“What took you so long outside?” Heidi asked when Lucas returned to the living room. “And where's Killian?”

Lucas sat beside her but she shifted away. “He has left,” he answered her question.

“So soon?” She murmured. “He promised to stay for dinner.”

“He also promised to give me a ride back home,” Isla said in a crestfallen voice.

Lucas stared from Heidi to Isla. If they knew what Killian was up to, would they still be nice towards him?

“You asked me to come, Mr. Harrison. Is there any news you want to share?” Isla retained a professional look.

Lucas nodded. “About the recent scandals. Steve Anderson is a culprit.”

Should he add ‘also’?

Because Killian's speculation couldn't be easily overlooked.

What if that family member was in collusion with Steve?

Heidi's expression turned sullen, and Isla looked disappointed as well. “We aren't so shocked about it,” she said, and Heidi agreed.

“Steve Anderson has been targeting the AG Group from the start. The reason is unclear, though.”

“I don't blame you for getting angry. But can you tone it down sometimes, Heidi?” Lucas reached out, pulling her into his arms for a hug. Heidi wondered why she was even allowing him to. “Won't you trust me that I'll never do anything that I'll harm you? Even if I'm hiding something, it must be to protect you.”His words made sense. But wasn't he always fond of hurting her feelings? He might be treating Tracy like an angel the way he was doing with her. Behind her back, of course. A responsible man would never ignore a woman he'd made pregnant. What was she even doing here?As if he could hear her thoughts, Lucas went on, “If you're worried about Tracy, I have sent her to the Villa on the City's outskirts. She'll spend many months there. Tracy and Stella will no longer be our problem.”“Who told you I'm worried about Tracy?” Heidi grumbled, struggling to break out of the hug, but he held her firmly.“Did you really chase after me in college as well?” His question came out of nowhe

The next chairman of the AG Group? The shock hit Heidi like waves, sending her staggering back, grateful that Lucas caught her before she fell. “What are they saying? Grandpa's sick?” She shook her head, convinced she'd seen wrong and heard wrong from the TV. Heidi turned to Lucas, the horror in her heart reflecting in his eyes. “They're lying, aren't they?”Lucas remained silent, his eyes flashing with worry. He didn't answer her question, probably because he knew the truth wouldn't settle well with her. Who was she kidding? She'd seen for herself in the cemetery. Grandpa Jeffery's health wasn't in good condition.A heart attack?“I have to see him.” The words left her mouth before she thought about them. “Lucas, I must see Grandpa.”Heidi was already darting for the door by the time she finished the last sentence. Lucas hurried after her, and he held her back. “You know you can't-”“Why not? Grandpa's sick!” Heidi said with exasperation. “Should I remain here and just stare at

“Why do you bring this up? Can't you at least wait until Dad recovers from his illness?” That was her father's voice. The usually cool man sounded angry. “We all know the only remedy to his illness is saving the AG Group,” Harold Olsen argued. “So this is the best time to speak about it. Dad, do you agree with the collaboration, because it is the only way to save the Group.”“Which collaboration are you talking about, Harold?” Grandpa Jeffery's weak voice sounded. “We're all waiting for Heidi to come back.”“You know that girl will never come back. Once she gets married, she bids the family goodbye for good. Who knows, she might also spend three years with Steve Anderson or even five years before she remembers about her family after he divorces her.”“What are you saying? Why do you always wish bad for Heidi, Harold!?” Regina berated. “I'm not wishing bad for her. Your daughter is just unreliable. She can't even get Steve Anderson to help us out in this critical moment!”“My husban

The only way to save the AG Group was through marriage.Would that be the only solution? And won't the family get disappointed in the long run?Considering marriage as the only way to save the Group would be demeaning the family's values. Other socialites would look down on them, a thing that had never happened to the family before despite the AG Group constantly causing headlines. “Did you see Grandpa? How's he?” Lucas asked Heidi as she returned to the parking lot. Even if Heidi had the opportunity to, how could she have the mind to see Grandpa Jeffery when he was greatly mad at her? She sat in the passenger's seat, silent for a while, trying to digest the family's decision. Lucas was trying his best to help. But just a secret collaboration would do nothing to make the AG Group stand back on its feet, right?Time was running out. Grandpa Jeffery was ill due to the anxiety caused by the Group's plight. Heidi looked at him. Astonishment flashed in her eyes for a split second, replaced by the chill that hardened her features. Realizing that he'd failed to bottle in his anger, the words left his mouth before he thought twice about it. And the look in her eyes made him want to take back his words,...Unfortunately, it was too late. Thinking she might jump down his throat or do something worse, he didn't see her reaction coming. Silent and stiff, she turned the door's handle and left the car.On the vast dark street, she stood by the roadside, her hands folded across her chest, her features cascaded with a coldness that cracked his heart. Lucas took in a deep breath, fighting down his rage.“You know it's a silly idea.” He left the car and stood in front of her. “Neither Killian nor your cousin loves each other.”His words were greeted with silence. Heidi looked sideways, blinking rapidly. He'd prefer she yell at him and express her anger rather than her silence. Lucas couldn't even

…Heidi sat on the dining table, The Next Morning, picking at her food, her eyes straying to the chair across from her. What was he still doing upstairs? It had been thirty minutes and he hadn't come down for breakfast yet. Was he avoiding her?Was he still mad?Wasn't she supposed to be the one angry at him?Lucas didn't agree with her request. It was obvious, because he spoke no more about it even after they came back home last night. Poor Grandpa Jeffery. If only she could see him and reassure him that all would be alright. What assurance could she give though when she wasn't sure how far into the investigation the men Lucas hired were? “Madam, your food will lose its warmth. Why aren't you eating?” Mira appeared and dropped a tray of food. Heidi tapped her fingers on the desk, chewing her lips anxiously. “Can you check the study room if Lucas is still sleeping?”“The Young Master?” The maid scratched her head, looking hesitant. “You know the Young Master usually wakes up be

Hearing footsteps approaching, she deleted the message and dropped her phone. “You aren't looking around. Didn't you want to come for a tour?”She lifted her head, staring at the man standing in front of her. “While you were away, I looked around. This place looks great.”“More appealing than the AG Group?” Steve sat beside her on the couch in his office. Freya nodded, looking around. “Yeah. I prefer this place.”“You have changed a lot, Heidi.” He took her chin in his fingers, turning her face to stare at him. “I think I'm starting to miss the old Heidi, fiery and honest.”“You said it yourself that you prefer the docile Heidi. It's a surprise that you're fed up with me already,” she replied in a soft tone, looking down. Steve sighed. “I'm just bored. Heidi sprang to a sitting position instantly, hearing the voice coming from the door. Dread washed over, and instinctively, she pulled her baby into her arms, her eyes darting around for any possible escape route. Heidi's first instinct was to flee, but to where?“Daddy?” Her daughter, on the other hand, jumped in excitement. “Hey, Mommy! It's Daddy! Daddy's here!”The door's handle shifted as someone juggled it from the outside. The sounds of knocking increased. “Heidi, are you inside?”Lost at what to do, Heidi just stared at the door, hugging her baby. Lucas barged into the room as he kicked the door open. He came to a screeching halt right in front of her, almost colliding into the bed. “Heidi…” as he whispered her name, Heidi's eyes locked into his. Except for the subtle changes; his once dark eyes now crystal clear, his stubbled jaws and overall demeanor, everything about him was the same. Tears pricked at her eyes and her heart hurt tremendously, wondering how she'd been a

All eyes turned to Harold, some blinking in shock and the rest widening. Heidi was confused too that of all people, Harold Olsen was the one who believed her.But from the look of guilt on his face and the way he sank onto the floor, literally kneeling in front of her, something was definitely fishy. “Heidi, please forgive me.”Heidi flinched when he held her knees. She stared at him, frowning. “Forgive you for what, Uncle?”“What did you do Dad!?” Zach hollered, his eyes filled with horror. The others looked fearful as well.Hanging his head, Harold shook it slowly. “I know saying this is probably too late. That night, Heidi didn't lose her child. When the police found her and Natalie, I orchestrated everything that happened after.”Several gasps spread across the room.Avoiding everyone's gaze, Harold said in a melancholic tone. “Having Heidi and Lucas Harrison together at that time meant the end of my sovereignty in this family. I did that to strip Heidi of her position- and…” He

All eyes snapped in Heidi's direction. As her sobs echoed in the living room, they all but sprang to their feet. “Ha! How many times have I told you guys to stop mentioning Heidi's name?” Lilian cried out. “Now I'm seeing Heidi's face instead of this lady who appeared from nowhere with a child!”“Are you seeing Heidi? I'm also seeing her!” Natalie gasped. “That's impossible, right?”“Unless we're all out of our minds!” Kate cackled. “Because we all might be seeing Heidi.”Lifting her head, Heidi glanced at everyone's face. Her gaze stopped at her mother whose expression was deadly pale. “Th- This- This isn't Heidi. ~During the car ride, Heidi's mind was muddled with different kinds of thoughts that brought worry to her heart. Her only solace was the little girl sitting beside her, holding her hand. “You're so quiet, Mommy…” she asked, “Is everything alright?”Heidi smiled, parting her hair to the side. “I'm okay, Baby.”“Where are we headed?” She murmured, glancing out of the car's window. “You brought me back, Mommy. Are you gonna drop me off at Nanny's place and disappear again.”Smoothing the tiny frown on the girl's forehead, Heidi's heart ached as she kept repeating that word. Disappearing hadn't be easy, and appearing again would definitely incure many repercussions. Heidi picked her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her. “I'd rather die than to disappear again.”Here she was, loathing death, something she'd actually been craving for the past three years. Her heart was an ocean of emotions and her tears never dried up, so much that her eyes were hurting. “Please, Mommy, stop crying

“For the first time, I'm agreeing with Jason's words.” Freya nodded. “Let's return her to the poor man, Heidi. We'll stay in this paradise forever.”“Don't mind them, I won't let you go.” Heidi patted her hair. She stared at Jason and Freya, communicating with her eyes. The two gave her crestfallen looks and sighed at the same time. That Night;Heidi rested on her bed, holding the baby close, and sniffing the familiar scent on her. Citrus mixed with lavender. The scent of the Harrisons Villa. A scent that only belonged to the man she loved. Whenever she thought of him in the past, she'd feel hate and remorse, but now… the thought of him brought fear to her heart, and a regret she couldn't deny. Beside her, the little girl shifted. She opened her sleepy eyes, her wide milky eyes blinking. “Why aren't you sleeping, Mommy?”“I just love staring at you.” H

From caressing the girl's hair, Heidi found herself drawing her close, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. “What's your name?” Uncertainty filling her heart, she asked in a hoarse voice. The little girl neither struggled nor made a sound of discomfort, she in fact snuggled deeper into Heidi's embrace. She murmured, “Nanny calls me Didi, but Daddy calls me Heidi.”Heidi shut her eyes, swallowing down a sudden lump in her throat. A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That's a beautiful name you have, Baby.”However, the little girl pulled away, furrowing her brows. “But my first Mommy dislikes it. She once argued with Daddy about it.”“Oh, is that so?” Sniffing back the tears threatening to burst out, Heidi forced a smile. “Why doesn't she like your name?”“Because she's a meanie. No tourists are allowed with a helicopter!”As Jason matched out of the room, Freya snickered. “He's doing a bad job managing this place. Too bad none of us can be in charge.”Under the pretense of working for the AG Group and managing the resorts here, Jason had moved to the mystic Island to be with her. One coincidence led to the guy clinging onto her.Driven by curiosity, he'd wandered into this cabin on a particular day, which was rumored to be haunted, and that was how he found her and Freya. Wondering if Jason was going to send the father and daughter back even though she didn't like that idea, Heidi carried on with her day, taking a walk down the empty beach separated from the resort’s area. … Waking up the next morning to a foreboding feeling in her chest was enough sign that her peaceful days on this Island were over. Our days of hiding here will be over… we'll need to go to any nearby city for your treatment, and the police won't have mercy once they catch me.”Heidi sighed inside. Did she faint last night? Her only cure was ultimate happiness, something she doubted she was ever going to find on this Island or anywhere in this world. “If I have a heart attack someday, don't bother yourself, Freya… let me die and-”“Please, Heidi… stop it,” Freya whispered. “How dare you wish death upon yourself?
