"What are you doing here, Winston?" Millie looked at the man in front of her suspiciously.

Expressionlessly, Winston replied, "Am I unwelcome?"

He could tell by Millie's change of expression that not only was he unwelcome, but he was also putting her in a bad mood. Was she disappointed that he had been the one standing outside and not Simon?

Julia suddenly called out, "Millie, what's wrong?"

"Nothing! Simon's here. Bye!" As she spoke, she began to pull Winston out with her.

He frowned and looked at Millie, who looked completely unruffled after lying to her family. "So I'm Simon now?" he asked her.

"If you're not afraid of getting chased out with a broom by my dad, feel free to announce who you actually are!" Millie glared at Winston, feeling disgusted.

Winston fell silent.

That really sounded like something Terrence might do.

Millie only let him go when they left the front gates. "What are you doing here again?"

"It's been three days, hasn't it? I'm bringing you to the hospi

Millie raised her eyes and spotted Simon's car nearby. He sat inside and was silently observing them. Soon after, he stepped out and walked toward them. Reacting to his approach, Millie discreetly moved aside, creating a distance between herself and Winston. Her subtle action pricked at Winston's emotions. "Millie, am I late?" Simon asked, his voice playful. "No, not at all," she replied. It was Winston who had arrived early. "Shall I accompany you for your hospital appointment?" he asked. With a nod, Millie agreed and began walking alongside Simon. Winston's grip on Millie's wrist tightened. Beneath the trees, morning sunlight peeked through the branches, casting a soft glow on them. His eyes lingered on Millie's trembling wrist, his throat tightening. With a calm yet cold voice, he asked, "Are you sure about going with him?" Meeting Winston's gaze, Millie found his gaze inscrutable, leaving her perplexed. Perhaps her struggle to understand Winston wasn't confined

Millie watched with confusion as Winston circled and climbed inside the car. She pondered if he was trying to intimidate her, and since when had she become the obstacle preventing their divorce? The situation was so absurd that it was laughable. Simon, who was standing by the car, observed Winston with a puzzled expression. After a brief moment, he crossed his arms and leaned against the vehicle, letting out a resigned chuckle. Was Winston truly in love with Millie, or was this some sort of game? Recognizing that confronting Winston directly would lead nowhere, Millie opted for a softer approach. She flashed a radiant smile and said sincerely, "Mr. Greer, I appreciate your concern. But since Simon is here, it wouldn't be polite to let him leave on his own, would it?" Winston lifted his gaze, locking eyes with Millie's captivating ones. Her smile was as enchanting as a gentle breeze. "Would you rather let me go alone?" Winston moved closer, his intense gaze fixed on Millie

Simon hadn't left. The more Millie resisted, the less Winston seemed willing to let her leave the car. "Sit tight," he coldly warned before flooring the accelerator. The sports car roared away, seemingly flaunting its speed to Simon. Frustrated, Millie texted Simon an apology. Soon came a message from him. "No worries, I was the one who was late." His composed response deepened Millie's sense of regret. Simon's emotional steadiness made him seem like an ideal partner. Yet, her heart struggled to open up again. Casting a fleeting glance at Winston, she noticed his furrowed brow, possibly sensing her gaze. She immediately averted her gaze toward the window. Her emotions were a tangled mess, while her fingers nervously intertwined. Their relationship felt complicated as if a knot impossible to untangle. The car stopped at the hospital entrance. Winston opened the door, and Millie shot him a sidelong glance before heading to the emergency. He trailed behind with

"Win, Mills?" Joanna's voice echoed from behind. Millie and Winston turned, finding Joanna in her white coat with a cup of coffee in hand. Her face briefly stiffened seeing the scene, her lips pressing into a thin line. Mille and Winston together explained why he hadn't answered her calls earlier—he was with Millie. Joanna wondered if he was still hung up on his ex. "Did I interrupt?" she asked, her smile tainted with bitterness. Quickly, Winston explained, "No, Millie hurt her hand at the banquet a few days ago. I'm taking her to her hospital appointment." Millie shot Winston a piercing look, silently condemning his two-faced behavior. Joanna offered a strained smile, her irritation barely concealed. "Thanks to Mills that day, otherwise—" "He's lying," Millie interjected, halting Joanna's words. Winston's eyes narrowed at Millie, wondering what she was up to. Raising her chin, Millie flashed Winston a mischievous grin, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Joanna, kee

Draped in their pristine white coats, the team radiated a vibrant energy. Leading them was Lainey Quinn, a distinguished chief cardiac surgeon in her thirties. Having joined the Bifrost Hospital just a year prior, Lainey's cool demeanor and exceptional medical skills had earned her the title of "Demon Healer". She was the mentor Millie was set to work under.Lainey was deeply engrossed in patient records when she noticed Millie. Millie offered a nod of acknowledgment. "Dr. Quinn." With a brief hum, Lainey instructed, "Are you the newbie? Meet me in my office later." With that, she resumed her brisk pace, her expression inscrutable. As the team moved forward, Millie subtly positioned herself by the wall and observed their departure. A few interns exchanged covert glances and murmured, "Isn't that Millie Caldwell?" "Do you mean the Caldwell family known for medical excellence, except for Millie Caldwell? Could it really be her?" "Exactly. I heard she's not up to par and on

"Everyone, please welcome Millie Caldwell, our newest member in the department. Let's take a moment to get to know her." Taking a moment to sip her water, Lainey then turned her attention to Millie. Millie had her hair neatly pinned up, complemented by a light pink blouse beneath her white coat, exuding a calm and professional aura. The team responded with applause, welcoming Millie warmly. However, Yoel's reaction was lukewarm at best. He shot her a brief, disapproving glance, muttering, "Does Dr. Lloyd think we need another decorative addition? One was more than sufficient." Before anyone could respond, Joanna walked in. Yoel's slight headache escalated at her arrival. One was already a handful, but adding another seemed excessive. After all, they had a fixed number of doctors, right? Millie's gaze met Joanna's, serene and composed. Joanna's expression, however, conveyed a different sentiment. "Following department tradition, shouldn't new members treat us to a meal?"

Gavin gazed at the crowd, his striking features devoid of any emotion and exuding an icy chill. He conveyed Layla's message. "Ladies and gentlemen," he began, "these are the snacks that Madam Layla has prepared for all of you. Madam Layla mentioned that Ms. Caldwell is new here, and she would like to express her gratitude for your assistance."Everyone shook their heads. "We didn't help much. She's too kind."Joanna frowned as she observed the scene, feeling uneasy and thinking it was excessive. Millie seemed to enjoy showing off, just like she did in high school. She looked like an upstart. After Gavin had finished conveying the messages, he turned to Lainey and said, "Dr. Quinn, Madam Layla mentioned that she plans to visit you on another day. Thank you for your hard work!"Lainey felt a rush of excitement when she heard that Layla, a legendary figure in the medical field, was coming to visit her. She couldn't believe it. It felt like a dream come true."Madam Layla informed u

Rowan also brought some imported food for them all to enjoy. Before departing, he announced, "We'll be delivering food every Monday from now on."As the gifts and food slowly overflowed the nurses' station and department, Millie's colleagues wondered if this was really happening. They were in disbelief.Joanna stared at the gifts on the table and angrily threw them into the trash can again.Joanna's lackey was about to toss it away when she overheard someone mention, "I've actually looked up this scarf online before. It's worth thousands of dollars.""This perfume is also a limited edition and quite difficult to buy."Wanda Cooper hesitated just before tossing the items into the trash can. Discarding the cakes and coffee was a simple decision. Yet, as a regular person, there was a tinge of reluctance to throw away the thousand-dollar scarf and limited edition perfume.Joanna stared at Wanda, perplexed by her hesitation and actions. Did she truly want to keep the gifts that Millie

"Grandpa, are you okay?" Winston finally had a moment to ask how he was doing.Arthur nodded. His demeanor toward Winston seemed a bit more gentle than before.Layla sighed. "There's too many people. Let's all slow down a bit.""Okay," Arthur said with a smile. "Don't worry, I'm fine.""You're getting older, and a fall could be life-threatening," Layla said anxiously, holding onto Arthur's arm tightly. "Hold onto me, alright?""If I hold onto you, I'll end up pulling you down as well if I fall!" Arthur grumbled.Layla said, "I don't care. Just hold onto me.""Okay, I'll hold on to you," Arthur relented.Winston was quietly following them from behind and couldn't help but smile himself. This was pretty nice.Who wouldn't envy a relationship that stayed this loving and affectionate all the way until old age?"Should we buy some candy?" The elderly couple happened to see Winston at that moment.Arthur and Layla exchanged glances. Layla spoke up first. "Mills is not here!""I understand. I'm not looking for Mills." Winston approached and stopped in front of them. "Grandma, Mills should have mentioned it to you. I was thinking of spending the Spring Festival with you and her."Layla reacted as if she had just heard a joke, saying bluntly, "When you were married, we never saw you spend the Spring Festival with her. Even though Winston wasn't eating, he was really good at paying and carrying things.Millie felt a strong sense of nostalgia for her own college days as she watched the university students eating. She wished she could go back to high school or maybe even college. She had seen many novels where the main female character went back to high school, and in each of these stories, she no longer loved the male lead when she returned back in time.If she went back to high school…"What are you thinking about? You're about to walk into the wall." Winston interrupted Millie's thoughts and pulled her closer to him.Millie really had almost bumped into a wall."Nothing." She smiled at Winston.Winston raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. The light from the food trucks shone on him and cast an indescribable sense of fate about him.He didn't belong here. With her having such good taste, shouldn't I buy two to show some support?"The vendor laughed heartily.Millie pressed her lips together and moved her mouth slightly. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.The vendor said, "It seems like I was right. If I had mentioned the word husband, then would you have bought out my whole car?"Winston nodded. Millie was the type of person who stood firm on what she wanted, regardless of who was around. No setbacks or hardships could affect her.Winston thought about this and felt even more heartache for Millie. He was the one who turned the brave and passionate girl, someone who never cared about what others thought, into the cold person she was now.He felt that loving someone was akin to taking care of a flower. He had watched as a beautiful tulip transformed into a rose covered in thorns."Winston?"He heard Millie's voice close by.Winston turned his head and saw Millie frowning. "What are you thinking about? Let's go?""Not going to watch for a bit longer?" he asked."I've seen this fountain so many times. What's so special about it?" Millie remarked with a clear voice, glancing at the fountain.Winston smiled but didn't say anything. In the past, every time she was there, she would always use excuses like "I haven't seen enough" or "Let's watch the fountain a little longer" t

"Hey there, could you help me take a picture?" Millie was looking around when someone suddenly called out to her.Millie turned around to see a tall boy holding a camera. Behind him, there was a girl waiting.Millie nodded and was about to take the camera to help with taking a picture.Winston suddenly asked, "Can I help""Huh?" The boy paused. He looked at both of them and then said with a smile, "Alright then…"However, he was clearly hesitant.Millie chuckled and said, "Let me handle it. I might be a bit more skilled than Mr. Greer is."Winston shrugged and didn't say anything else.Millie stepped forward with a camera in her hand. The two students stood next to each other. They maintained an appropriate distance, suggesting they weren't close. The girl wore a dress layered with a coat, which made her look stylish.Millie observed the two individuals. She could tell that the boy had feelings for the girl, for he was being very cautious. The girl was smiling sweetly at the

The man was wearing a loose sweatshirt with black pants. On top of that, he wore a long padded coat. His tall stature made him stand out among the other students. He looked even more like a student because of his outfit.Millie was a bit surprised when the person happened to look up in her direction. The two of them stood gazing at each other from across a wide asphalt road.Millie walked over and asked, "What are you doing here?"Winston pressed his lips together and didn't answer her question. Instead, he asked her, "Why are you here so late?""I asked you first." Millie looked up at him, determined to get an answer."Just trying to revisit some memories," he said calmly. He ran a hand through his hair before putting both hands in his pockets.Millie hummed in acknowledgment."What about you? Millie felt guilty, squeezing the orange in her hand so hard it was almost about to burst. She mumbled softly, "I mean, is it alright that Winston also came to the Spring Festival?"Layla placed the items on the table, then sat down on the couch and asked, "Why? Doesn't he have a home to go to?"Millie hesitated. That was a tricky question to answer."Got kicked out by the Greer family?" She eyed Millie with an intense gaze that was overwhelming and quite fierce.Millie didn't dare speak, but she still had to answer, "No."Layla gave a cold smile and immediately asked, "So why isn't he going back to his own home for New Year's Day and instead coming to ours? Is he crazy?""Grandma, he…" Millie wanted to explain."I don't agree," Layla stated flatly, dismissing any further explanations.Millie choked up and quietly looked over at Arthur.Arthur's expression grew more serious, as if he agreed with what Layla had said, and he turned his attention to the television."You're not e
