It’s never enough. This is what Daniel believes in. According to him an insatiable hunger is the key to success. And it was his hunger to get more that fuelled him to take his company to new heights. No wonder, he graced time to time on the cover pages of many business magazines and sometimes fashion’s too. Daniel may look like a Greek God but he is actually a devil in disguise. He is a hungry devil who never gets enough. His subordinates fear and respect him, his competitors envy him, girls fantasize him, and the youngsters aspire to be like him. Not being an easy person, people called him names. People called him ruthless, selfish, controlling freak, psycho and what not. He was all of them but he was more than that too.
“Get this done by EOD,” Daniel orders his secretary. He has a cigarette sitting between his fingers and the legs are stretched on the table crossed. He throws the file towards Fiona and gestures her to leave. The man puffs out a cloud of smoke and closes his eyes. A minute had hardly passed by when Steve entered his office.“Look at you always smoking your life away?” asked Steve his best friend and COO of the company. He takes a seat across from him. “What do you want Steve?” Daniel says irritatingly before taking another drag off the cigarette. “Nothing. Just wanted to come and say Hii” Steve waves his hand. Daniel arches his brow and say “Hii, now leave.”Steve chuckles and says “You are an asshole. I hope you know that.” Daniel smirks on his remark. “Why are you visiting that small town?” Steve asks while leaning forward. The question wipes the smirk off his face and he takes his feet off the table. “To finalize the deal,” he explains and turns sideways. He places his right ankle on his left thigh and stubbs the butt of the cigarette in the ashtray.“You really think I’ll buy that,” Steve frowns. “The CEO of formidable Smith Enterprises flying to a town to buy a company that apparently is taking its last breath? The question wipes teh smirk off his face. “I see potential in that company,” Danny has his eyes fixed on the ground. “Seriously Danny? That Company? Okay. It seems you have made up your mind. I won’t stop you. Do whatever you wanna do,” with that he gets up and leaves.Daniel gets himself up and walks up to the balcony. He lights another cigarette and leans on the railing watching over the city. He recollects the memories of his mother who left him two years ago. He remembers the promise he had made to his mother. He had promised her to protect her saviour. She had made him promise to stand by the family of Uncle Hemsworth’s who took her in when she ran away from her abusive foster family. The uncle not only gave her shelter but also loved her like his own children.Uncle Hansworth had kissed goodbye to the world many years ago but his family was still there in Springdales. After his mother’s demise, Daniel did some research on the family and learned that they run a company in Springdales which didn’t appear to be in a good condition. He decides to keep an eye on the family from afar. However, after a couple of years he steps in to save the family from going down in a financial crisis by buying their company. He had planned on returning the company back to Hemsworths. And now why was he going to Springdales when his subordinates could have handled this work just fine? Well, the reason again is his mother. His mother belonged to Springdales and this is where she met his father Blaine Smith. Her mother had told him a lot about that town. A smile used to adorn her face whenever she talked about Springdales and her good old days. That place was special for his Mom. He wanted to see what was so special about that town.He closed his eyes and let a gust of wind touch his face. Tomorrow he was flying to Springdales. A knock on the door breaks him apart from his revire. He turns around and finds his father standing on the door.“Are you planning on spending your entire day here clinging on the railing?” his father questioned. “Yeah, it’s better than clinging on people and breathing down their neck,” Dan answered. “ Come in,” Blaine says. Daniel comes back to his office. “About tomorrow, I still think that going to Springdales and buying that good for nothing company is a big waste of time and resources. It is going to put a dent on our reputation. And as if that was not enough you have decided to spend a week there? Why didn’t you tell me about it?” Blaine puts it plainly.Dan sits in his chair and gives a bored expression. “I didn’t feel like telling you. I make my own decision.” Blaine is furious “I know why are you going there. It’s because of Julia. Isn’t it?” he knits his brow that accentuates his anger. “ I have been running this business for the last 8 years. I have taken this company to new heights that is impossible to touch for our competitors. In short, I am running this company far better than you did. So, don’t ever give me a lecture on how to run business. I am buying that company because I want to,” Daniel speaks in a stern tone.Blaine looks him in the eye for a minute and then leaves without uttering a word.Daniel didn’t have a good relationship with his father. He had been close to his mother. He had seen his mother spending most of his time alone whereas his father remained out working. He had witnessed his mother crying in silence whereas his father engaged in celebrations and parties. It was not lost on Daniel that even though his parents were with each other, they had stopped being for each other. Their trampled marriage had tormented him too. He hated to see his mother cry and to distract her from his pain, he would bring up Springdales in their conversation. And that would lit up her face just like that. After calling it a day, he came back to his mansion and started packing for Springdales. He lived alone. Dan had shifted here right after his mother’s demise. He didn’t want to live under the same roof as Blaine. His father used to remind him of the pain his mother had endured. After packing, he went to his study room and started reading some business book. That was the routine. Coming home, getting fresh, have dinner, and then reading a book before going to bed. Even though he was the most eligible bachelor of the country with tons of money in his bank account, he didn’t have any girl in his life. It’s not that he is a virgin. Girls drooled after him and sometimes he used to fuck them to let the steam off. But he never felt anything for anyone. He had never fallen in love. He had planned to never fall in love. But does plans ever work? The springdales was going to unleash a new devil in his life. Wanna know what’s the name of that devil---Love!!!He came very late last night. And for the first time in these last two years, he didn’t torment her in any way. He didn’t curse her for being a burden to him. Or slapped her hard for making tasteless food. His mind was occupied with something. Perhaps something from his work. Whatever it was, his ignorance brought her relief. He didn’t eat the dinner either. He must have had it in his office. He was talking to someone on the phone when he entered. “Yup. I need the preparation to be at its best. I can’t let this opportunity slide man. So just work your ass off” She heard him talking about some celebration that was going to take place in his office tomorrow. What she could gather from his conversation was that someone very important was going to visit his office tomorrow. She thanked her star and the visitor whose arrival had kept her monstrous husband occupied and spared her a night without amy sort of torture. After confirming that he was not
She hesitantly placed her hand in his. Daniel held her hand firmly and captured her gaze with his. “Same here, Mr. Smith,” it took everything in her to utter these words. There was something about him that didn't seem right. Even after exchanging the pleasantries, he didn’t let go of her hand. She tried to pull it back but he didn’t let up on his hold. She was confused. Before her mind could draw any conclusion, he let go of her hand. He freed her from his grip while fixing her with a mysterious smile. She retracted immediately and lowered her gaze. “Hope you are enjoying your time here, Mr. Smith,” Michael said in his sweetest tone. “I am loving it,” Daniel replied while keeping his eyes on Ash. “I am glad. It took us more than a month to put it together. I am pretty sure you are going to enjoy your stay here” Michael said proudly. “I am glad. I came here,” he again gave a cryptic answer. Ash finally looke
Ashley?” He said while tying his robe. His dark brown hair was wet and some of the strands were falling over his forehead, making him look sexier somehow. The man never stopped looking delectable even while coming out of the shower. She shook her head to get rid of these thoughts. Wasn’t he at the party? She wondered. What is he doing here? She should have knocked before getting in.He arched his brow in anticipation of an answer but Ashley seemed to be too lost in her daze.“Are you alright?” He questioned in a concerned tone while approaching her slowly. He halted an inch away from her. It was his close proximity that broke her away from her trance. She blinked a few times to collect herself and recall why she was here.Umm...actually...my..my husband…..I was looking for him,” On instinct, she took a few steps away from him. The man evidently didn’t like her answer as a frown settled on his face.“In my room
Eyes are the window to one’s soul. You search eyes to find what is kept in the heart. Ashley had done it too. Not that she wanted to. But the urge to explore those ocean-deep pools was too strong to ignore when her blue orbs collided with his green ones. There was gloom, pain, and loneliness in those bright eyes. But why? He has everything one could dream of. Wealth, status, power, and looks. Then why his eyes were claiming otherwise. As if he was also deprived, just like her.Whatever happened last night was still fresh in her mind. She kept tossing and turning in the bed trying to decipher the mystery named Daniel. The look that Daniel gave her was unforgettable and heart-stirring. And what happened in her suit confused her even more. Daniel is fully aware that she is married so why would he do something like that? Why he looked so concerned about her injuries. His unexpected behavior had shaken her to the core. She was trying to make a sense out of it.The sun ros
She had shrugged off his weird behavior last night assuming that is how rich people react. However, the emotions she saw in his eyes still remained an enigma. Today also, his intense gaze on her, even for a few seconds, had set her insides on fire. She reached home immersed in her thoughts. The dinner was ready. Ashley went to the bathroom to prepare for his bath. Michael had beaten her a lot of times for setting the water temperature wrong. Ashley was in two minds whether to tell Michael about her today’s encounter with Daniel. She gulped hard when a string of hard knocks pebbled on the door. She knew he was back. Ashley sprinted to open the door. Her breath hitched when she saw her husband. It wasn’t difficult to figure out that he was seething with anger.Another minute the whole room got filled with a loud thud as she laid on the floor with her hand on her cheek. Michael had slapped her. “I have been knocking at the door for hours. What took you
AshNights starred with agonyDays beamed with sufferingThis is what he had gifted herIn the disguise of a vow and a ringShe was least concerned about her physical injuries as it fades with time but the inflictions on her heart were what made life unbearable. Walking on her two legs seemed like an unrealistic task for her after what she was put through last night. Her husband was a monster she was cursed to spend her entire life with. If only she had seen his true color before their marriage.Love was hurled out of the window a long time ago. Now hatred and frustration sat in its stead. Ashley feared him and he despised her. Despite their toxic marriage, none of them uttered divorce from their mouth. Ashley didn’t because she feared the outside world would be crueler to her and she wouldn’t be able to fend for herself. Michael didn’t because he would not be able to find a slave-like Ashley again.
AshShe took a painkiller before heading over to the graveyard. Her body was still aching but the tug to visit her aunt was too strong to avoid. As she lacked enough money to take the bus she had to walk to the place which took her half an hour to reach over. The constant walking intensified ache in her legs.Mrs. Huntington didn’t have many visitors. Her husband died twenty years ago and she didn’t have a child either. So, the only person who used to visit her grave sometimes was Ash except for a middle-aged woman whom Ash met four years ago at the same place. She said that Mrs. Huntington was her best friend and that she couldn’t attend her funeral due to some personal reasons. By her appearance, she seemed to be hailing from an affluent family. Her warm nature and beautiful smile reminded her of her mother. She felt nice being around her.Her train of thoughts came to a halt when she saw a bunch of tulips hugging Mrs.
ASHThe mere sight of Michael was enough to send shivers down her spine. He came back home bearing shocking news for her. His bemused smile and relaxed demeanor told her that he was in a good mood but that didn’t mean she was safe. For him, Ashley had reduced into a plaything. He raped and beat her whenever he would feel like it. Much to her relief, nothing catastrophic befell on her that night as Michael was too happy to pay her any heed. The next morning, on the breakfast table, he finally broke the news to her. Ashley was in the kitchen washing dishes when her husband called for him. She ran out to him in an instant as she knew how much he hated waiting.“Tonight Mr. Smith is going to have dinner with us at my house. So, you better put your best into preparing the dinner. A mistake and I will break all your fingers” he growled at her while munching on his breakfast. She nodded as fear crept up. Why was he coming to their house? A wave
