Things have been different since Mirabella was diagnosed with Leukaemia, there was no one to rile Michal anymore. She missed Mirabella, she missed the cheerful and playful Mirabella, she missed her troubles and everything and her one prayer everyday was for Mirabella to get well soon.
Four weeks since school resumed and she had missed so much, she couldn't go back to school leaving her sister alone in the hospital. The doctor had insisted they stayed in the hospital for the treatments.
Catherine took a month off from work to take care of her daughter, she had failed a lot but she was ready to right her wrongs again. Jerry had been buzzing her phone with hundred of messages and calls but she told him they needed a break, a break to amend wherever she's lacked.
She realised a little too late that Jerry was a total distraction to her and a hindrance between her daughters and her, but now she was willing to let go to win her daughter's loThe cloud was dark, it looked like it was about to rain. Mirabella stood by the window and stared outside the breeze blew heavily across the window side and she shivered she went back to lay on her bed. They were two other patients in the ward that just laid hopelessly on their beds she stared at them and refused to be bedridden. She'd try to fight for her life even if she was getting weak, she won't give up just yet.Michal was in the room with her sister and Catherine went to get food for them at home."Are you still mad at mom?" Mirabella asked."Mad?" Michal directed her gaze on Mirabella. "I was never mad at her." She lied."I know you are Michal." She scratched her hair, her long hair was now the definition of short and scanty she had lost some hair since she began Chemotherapy.Catherine walked into the room, talk of the devil. The girls stopped with their conversation when
"It all started when your father, Derek returned from the states." Catherine began, there was no need to hide anything from Michal she was old enough to understand."May his soul rest in peace.""Amen." Michal whispered."We didn't know each other till that dinner night my dad organised for both families. I was in my final year in school then and that was the first time I saw your father." She smiled, she could recollect how she stole glances when he was eating, he was really cute and every lady would slay to be with him but Catherine just admired his looks and nothing more."What happened on that dinner night?" Michal asked."Nothing much happened, just an introduction between the children of the two families.""So you met dad that night?""Yes, he was really handsome, he was clad in a white suit that had black lines drawn all over it, his manly cologne filled the
Things have gone back to normal since Michal and her mother had a heart to heart talk.Mirabella noticed the change and one could tell she was happy about it, she begged Michal to go back to school. Its been a month already and she had missed so much but she didn't care all she cared about was her sister's quick recovery.____________________________________________?Back in school, things weren't same for Hammed. He would stare at Michal's empty seat and stare away his mind was always drifting back to the last conversation they had, it was no longer a new news that he missed her terribly. If only Mirabella would get well and she'd resume back to school.Lekky was the only one occupying their seats, she had refused to let anyone share the space with her she knew Mirabella would come back to take up her space someday.Ruth was glad Michal has not been showing up, to her it was a big opport
He was wandering the hospital wards looking for a room that was described to him over the phone,He stopped a nurse and asked for directions, he thanked her and left afterwards. He stopped in front of a room and knocked at the door that was left ajar, he entered after being ordered to come in, he closed the door and walked towards the beside. He looked round the room and saw two other patients that weren't opening their eyes, their guardian sat next to them with worried looks on their faces. It was a typical children emergency ward, he sat down and smiled at Mirabella's sleeping face. She was really cute."How's she?" He asked."I don't really know Jerry." Catherine replied, she was really stressed out and one could easily detect she was from the look on her face."She'll be fine." He said, Catherine just smiled she heard that always. 'She'd be fine.' "Catherine, how are
The doctor called Catherine into her office and had a talk with her, in the middle of their conversations she broke down."Doctor please save my daughter." She begged, there was no other way she knew her daughter could be saved."Pray for her ma'am." The doctor told her. "We're trying our best as doctors but there is no improvement. Like I told you before, the cancer has really affected her before it was detected, she's been holding on for long and now its like not treatable anymore.""Can we fly her abroad for treatments?" She inquired."We have the best doctors in this hospital, most of them were trained abroad so if the doctors in this hospital can't find a solution to the problem on ground. I'm afraid it can't be treated abroad. If the Leukaemia was still at the first stage, it'd have been easily treated but now ma'am your daughter is battling with the final stage of Leukaemia and one out of hundred survives this." She explained to Catherine."She's just a kid, doctor please don't
As promised she resumed back to school on Monday morning, nothing have changed about Brainhood Academy it was still same air, same energy and same colours. She walked elegantly towards her classroom and greeted the few junior students that cared to acknowledge her on the corridor that led to her class, she entered the classroom and there was a suddenly silence."Michal!" Her classmates yelled. "How's Mirabella? How are you doing? Where have you been? We're so sorry about Mirabella, hope she gets better soon." Were the words that echoed in her ears as she walked to her seat."Thank you everyone." Were the words she managed to mutter, the questions were too many for her to begin with."Where is Hammed?" She asked Rhoda, the girl that sat in the front seat."I don't know." She shrugged her shoulders and continued writing, Michal felt Ruth's eyes on her but she didn't budge she just minded her business and did her things. She dashed out of the classroom and was heading to the laboratory w
They got under the almond shed and sat down at the deserted chair that has been there before either of them got admitted into the school.Michal stared into space and Hammed watched her."Why are you mad at me?" He asked when she still refused to talk to him."Try to figure out the reason." She said."I can't think of anything." He racked his brain but nothing was coming forth. "Wait!" He snapped a finger. "I guess its because I've not been to the hospital to see you." He said looking at her apologetically. "I'm really sorry, I have been so so busy.""Hammed its not that." She moved away from him."Then its what?" He was more confused now, he moved closer to her."You told Uncle Daniel you like me, he might start suspecting things between us." She said shyly."Wow? That?" He burst into laughter.Michal brought her eyebrows together and wrinkled her forehead in confusion. "Why are you laughing, is it funny now?" She hissed and he laughed again."Whatever.""How's Mirabella?" He asked, Mi
Days passed swiftly, and as the days passed she got weaker. The doctor called Catherine into her office again, and told her "If after this surgery, I mean the bone marrow transplantation she doesn't get better. I wouldn't want you to panic, I'd just advise you to be with her and make her last days a happy and memorable one. Right now, she's left with very little strength and she fighting strongly for her life." The doctor told Catherine, she couldn't move her feet, her teeth were glued to her tongue.'Would she lose her daughter?' Was the one question her brain could process. She stared at the doctor with no expression on her face, she was not ready to lose anyone again, she sobbed silently thinking of the impending danger she sobbed out loudly."Please save my daughter." She begged, the words she said every time. She thought of Mirabella's smiling face and gnashed her teeth in pains. "I don't want to lose her."

Five years later. The twins were running round the large compound, Catherine tried to stop them but they didn't listen to her. They were adamant sometimes, She stood by the door post and watched them play, she knew she couldn't force them to come to her."Mom." Harry cried out, "Mommy." He ran towards his mother."Whats wrong Harry?" She asked."I fell down." The little boy winced."If you had answered when I called you earlier you wouldn't have sustained this wound." She scolded him and he just pouted his lips."Won't you treat me mommy?" He whined and she frowned at him. "Will you stop being a stubborn boy and listen to mommy next time?" She asked and he nodded his head."Mommy, Jerry won't stop playing too." Harry said."Jerry, come over here." He ran to meet his mother immediately, the twins were so iden
A year later. He called her to meet him in the house, she rushed there cos of how his voice sounded on the phone. When she got to his apartment she opened the door swiftly, and took the first step in, when her phone beeped. She looked at the screen and it was a message from him."Check the table, you'll see a tiny paper. Read its content and do whatever that's in there. Love, Hammed." She did as instructed, she picked the paper up and looked at it,"Go to the kitchen and check the first counter by the right." Were the words scribbled on it, she sighed and gently, walked towards the kitchen.'What's Hammed up to now?' She thought. She got to the kitchen and checked the first counter by the right on it was a love card, she picked it and read through it.A tiny piece of paper was attached to it, she read out what was written o
Michal was trying so hard to rehearse with her crew members, they had a performance the next day."We're making progress." She beamed."Yes Mira but there are still some things that needs to be taken care of." The choreographer said, they referred to her as Mira."Things like what?" She asked him impatiently."Your steps, you are not getting it correctly." He replied."Really? Did you just notice that? Do you realize the show is tomorrow, and you're just bringing my attention to this?" She panicked."I know, but we can still make you get the steps correctly before tomorrow." He smiled gently, she frowned and told him to get back to work, knowing they'd have to overwork themselves again. They started rehearsing again, her PA came inside the dance studio and gave her the phone. She halted and picked the call."Hello, Mira on the line." She s
The following week after the concert was Mirabella's birthday.Lekky, Hammed, Michal, Catherine and Jerry stood in front of Mirabella's tomb. Its been eight years already, Michal and her mother always made sure they visited the tomb twice every year. Nothing had changed so far, the cemetery was still usually quiet though few more tombs have been added.Mirabella's tomb stood in the middle of the the many tombs that was there, her name was boldly scribbled on the plank that was painted black. It was her birthday and they all decided to honor her by visiting her tomb.Lekky just arrived from school, so she met up with Hammed and Michal."It's been eight years already and it feels just like yesterday, if you were alive you'd have clocked eighteen today but I know wherever you are now, you are happy and Mira, I don't want you to be disappointed I didn't get to follow that path we both tread before you left me. Mira, I'm now in the university studying law, yeah, I got the interest to study
The hall was so large, chandeliers scattered across various sides, the chandeliers beamed with lights of different colors. It was an award night for all the big and popular artists in the country. She was there standing on the stage with a mike in her hand, she wore a gray gown made from silk, it hugged her curves and stopped at her knees, her braids fell beyond her shoulders making her look so elegant. She balanced on the stilettos that fitted her legs perfectly and her face was plastered with smiles, she was happy she just won an award for the best music artist in the Star Awards. She lifted the award that was carved in a glass up and beamed with satisfaction, she worked hard to get there."Good day everyone." She held the mike up and spoke."Mira, Mira, Mira." The crowd chanted, she knew she was loved. Her music was loved too."Thank you everybody," She spoke into the microphone again but the incessant chanting from the audience wouldn't let her be heard audibly enough. "Can I have
Michal finally graduated from the uni as the best in the department of biochemistry, it wasn't a dream come true but she was glad she was able to barge a degree in the uni.Uni stress was gone, Jerry and her mother attended her convocation and they were so proud of her.Uni was stressful, she met with a lot of people that triggered her love for music, she started doing it on a low key.She was still in touch with Hammed, there were times he'd call her just to complain about the whites to her, she'd laugh it and tell him to mind his own business there.Catherine got pregnant a year after her wedding with Jerry but lost the baby to miscarriage, the doctor told her she was weak to carry a child and that she had zero chances of giving birth later in the future. She'd feared Jerry would leave her, but he loved her more than that he stood with her and never bothered her about having a child.
Three years later.Three years after the death of Mirabella, everyone was already getting over it even though her memories still lingered in their hearts, she could never be forgotten.Michal accepted Jerry firstly cos of Mirabella's request in the letter she gave her before she died, he came around throughout the times they were mourning her and he did his best to make sure they thought less of Mirabella. After Michal gave him a chance, she discovered he wasn't really a bad guy and he was one of the best man one could wish to have. Her mother finally resigned from her banking job and opened a big supermarket in one of the lucrative areas in the town, she was getting over her daughter's death and they were living fine again, though the house was still empty sometimes.Mirabella's absence made the house empty sometimes. But nothing can be done to bring the
Michal resumed back to school after Mirabella's burial, it was two months already but the memories of her was still fresh in her heart. She couldn't stay back at home and continue brooding, she was hurt but there was nothing she could do to bring her sister back to life. She accepted it was her fate. She had written the exams she missed the last term during the holidays, a makeup exam was conducted for her. She wrote the papers in a dismayed state but she managed to pass all.She was now in S.s.3(three) with her other classmates, Hammed made sure he was always there for her. He fulfilled his promise of staying with her always.Michal hated the pity faces she got from the teachers and students anytime she was in school. And she wished they'd stop talking about Mirabella. She went to Lekky's new class during break and saw her staring at an empty seat that was next to hers.
