"Where is Edward? Why did you send Edward to spy on me when you realized I was recovered?" Tobias asked and touched the spot where Mae had just kicked him.

He needed to distract Martin with his question. A moment ago, when Mae had deliberately kicked him in the calf, a tiny syringe containing a potion had fallen out of her boot. He had taken the opportunity to bend his knee to get the syringe, filled with an unknown potion, into his hands.

He was sure that the calm woman could never accidentally drop a potion. This potion was probably some sort of emergency medication.
