EMMELINE

I stumbled into the kitchen, my heart racing with anxiety. I needed to find the head cook, the one who had the power to tell me everything about the food around here—who prepared Darius’s meals, who handled them, and where they stored the damn curry powder. That’s why I was here.

But when the cooks saw me, all eyes turned to me with shock, suspicion, and maybe even a hint of fear. I couldn’t blame them, though—there had to be a reason for their reactions. I wasn’t exactly dressed like them.

I paused for a moment, trying to keep my composure.

“Why are you here, concubine?” a woman yelled at me, the head cook by the look of her. She was in her late forties, but looked tough.

I plastered on a nervous smile, trying to look as clueless as possible. “Oh, hi! I, uh… I thought I was supposed to, you know, cook my own meals? I’m just a… you know… a slave like you guys, right?” The words slipped out without much thought. I cringed internally at the lie. But I couldn’t let them know

EMMELINEDarius tilted his head, and I knew I'd fucked up. His dark eyes narrowed so slightly. It was the kind of look that made my blood run cold, even though his expression remained calm. Too calm. Like he was mentally deciding how best to deal with me.What the hell had I just done? Blurted out my anger to a man who could probably snap my neck without breaking a sweat? I stumbled back, my palms suddenly sweaty. My heart pounded so hard I thought he might hear it. What was I thinking saying that out at him like I had a death wish?I swallowed hard. What would he do to me now? The calmness in his expression was more terrifying than if he’d yelled. He brushed imaginary dust from his suit.He rose to his feet, the movement slow and my breath hitched in my throat. He was coming closer. My mind raced, frantically searching for a weapon, anything I could use to defend myself. A lamp? A vase? Hell, I’d grab a goddamn pen and stab him if I had to. We were alone. This was my chance. I coul

EMMELINEI woke up with one thing on my mind: today is the day Darius dies.I couldn’t let myself think about what happened yesterday—the shopping, his so-called kindness, his defense of me. It was all bullshit. A carefully orchestrated act to mess with my head, to make me feel something other than hatred for him. But I wasn’t that stupid. He wanted to make me feel like I owed him something for treating me kindly. The only thing I owed Darius was death. And I planned to deliver. After slipping out of bed, I pulled on one of the dresses he’d bought yesterday. I hated the feel of it against my skin, but I couldn’t go back to those damn slave rags. The maids had already started whispering, assuming I’d been officially made his concubine. Let them think that. It would only make my plan easier.I headed to the kitchen, my heart pounding very fast. Everything I needed was already in place. Last night, I stole some curry powder and mixed it with the Greenshade I’d found yesterday. The poiso

EMMELINEThe entire estate was summoned before Darius.I stood beside him, every muscle in my body screaming to run, to hide, to do anything but stand there like a damned statue. My palms were sweaty, my breathing uneven, but I didn't dare move.I could feel the fear written on the faces of the kitchen staff as they lined up before him. They were all trembling, their heads bowed, eyes darting around as if the answer to their salvation lay on the floor. They didn't deserve this. They were innocent.I wasn’t.I was the one who poisoned him. Me. And now these people were about to pay the price for something they didn't do. Darius didn't immediately speak. Instead, he sat there, calm and composed, like he wasn't the one whose life had nearly been snatched away. His beta, Dawson, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as composed."Who tried to poison the Alpha?" Dawson's voice rang out like a gunshot. My stomach twisted violently. Cara stirred in my head, growling. ‘Tell them. Tell them now be

EMMELINEIt had been a day since Darius locked me in this damn room.I sat on the cold floor, knees pulled to my chest, staring blankly at the wall. My eyes were swollen from crying, and my throat was raw from screaming. Nobody had come to check on me, not even to throw a scrap of food my way.I was so tired—tired of everything.“Why am I even here?” I whispered to myself, my voice breaking. You’re stronger than this, Cara said in my head, her voice softer than usual.“Am I?” I shot back, bitterly. “Look at me, Cara. I’m a prisoner. A damn puppet for him to use whenever he wants. What’s the point of living if this is my life?”She didn’t answer. My gaze landed on the glass bottle sitting on the table. It would be so easy—just one sharp blow to the edge of the table, and it would shatter. And then I could end this miserable life of mine with just a cut at the right place. I stood, my legs shaking as I reached for the bottle. My hands trembled as I held it, my reflection distorted in t

DARIUS“Could I have been wrong?”I leaned back in my chair, fingers drumming on the edge of the polished wooden table. The thought had been eating at me ever since I saw her on that damn auction stage. She looked just like her.Molly.Is that even her real name or did she lie about that too?Her face, those eyes, the way she carried herself. It was uncanny. I didn’t want to believe it. Hell, I refused to believe it. But I couldn’t shake the memory.I was nine, trailing behind my father during one of his boring political meetings with the Lycan King. He got distracted, and I wandered off, finding myself in the garden of some grand estate. That’s when I saw her—spinning barefoot on the grass, laughing as if the world couldn’t touch her.She was... mesmerizing. That girl was a Lycan. The second daughter of King Carrington himself.Could it really be her? Could she have survived the attack? The reports were very clear—King Carrington’s entire family had been wiped out. No survivors. EMMELINEI stood outside his door, my heart pounding so loudly I thought it might give me away. The knife felt heavy against my back. I had tucked it under the thin waistband of my panties. I adjusted the transparent robe I’d stolen from one of the closets. It barely covered anything, but that was the point. To seduce him. The more distracted he was, the closer I could get. This was the night. I had one job—kill him. Nothing else mattered.I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Darius looked up from his seat by the window. His eyes widened slightly when he saw me, his gaze locking on my transparent robe and the body beneath it. I could feel his eyes linger. I shut the door softly behind me and let the robe slide off from my shoulders, dropping around my feet. I stood there in nothing but my panties, my arms hanging loosely at my sides to seem unbothered, though my heart was thundering in my chest. He didn't say a word, just leaned back in his chair. His jaw tightened as his

EMMELINEI woke up before dawn, staring at the ceiling like I had all the time in the world. My body felt weighed down, and my thoughts were all over the place, but my mind was made up. Killing Darius wasn’t an option anymore. It just wasn't going to happen. Fine. But that didn’t mean I had to stay here and let him mess with me. If I was going to die, at least it’d be on my terms, not his.I slipped out of bed, very quietly. No bags, no extra clothes—nothing to slow me down. Just me and my ridiculous determination.Cara, my wolf, turned lazily in my mind. “You really think this is going to work?”“I don’t need your doubt right now,” I hissed under my breath, pulling the door open just wide enough to slip through. The halls were strangely quiet, the estate still wrapped in darkness. I stuck close to the walls, staying out of sight from the few guards strolling around like they had all the time in the world to stop me.“Why don’t you just fight them?” Cara grumbled. “You’re a Lycan, Emm

DARIUS“Alpha, she is not in her room,” the guard said, his voice shaking as if he knew how much trouble this news would bring him.I set my glass of whiskey down, my fingers tightening around it until I thought it might shatter. “What do you mean, she's not in her room?” I growled.“No one has seen her, Alpha,” he stammered. “We’ve checked the immediate quarters. She’s… gone.”For a moment, I just stared at him, my mind working overtime to process what he’d just said. Gone? How the hell had she managed to pull that off?“Get the rest of the guards,” I ordered, my voice cold and clipped. “Search the estate. Every hallway, every damn corner. Don’t come back to me unless you’ve found her.”He nodded quickly and practically sprinted out of the room like his life depends on it—which, honestly, it might. I was left alone with my thoughts.Fifteen minutes later, the same guard came back with a group of others. Their faces were pale, and they looked like they’d rather be anywhere but here.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Kaelen’s face… his threats, his twisted ritual… and the terror of that night came rushing back. I tossed and turned in the dark, sweat cooling on my skin as memories of his venomous words and dark promises haunted my sleep. I was so tired of waking up drenched in fear, of being trapped in that endless cycle of horror. Finally, unable to bear another sleepless hour, I climbed out of bed.I wandered the quiet halls of the estate, my feet echoing softly on the cool stone floor. Every shadow seemed to whisper of the past, and every creak of the wooden beams reminded me of promises broken and lives lost. I didn’t know where I was headed; I just needed to get away from my thoughts. I walked aimlessly until I found myself in front of Darius’s room. The door was slightly ajar, the faint glow of lamplight spilling into the corridor. My heart pounded in my ears as I hesitated for a moment. I

I called a meeting with Sylas and the strongest warriors in the pack. We gathered in the war room.“Alright,” I started, my voice still a bit rough, but firm. “We need to talk about security. Kaelen was an inside threat, and we dealt with him. But his buddies out there…” I clenched my fist. “We can’t underestimate them. They helped him plan this, they probably expected him to succeed. They might try something else.”Sylas nodded, his expression serious. “Agreed, Alpha. We’ve increased patrols around the Estate borders, and we’re keeping a close eye on anyone who might be connected to Kaelen.”“Good,” I said. “But we need to do more. I want double the guards on the Estate grounds, day and night. Every entrance, every exit. I want eyes everywhere. And I want a rotation schedule so no one gets complacent.”“Understo

EMMELINE’S POV ♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎My feet felt heavy as I walked through the familiar halls of the Estate. Everything looked the same, but the air was thick with the lingering tension of what had happened. It was like a ghost of fear still floated around, clinging to the walls and furniture. My own body ached in places I hadn't even realized were bruised, a constant reminder of Kaelen's attack. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the ache in my chest, the raw fear that still flickered in my heart every time I thought about Darius. He was getting stronger, thank goodness. Seeing him lying there, so pale and still… it had been the worst moment of my life. I’d honestly thought I’d lost him. And the thought of it… it still made me want to throw up.As I walked, I noticed some of the servants and pack members who had been… well, *under* Kaelen's thumb, for lack of a better word. They looked nervous, their eyes darting around like they expected to be punished any second. Some

DARIUS’ POV★★★☆★★★My eyelids felt like they were glued together with dried blood and sweat. Every inch of my body screamed in protest as I tried to shift, but a soft weight on my arm stopped me. Emmeline. Her head was resting on the edge of the bed, her dark hair spilling over the white sheets. She looked so damn tired, but her grip on my arm was tight, like she was afraid I’d disappear if she let go.A wave of guilt washed over me. She shouldn’t have had to go through this. It was my job to protect her, and I’d almost failed. The memory of Kaelen’s sneering face and the cold steel of his blade flashed in my mind, followed by the searing pain in my side. I clenched my jaw, the anger bubbling up inside me despite my weakened state. That son of a bitch would pay.I managed a weak cough, and Emmeline’s head snapped up. Her eyes, red-rimmed and puffy, widened with relief. “Darius!” Her voice was hoarse, barely a whisper.“Hey,” I croaked, my throat feeling like sandpaper. “You okay?” St

EMMELINE’S POV♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎My heart leaped into my throat the second I saw the crimson stain blooming on Darius’s side. “No!” The word ripped from me, a raw, desperate sound. I wanted to run to him, to shield him, to somehow make the blood disappear, but his hand shot out, a silent command. “Stay back, Emmeline,” he grunted, his voice tight with pain.Stay back? How could I? He was bleeding, for goodness sake! My vision swam with unshed tears, and a cold dread coiled in my stomach. And then I saw him – Kaelen. That smug, hateful smile stretched across his face as he took slow, deliberate steps towards Darius. The sight of him, so pleased with himself, made my blood boil despite the terror gripping me.Darius, as stubborn as always, straightened up, his hand pressed against his bleeding side. He swayed a little, and my breath hitched. “You’ll die here, Darius,” Kaelen sneered, his voice laced with satisfaction. Then, he lunged. It happened so fast. One moment Kaelen was stand

EMMELINE♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎Ugh, these silver robes felt like they weighed a ton. Every step they made me take felt like dragging myself through thick mud. Weak and tired didn’t even begin to cover it. I was running on fumes, and those fumes were mostly made of sheer stubbornness and the tiny spark of hope that Darius would somehow, someway, find me.They shoved me into this room in the Estate that Kaelen had turned into his creepy ritual chamber. Firelight danced on the walls, making everything look all shadowy and ominous. And there he was, Kaelen, standing there like he owned the damn place, waiting for me. My stomach churned. I tried to keep my face blank, to not let him see how terrified I was, but it was hard. There were other men in the room with him, big and burly, and their presence just amplified the fear that was already clawing at my throat.Kaelen looked at me, a smug look on his face that made my blood boil despite my exhaustion.. “See? I told you she’d come willingly.” He sm

DARIUS’ POV★★★★★★★Seriously, these damn stab wounds still throbbed like a bastard drum. Every time I shifted, it sent a jolt of pain through my side, but I couldn’t stay still. Emmeline needed me. The image of her terrified face when Kaelen’s goons dragged her away kept flashing in my mind. That bastard wasn't going to mark her under the full moon. I won’t let that happen.Sylas fussed over me, trying to get me to lie back down, but I waved him off. “I’m fine,” I lied, the words catching in my throat. Fine? I felt like I'd been ripped apart and put back together with rusty nails. But compared to what Emmeline must be going through, this pain was nothing.“You’re bleeding again, Darius,” Sylas said, his voice laced with concern. Lately he’s been my closest friend, more like my right-hand man. He knew the way I loved Emmeline, knew how much she meant to me. “Doesn’t matter,” I grunted, pushing myself up to a sitting position against the rough bark of a tree. The forest floor was damp

EMMELINE’S POV☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆His roar shook the very air around me. I flinched, squeezing my eyes shut as the sound bounced off the walls of this… this prison. Vases shattered against the wall, the heavy wooden chair he’d been sitting on splintered into pieces as he hurled it across the room. I flinched with every crash, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. Darius’s failed rescue attempt had lit a fire in him that I hadn’t seen before, a wild, uncontrollable rage that was now directed squarely at me, even though I hadn't done a damn thing.“You stupid girl!” he bellowed, his voice thick with fury. I didn’t dare open my eyes. I just curled in on myself, wishing I could disappear, become invisible. His footsteps came closer, heavy and menacing. I could feel his presence looming over me. “Look at me!” he snarled, and I finally forced my eyes open. His face was contorted with rage, his eyes blazing with a dangerous light.“That… that idiot!” He yelled, and another crash fo

DARIUS’S POV☆☆☆☆☆☆☆“Darius?” She whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.“Emmeline,” I breathed, my heart aching at the sight of her. She looked pale and thinner. Her eyes, usually so bright and full of life, were clouded with fear.“How… how did you get here?” she asked, taking a step towards me.“Who's there!?”A guard appeared in the doorway before I could respond, his eyes widening in alarm. I could see his eyes narrow as he reached for his weapon.“Intruder!” he yelled, raising his weapon.“Get behind me, Emmeline!” I shouted, pushing her back. The guard lunged, and I met him head-on. He was strong, but I was fueled by adrenaline and pure, unadulterated rage. We exchanged a few brutal blows. I blocked his punch and drove my fist into his gut. He doubled over, groaning. I didn’t wait—I kicked him in the side, sending him sprawling to the ground, his weapon clattering away. But the noise had attracted attention. I could hear more guards approaching, their heavy footsteps poun
