“There are my two favourite girls.” My dad walked into my room as we just got back.
“Hi Daddy.” I walk over and hugged him and bowed her head. “Hi Alpha Devlin.” “None of that Cassie, when it’s just us, I’ve told you just to call me Dev.” Cas blushed and nodded. “Can I speak with my daughter alone for a minute?” “Of course, Alpha.” Cas looked at me with a tiny bit of panic in her eyes as she turned away. I tried to reassure her, but I couldn’t do much. She knew exactly what this conversation was about. I followed my father to his office and sat down with Ronnie and him. “Talk.” “What is going on in this pack, Dad?” “What do you mean?” “Why are unranked she-wolves lording their power over the weaker wolves?” I looked over at Ronnie and he looked away. “You obviously know what I am talking about. The beta and gamma female here are doing what, exactly?” “Hey!” Ronnie looked at me. “That isn’t fair.” “I’m not saying it’s fair.” I looked back at my father. “You are letting your pack crumble from within and I want to know why.” I stared my father in the eye until Loki was growling back at me but Nix growled right back. I refused to back down when a pack I loved was falling apart. The rumble of his threat got louder, but I held firm. My dad finally smiled and Nix receded. “You have grown up.” I nodded, but I raised my eyebrow and my father huffed. “It wasn’t supposed to fall so quickly.” “What are you even talking about?” “It was Ronnie’s plan.” My father started, and I cut my eye to my uncle, who went a little pale. “Look, I thought it would work.” “What exactly?” “I thought if your mother saw her friends and family falling apart, she would come back.” My father’s voice grew quiet with each word. I threw up my hands in frustrations. “She doesn’t speak to anyone here anymore. She asked the Alpha to forbid anyone from speaking to her about your pack so she could have peace.” I shook my head. “What were you thinking?” “I wasn’t.” My dad put his head in his hands. “It’s been years, Amy. Years without my mate.” “I know.” I got up and hugged him from the side. “Mom thinks you betrayed her, and she is pretty broken up about it still.” “I know. But I thought her luna duties would override the betrayal.” My dad looked up at me and I laughed at his face. “You are a stupid man, dad.” I just shook my head and sat back down. I turned on Ronnie. “And so are you, uncle.” “Hey!” He called out, but I just looked at him until he nodded. “We have to fix your pack this summer, too. I won’t be able to go back to mom’s pack without knowing this bullshit has stopped.” “Okay sugar. We can fix it.” “No, no, you can’t.” I felt Nix agree with my thoughts before I voiced them. “This is for the women to fix. I want the beta and gamma to meet with me before the party tonight.” My dad jolted back in surprise and I laughed. “You asked my best friend to keep a surprise from me, dad. First off, stupid move. You know she can’t keep a secret. Second, even if she hadn’t blurted out the truth, I would have figured out something from Aurora.” I cut my eyes to my father, and I watched his cloud over. “Ugh, now you’ve done it.” Ronnie huffed out a breath before sitting back. “What?” “Any time someone says her name, or he sees her, his eyes glaze over and he won’t shut the heck up about her.” “She is so beautiful. The most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” “Even prettier than my mom.” I threw it out without a thought, knowing he would say no, but to my surprise, without even hesitating, he said yes. “Of course, your mother doesn’t even hold a candle to the beauty of Aurora.” I got to my feet and walked over, grabbing my dad’s face as I felt something was amiss. His eyes were still unfocused. “Is it always like this when her name is mentioned?” “Yup. For at least five minutes, then he goes back to being normal like nothing happened.” Ronnie rolled his eyes. “And this is normal to you?” I looked at Ronnie over my shoulder and noticed his eyes were unfocused as well. “Yeah, why wouldn’t it be?” Ronnie’s eyes looked through me. And I knew something was wrong. “Dad?” I pulled his face to mine and swiped my cheek against his, sending a little of my aura out at the same time, and my dad pulled away. “Sweetie, how did you get over here?” My dad smiled, and I felt my knees go weak. Something was horribly wrong here. And I didn’t have long to figure it out.Everyone turned to find the Moon Goddess staring at us from the corner of the room. Even my mother and Wendy came out when they heard the voice. As soon as they stumbled out of the bathroom door, they slammed to their knees. “Moon Goddess.” My mother dropped her head to the floor. “Please forgive Alannah’s earlier words.” A scent of fear drifted from her. “She is hormonal and emotional at the loss of her mate; she didn’t mean it.”Wendy was next. “Please forgive her.” She bowed to the floor, and together they stayed there. The Moon Goddess looked confused for a second. The emotion seemed foreign to her ethereal face. “Rise, Luna.” She stepped forward and reached down a hand to my confused mother. “I am not here to punish the new mother. I am here because I am paying a debt.”My mother sat back on her heels, eyes growing wide when she saw the offered hand. “What do you mean?” She slipped her hand into the Goddess’s hand, and she stood. “A debt?”The goddess nodded. She turned to Wendy
I opened the door to…chaos. Wendy was hovering at the side, while my mother was between Alannah’s legs. Alannah, the sweet girl, was screaming her head off. “Fuck this, it hurts.” She sobbed at the ceiling while my mother patted the outside of her thigh. “You are doing great, Momma. Just breathe.” My mother soothed, and I felt her push her soothing aura out, but Alannah wasn’t settling. She reared up, a contraction hitting her, and she screamed as she clutched the blankets at her sides.“Fuck you. Fuck you Ternen. How could he leave me tonight?” She screamed to the ceiling, to the sky. If she could, she would be screaming it to him. “Fuck you too, Moon Goddess…how could you do this to me and my babies.”“Hush love. The Goddess is kind, but there are lines.” My mother rubbed her knee trying to calm her down before she crossed it, but Alannah still cried.“No!” She shook her head in anger. “This isn’t fair.” She sobbed as the contraction broke and she dropped back down onto the bed, pa
I shook my head. I had to think of what I would say next. I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “When the goddess was giving me power, I felt something.”He cupped my cheek. “Tell me.” The trust and devotion in his eyes settled me. “My babe.” His breath caught.“You're pregnant with my pup?” I shook my head.“Shush. Just listen.” I grabbed his hands. “When the goddess was filling me with power, when it reached my stomach, I felt it. The flutter of life.” I struggled to find the words. “But it was familiar. One I had grown to know, one I had memorized.” His brow furrowed. “You aren’t making much sense. All babies move the same.” He tried to make sense of my jumbled words. I shook my head. “In my first life.” I think in that moment he started to understand, and his face turned a little sad. “What are you saying, Amy?” Toya’s voice was soft. But I could feel her behind me.I shook my head. “I’m just going to say it out loud, and then we can argue about the ridiculousness of it.” Ro
Everyone spun from the grave to see Alannah bent over in pain. Her hands were clutching her heavy belly as she stared down at the barely filled grave. “No…it’s too soon. They aren’t ready.” She turned to look at me, and I could see the panic there. My mother grabbed for her side. “I don’t think they agree with you, Momma.” She wrapped her arm around her back, and Wendy stepped up to my side, taking my place. “Baby?” My mother looked at me over her shoulder as she spun the groaning Alannah back towards the cabin. “Yeah?” I felt my stomach clench as I watched as my friend was herded away. “Finish here. Then come upstairs.” She turned away as Rowan stepped up next to me. “I don’t think we have the time to stay for the birth.” His voice was soft, but Toya came back to our side. She closed her eyes for a second and she shook her head. “All the mindlinks from my pack were severed.” Her voice was soft but filled with worry. “I’ve been trying to reach my father since the battle.”I reache
I leaned against the side of the cabin, and Rowan settled next to me. “That was…” His voice was soft, and hesitant. “A lot.” I finished. He laughed. “It’s gone.” He looked back at the grave.“What’s gone?” I turned to look at him.H waved his hand at me. “Your mark. You are back to normal.” He smiled. “Which is great because I missed your normal eyes.” He leaned over and kissed me. “You are so beautiful.”I snorted. “I’m covered in dirt, blood, and I don’t want to think about what else.” He cupped my cheek and stared down into my eyes. “That changes nothing. You are still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” He kissed me again as the door slammed open.“Get a room, you two.” Rick limped out, a bruise healing on his face. “You look rough.” I grabbed for him as he stumbled over the hose. “Yeah…I’m still weak from Vince. So healing is taking a little longer.” He winced as he licked the corner of my mouth. “Can’t worry about it too much.” He settled next to us as he nodded ove
Rowan stared at me for another long second before he traced my forehead with a finger. “Your Goddess Blessed.” He sounded breathless and surprised. I nodded, staring into his eyes. “Yes…” I furrowed my brow. “I thought you knew.” A soft light rippled on his face, and I looked up to the sky, trying to see if the moon was trying to shine down on us through the clouds.“I did.” He tilted his head, still staring at me. “But hearing it and seeing it are two very different things. This,” he waved his hand. “Is different.”“What do you mean?” I looked from him to Alannah and then landed on my mother. “Mom?”“Your mark…your eyes…they changed.” She pointed to her own forehead. “It was a normal Goddess Blessed mark, the crescent moon. But now it’s more…” She trailed as she leaned closer. “I don’t know why.”“More?” I looked back at Rowan. “, More how?”He pulled his phone from his pocket and aimed it at my face. I heard the click of his camera as he took the photo. He turned the screen towards
