EMMELINE

Jeremy staggered back, his eyes narrowing in pure disbelief.

"What the hell did you just say?" he asked, his voice low, dangerous.

I blinked innocently, my lips curved into a slow and deliberate smile. "Oh, nothing serious. I just meant that you'd die from pleasure tonight." I tilted my head slightly, pretending to be confused by his reaction. "Or… did you think I meant something else?"

His jaw clenched so tight I thought he might break his teeth. He took a step closer, his fists curling at his sides.

"How dare you?" he growled, his nostrils flaring.

I raised a brow, still feigning confusion. "How dare me? What exactly did I do wrong, Alpha?"

His face twisted in rage. "I don't know what the hell you think you are, bitch, but you're just a common concubine," he spat. "Nothing more. And I will bring you to your place."

Ah. There it was.

The ugly truth these men liked to throw in my face every chance they got.

I should have been angry—hell, I was angry—but I swallowed it down, b

EMMELINEFearful screams arose from every corner of the hall as everyone present flew into a frenzy. My heart felt like it was about to leap out of my chest as I staggered backwards from a mix of confusion and fear.Because everything had happened so fast, I barely had time to process anything. One second my father was officiating my mating ceremony, and the next he had flown to the center of the madness, fighting off the werewolves that were storming into our estate. WE WERE TRULY UNDER ATTACK!ON THE DAY OF MY MATING CEREMONY!All around the hall, combat had ensued with Lycans being cut down mercilessly and killed brutally. It was a bloodbath. I had never felt so much horror. Blood rushed through my ears as I looked around for Jonas, barely escaping the people zooming past me and causing a stampede. "Jonas!!" I screamed helplessly, fighting my way through the crowd and simultaneously struggling to avoid the silver bullets whizzing left and right. I couldn't believe that the best d

EMMELINE (MARY)Present Day“Hurry up with the drink, bartender! I don't have all bloody day!” A man seated at one of the tables in the small bar yelled at me. I nearly jumped out of my skin, slightly dizzy from the suddenness of it all. I realized then that I had zoned out. Again. As fast as my legs could carry me, I rushed out from behind the counter, balancing his order in one hand as I made for his table. I managed to get there without spilling anything. "Y-Your drink, s-sir…" I stuttered, keeping my eyes down apologetically lest I get into more trouble. "Give me that!" He barked, snatching it from me and shooting me a glare sharp. Shuddering, I headed back to my position behind the counter. It had been four months since I was employed at this bar, and still the job hadn't gotten easier. My life hadn't gotten any easier. That seemed like a more fitting conclusion. I still felt heavy and hollow, the hole in the chest never closing up completely. After the death of my family, I

EMMELINEI was locked up in the back of the van on it’s way to the slave house. Tears streamed down my cheeks as my new reality dawned on me. It was over for me. What could possibly become of my life once I started living in the slave house? That was, if such a life could be considered living.I wanted to scream my lungs out in desperation. The guards had made sure I had no means of escape by binding both my arms and legs tightly so that it was impossible to even move. Tears of frustration formed in my eyes again as I trembled in the back of the van. Things were by no means perfect, but at least I'd had some sense of stability. A job, a roof over my head, and plans to relocate as soon as possible. There were just a few months left. And now everything had been turned upside down. All my plans had crumbled into one meaningless blob of nothing. Perhaps I was cursed. Maybe happiness just wasn't something meant for me. Every time it seemed within reach, something happened that would bring

EMMELINEWhy did he buy me?This was the question that continued to resound in my mind all through the ride back to Alpha Darius' pack. After I'd been sold, some of his men had bundled me off the stage and taken me outside to a waiting car. I hadn't seen much of the Alpha because he was in another car.Even when we arrived at Fletch Pack, Alpha Darius did not say much to me. He just handed me over to two maids in waiting and ordered them to clean me up. Still blindfolded, I was taken to what I assumed to be the bathroom. It was only after I shoved into the bathroom that the blindfold was finally taken off. The women got to work immediately, scrubbing me thoroughly. It felt like a repeat of what had happened earlier at the slave trade. I didn't even bother to fight back this time. I was exhausted to the bone, so I just sat there and let them do their job. They were so harsh with it that I wondered briefly if they were doing it on purpose. I couldn't help but notice that the women wer

EMMELINEI couldn't move. My body felt frozen in place as the truth settled like a heavy stone in my chest. Darius had been part of the people who killed my family. The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. My mind spun, and I struggled to breathe, feeling the world close in around me."Take off your clothes," he said. His voice was so cold, it sent a shiver through my bones.I looked up at him, my eyes blurred with unshed tears. I couldn't let him see me break. Not now. Not after everything that had happened.I swallowed hard, trying to steady myself. "I.. have something to confess,"' I said, my voice barely a whisper.Darius raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing as he studied me, suspicion dancing in his dark gaze. "Speak," he ordered. My heart was pounding in my chest, but I pushed the fear aside.“I… I have an infection,” I said quickly, the lie tasting like ash in my mouth. It was the first thing that came to mind, a desperate attempt to buy myself some time, some way out o

EMMELINEI stumbled into the kitchen, my heart racing with anxiety. I needed to find the head cook, the one who had the power to tell me everything about the food around here—who prepared Darius’s meals, who handled them, and where they stored the damn curry powder. That’s why I was here. But when the cooks saw me, all eyes turned to me with shock, suspicion, and maybe even a hint of fear. I couldn’t blame them, though—there had to be a reason for their reactions. I wasn’t exactly dressed like them. I paused for a moment, trying to keep my composure.“Why are you here, concubine?” a woman yelled at me, the head cook by the look of her. She was in her late forties, but looked tough. I plastered on a nervous smile, trying to look as clueless as possible. “Oh, hi! I, uh… I thought I was supposed to, you know, cook my own meals? I’m just a… you know… a slave like you guys, right?” The words slipped out without much thought. I cringed internally at the lie. But I couldn’t let them know

EMMELINEDarius tilted his head, and I knew I'd fucked up. His dark eyes narrowed so slightly. It was the kind of look that made my blood run cold, even though his expression remained calm. Too calm. Like he was mentally deciding how best to deal with me.What the hell had I just done? Blurted out my anger to a man who could probably snap my neck without breaking a sweat? I stumbled back, my palms suddenly sweaty. My heart pounded so hard I thought he might hear it. What was I thinking saying that out at him like I had a death wish?I swallowed hard. What would he do to me now? The calmness in his expression was more terrifying than if he’d yelled. He brushed imaginary dust from his suit.He rose to his feet, the movement slow and my breath hitched in my throat. He was coming closer. My mind raced, frantically searching for a weapon, anything I could use to defend myself. A lamp? A vase? Hell, I’d grab a goddamn pen and stab him if I had to. We were alone. This was my chance. I coul

EMMELINEDarius won the hunting games today. Of course, he did.Apparently, he had won it multiple times over the years, and from the way the other Alphas were gathered around, admiring the dead bear like it was some legendary trophy, you’d think he had just slain a god.I exhaled slowly, watching him from a distance. He was awesome, I had to admit. And not just because he had won the stupid hunting games… again. But because he had saved my life and I should probably be more than grateful. I sighed, picking at a loose thread on my robe. If he had been even a second late, I would have been nothing more than bear food. I shuddered, the image of that bear’s snarling face flashing in my mind. I didn’t want to think about it. It was like something out of a nightmare. A nightmare Darius had pulled me out of. My arrows barely did anything to that beast, and it was charging straight at me when Darius appeared with his gun and—boom—dropped it like it was nothing.I glanced over at him agai

DARIUS“Yesssss!"The scream sliced through the air, and reached me instantly.. My whole body tensed.Emmeline.I know that voice anywhere. And right now, it sounded like she was either being murdered or winning a damn war. There’s no in-between with her. Panic slammed into me. Is she in danger? Is someone hurting her? My mind ran through the possibilities—an attack, a rogue animal, or worse. Before my brain could even process another thought, I was already moving, my legs moving faster than my mind. Branches snapped under my boots as I sprinted in the direction of her voice. I asked her to stay back if she wasn’t cut out for this but her usual stubborn self refused. I just hoped she was not in any danger. If someone so much as touched her, they’re fucking dead. No warnings. No second chances. I would make sure they suffer dearly.I rounded the corner, pulse hammering in my ears, ready to tear into whoever—And I stopped dead in my tracks. The scene in front of me was not what I

EMMELINEThe forest had a way of making you feel small. A way of making you feel like you were just another part of its sprawling, untamed life — insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But today, I wasn’t going to be the prey.I was the predator.Few months ago, my entire family was killed before my eyes, treated just like one of the animals in this forest.Today, I would have the chance to exact my revenge. The air was crisp, the scent of damp leaves and earth filling my lungs as I moved through the dense forest. I wasn’t here for the sport like the others. I wasn’t here for fun.I was here to hunt. Not for birds, not for boars, not for bears.I was here for something far more dangerous. The rules were simple—birds were worth five points, boars twenty, and bears fifty. Most of the participants stuck to the easy prey, aiming for birds to rack up quick points without much effort. A handful of the braver ones had gone after boars. But me? I had my own prey in mind.I gripped my b

EMMELINEThe morning of the hunting festival arrived, and all I could think about was how badly I wanted to kill someone today. The whispers started the moment I stepped into the room. Soft at first, but growing bolder with every step I took.I felt their eyes crawl over me, studying, judging, wanting to figure me out. It was nothing new.I sat beside Darius, dressed in an elegant gown that clung to my curves just enough to make a statement. My hair was pinned up with a few loose strands framing my face, and I smiled politely as the chatter around us filled the open courtyard. That smile? Oh, it was all fake—nothing but an act. Forcing it took effort, trust me. But with all these vultures circling, they expected the performance. Like a well-trained puppet, I had to play along.“She’s absolutely stunning," I overheard someone whisper. "I wonder how Alpha Darius found her.”"That dress must have cost a fortune," another voice muttered. "Darius must shower her with gifts."Yeah, right.

EMMELINEI was sitting in Darius’s room, waiting for him to return. My foot tapped impatiently against the wooden floor as my mind spun with questions. The moment the door opened, I was on my feet, arms crossed, my eyes locked onto his."The Alphas—Why the hell were they here?" I demanded.Darius barely reacted. He shut the door behind him and loosened the first few buttons of his shirt. "Relax, Emmeline.""Relax?" I scoffed. "You just saw those ruthless Alphas here. Do I look like I’m trying to get myself killed? I certainly don't have a death wish, Darius."Darius sighed, stepping toward me. "They came to remind me about the annual hunting festival."I blinked. "...Annual what?"He smirked at my reaction. "It’s an annual festival where several Alphas from different packs come together for games—hunting, shooting, combat, and more."I frowned. "So it’s basically a testosterone-fueled pissing contest?"Darius chuckled. "Something like that.""And when is this happening?""In three day

EMMELINEAfter what Lydia did, I expected to be stuck in bed for weeks, maybe longer. But Lycans heal fast, and despite the pain, I was already moving around like nothing had happened. Still, I was cautious. Getting stabbed wasn’t exactly something I wanted to relive.Darius had been hovering around me more than usual, watching, making sure I didn’t push myself too hard. He hadn’t said much about Lydia since throwing her out, and honestly, I didn’t care. That bitch was lucky I hadn’t gotten my hands on her first. This morning, though, something was different. Darius seemed… excited?“Get dressed,” he had told me after breakfast, a rare smirk tugging at his lips. “We’re going somewhere.”“Where?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.“You’ll see.”“Why do I feel like you’re kidnapping me?”He just shook his head and chuckled. “You can thank me later.”So, here I was, sitting in the car next to him as he drove us to God knows where.“Are we almost there?” I asked after about ten minutes of silen

DARIUSThe moment I heard what happened to Emmeline, I didn’t think. I just ran.By the time I reached the clinic, my heart was hammering against my ribs. My mind screamed at me to prepare for the worst, but when I saw her lying there—alive, breathing—I finally exhaled. The doctor, an old friend of my father’s, had treated her. He knew. Of course, he knew. But he was loyal, and I trusted him to keep her secret.I sighed, rubbing my temples. Lydia. What the fuck was she thinking?I didn’t have time to figure it out because the doors to the meeting room burst open, and there she was. Lydia, flanked by a guard, her face blotchy from crying.Crocodile tears. She staggered forward and dropped to her knees like some tragic heroine from a play.“Save the tears, Lydia,” I said, not in the mood for whatever act she was about to pull.“I—I don’t know what came over me,” she sobbed, lowering her head, voice trembling like she was actually sorry. “I lost control.”I folded my arms. “You stabbed h

EMMELINEI just wanted to eat. That was it. Just a quiet breakfast, a little peace before the day truly started. But, of course, peace and I weren’t exactly on speaking terms. The kitchen smelled like fresh bread and spiced meat, the kind of scents that made my stomach growl. I grabbed a plate and started piling food onto it, my focus entirely on the meal I was about to enjoy. For once, I was trying not to think about Darius, or Lydia, or the fact that I was surrounded by people who either hated me or barely tolerated my presence.I turned to leave, but the moment I stepped toward the door, I heard the sharp click of heels against the stone floor.Lydia.Of course.I sighed before I even turned to face her. She stood there, arms folded, eyes raking over me like I was something disgusting she’d just stepped on."You’re not supposed to be in here," she said, voice dripping with condescension.I rolled my eyes, already tired. "And yet, here I am."Her nostrils flared. "You’re getting too
