When I went outside, I saw someone lying on a bench by the fountain. I didn’t know who it was, but I noticed they had very long hair that was as white as snow. It was hanging down from the bench, blowing gently in the breeze. It looked like a white sheer curtain waving in the wind. It looked so soft and silky, almost making me want to reach out and touch it.
I felt drawn to the person on the bench, so I quietly walked closer. With each step, my heart beat faster and faster. Then, I saw her face, and my heart almost stopped. It started racing like crazy. It was like I was under a spell.
It was her, my mate! She’s the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. Her skin is as smooth as porcelain, and her lips are full and inviting. All I wanted to do was kiss her. Before I knew it, I was kneeling beside her, gazing at her lips. Without thinking, I leaned in and kissed her. She’s got me under a spell. The moment our lips touched, my desire to search for her disappeared. It’s like I finally found what I was looking for.
It is truly her!
Lost in the kiss, her eyes suddenly flew open, and I found myself gazing into the bluest eyes I’d ever seen—a pale blue that took my breath away. The kiss was soft and gentle, just a light touch of our lips. But then, out of nowhere, her hand swung up and hit my face, making me stumble back. She’s a fiery one, despite her small size! She caught me off guard, and I guess I did the same to her. It’s not every day you wake up to a stranger kissing you, after all! I would have probably done the same thing if I was in her shoes.
She jumped up from the bench, her eyes blazing with anger, like she could scorch me with a single glance. She was talking a mile a minute, probably yelling at me for kissing her, but I wasn’t listening. I was too busy drinking in every detail of her face, from her adorable dimples to her tiny nose. I’ve been waiting for her for so long, and now she’s finally right in front of me. But from the look on her face, I can tell she has no idea that we’re meant to be together.
“ Don’t just stand there with your mouth hanging open!” she yelled, furious. “ How dare you kiss me out of the blue like that?” But I couldn’t help it—I was transfixed by her dazzling glazier eyes. She had me completely under her spell, and she didn’t even realize it.
“ I had every right to kiss you,” I said. “ Your lips belong to me, Little One.” She scowled, and her face flushed with anger. But I wouldn’t apologize for what I did. Her lips were the softest, sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted, and I would gladly kiss her again if I could. Nothing has ever felt as good as her lips on mine.
Without saying anything else, I turned my back on her and walked away, heading to the back of the castle where my men were waiting. I wanted to share the good news with them, but I knew it was too soon. She might not even know that we’re meant to be together, and after the stunt I just pulled, she might reject me. If it happens, I’m afraid I’ll lose myself to the darkness.
( Meara )
Who does this guy think he is? He had no right to kiss me while I was asleep. Who does that? And to have the audacity to claim that he had every right to kiss me—he’s crazy! Walking off like nothing happened, with his infuriatingly handsome looks. He’s too handsome for his own good. He seems made for deception, for whispering secrets and false promises in the dead of the night. I don’t like it, not one bit.
What is taking Merilla so long? I have been waiting out here forever. Without waiting any longer, I head into the castle, absolutely awestruck by the interior. Completely speechless. Everything inside is white marble, with touches of gold everywhere. I can’t help but wonder if it is real gold or just for show. Tempted, I reached out to touch a piece of gold attach to one of the pillars.
“ Thief!” Someone called out, grabbing ahold of my wrist and yanking it away from the pillar. “ I am not a thief; I was just looking at the pillar.” I argue back
“ That is usually what a thief would say if you caught them trying to steel.”
“ Seriously, do you really think I could steel a pillar that huge? How on earth would I carry it in the first place?”
“ Don’t know, but I am not taking any chances. I will throw you in the dungeon until the king has returned and decide what he would do with you.”
Without any further discussion, the guard dragged me outside of the castle into some old-looking stone building with metal bars on the small windows. I shout for help, but everyone we pass just ignores my screams and turns their heads in another direction, pretending I did not exist.
From what it looked like, the dungeon cells are completely empty. There wasn’t another living soul in here besides me. The guard opened one of the cell doors, which was made of thick wood with a small window and metal rods into the wood. He shoves me in with such force, causing me to fall to the ground and scuff my knee. I yelp in pain, but he does not seem to be bothered as he closes the door behind me, locking me in. “ No, wait! Please come back. There has been a huge mistake!” I call out after him, but he gives me the cold shoulder as he disappears down the hall and out of site. Seeing the guard leave me all alone in this cold, dark place made me feel so alone. Without helping it, I fell to the ground and burst into tears. Where was Merilla? Why wasn’t she there to help me? All these thoughts went through my head as I sit there and cried. I should never have left home and followed some fox into the forest in the first place. Now I am stuck in a strange place, an
" You can go now," he motioned for me to come out of the cell. Without any hesitation, I turned towards the door, eager to leave this terrible place. As I approached the door, a strong hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me back forcefully, causing me to collide with a broad, muscular chest. Looking up, I realized I was staring into the eyes of the Jerk. I noticed tiny specks of red in his caramel brown eyes, momentarily distracting me. The warmth of his body was inviting and overpowering. I felt like I could get lost in his strong arms wrapped around me. I shook my head to snap out of it and tried to push him away, but he was too strong. He leaned down close to my ear, and I froze, unsure of what he was about to say. " I'm not letting you go so soon," he whispered, his warm breath making me gasp for air. Chills ran down my spine as he breathed on my neck. It was a strange feeling, and I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. No man had ever been this close to me before. In one
He flung the door wide open, revealing an interior covered in white marble with touches of gold on the furniture and fabrics beautifully draped over the bed. It was hard to get a full view while hanging upside down. The man walked over and threw me onto the bed, then turned to lock the door, shoving the key into his trouser pocket. Any hope I had of escaping vanished with that key. How could I retrieve it from his back pocket when he was built like an ox? As if things couldn’t get any worse, he turned around and stared straight into my eyes, his gaze darkening in an inexplicable way. With every step he took closer, I felt my soul leaving my body piece by piece. It was the most terrifying feeling ever. There was a look in his eyes, a mixture of pain and anger, that I couldn't quite place. I scurried backward until my back was pressed against the wall. He leaned down on the bed and crawled toward me. I closed my eyes in fear, feeling his hot breath on my face, and knew he w
“Yes, Kaden! Tall, muscular, dark shoulder-length hair—looks intimidating but is actually a softy once you get to know him.”“Oh my God!” I exclaimed. “ What’s wrong? Why do you sound so shocked?” she asked, confused. “ Yesterday, when you told me to wait, I fell asleep at the fountain and woke up to a stranger kissing me. He was so rude, saying he had every right to kiss me. Then, a guard dragged me to a dungeon and locked me up. I spent the whole day there without food or water. Finally, that pervert you call King showed up and locked me in this room with him.” Merilla was silent, processing what I said. “ I’m so sorry, Meara. I wish I had found you sooner. I thought you might have returned home until I ran into the king, who said you were safe in his room. That’s when I came looking for you.” “ Why would the king lock me in his room and not another? Surely a castle this size has more than one room.” “ You’re right. But if you are what I think you are, he
" Watch where you’re going, little one. We wouldn’t want you getting hurt," he says. " Why do you care?" I snap, before I can stop myself. His cocky attitude vexes me, not to mention that he kissed me without permission. I should think before I speak, especially since Merilla mentioned he is the king. " I do care, my Sleeping Beauty." Before I can retort, a huge black cat-like creature appears behind him. I squeal and start to back away. " Mate!" Merilla calls in our mind-link, running to the creature. " Don’t be afraid, Little One. This is my spirit animal," the king says. " That’s your spirit animal? What is that thing?" I stutter. " That’s not one particular animal. Luka likes to combine animals to create his unique form," he explains. I try to stay calm, but my instincts scream to run as the creature fixes its gaze on me. " Why didn’t you tell me that you are the King’s Mate?” Merilla asks, shocked. “ Mate? What do you mean Mate? I know of no su
She and Luka always disappears for a while to God knows where.” I sit quietly while Kaden explained everything, but my mind is completely blank. All I could think off was that I am in some strange Kingdome with a strange man who thinks that we are destined to be together just because he thinks he has feelings for me because we were mated. “ Little One, are you listening? What is going on in that pretty little head of yours” Hearing him call me out on that nickname, snapped me right out of my deep thoughts. “ I can’t stay here. I have to go back home. I have the farm and my job that is waiting for me back home. The animals on the farm need me. Merilla said that she will bring me here to find out who my parents were, she didn’t say anything about staying here with you.” I said overwhelmed. He placed his hand on my lap, I looked down at his hand gazing at how big his hand was on my leg. He caught me completely off guard. He instantly realized that it was a mistake and removed his
“ I am sorry.” Kaden said while pulling on the collar of his shirt, like he is trying to loosen it up because it was chocking him. “ I fail to realize you are not versed in the mating bond given to us by the goddess.” I stay quiet because my emotions and hormones are all over the place, not to mention this ice cold feeling inside of me.Kaden, ignoring the space I put between us, came close to me again and extended his hand to me. “ Meara, are you okay? You look pale, almost like you are turning blue.” The closer he got, the colder my body became. “ What is happening to me?” I call out hysterically. Kaden looked to me confused and I don’t blame him. How would he know what is happening to me? I reached for his hand and as I extend my hand out I could feel all the coldness running through my body to my extended hand. Just when I was about to touch Kaden’s hand, my hand lit up. Kaden’s eyes widened with shock. There is this icy cold blue flame dancing on the tip of my fingers
“ Merilla, please help me!” I called out in my mind. There is no answer back from her, so I tried again. “ Merilla, I need you!” I hope I am doing it right, or maybe she can’t hear me because she is too far away. Our bond isn’t strong enough yet. “ Meara?” Her voice finally appeared in my head. “ Oh, thank God! Merilla, please come quick. This Barbarian of a king is carrying me off on his shoulder. He won’t let me go to have a moment to myself to think.” “ It is okay Meara. You are in the safest of hands. You are his Mate; he won’t do anything to hurt you. Once a man has found his mate, he gets very territorial of her, it is like they can’t be separated from us for too long, and it is the same with us.” “ Well, all I can think of is getting away from him. I need time alone to think. There is a lot that had happened the past few days and I just need a breather. I don’t know why, but something about him just seem to irritate me in the wrong way.” “ If it wi
