I didn't say a word.

He was flirting with me, no doubt. The bigger problem was that I didn't know whether he was lying.

"Well," I began, "I can't talk all day, can I?"

It earned a smile from him. "You have a lovely voice, Maxine. I completely enjoyed listening to that.” He said, going for another compliment.

I managed to give him a small smile in return “I’m glad you liked it." I replied.

"You know," he continued as he stood to his feet. He unfolded his hands from across his chest. "I think after listening to that, you deserve a reward."

"A reward? What would you give me?" I asked, looking up at him with curious eyes. I hadn't expected him to want to give me anything.

He walked over to the door with so much grace and stopped in front of it. “What would you like?” he asked.

I paused, hesitant. "Anything?"

He nodded. "Anything," he replied.

"Let me go," I replied without missing a beat. I saw the slight change in his expression and I realized I had ruined everything.
