One Year Later.
Anya’s POV
“I’ll be gone for only a week. You don’t have to look like you are sending me off to the other world,” I tease Sam, my only friend in school, as I move my backpack to my other hand and then pull him in for a hug.
“Just make sure you are back early enough.” He says and then ruffles my hair slightly.
After one year of being away from the pack, I was finally going back. Going back because that was all the family I had, and however much I hated that I was only human, hated that I would still be scorned, it felt unfair to just man up and never go back there.
Papa had called me several times to know where I was exactly. However, I didn’t want to be a burden to him anymore and refrained from telling him where my college was.
Also, I have heard the news about some unrest among packs from Kenan. It was better to visit now that I had some mid-session break in school than wait till things got too worse for me to travel down. After all, among wolves, there was hardly anything I could do.
The bus ride was fast as we were at the last bus stop in no time. Although the real journey only began once I got off. Our clan, Boz Pack, was beyond these woods, which without a car would take me about two hours of fast-paced walking.
To regular humans, the park was dangerous, and sightings of wolves have been reported on several occasions. However, to someone like me, who knew what wolves crawled in here, this woods was as safe as a park. Or so I thought….
Two hours later, slight beads of sweat trickled down to my chin, somehow, I hadn’t gotten to the clan yet despite keeping my pace up to par. Slightly lost in my thoughts while trying to confirm I hadn’t missed any landmarks, I hear voices and stealthy footsteps.
“Surround the whole premises. Not one of them should escape,” a gruff and unfamiliar voice sounded right ahead as I furrowed my brows in confusion. What’s going on?
My instincts told me I needed to run as I felt my hair stand all over my body. I turn back, being careful not to step on any broken twigs and start moving the way I came. Unfortunately, I only took about five steps before…
“Where do you think you are going, little tramp?” I hear an angry voice behind me, causing my whole body to freeze up as I pick to my heels.
I should have known there was no way I could outrun people that dared to attack shifters.
The sight I see the moment I’m dragged into the clan makes my stomach churn as I see all the familiar faces bound together with blood splattered around while some seemed to be dead. Deep pain and hatred boil in my heart as I look at the men carrying me on both sides.
“Alpha Andrei, we found her by the premises. Our best guess is she had an early head start at running.” One of the men holding me reports, and I look around trying to see who he was reporting to, and that’s when I see it.
My Papa was tied and held down with a long knife to his neck. “Nooo!!!” I yell out subconsciously as a kind of pain I have never felt before hits me.
I feel something snaps in me as my eyes redden.
Alpha Andrei was renowned. Although I had never met him, there was no wolf clan that was unaware of him. Kenan and I had enjoyed teasing kids in the pack with being captured by him when we were much younger.
Alpha Andrei not only ruled the biggest wolf Kingdom, but he and his brothers also took the smaller ones by war every time. He was called the Devil Alpha, and his being here only meant bad news.
“Anya!” Kenan’s familiar voice cries out, attracting my attention which I, of course, regret immediately the moment I see the state he’s in. He’s covered in blood. His blood.
“You bastards!” I yell, although it sounds more like a growl and I can feel more eyes on me. No matter how much I hated not being a wolf, there was no way I wanted my best friend and my papa dead. They were the only two people I had in this world.
“Who’s she?” The man they had called Alpha Andrei asks Alpha Cole. Kenan’s dad who’s held down in a position very similar to my Papa.
“She’s our Beta’s nephew. She’s not a werewolf, you can leave her out of this.” He said gruffly, and I felt a kind of warmth at his subtle protection.
“The more reason she should be killed off.” He growls as he lands a kick at my father, that not only makes him spurt out blood but also sends him quite some distance away.
Rage fills me, and I lunge for him despite my inability to do anything, but what happens the next moment not just changes everything for me, it changed everything for my clan as I felt my body enlarge and the sounds of bones breaking and popping fills the air.
My body erupts with a force that pushes my captors some miles away from me, and years of reading and trying to understand this whole thing makes me very aware of what I was going through.
At the worst moment where being human could have perhaps saved me, I got my transformation….
I could feel all my senses heighten, and the way I looked at everything felt totally different. I don’t bother to soak in the feeling when I could use my transformation as an advantage to get rid of this Alpha Andrei.
My wolf should be connecting with my sane mind, but I’m far too gone at the moment, and all I’m thinking of is the best way to attack these people here.
Yet, the moment I set my eyes on him, I felt the churns of fate twirling as my wolf in its natural form whined and softened despite the anger it had carried just some moment ago. I feel my body heat up as I feel a deep need to lunge at him. His eyes darkened, and I knew for certain that he was experiencing just what I was feeling.
A feeling I had thought impossible for me to experience in this life again.
We were mates. Alpha Andrei, The Devil Alpha that everyone feared, was my Fated Mate!
Anya's POVI don’t know what happens next, as when I open my eyes, I’m back in my human form and in my room, to be specific. I don’t miss my room. Regardless of how much Papa loved me, his wife, my aunt, had made sure I got this terribly cramped room. My room back in college was a lot better. The thought that I might not be able to return to college makes me jolt up from the bed. What had happened after I passed out? Just as I leave my room, I hear hushed and angry voices making me halt my steps and lean against the wall. “You can’t hand her over to him, Cole. That’s Julia’s only daughter.” Papa’s familiar voice says, and I realise that my hearing is on a whole different level from before. Despite his whispering, I hear him quite well. “She’s his fated mate! Do you really think you can stop him? Besides, we get to save our clan. Imagine all those lives that could be taken if we decide to fight him over this request.” Alpha Cole’s voice sounded next.“Is that even possible? Fated m
Andrei's Pov“Alpha, Cole’s son, was seen climbing out of her window. We suspect she’s awake, and they are just dragging matters.” Kian said with a bow. “Keep an eye on her,” I instruct before going back to the document I was reading. It seems like the witches were starting to get relentless recently. They would need another attack to remind them that I’m not afraid of spells spewing venoms. Annoyance grows in me as my mind goes to the weak mate the moon goddess had given me. Not only did she just get her wolf after eighteen, she had even passed out after her first transformation. Even the weakest wolves in my clan didn’t pass out during their first transformation. I wonder if this is perhaps some repercussion for all the lives I have taken. “Rather, let’s go. We leave now.” I say, standing up suddenly as I wonder why I was giving them time to make a decision. If they wanted to hold her back, I could as well kill them all and take her. No matter what, she was still my fated mate a
Anya’s POV “Anya,” Papa called out weakly.“She would go with him, John. That’s final” Alpha Cole’s familiar voice is heard before we see him. He had no doubt been close or was informed by someone of the happenings here.“Forgive us, Alpha Andrei, for the time wasted, you can take her along with you, and when we bring the subsequent tributes, we would appreciate it if we could see her. After all, she’s a daughter from our pack.” As much as I didn’t want to, my rational reasoning won, and I knew very well that Kenan’s dad was only doing this for the pack. His request that I should be seen anytime they came was only to let Andrei understand that I was also important to them even though that was the otherwise. The last twelve years I had spent here had been nothing but terrible. Since there was already an agreement, Andrei signalled to his men, who tried to take me outside, and it took every power in me to keep my feet glued to the ground. “Won’t I at least get to pack some of my stu
Kingdom of Alva.Andrei’s POVI watched as she got down from the truck, her eyes taking in my Kingdom. Even though her pack was one of the packs at the borders of my Kingdom, I was sure she had never been in my kingdom, not to mention the Royal City. She was gorgeous, and my eyes took in every movement of her body. It was like her every tune was a key that I was desperate to play. But gorgeous wasn’t what I needed. I didn’t need someone with a killer face and body when the supernatural world was unstable and going through power struggles. I needed someone who could work with me to take on Dark shifters and witches who were trying to sneak into the Kingdom. Yet, my wolf pined for her, pined terribly for the weak, starry-eyed girl who could do nothing. She called to me with pure and burning ferocity. I was used to having control. Being in control of every damn thing, including my wolf and thoughts, but this girl right here that looked around cautiously as she entered the gate to the p
Anya’s POVEven if rumours were hardly true, every damn rumour I had heard about the Kingdom of Alva was definitely true. The car had stopped in front of what seemed like a palace. The building was enormous and beautiful.Despite the obvious signs that it had been here for years, time had done nothing to strip it of its beauty.Looking around me at the city where the palace stood, I was surprised at how big his Kingdom was. It was a whole new world entirely. “Hey! Watch where you are going.” A gruff voice makes me snap out of my thoughts. I gulp as I take in the man before me. He’s light-skinned. It was almost like he went out very rarely, and he had quite the feminine features. However, his shirtless upper body, which looked like it deserved a magazine’s front cover, was all I needed to confirm he was indeed a man.“Who are you?” His eyes narrowed as he looked at me with a scrutiny that made me certain that I was a sour thumb that stood out here.I want to say I’m Andrei’s mate, te
Andrei’s POV“Andrei.” Kern and Abel’s voices echo at the same time in my mind. I was certain this had something to do with my mate and how I had reacted to the two of them.If I didn’t get Daiz under control soon enough, it was going to let my brothers know that something was up with me. “Come to my place,” I say, saving them the stress of having to request a meeting. I would let them know my plans for her while making sure they were fine with it. After all, the three of us needed to be on the same page. I smell them the moment they are in front of my house, and I go back downstairs, my wolf becoming restless just as I pass the third floor. “No, we aren’t going there,” I mutter. I don’t trust myself to not touch her, to not strip her naked in a moment and bury myself in her. It had taken every bit of self-control not to lay my hands some hours ago. I could understand why I was losing control over her, with Daiz being unhappy with me not taking action to claim our mate. His mate.
Anya’s POV“And you feel you won’t be a danger to humans with your recent transformation? You take dumb to another level.” He spat rudely. His gaze made me feel worthless and stupid. I understood that after shifting, one had to take some time to be sure they were in total control of their wolf. But I wasn’t asking to walk through those doors and leave for college at this exact moment, and I was almost sure he knew that wasn’t what I meant. “What’s your name?” He asked, surprising me as I searched through my thoughts to see if I had told him my name at any point. “Anya.”‘Andrei is a demon’ is the one thought that runs through my mind as I watch his chest move up and down from his bouts of laughter. “I’m guessing whoever named you had an idea you were going to grow up stupid.” He finally says and stops laughing. And despite all the hate I have taken all my life, nothing could come close to this. I don’t spend another moment at the table as I race up to my room. All the tears I kep
Anya’s POV“The King requests that you come downstairs now,” The woman from yesterday said, and I’m glad I had been thoughtful enough to get dressed the moment I woke up.Clearly, all my prayers to have Andrei die in his sleep had gone unanswered. My dresses were few, and I doubted I would have anything presentable after today. Still, I went down with her in my blue dress. Unlike yesterday, the dining table had two more people. A man with sandy blonde hair was seated on Andrei’s right-hand side with his back view to me, while Kern, who had been nice enough to treat me like a person, was seated on his left. Kern looked up the moment he heard my steps, and his eyes lit up slightly. It was a sharp contrast to how angry Andrei looked every time he saw me. Since it was a long dining table, I sat at the last edge away from them. Andrei shoots a look at me at the same moment the man on his right does, and I wonder if looks were a criterion for getting into their pack. He had sparkling bl
