Masuk“There are my two favourite girls.” My dad walked into my room as we just got back.
“Hi Daddy.” I walk over and hugged him and bowed her head. “Hi Alpha Devlin.” “None of that Cassie, when it’s just us, I’ve told you just to call me Dev.” Cas blushed and nodded. “Can I speak with my daughter alone for a minute?” “Of course, Alpha.” Cas looked at me with a tiny bit of panic in her eyes as she turned away. I tried to reassure her, but I couldn’t do much. She knew exactly what this conversation was about. I followed my father to his office and sat down with Ronnie and him. “Talk.” “What is going on in this pack, Dad?” “What do you mean?” “Why are unranked she-wolves lording their power over the weaker wolves?” I looked over at Ronnie and he looked away. “You obviously know what I am talking about. The beta and gamma female here are doing what, exactly?” “Hey!” Ronnie looked at me. “That isn’t fair.” “I’m not saying it’s fair.” I looked back at my father. “You are letting your pack crumble from within and I want to know why.” I stared my father in the eye until Loki was growling back at me but Nix growled right back. I refused to back down when a pack I loved was falling apart. The rumble of his threat got louder, but I held firm. My dad finally smiled and Nix receded. “You have grown up.” I nodded, but I raised my eyebrow and my father huffed. “It wasn’t supposed to fall so quickly.” “What are you even talking about?” “It was Ronnie’s plan.” My father started, and I cut my eye to my uncle, who went a little pale. “Look, I thought it would work.” “What exactly?” “I thought if your mother saw her friends and family falling apart, she would come back.” My father’s voice grew quiet with each word. I threw up my hands in frustrations. “She doesn’t speak to anyone here anymore. She asked the Alpha to forbid anyone from speaking to her about your pack so she could have peace.” I shook my head. “What were you thinking?” “I wasn’t.” My dad put his head in his hands. “It’s been years, Amy. Years without my mate.” “I know.” I got up and hugged him from the side. “Mom thinks you betrayed her, and she is pretty broken up about it still.” “I know. But I thought her luna duties would override the betrayal.” My dad looked up at me and I laughed at his face. “You are a stupid man, dad.” I just shook my head and sat back down. I turned on Ronnie. “And so are you, uncle.” “Hey!” He called out, but I just looked at him until he nodded. “We have to fix your pack this summer, too. I won’t be able to go back to mom’s pack without knowing this bullshit has stopped.” “Okay sugar. We can fix it.” “No, no, you can’t.” I felt Nix agree with my thoughts before I voiced them. “This is for the women to fix. I want the beta and gamma to meet with me before the party tonight.” My dad jolted back in surprise and I laughed. “You asked my best friend to keep a surprise from me, dad. First off, stupid move. You know she can’t keep a secret. Second, even if she hadn’t blurted out the truth, I would have figured out something from Aurora.” I cut my eyes to my father, and I watched his cloud over. “Ugh, now you’ve done it.” Ronnie huffed out a breath before sitting back. “What?” “Any time someone says her name, or he sees her, his eyes glaze over and he won’t shut the heck up about her.” “She is so beautiful. The most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” “Even prettier than my mom.” I threw it out without a thought, knowing he would say no, but to my surprise, without even hesitating, he said yes. “Of course, your mother doesn’t even hold a candle to the beauty of Aurora.” I got to my feet and walked over, grabbing my dad’s face as I felt something was amiss. His eyes were still unfocused. “Is it always like this when her name is mentioned?” “Yup. For at least five minutes, then he goes back to being normal like nothing happened.” Ronnie rolled his eyes. “And this is normal to you?” I looked at Ronnie over my shoulder and noticed his eyes were unfocused as well. “Yeah, why wouldn’t it be?” Ronnie’s eyes looked through me. And I knew something was wrong. “Dad?” I pulled his face to mine and swiped my cheek against his, sending a little of my aura out at the same time, and my dad pulled away. “Sweetie, how did you get over here?” My dad smiled, and I felt my knees go weak. Something was horribly wrong here. And I didn’t have long to figure it out.We trailed out the front door, and down the pathway to the backyard. Our bare feet barely made a sound as we walked through the grass. With every step, I felt a little jolt of power from the Earth. I tried to send a pulse of power back, but it bounced back.Gaia’s voice slipped into my mind. A small gift for you on your blessed day. May your life be full of love, little one. She pulled away, and I felt the loss. We turned at the corner of the house, and my breath caught. The backyard had been transformed. Chairs were arranged in a semicircle with an aisle in the middle. “It looks like a human wedding.” I whispered to my dad. She chuckled. “Your mother said you spent years watching human movies growing up. She said you wanted a wedding when you were eight. So we made the ceremony into one for you.” He turned to look at me. “Do you like it?” I looked up at my father, and I nodded. “Thank you, Daddy.”He took a deep breath, and I watched a tear fall. He shook his head and used his ro
“You look beautiful.” My mom’s voice was still hesitant as she braided my hair. I smiled. “Thank you.” I blew out a breath. “Mom…” I started but my voice trailed off. “I’m sorry.” She spun my chair. I opened my eyes to see that she was already crying. “I am so sorry, baby.” She looked down at her hands. “You were right yesterday.” “What?” The exhaustion still ate at my concentration. My mother looked up, and a tear fell. “What are you talking about?”She sighed as she grabbed my hand. “You were right.” She tightened her grip, almost as if she was afraid I would pull away. “When you said that, I knew. Your father had told me everything he was doing. Hell, half of them we made together. And I am so sorry.” She looked up, trying to stop the tears. “I’m not trying to ruin my makeup. It’s perfect.” She shook her head before she turned back to me. “We should have been honest with you. We should have come clean when we started to suspect that Rowan was your mate.”“We should have.” My fat
I felt the agreement ripple down my arm, through my chest, and settle low in my stomach. Hades nodded once before he dropped my hand. “Say your goodbyes.” He looked down at Lynn. “I’ll give you two minutes.”Lynn smiled as she stood. She turned and walked to my parents. She murmured to them, and both of them started to cry. I stood on shaking legs and turned to Hades. “Why do I feel you agreed way easier than you normally do?”He smiled. “Because you are right. Normally, I wouldn’t agree to a swap. But everyone has a weakness…and family is mine.” He walked over to me and clapped me on the back. “Eventually you will understand. But today is not that day.” He nudged me and then turned away. He walked over to Gaia and the other gods. Hecate waved her hand, and a familiar sound barrier snapped into place so the gods could talk freely. I felt a burning at the base of my skull as I watched them all turn to look at me. “Well, everyone knows who they are talking about.” Toya walked over to
My head whipped around, and my eyes fell on Lynn. She shuffled towards me, pushing past everyone else, and dropped down next to me. “I have only my soul, and my wolf.” She refused to meet my eyes. She was fully focused on Hades. “Is that a fair enough trade?”“Lynn.” I reached out to her. “Why?”She turned to me to hush me. Hades smirked. “Are you both willing?” He tilted his head. “I need to hear it from both of you.” Lynn nodded. “I, Lynn Wetherstone, agree to the trade.” Megan whined, and it slipped from my lips. Why is she giving up her life? Megan hovered at the edge of the trees, torn. I knew Nix, and she was feeding power to the tether, trying to keep it alive, but they were losing. I don’t know. I answered my wolf inside my head. Lynn’s eyes shifted to a burning copper, and her eyes turned to me. “I, Kona, agree to the trade.”Another whimper broke free. “Kona…why?”She smiled. “Lynn won’t say it, but I will.” Kona turned to me and grabbed my free hand. “Because she is bro
Everyone turned to Carly to see her eyes glassy white. “Oracle.” Hecate bowed her head. “Mother.” Carly’s tiny face smiled. “It has been a long time.”Hecate nodded as her lips turned up. “How has Selene been treating you?”Carly grinned. “You saved me a lot of pain taking me from Apollo.” She bowed her tiny body. “I never got to thank you properly.” She sat back up and turned to me. “But I think now I can.”“What do you mean?” I focused on my pup, but I felt nothing. All my love was dead along with my mate. The guilt hit after my realization. Carly deserved better than what I could give her. She tilted her head. “You are feeling guilty. But you don’t need to. You are stronger than you feel at this moment. Even if your mate stayed with the goddess, you would still do right by this pup.” She nodded to me. “You still have a lot of love; you just don’t feel it right now.” She turned back to the gods. “We still might be able to save the King.”Selene dropped to her knees. “Shaman, are y
Both of my parents looked like I had stabbed them. They dropped to the ground with their arms hanging at their sides. “Amy…” They both raised a hand to reach for me but I turned back to the Goddesses. “Did you know?” My question was cold. But both shook their heads. Selene dropped to her knees first. “I cannot see the future. I can only see when things take a turn. I have given everything I could to support you. To save you from your last fate.” She turned to Rowan and ran a hand down his head. “I didn’t want this outcome.”“Bring him back.” I winced at the command in my voice. “I’m sorry.” I looked up and met her stare. “Please. I’ll do anything. Bring him back, or let me go.” My hand gripped my chest as what was left of my heart throbbed in pain. Selene cupped my face. “I can’t.” She kissed my brow as a whi9mper slipped from my lips. She stood and moved back, Hecate taking her spot. She lifted my face and kissed my brow too. “Let’s see if the spell will survive without you firs
