Heidi was tired.

Exhausted,

And exasperated at the same time.

Again, he was telling her to come back to him. This was the thousandth time or probably the millionth time he had asked her that.

“I hate repeating myself, Lucas.”

“Neither do I, Heidi.”

“I told you I'm never gonna come back to you. If you are tired of your mistress already, I am sure there are many other girls who admire you in Phoenix City.”

“But I don't want any of those girls.” He pulled a hair strand out of her eyes, his expression tender. “Among all the girls in Phoenix City, you're the only one I want.”

Heidi looked at him, and he stared back, neither blinking nor averting his gaze.

Her heart did a strange drumming which she wished more than anything else that he wouldn't hear.

“I don't admire you, Lucas.”

“I know you once did,” he sighed. “Didn't you confess your love to me, Heidi? Did that love suddenly vanish?”

“Yes…” Heidi nodded, her voice a whisper that simmered in the air.

His expression flashed with hurt, the

“Who said I'm hungry for your food!?” Heidi yelled. Now that her limbs were finally freed, she desired nothing more than to hit him and kick him.But moving close to him might be her greatest undoing. The man might do something as crazy as caging her in his arms, the way he did last night. So she took several steps backward, giving him a warning look. “Lucas Harrison, get off my Island. If not, the authorities will toss you out!”Lucas disregarded her words. “Heidi, please come back. After so many weeks, I finally had a good sleep. Will you not move in with me?”“Crazy man!!! Maniac!!!” Heidi screamed, taking to her heels. “If you ever come after me again, I'll poke your eyes out!!!”Her scream receded, its echoes resonating in the Villa's walls.Lucas dropped his hands, his eyes straying to the bed, a subtle and mischievous smile forming on his lips.Picking up his phone, he entered the phone's gallery and tapped into some photos. Not only did she look cute sleeping, but she also lo

Fortunately, something else caught Isla's attention before she investigated further. Her phone rang and she answered it. “Oh, you guys are here?” She said. “Then come straight to the resort, Ms. Olsen will be waiting for you.”Isla hung up and hurried Heidi up. “It's the crew from the construction company. They're almost near, Ms. Olsen. Please get ready.”“Are the documents ready?” Heidi asked, and Isla nodded. “I spent the whole night last night preparing them.”Heidi hurried inside the resort. She took a bath, and changed into a silky white blouse, almost transparent, atop a mini short. And she lingered in front of the mirror, studying her figure, her palms cupping her abdomen. Her eyes turned sullen and she blew out a sigh.Should she be relieved that her baby bump hadn't started showing yet?Once it appeared, would people notice it? How would she be able to walk around without being self-aware of the peering gazes? And more importantly, when would her baby bump appear? Those

Glancing over her shoulder, not only did Heidi have the urge to scream out loud, she wanted to lunge at the man and tear him apart. The architect looked alarmed, his pupils dilating, and his jaws dropped. “M-Mr. Harrison.” He scrambled to his feet. “L-Lucas Harrison, it's you.”“Sit down,” Lucas said, and the guy staggered back onto the chair, his flabbergasted eyes fixed on the mighty man.Lucas sat on the third chair leisurely, acknowledging Heidi only for some seconds before he turned to the architect. “If you want to transform this Island into a tourists' paradise, build more Villas.”“Huh?” The architect looked back and forth between him and Heidi. “Mr. Harrison-''“Do what I say-”“No, don't take orders from him.” Heidi had been glaring at the man to the point that her eyes hurt.Fuming, she kept in her rage and returned her attention to the architect. “Raymond, we'll build more resorts.”“Building Villas will bring in a lot of money,” Lucas said. “Tourists from the highest leve

Lucas's statement made Heidi frown in displeasure. It was as if the tourists would be here to live in a second home, catering to their own needs, instead of escaping the hectic life phase of the city and living carefreely, without any care in the world. That wasn't gonna work.Heidi looked at Raymond. “We will build chains of restaurants and fast food spots, so the tourists don't need to bother about cooking. There will be other business centers such as the laundry, the spa, and also hair salons and cyber càfe, catering to their daily needs.”Raymond nodded thoughtfully, jotting everything down. “Ms. Olsen, you come up with good ideas.”Heidi didn't know if her ideas were good. She just knew that she wouldn't follow a single of Lucas's advice.Raymond got to his feet. “I will design the layout and return to you. Then we can make some adjustments or proceed with the construction. Please have a good day, Ms. Olsen, Mr. Harrison.”He left shortly, and Heidi stared at the man looking ac

“No! No! No! Put me down!” Heidi screamed with all her might, deafening his ears. “If you don't put me down, Lucas Harrison, I swear I'll bite you on the neck.”And she wasn't joking. She sank her sharp teeth into his neck, making him wince, almost dropping her on the sand.“Heidi!” Lucas exclaimed, rubbing the spot.“Put me down!” She beat at his back. “Lucas Harrison, won't you learn your lesson?”Of course, he wouldn't learn. Even after she bit his neck, he held on tight to her, striding towards the resort entrance.Lucas brought out his phone with one hand and dialed a number.“Get the helicopter ready! We're heading back to Phoenix City this instant-”“No! Let go of me!” Heidi screamed into his ear.“Stop it, Heidi. You're clearly not well-”“Which is none of your concern!” She yelled and bit his ear. “Ow- Ouch!” As if he was holding a hot object, Lucas quickly put her down and rubbed his ear. “Heidi, when did you turn into a carnivore?”Heidi planted her feet on the ground an

Nothing, Mr. Harrison.” Amanda waved both hands fearfully. Then she sat on the couch across from him, giving him a serious look. “Our plan is not going to work if you don't follow my instructions.”“That's because they are silly.”“Mr. Harrison…” Amanda gave him a helpless look. “I wouldn't give you advice that will fail. After all, you are paying me for it. Don't you want your ex-wife back?”“It's my only mission.”“Then only listen to my advice. Instead of forcing Ms. Olsen- I mean Mrs. Harrison to do things she doesn't like, why don't you stop intruding?”“Like letting her hang out with strange men?” Lucas gave her a hard look.Amanda shook her head. “No, that's not what I mean. ~The rest of the day went by smoothly without Lucas getting in her way. He was probably still in his Villa, tending to his eyes, or maybe he had flown back to Phoenix City. Heidi couldn't care less.Sitting in front of the fire with some of the construction company's crew, Heidi's eyes strayed out of the resort, across the ocean, over to the lonely Villa that stood on a small Island.“Ms. Olsen, may we please have your attention?” Said one of the guys.Heidi looked away, giving them her attention. “Yes, please. I'm listening.”The men exchanged glances before one of them passed out a document to her. “We have been discussing the expenses the construction materials will cover. We need your signature on these documents before we proceed with supplying the materials.”“Ms. Olsen, by purchasing the materials from them directly, it will cost us less,” Isla explained, handing her the documents. “And we won't need to brainstorm on what materials to buy, they know the things they'll need an

Lucas Harrison must have colluded with those men.”“You mean they snuck the certificate inside the documents?” Isla looked exasperated. And if in case the certificate with her signature reached those men's hands, they would take it directly to Lucas Harrison-Heidi gasped at the possibility of what might have occurred if that happened. If Isla hadn't noticed it…“Ms. Olsen, Mr. Harrison is bent on making you sign this certificate-”“Which is nev

Heidi sprang to a sitting position instantly, hearing the voice coming from the door. Dread washed over, and instinctively, she pulled her baby into her arms, her eyes darting around for any possible escape route. Heidi's first instinct was to flee, but to where?“Daddy?” Her daughter, on the other hand, jumped in excitement. “Hey, Mommy! It's Daddy! Daddy's here!”The door's handle shifted as someone juggled it from the outside. The sounds of knocking increased. “Heidi, are you inside?”Lost at what to do, Heidi just stared at the door, hugging her baby. Lucas barged into the room as he kicked the door open. He came to a screeching halt right in front of her, almost colliding into the bed. “Heidi…” as he whispered her name, Heidi's eyes locked into his. Except for the subtle changes; his once dark eyes now crystal clear, his stubbled jaws and overall demeanor, everything about him was the same. All eyes turned to Harold, some blinking in shock and the rest widening. Heidi was confused too that of all people, Harold Olsen was the one who believed her.But from the look of guilt on his face and the way he sank onto the floor, literally kneeling in front of her, something was definitely fishy. “Heidi, please forgive me.”Heidi flinched when he held her knees. She stared at him, frowning. “Forgive you for what, Uncle?”“What did you do Dad!?” Zach hollered, his eyes filled with horror. The others looked fearful as well.Hanging his head, Harold shook it slowly. “I know saying this is probably too late. That night, Heidi didn't lose her child. When the police found her and Natalie, I orchestrated everything that happened after.”Several gasps spread across the room.Avoiding everyone's gaze, Harold said in a melancholic tone. “Having Heidi and Lucas Harrison together at that time meant the end of my sovereignty in this family. I did that to strip Heidi of her position- and…” He

All eyes snapped in Heidi's direction. As her sobs echoed in the living room, they all but sprang to their feet. “Ha! How many times have I told you guys to stop mentioning Heidi's name?” Lilian cried out. “Now I'm seeing Heidi's face instead of this lady who appeared from nowhere with a child!”“Are you seeing Heidi? I'm also seeing her!” Natalie gasped. “That's impossible, right?”“Unless we're all out of our minds!” Kate cackled. “Because we all might be seeing Heidi.”Lifting her head, Heidi glanced at everyone's face. Her gaze stopped at her mother whose expression was deadly pale. “Th- This- This isn't Heidi. ~During the car ride, Heidi's mind was muddled with different kinds of thoughts that brought worry to her heart. Her only solace was the little girl sitting beside her, holding her hand. “You're so quiet, Mommy…” she asked, “Is everything alright?”Heidi smiled, parting her hair to the side. “I'm okay, Baby.”“Where are we headed?” She murmured, glancing out of the car's window. “You brought me back, Mommy. Are you gonna drop me off at Nanny's place and disappear again.”Smoothing the tiny frown on the girl's forehead, Heidi's heart ached as she kept repeating that word. Disappearing hadn't be easy, and appearing again would definitely incure many repercussions. Heidi picked her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her. “I'd rather die than to disappear again.”Here she was, loathing death, something she'd actually been craving for the past three years. Her heart was an ocean of emotions and her tears never dried up, so much that her eyes were hurting. “Please, Mommy, stop crying

“For the first time, I'm agreeing with Jason's words.” Freya nodded. “Let's return her to the poor man, Heidi. She's not lost.”“Please don't let them take me away, Mommy.” The little girl hugged Heidi's arm. “I promise I'll be obedient. We'll stay in this paradise forever.”“Don't mind them, I won't let you go.” Heidi patted her hair. She stared at Jason and Freya, communicating with her eyes. The two gave her crestfallen looks and sighed at the same time. That Night;Heidi rested on her bed, holding the baby close, and sniffing the familiar scent on her. Citrus mixed with lavender. The scent of the Harrisons Villa. A scent that only belonged to the man she loved. Whenever she thought of him in the past, she'd feel hate and remorse, but now… the thought of him brought fear to her heart, and a regret she couldn't deny. Beside her, the little girl shifted. She opened her sleepy eyes, her wide milky eyes blinking. “Why aren't you sleeping, Mommy?”“I just love staring at you.” H

From caressing the girl's hair, Heidi found herself drawing her close, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. “What's your name?” Uncertainty filling her heart, she asked in a hoarse voice. The little girl neither struggled nor made a sound of discomfort, she in fact snuggled deeper into Heidi's embrace. She murmured, “Nanny calls me Didi, but Daddy calls me Heidi.”Heidi shut her eyes, swallowing down a sudden lump in her throat. A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That's a beautiful name you have, Baby.”However, the little girl pulled away, furrowing her brows. “But my first Mommy dislikes it. She once argued with Daddy about it.”“Oh, is that so?” Sniffing back the tears threatening to burst out, Heidi forced a smile. “Why doesn't she like your name?”“Because she's a meanie. No tourists are allowed with a helicopter!”As Jason matched out of the room, Freya snickered. “He's doing a bad job managing this place. Too bad none of us can be in charge.”Under the pretense of working for the AG Group and managing the resorts here, Jason had moved to the mystic Island to be with her. One coincidence led to the guy clinging onto her.Driven by curiosity, he'd wandered into this cabin on a particular day, which was rumored to be haunted, and that was how he found her and Freya. Wondering if Jason was going to send the father and daughter back even though she didn't like that idea, Heidi carried on with her day, taking a walk down the empty beach separated from the resort’s area. … Waking up the next morning to a foreboding feeling in her chest was enough sign that her peaceful days on this Island were over. The moment she opened her eyes, someone hugged her. “What am I gonna do with you, Heidi…” Freya murmured. “An emotional outburst can cause you a second heart attack, and that will be the end of us. Our days of hiding here will be over… we'll need to go to any nearby city for your treatment, and the police won't have mercy once they catch me.”Heidi sighed inside. Did she faint last night? Her only cure was ultimate happiness, something she doubted she was ever going to find on this Island or anywhere in this world. “If I have a heart attack someday, don't bother yourself, Freya… let me die and-”“Please, Heidi… stop it,” Freya whispered. “How dare you wish death upon yourself?
