At StriveStyle Co.
“I heard we are getting a new CEO soon.”
“Ha! You must be joking. Who is that unlucky person?”
“StriveStyle Co. is practically a sinking ship. I can’t imagine anyone willingly stepping into the CEO role.”
“Unless it is someone as greedy as the former CEO who laundered money mercilessly.”
The employees were in a frenzy. Some of them even bumped into Heidi as they rushed to get to the conference room early. Heidi didn’t walk in the same direction, though. Her new assistant hurried up to her, panting heavily.
“I- I am so sorry, Ms. Olsen. I was still setting up your office; I couldn’t receive you at the parking lot. Please overlook my mistake; this is the last time, I promise.”
“Relax.” Heidi smiled. “Where are the reports I requested?”
“Here, I’ve printed them out.” The assistant handed her a documents folder. “They have all the information you need, Ms. Olsen.”
“Good.” Heidi flipped through the papers. Her brows knitted while skimming through the content, then her expression relaxed.
“By the way, my name is Isla. Isla Kendall.”
“Nice to meet you, Isla.” Heidi shook hands with her before handing back the documents folder.
“Attention, everyone,” Isla called the employees’ attention once they entered the conference room. “Allow me to introduce you to our new CEO. Everyone, please meet Ms. Olsen.”
Gasps of astonishment filled the room, especially from those who had gossiped in the elevator.
“Oh, no. We’re dead meat.”
“So she’s the new CEO.”
“Danmit! She heard what we said, right?”
Their expressions paled, and they began whispering anxiously.
“I’ve heard some rather unpleasant words…” Heidi chuckled, her eyes scanning the employees. “StriveStyle Co. is a struggling company, and that’s common knowledge. If you, as employees, don’t have faith in it, can the company stand on its own?”
“Moreover…” her gaze shifted to the three girls. “Those who claim I attained this position by seducing the President should be forewarned that there will be consequences.”
The three female employees shrank back in their seats, lowering their heads in shame.
“I’ll let it slide this time because we have an important matter ahead. But next time you say anything unpleasant…” she shook her head, laughing softly, “consider this your only warning. I’m no saint.”
The employees quickly composed themselves. When the assistant introduced her as the CEO, they prematurely judged that she wasn’t normal. She exuded an air of calm and confidence, not arrogance but firmness in her words. It turned out she wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
“With regard to the structure of this brand, I’ve conducted a thorough examination,” she declared, taking her seat. “The root cause of StriveStyle Co.’s decline can be traced to mismanagement by key employees. Those involved in any form of illicit collaboration or transactions should expect termination letters soon.”
Over a dozen pairs of eyes widened, and nervous glances were exchanged among the employees.
“Also, don’t lose hope in StriveStyle Co. yet. For those rooting for the company’s success, rest assured it will stand back on its feet soon.”
“Ms. Olsen,” one employee raised his hand tentatively. “If I may ask, do you have a plan to revive this company, especially considering its current reputation...?
The employee trailed off, looking uncertain, and the others mirrored his expression. None of them believed StriveStyle Co. would ever recover. Even if the bad elements were removed, the company seemed irreparably damaged.
“To answer your question… Yes.” Heidi nodded, understanding their skepticism. “Not only me, but every one of us will work hard to revive StriveStyle Co. We’ll work as a team and regain its lost glory,” Heidi said confidently.
The employees clapped. Some were hopeful, but many remained doubtful.
*******
Later that day,
Heidi remained seated in her new office, engrossed in reading various documents. She noticed the company has a huge need recruiting KOLs to promote for the company, but the best models are all at GK Group. , her ex-husband's company!
Heidi leaned back, rubbing her forehead. She shut her eyes to push down thoughts about Lucas. When it proved futile, she picked up the remote and switched on the TV.
“Breaking News: The GK Group has been making headlines recently, but not one as interesting as the sudden announcement of Mr. Harrison’s upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, the family’s joyful moment is interrupted as rumors have it that the Chairman of GK Group has had a stroke. Who else thinks this is a bad premonition?”
The remote slipped from Heidi’s hand, and her li-ps parted in shock.
Grandpa Winston was ill? How could that have happened?
Heidi stood up and paced back and forth. Surprisingly, the news of Lucas getting married didn’t faze her much, almost as if she had anticipated it.
Poor Grandpa Winston. He had always been healthy and full of life. What could have gone wrong?
That's when Heidi's phone rang.
She frowned as she checked it and saw the caller ID, "Lucas."
Phoenix City’s First Hospital stood proudly in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw away from StriveStyle Co. Heidi swiftly arrived, making her way through the hospital’s entrance. The staff, familiar with her due to GK Group’s significant ownership, directed her straight to the emergency room. Although Lucas hadn’t publicly declared their marriage, this hospital was one of the few places where Heidi was acknowledged as a member of the Harrison Family. “How is Grandpa’s condition?” Heidi asked, encountering the doctor emerging from the emergency room. Sweaty and out of breath from her hurried arrival, anxiety gripped her as she feared Grandpa Winston’s condition might be more severe this time. “Tell me, Doc. What exactly happened to Grandpa Winston?” “Do you even deserve to know?” a familiar yet cold voice interrupted from behind. Heidi turned to find herself face-to-face with Lucas.“What's wrong with you? You're the one who called me to come to visit your Grandpa!” Hend
Tracy paused, feeling the weight of the tension in the room. The air grew heavy, and the once cheerful expression on Grandpa Winston’s face twisted into a deep scowl.“I asked you, who gave her permission to come here?” Grandpa Winston’s voice cut through the tense silence.“Grandpa Winston, please calm down,” the Young Nurse interjected, her voice trembling with concern. She feared his anger might exacerbate his illness.“Grandpa, don’t you remember her? She’s Tracy,” Lucas said, trying to bridge the connection.“So what!?” Grandpa Winston snapped, his displeasure evident.Seeing the same girl he had seen on the TV with his grandson, was it possible that the news wasn’t fake? Otherwise, why would she also come here? “Before I count to two, I want her out of this place,” Grandpa Winston demanded.“But, Grandpa…” Lucas looked dissatisfied. “Tracy is here to check on you.”“Y-You.” Grandpa Winston’s hand shook. Tracy could sense the brewing conflict between Lucas and his grandfather.
“I don’t know what came over my grandson. In what way is that girl better than you?” Grandpa Winston lamented, shaking his head, his voice heavy with disappointment. His voice, previously firm during the exchange with Lucas, now sounded weak and exhausted. Reaching into his pocket, Grandpa Winston retrieved a small satchel he always carried around. With a gentle hand, he opened it to reveal a necklace nestled inside. “Heidi, I have always wanted to give this to you. I don’t want to delay it any longer. Do you know that a few hours ago, I almost thought I wouldn’t survive?” he confessed softly, taking Heidi’s hand and placing the necklace in her palm.“Grandpa...” Heidi trailed off, blinking at the necklace. The diamonds sparkled and glinted against the light, embraced by finely polished gold links. The simple yet elegant patterns captivated her eyes, casting a spell over her.“You like it, right?” Grandpa Winston smiled, satisfied by her reaction. “It is all yours, Heidi.”Heidi shoo
Tracy’s words left Lucas confused, prompting a glance in the direction Heidi had taken. Tarnishing GK Group’s reputation meant potential destruction for the company. What benefit could Heidi gain from such an act? Even if she were to share such damaging information with the media, what could she possibly stand to gain from such an act?“You’re worrying too much,” Lucas assured Tracy. “I don’t think Heidi is capable of that.”Tracy paused. She fiddled with her hands while her heart burned inside.“B-But, Lucas,” she quickly regained her pitiful look, “Then how do you think the paparazzi got the news that we were going to attend the business dinner together?”Holding his hand, she continued, “The only people who knew you’d bring a female companion to the party were you and your parents. And the name on the party list was supposed to be Heidi’s.”“Doesn’t it make sense that Heidi plans to retaliate out of jealousy? And her only target will be GK Group. That’s the only way she can hurt yo
Heidi’s brow furrowed slightly. She had just left StriveStyle Co. What had transpired in her absence? Could Zach be exaggerating?Slipping her phone into her bag, she shot a glance at Lucas. Her eyes caught the bulge in his pants, and she stifled a gasp before letting out a snicker.“Mr. Harrison, I can see that your impotence is finally cured.”On the excuse that he was in convalescence, the man had never been intimate with her. It was the same excuse he used for his grandfather, who kept demanding great-grandkids.“Shut up,” Lucas retorted, his eyes darting to his arousal. He dared her with his eyes to say more. “Who told you I’m impotent?”“Tsk.” Heidi shook her head and then left.…When she arrived at StriveStyle Co., Zach’s words had almost slipped her mind until she heard the commotion coming from the office.“Master Aiden, please calm down, Ms. Olsen isn’t here.”“Ah! Please don’t break that, Ma’am Lilian. Those are expensive.”The employees were in a frenzy, and Heidi walked
The room buzzed with voices, yet no one was truly speaking. The board of directors wore expressions of fury, demanding that Zach fire Heidi on the spot. Caught in the crossfire, Zach shot Heidi a helpless look before addressing the seething group.“Everyone, cool down. At least, let’s hear what Heidi has to say.”“Mr. Olsen, there’s nothing to explain here. It is obvious that this young lady is not fit for this job. Doesn’t the rumor have it that her qualifications are outdated?” One of the directors retorted.“It was brought to our attention that she doesn’t have any job experience. For many years, she has been unemployed,” another added before concluding, “So giving her this position was a mistake.”“Guys, I told you to be quiet!” Zach groaned. “Respect me as the President, at least.”But no one respected him. Not even the board of directors. Hadn’t he been the root of all the problems in the first place? If it hadn’t been for his poor management, the company wouldn’t be in such a m
“But, Brother-”“Come on, Bro!”Lilian and Aiden argued, thoroughly displeased about the whole situation.“Heidi’s only going to lead this company to hell. Why do you have so much faith in her!?”At Aiden’s offensive question, Zach’s amiable expression remained unchanged. Even the shareholders were shocked that the President had so much faith in this girl.“Hey, enough acting like kids. Now go home.” Zach clapped. “Everyone, go home. The meeting is over.”The shareholders left, grumbling to themselves, and Lilian and Aiden stood up and voiced their frustration.“Heidi, this is outrageous! If you want to stop working with those people, I might as well quit,” Lilian exclaimed.“Oh, please be my guest.” Heidi shrugged. “I’m not done signing off the discharge letters anyway.”“You!” Aiden glared. “Bro, are you just gonna watch her bully us?”It was true that apart from Zach, Heidi was older than all her cousins. It was unbelievable that their brother would take her side.“Guys, no more ta
Startled eyes stared back at her before they turned as dark as the bottom of a pit.“What are you doing here, Heidi?” The man didn’t let go of her; in fact, his arms tightened around her, caging her in place.Heidi wanted to believe she was hallucinating. The last person she expected to see here was Lucas.“Mr. Harrison, let go of me.” Heidi pushed him away and struggled out of his embrace. She also lost her footing this time but managed to catch herself.“I asked you… what are you doing here?”His cold-deep voice was supposed to make her shudder. However, Heidi seemed to be immune to it, probably due to the wine’s effect.Lucas’s eyes traveled from her half-lidded eyes to the tip of her nose, which was slightly red. Then they fell on her red cheeks. The girl looked tipsy, and a faint smell of wine hung around her.“Excuse me…” Heidi wanted to walk away, but he grabbed her hand.“Aren’t you going to answer my question-”Before Lucas completed his words, Zach barged out of the booth.“

Heidi sprang to a sitting position instantly, hearing the voice coming from the door. Dread washed over, and instinctively, she pulled her baby into her arms, her eyes darting around for any possible escape route. Heidi's first instinct was to flee, but to where?“Daddy?” Her daughter, on the other hand, jumped in excitement. “Hey, Mommy! It's Daddy! Daddy's here!”The door's handle shifted as someone juggled it from the outside. The sounds of knocking increased. “Heidi, are you inside?”Lost at what to do, Heidi just stared at the door, hugging her baby. Lucas barged into the room as he kicked the door open. He came to a screeching halt right in front of her, almost colliding into the bed. “Heidi…” as he whispered her name, Heidi's eyes locked into his. Except for the subtle changes; his once dark eyes now crystal clear, his stubbled jaws and overall demeanor, everything about him was the same. Tears pricked at her eyes and her heart hurt tremendously, wondering how she'd been a
All eyes turned to Harold, some blinking in shock and the rest widening. Heidi was confused too that of all people, Harold Olsen was the one who believed her.But from the look of guilt on his face and the way he sank onto the floor, literally kneeling in front of her, something was definitely fishy. “Heidi, please forgive me.”Heidi flinched when he held her knees. She stared at him, frowning. “Forgive you for what, Uncle?”“What did you do Dad!?” Zach hollered, his eyes filled with horror. The others looked fearful as well.Hanging his head, Harold shook it slowly. “I know saying this is probably too late. That night, Heidi didn't lose her child. When the police found her and Natalie, I orchestrated everything that happened after.”Several gasps spread across the room.Avoiding everyone's gaze, Harold said in a melancholic tone. “Having Heidi and Lucas Harrison together at that time meant the end of my sovereignty in this family. I did that to strip Heidi of her position- and…” He
All eyes snapped in Heidi's direction. As her sobs echoed in the living room, they all but sprang to their feet. “Ha! How many times have I told you guys to stop mentioning Heidi's name?” Lilian cried out. “Now I'm seeing Heidi's face instead of this lady who appeared from nowhere with a child!”“Are you seeing Heidi? I'm also seeing her!” Natalie gasped. “That's impossible, right?”“Unless we're all out of our minds!” Kate cackled. “Because we all might be seeing Heidi.”Lifting her head, Heidi glanced at everyone's face. Her gaze stopped at her mother whose expression was deadly pale. “Th- This- This isn't Heidi. My Heidi's dead!”Shaking her head, the woman staggered backward. “Who the hell summoned Heidi's ghost?”Her mother fainted immediately after saying that, and the whole room was thrown into chaos. Heidi shot to her feet, holding her baby tight, racing to the spot. Under the family's watchful gazes, she sat beside her mother, shaking her. “Mum! I'm not a ghost! I've come
~During the car ride, Heidi's mind was muddled with different kinds of thoughts that brought worry to her heart. Her only solace was the little girl sitting beside her, holding her hand. “You're so quiet, Mommy…” she asked, “Is everything alright?”Heidi smiled, parting her hair to the side. “I'm okay, Baby.”“Where are we headed?” She murmured, glancing out of the car's window. “You brought me back, Mommy. Are you gonna drop me off at Nanny's place and disappear again.”Smoothing the tiny frown on the girl's forehead, Heidi's heart ached as she kept repeating that word. Disappearing hadn't be easy, and appearing again would definitely incure many repercussions. Heidi picked her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her. “I'd rather die than to disappear again.”Here she was, loathing death, something she'd actually been craving for the past three years. Her heart was an ocean of emotions and her tears never dried up, so much that her eyes were hurting. “Please, Mommy, stop crying
“For the first time, I'm agreeing with Jason's words.” Freya nodded. “Let's return her to the poor man, Heidi. She's not lost.”“Please don't let them take me away, Mommy.” The little girl hugged Heidi's arm. “I promise I'll be obedient. We'll stay in this paradise forever.”“Don't mind them, I won't let you go.” Heidi patted her hair. She stared at Jason and Freya, communicating with her eyes. The two gave her crestfallen looks and sighed at the same time. That Night;Heidi rested on her bed, holding the baby close, and sniffing the familiar scent on her. Citrus mixed with lavender. The scent of the Harrisons Villa. A scent that only belonged to the man she loved. Whenever she thought of him in the past, she'd feel hate and remorse, but now… the thought of him brought fear to her heart, and a regret she couldn't deny. Beside her, the little girl shifted. She opened her sleepy eyes, her wide milky eyes blinking. “Why aren't you sleeping, Mommy?”“I just love staring at you.” H
From caressing the girl's hair, Heidi found herself drawing her close, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. “What's your name?” Uncertainty filling her heart, she asked in a hoarse voice. The little girl neither struggled nor made a sound of discomfort, she in fact snuggled deeper into Heidi's embrace. She murmured, “Nanny calls me Didi, but Daddy calls me Heidi.”Heidi shut her eyes, swallowing down a sudden lump in her throat. A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That's a beautiful name you have, Baby.”However, the little girl pulled away, furrowing her brows. “But my first Mommy dislikes it. She once argued with Daddy about it.”“Oh, is that so?” Sniffing back the tears threatening to burst out, Heidi forced a smile. “Why doesn't she like your name?”“Because she's a meanie. Nanny said she made my Mommy disappear.” The girl blew out a sigh, her tone gloomy. “But Daddy promised she won't bother us anymore.”Heidi didn't know where to keep her emotions. She just didn't want to cry in f
“A kid means no harm. Relax, Heidi.” Jason patted her shoulder. “That pilot must be her father.”Heidi sat on the couch. “Now let me get to work! I'll see to it that that man is taught a lesson for crossing my number one rule of this Island! No tourists are allowed with a helicopter!”As Jason matched out of the room, Freya snickered. “He's doing a bad job managing this place. Too bad none of us can be in charge.”Under the pretense of working for the AG Group and managing the resorts here, Jason had moved to the mystic Island to be with her. One coincidence led to the guy clinging onto her.Driven by curiosity, he'd wandered into this cabin on a particular day, which was rumored to be haunted, and that was how he found her and Freya. Wondering if Jason was going to send the father and daughter back even though she didn't like that idea, Heidi carried on with her day, taking a walk down the empty beach separated from the resort’s area. The Island ahead was like an abandoned old ca
… Waking up the next morning to a foreboding feeling in her chest was enough sign that her peaceful days on this Island were over. The moment she opened her eyes, someone hugged her. “What am I gonna do with you, Heidi…” Freya murmured. “An emotional outburst can cause you a second heart attack, and that will be the end of us. Our days of hiding here will be over… we'll need to go to any nearby city for your treatment, and the police won't have mercy once they catch me.”Heidi sighed inside. Did she faint last night? Her only cure was ultimate happiness, something she doubted she was ever going to find on this Island or anywhere in this world. “If I have a heart attack someday, don't bother yourself, Freya… let me die and-”“Please, Heidi… stop it,” Freya whispered. “How dare you wish death upon yourself? You're the nicest person I've ever met; I fell for a villain and almost let him slip away, I lost my job and was about to lose my life but you saved me even though we never kne
