My mom sobbed into his chest. “Don’t say that Gav. I am so sorry. I betrayed you.”

He forced her face to meet his. “Look at me Ain. Never say that. This isn’t on you. Everything for the last seventeen years everything that happened was because of me and my decisions. And I realized that a long time ago. I never blamed you, not once.”

“Gav, how can you say that?” She closed her eyes. “I can’t imagine…”

My dad looked at her and gave her a soft smile. “Can’t imagine what?”

“Why would you forgive me after everything? I treated you so badly. I had to do-

My dad covered her mouth with his hand. “You did what you had to do to keep our pup safe. Just like I did what I had to do to keep you safe.”

“Gavin. You can’t mean that.” My heart broke at her words. How could she not see just how much he loved her?

He leaned in and kissed her lips softly. “I love you, Ainsley. I never stopped loving you. I didn’t blame you for anything before, and then when Amy told me the truth, I felt like I was dyin

I spun in a circle. Where was I?“You said you trusted me.” The Maiden stepped up next to me; her youthful face was glowing. “I do.” I answered. “Then follow, and see the truth.” She walked through the trees, and I followed. The leaves that were brown and should have crunched underfoot remained whole. The Maiden walked above it all for a while but then, between one step and another, her feet connected to the ground. “Who’s there?” A deep voice called out in the darkness, and I watched her hesitate before stepping out from behind a bush. “Henny.” The voice warmed, and there were footsteps that rushed out to meet her. I stepped out from behind the bushes and froze. That face. I knew that face. He was still so young, just barely twenty, but his face was bright. “I have missed you, my love.” He wrapped the goddess in his arms, and they kissed. I felt my face fall in surprise. The last time I saw this young man, he was covered in wolf bites, on the verge of death. The Moon Goddess brou

The green smoke curled around me, and I felt as it trickled down my throat. There was movement, but my entire vision was filled with the smoke. I felt tears spring to my eyes as I choked. I felt my body trying to repel the smoke as it tried to get in. Relax. A youthful voice called to me, and I realized it was the Maiden’s voice. Your body is fighting my entry. I closed my eyes. This was the goddess. Of course, it is. Why did you think it was anything else? She giggled, and I forced my body to relax. I don’t know. The Moon Goddess just fills my body when she wants to take over. I tossed back. The Three-faced goddess laughed, her voice becoming older. That’s because your wolves are tied to her. She enters through the same bridge they take when they have to go to someone else. A backdoor, if you will. Why can’t you take that doorway? I choked again as my throat tried to force her out again. Swallow. Rowan’s voice bounced in my mind. It might help. I wanted to snort, but I tried i

Theo stared at her face for a long moment. Then he bared his teeth and tried to lunge at our faces. “You aren’t the Goddess. You are using magic to make me think you are Selene.” He growled low. The Goddess lifted her hand while a smirk touched her lips. “Why? Because I am not some benevolent god that forgives whatever sins you partake in? I can not be the Goddess because after you turned away from me, I am not forgiving?” She laughed. “I can prove it if you like.”“Moon Goddess…” My mother breathed out, and the Goddess turned to look at her. “I w3as always taught you can’t interfere.” She chuckled again, using my throat. “I can’t but this is a loophole. I am not actually interfering. Amy is doing everything. I just so happen to be here, observing.”A shadow stepped from the4 wall and everyone gasped. The woman’s face was hidden, but I still saw the shifting shadow that was her face. “Who the fuck is that?” Theo screamed, panicking at the figure. “Sister.” I felt the Goddess tense.

Theo thrashed against the bindings, but he was tied too tightly to the chair to move much. “You can’t do this.” He screamed in the small room.I just rubbed my ear with my free hand as I walked over. “Sure, I can.” I grabbed the small rolling table from the wall and loaded the tools I wanted. “I will say that you aren’t the first person I have tortured. And sure, I could let Rowan or my father do this…but I mean, it’s the twenty-first century. Equality and everything.” I smiled as I pushed the rolling table close enough for Theo to see. His eyes never moved from the tools I had next to him. “Please.” His word was whispered. “Come now, Alpha.” I dropped to my knees and unlaced the boots he had on. “I expected more.” I looked at Rowan for two reasons. I needed to see how he was dealing with this side of me. But his face was a calm mask. Worry gnawed at me but I pressed on. “How old is Theo here?”Rowan turned his hard eyes to mine. “At least four hundred.” I nodded once before turnin

Theo screamed as the blood poured from his mouth. Rowan let go of his mouth and stepped back. “Shut up.” I smacked him once. “You are a wolf, for Goddess’ sake. Act like it.” I shook my head as he whined. “It’s already healed. Enough.” I backed up to the table and dropped the pliers. “Now talk, or we will just leave.”He shut up after that. “Why did you go and do that?” He growled. My father snorted. “Did you think we were just going to trust you not to commit suicide? I mean, your little band of traitors created the false tooth for exactly this scenario.” He stepped up to the chair and grabbed the armrests, leaning over Theo. “This way, you can talk to your heart’s content, but you can’t end your life to escape.” My dad pushed back. “Now, listen to your Queen. Talk.”Theo’s eyes glowered at me. “You are actually mated?” The disbelief in his voice was thick. I just nodded and then pulled my shirt to the side. “Yep.” I popped the p at the end of the word. “Goddess blessed and everythi

Both Rowan and I turned to my dad. “A spell attacking our bond?” Rowan’s voice was soft. “Who is still alive with magic?”I shook my head. “Everyone I have known so far is dead.” I blew out a breath. “Looks like we aren’t out of the woods yet.”My dad snorted. “We are never out of the woods, pup.” He nodded towards the bowl still in my hands. “Are you ready?”I nodded. “Can you give us a minute?” I asked my parents to go ahead. “Of course, baby.” My mom kissed my cheek as she skirted past us down the stairs, and my father clapped Rowan on the shoulder as he stepped past us. I snapped a barrier into place. Rowan lifted one brow, and I shrugged. “I don’t want anyone to hear what we have to say, and I don’t know who we should trust.” He bobbed his head, agreeing with me. “Are we okay?” I hated how insecure I sounded. He stared at me for a second and blew out a breath. “Was it truly magic? Or do you secretly not want to be my Luna?”I panicked and dropped the bowl, reaching for him. Ro
