MILA’S POV
Despite my racing heart, I kept on a straight face as the doctor explained my condition to Dominic. I couldn’t betray the fact that I was pretending to have lost my memory. When the doctor had checked my vitals earlier, I’d silently pleaded with him to play along with my ruse, and to my surprise, he agreed. He probably saw the desperation in my eyes. “So what happens now?” Dominic’s sharp question snapped my attention back to him. “Is there a way to get her memories back?” “Well…” the doctor hesitated, his gaze briefly flickering to me then back to Dominic. “For now, nothing can be done. And she mustn’t experience any form of stress whether physical or mental, otherwise her brain might be pushed into shock.” I was impressed by how effortlessly the doctor lied. His words were so convincing that even I might’ve believed him if I didn’t know the truth. Dominic let out a frustrated grunt before his piercing gaze landed on me, pining me in place. I shifted uncomfortably on the bed, my hands subconsciously fiddling with the fabric of my hospital gown as it felt like he could see right through me. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding as he finally averted his gaze from me and turned back to the doctor, his eyes narrowing into slits. “I don’t buy this bullshit about there not being a solution,” he snapped, and for a moment my body tensed as I feared he had found out the truth. The tension in my body intensified as he stepped closer to the doctor, and rested a hand on his shoulder. My eyes widened as he gripped the doctor’s shoulder so tightly, his knuckles almost turned white. “There has to be something you can do,” he drawled in a menacing voice. The doctor tried to remain calm, but I could tell he was holding in the pain by the way his jaw clenched. Dominic’s eyes were cold and he remained completely unfazed by the obvious discomfort he was inflicting on the doctor. “Run whatever tests, and prescribe whatever drugs you have to,” he ordered, his voice laced with a chilling edge. “Just ensure she regains her memory. I don’t care what it takes.” The doctor’s expression was strained as he instantly nodded. “Yes, of course. I’ll do everything I can.” Dominic released his grip on the doctor’s shoulder as his phone suddenly rang. “I’ll be back,” he muttered curtly before striding out the room to pick up the call, which I had no doubt had to do with something shady. As soon as the door closed behind him, I turned back to the doctor, who was now clutching his shoulder with his eyes shut and his lips pressed in a firm line. “Doctor, I’m so sorry,” I mumbled as a feeling of guilt tugged at my chest. “I hope it doesn’t hurt too much?” The doctor opened his eyes to look at me and his hand dropped from his shoulder. “I’m fine,” he brushed me off, a small, but tight smile appearing on his lips. “It’s nothing I can’t handle.” As he moved closer to where I sat on the hospital bed, his smile faded and was replaced with a grim expression. “Dominic Silvetti is very dangerous, and we have to be careful not to make him find out you’re pretending,” he mentioned with a hushed whisper. His eyes occasionally darted to the door, wary of when Dominic would return. “I’ll prescribe some pain killers which you’ll be taking under the guise of an amnesia medication,” he added. “That way he won’t be suspicious.” I nodded, even though his words barely quelled my unease. “Thank you for helping me, doctor. But the main reason why I’m pretending is so I can be free from him. I might lose my mind if I don’t run away soon.” The doctor’s brows furrowed in thought for a moment, then his gaze met mine and he leaned in a bit closer. “I have a plan,” he whispered so softly that I almost missed it. “Really?” My expression flickered with hope and curiosity. “Please tell me about it.” His eyes briefly darted to the door again before settling back on me. “My brother is a law enforcement officer, and he’s been trying to gather some dirt on Dominic for years, but Dominic is too good at covering up his tracks.” My eyes widened at the doctor’s revelation, but I held my tongue as he continued. “If you can help us gather the evidence we need to bring Dominic and his entire organization down, we’ll get you the freedom you seek. Are you up to the task?” I chewed on my bottom lip, my brows furrowing as I considered the doctor’s offer. The idea of spying on someone like Dominic was risky and very terrifying if I was being honest. But what other choice did I have? My sick father needed me, and If this was my best shot at freedom, I had to take it. With that shred of resolve surging through me, I glanced up at the doctor. “I’ll do it,” I declared with determination, despite the fear brewing in my gut. “Whatever it takes to get me out of Dominic’s clutches, count me in.” The doctor’s expression brightened and his hands reached out to pat my shoulders. “You made a very good decision,” he commended, then he reached into the pocket of his lab coat and pulled out a smartphone. “If my guess is correct, you don’t have a phone, so take this,” he extended the phone towards me. “It will be our way of communicating. But don’t ever call, we’ll always be the ones to call you.” I took the phone from him and clutched it in my hand as I nodded firmly. “Understood.” Then without wasting further time, I hid the phone underneath the pillow on my hospital bed. “And one more thing,” the doctor added, drawing my attention back to him. “This mission can’t be compromised. If Dominic finds out—” “Finds out what?” Dominic’s suspicious voice suddenly interrupted the doctor’s words and my breath hitched.MILA’S POV My head snapped up to see Dominic standing at the doorway with his head tilted as he watched us with narrowed eyes. I took a deep breath and tried to suppress the panic that was growing within me by steadying my expression. “It’s just something that has to do with my amnesia,” I tried my best to make my voice sound as small and innocent as possible. He hummed, and took slow steps towards us. The doctor instantly scooted away from my side and put a considerable distance between us. I blinked in surprise at how quickly his demeanor changed. It was almost as though he wasn’t the same confident person that was giving me instructions a few minutes ago because his expression returned back to the harmless state he sported before. His acting was good…almost too good, and it began to make me wonder if he had been completely honest with me or there was something else he held back. Could I really trust this doctor? “And why shouldn’t I find out about it?” Dominic’s qu
MILA’S POVMy brows furrowed as I tried to make sense of what Patricia said. “W-what do you mean?” I asked as I gulped down the unease crawling up my throat.“I mean…you have to be careful around here,” her grim tone rekindled my unease. “One mistake can cost you dearly.” She let the words settle in before crossing her arms. “Now,” her tone changed to a more neutral one. “Let's go over the rules of this club. Rule one; the customers are always right. You must do whatever they tell you, no questions asked. Rule two:” she raised two fingers. “Every single cent you make here, tip or not, goes back to the club. No exceptions.”My brows furrowed, and I opened my mouth to argue, but snapped it shut when she threw me a glare.“Rule three:” she continued. “Don Silvetti’s office is out of bounds, unless you’re summoned. And before you go in, you must knock three consecutive times, no more, no less.”“And lastly,” her voice became edgier. “You must respect your superiors, and that includes a
MILA’S POV “Done!” Sasha exclaimed, and leaned back with a satisfied expression. She clapped her hands together beneath her chin and looked at me like an artist admiring their finished masterpiece. My gaze hesitantly darted to the mirror, and when I finally looked, a gasp escaped my lips. My green eyes popped beneath the eyeliner, which was sharply drawn to give me an almost seductive cat eye. The makeup on my face was enough to enhance my delicate features, and my usually small lips looked fuller with the bold red lipstick painted on it. I bit the inside of my cheek as I turned to Sasha. “Don’t you think it’s a bit…much? It almost doesn’t look like me.” “That’s the point, girl,” Sasha rolled her eyes playfully as she placed a hand on her hip. “You’re not Mila the nervous chica anymore. You’re Melina the illicit bunny, so you have to look the part. Now, come on.” She motioned with her fingers for me to follow as she began walking away. I turned to see her headin
MILA’S POVSasha sighed at my question, and her carefree demeanor was replaced with something more serious as she turned to me, while Carlo got to work preparing the drinks. “Let’s just say they are…very prominent people in the mafia,” she whispered almost as though she was saying something forbidden.“They don’t come here unless it’s for a meeting with Don Silvetti, and the VVIP room is their regular meeting place.”My heart sank as I processed her words. A meeting with Don Silvetti? Did that mean I would have to see Dominic again? My pulse quickened and my nervousness returned in full waves, making my chest feel tight.Sasha must have noticed the change in my expression, because she reached out to lightly touch my arm.“You’ll be fine,” she assured, but it did nothing in calming my nerves. “All you need to do is serve them and stand by in case there’s anything else they’d need. MILA’S POV My head snapped up to see none other than Dominic striding into the room, wearing a black shirt and black pants with a gun holster strapped to his back. His dark hair sat lazily on his head and his sharp, gray eyes scanned the room until they landed on my kneeling form. His brows furrowed and his eyes seemed to darken, though his face betrayed nothing else. The room dropped a few degrees, and Matteo’s friends instantly straightened on their seats, their arrogant expressions completely dissipating at Dominic’s commanding presence. “Matteo? What are you doing?” He asked, his tone almost sounding bored as he stepped further into the room. “Ah, Dom! You’re here,” Matteo chuckled as he zipped up his pants and turned to Dominic. “Just trying to have some fun with this piccola puttana. She’s quite a looker, isn’t she?” Dominic grunted as he strode towards the main leather couch across from us and took a seat. His broad shoulders were relaxed, but there was somethin

MILA’S POV “Happy birthday babe,” Dane, my boyfriend of three years, engulfed me in a bear hug as soon as I stepped into the one bedroom apartment we shared. My body relaxed into his out of habit as the exhaustion from working at the bar all day weighed me down. “Thanks, Dane,” I managed a tight lipped smile as I hugged him back, the all too familiar scent of his musky cologne mixed with the stale scent of cannabis, tickling my nostrils. “You know how much I love you right?” Dane murmured against my hair before pulling back slightly to meet my eyes. “Yeah,” I mumbled, even though my words were a complete contrast to how I really felt. Dane always claimed to love me, but it never showed in his actions. I’d admit that things were rosy when we started dating, but after Dane lost his job, he became distant. I've been footing all our bills since then, despite already having a lot on my plate with my father’s medical bills. Dane let go of me and gestured towards the wobbl

DOMINIC’S POV The little minx blinked up at me with those green doe eyes, so wide and confused that I almost forgot why I was fucking furious. I’d been in the middle of an important meeting when my men called to inform me of her attempted escape and accident. I can’t explain the panic that gripped me as I stormed out of my meeting. I bet she doesn’t even know she has been unconscious for three days. Seeing her head wrapped in a bandage on the hospital bed, made my anger sizzle. What the hell was she thinking? Did she really think she could escape me? Especially after she hadn’t yet paid for all she did? My fists clenched as I closed my eyes, trying to rein in my anger. One thing I prided myself with was my ability to control my emotions. It’s what made me as formidable as I am today, but ever since I saw Mila again, that control has been tested severally. “Ow,” she winced as she tried to sit up, and I reached out to clamp down on her narrow shoulders.
