please dress up. You'll catch a cold." She grabbed onto his sleeves and tugged them gently, halting his movements, midway. "What is it?" Asty clutched the blanket on her chest and lowered her head. "Please don't say that again." Chaol stared at her with an unverified expression of confusion and guilt. "What?" "Please don't say that you don't deserve me. I am just a mere commonplace woman who was lucky enough to be gifted by this blood that you sought. It isn't anything unique." "I'm not referring to that—" "And moreover, a woman like me shouldn't be praised highly by someone as magnificent and powerful as you." she co
Asty woke up to the sound of cogs and wheels. She only opened her eyes and lifted herself as the sun shone brightly from the window. She felt her whole body ache from soreness when she tried to stand up.Slowly making her way to fold the curtain, she finds a fancy carriage in front of the gate. She squinted her eyes to see more. Owl opened them and the carriage proceeded to park inside."A visitor?" she asked herself. She shrugged her shoulders and aimed for her bathroom to start her morning routine. When she was finished, she slips into her usual outfit and headed outside to see who the person in the carriage was. As Asty walked out of the right-wing, she saw Chaol standing above the staircase, as if anticipating someone's arrival. She ignored the male and continued to take the stairs down. The count stole glances at her as she descended. He was quite offended when the woman did not even bother to
As they were busy helping to prepare the meals in the kitchen, Asty's troubled mind was put to ease. It was a new day and therefore it is time for her to forget what happened yesterday. It was time for her to forget the embarrassment and humiliation that the countess had caused her. She shared a few terrible words about her appearance and style. Lana told her that she didn't need to listen to her, to which she agreed. She would never stoop down to her level and amuse her. "We're missing something." Lana whispered to her as he mixed the food she was cooking. "I'll go get it from the pantry. What is it?""No, I'll get it myself." Lana chuckled at her."No, it's fine. I can get it." "Are you sure?""It's just a favor I'm doing for you, Lana." she smiled at her. "Then would you please take two lemons, a pouch of raisins, and a stick of butter, please?""Coming right up!" S
There was a gentle knock on Asty's door. She slowly opened her eyes and lifted her head from the table. He hasn't noticed that she had fallen asleep from reading a book. Rubbing her eyes, the young woman frisked towards the door and opened it."Hiya! Good afternoon!" Yvonne called out to her a cheerful voice."Oh, hey Yvonne." she smiled at him. "Are your wounds okay, already?""Yeah they are." she grinned at her.Asty looked at her with a frown on her face, knowing that her brother that caused all of that pain to her friend. Yvonne places a hand on her shoulder. "Hey don't worry about it. I'm all good, besides, it's just his payback for how I used to beat him a lot back then, so it's all good."Asty gave her a smile and nodded."By the way, Chaol told me to call you. Your dress from the palace has arrived. Let's open it, quick!"A
"Ooh... What a wonderful dress you have there, Asthenosthene."Asty shifted her ice across the corner of the room only to see the countess looking at her with contempt on her face. She gave her a sly smile and continued walking forward."Black, how daring indeed. I don't remember the count buying you this expensive clothing."The young woman lowered her head and looked away. "This is a gift from the king, remember when I told you that he invited me to the ball?""Oh yes, the other day?"Asty slowly nodded."That's quite considerate of him. From the looks of these, I'd say they cost a good amount of fortune."The countess leaned over to the box and slowly traced her fingers across the soft, shimmering fabric. Her brows started to furrow knowing that her dress was much more extravagant and exquisite than hers. With the fake smile on her face, she looked at her. "Would you mind if I borrow these?" she asked her. "I think black would suit
"It is a beautiful evening, today, isn't it, Your Majesty?"The King's emerald orbs fixated at the shining horizons of night lights and simpers a rare smile. "Indeed."The humble maid beside him, who was placing flowery ornaments upon the pillars, turned pale, surprised at the royalty's response. Never in her life had she been greeted back by His Majesty. The humble maid smiled back at him and continued her work.King Vaughn Garland promenades throughout the palace, taking a look at how the final touches of the preparation were going on. With a calm and collected expression on his face, he frisked over to the maids who placed a few dishes on the vast, buffet table."Good evening, Your Majesty." the maids curtsied at him.Vaughn laid his eyes on the wide array of mouthwatering dishes, made by the palace's expert chefs."When you return to the staff room, tell the others that you will be joining the dinner tonight." he told them in a gentle vo
