Millie watched as Winston grabbed Joanna's wrist while ignoring her.

The sense of weightlessness as she fell felt particularly vivid to her, and at the same time, her heart was filled with despair.

Winston had never chosen her—not once, not even when she was also in genuine danger.

"Mills!" Joanna pretended to cry out in concern.

Millie stumbled down to the turn in the staircase before coming to a stop. The pain she felt in both her body and her heart made her feel suffocated.

Slowly raising her head, she saw both Winston and Joanna looking down at her.

Words could not describe the embarrassment, anguish, and despair she felt.

She didn't fall far enough to put her life at risk, but she had certainly lost all her strength.

Winston glared at Millie with a look of abhorrence as he rebuked her, "It was only a few days ago when you pushed Joanna into the water! She still hasn't fully recovered yet, but here you are slapping her, and you even tried to push her down the stairs! You'r

As soon as Winston arrived at his office in Greer Tower, Eli came in and said, "Ms. Lowell isn't feeling well, Mr. Greer. She has been brought to the hospital. Also, the security footage you asked for has been sent to your email."Winston hummed in acknowledgment. He sat down at his desk and swiftly opened up his inbox. But for some reason, when he saw the video file, he paused.Millie's trembling voice seemed to ring in his ears. He could still hear what she said earlier."This has happened far too many times now. You always pin all the blame on me without even bothering to check the security footage first. Are you afraid that the love of your life isn't as kind as she pretends to be, or are you afraid to realize that you've misjudged me?"Winston clutched his mouse tightly, feeling a sense of guilt as he stared at the video file.Had he been wrong about Millie? He couldn't be. She was a vicious woman who was capable of all kinds of atrocities. She was just trying to put on a s

In the evening, Millie made her way to The Nouveau, a restaurant with vintage decor and an elegant, sophisticated ambiance. She was wearing a tasteful green dress with a matching purse. She was a little late, and when she opened the door to the private dining room, the guests all stood up at once. The light illuminated her soft skin, and the slit in her dress revealed her long, slender legs. She had her hair up in a bun with a hairpin sticking through it. Her fringe hid the wound on her forehead.Everyone was mesmerized by the sight of her."Oh, my. If it isn't Ms. Caldwell," a man in his fifties said. He was Eric Lopez, Terrence's good friend. He was the one who organized this private dinner gathering with his other friends who were all influential figures in the business world."She's not just Ms. Caldwell. She's Terrence's precious daughter and the apple of his eye! Don't you underestimate her!" another man corrected Eric.Millie let out a helpless chuckle as she looked aroun

The man cackled as he tried to pull Millie into his arms. "100 million is nothing to me! All I have to do is ask for it!"Millie narrowed her eyes. What an arrogant thing for him to say."Who are you? Why haven't I seen you before?" Millie asked with a smirk. The man lifted his head up high and declared arrogantly, "I'm Scotty Cobb, the CEO of Cobb Group!"Millie laughed.Scotty Cobb? Wasn't he the infamous wastrel from the Cobb family? He was just a foolish, good-for-nothing scion! He was most known for having been scammed out of eight million by a man who pretended to be a woman online! All in all, Scotty was a brainless man with too much money for his own good!"What are you laughing at?" Scotty snapped as he glared at Millie. "If you hook up with me, you'll be getting more than just 100 million. I'll give you 100 billion!"Millie tutted. It was a tempting offer."I'm not interested in you, Mr. Cobb. Kindly let go, and let's pretend this never happened," Millie said with a

Millie was taken aback. She didn't expect Winston to check the security footage. Nevertheless, that no longer mattered to her.She applied a plaster on Winston's hand before closing the first aid kit, saying, "All done."Winston frowned. He was displeased by how indifferent she seemed."Millie, I said I saw the security footage," he repeated. She looked at him and replied with a smile, "I heard you."Winston's frown deepened. Was that all? Wasn't she going to ask for an apology or something?Noting Winston's confusion, Millie got up to return the first aid kit to the drawer while saying coolly, "In the past, I loved you, so I cared about your opinion of me. But now…"Turning back around, she declared, "It doesn't matter to me anymore."Winston licked his lips. His eyes flashed darkly as he asked with an unreadable expression, "You don't love me anymore?""You're so smart, Mr. Greer," Millie said with a captivating smile as she leaned against the cabinet.Loving him had alread

Winston emerged from the restaurant. Eli spoke to him from the other end of the call, "Mr. Greer, there's something—""Get to the point." "Ms. Lowell asked for your schedule just now, and I mentioned you were at The Nouveau. She might…" While Eli was speaking, Winston spotted Joanna waiting for him by the entrance. He hung up on Eli. Watching Joanna's petite figure, he found it intriguing and unbelievable that a fragile woman like her had fought back against the abductors. He was reminded of Jake's advice to him—that he could only choose between Joanna and Millie. He realized that he had to pick Joanna over Millie. Joanna was a fine young lady, and he didn't have the heart to put her under more pressure or compel her to make additional sacrifices. He approached Joanna. "Jo."The woman turned around and flashed a quiet, subservient smile at him. "Win."He looked down at her with gentle eyes. "Why are you here instead of resting at the hospital?""Win, I'm sorry for what happen

Millie showed up at the courthouse with the necessary documents and waited for Winston. Her thoughts wandered back to the day they registered their marriage three years ago. There was a heavy downpour in Yerwick. Winston said he'd be late because he was busy with work. Later, he suggested rescheduling due to the heavy rain. That day, she stood at the courthouse entrance alone, watching the rain subside and resume. It wasn't until the end of business hours that Winston showed up.During the wait, she watched the sweet, smiling young couples entering and leaving. She couldn't help but sigh. If he truly loved her, he would have shown up even if it were raining, not to mention it was the day of their marriage registration. He certainly did not love her and didn't care about marrying her.Back to the present, Millie paced the area out of boredom. The clock struck 9:00 am. She looked up, but Winston was absent. So, she texted him, "Mr. Greer, I can't believe you can be tardy."He did n

Millie collected herself. While holding Selma, she gently replied, "Grandma, those are just baseless rumors. Don't put too much weight on these rumors."There was no way she'd admit to getting a divorce in front of Selma. If Selma interfered with the proceedings, Winston would never get to marry his true love. Millie wasn't about to live under his resentment forever."How could I be getting a divorce when I'm dressed in this lovely dress today?" Millie swirled in the dress that accentuated her slender figure. Winston breathed a sigh of relief, though doubt lingered in his mind.Selma, busy with her birthday party preparations, had suddenly dropped by the villa on the day of his supposed divorce. Did Millie leak the news to Selma because she refused to divorce? He furrowed his brows, the thought weighing his mind."I don't believe it. Where there's smoke, there's fire. The two of you must have brought up getting a divorce!" Selma refused to believe that the rumors were unfounded.

Winston's brows twisted into a frown. He gazed calmly at Millie as if he agreed that she was a shameless and manipulative woman.Anger and bitterness brewed deep within Millie. She no longer cared what Winston thought of her. Still, she felt like a fool because the latter kept questioning her. With a bitter smile, she snarled, "Why don't we just tell your grandma about our divorce if you think I'm that despicable?" "You wouldn't dare!" Winston stomped forward. He could tell from Selma's actions that she cared a lot about Winston and Millie's marriage. It would only cause Selma more trouble if they told her they wanted to get divorced now. Winston refused to make any mistakes before Selma's birthday celebration.Millie chuckled. "Why wouldn't I dare? Winston, get one thing clear. Selma is your biological grandmother, not mine!"She had only refrained from telling Selma about it because Selma treated her well. Millie didn't want Selma to fall ill if she told the latter about the divor

Layla said, "Even though it's soon New Year's and everyone is busy, try to be a bit more gentle! We're all elderly people here, so what's wrong with being patient?"Since you're in the service industry, you should maintain a proper attitude. If you can't even speak politely, then you shouldn't be in this line of work. I suggest you close up shop for good!"Winston squinted. That voice sounded very familiar. It seemed like Layla's voice. He quickly walked over and saw that Arthur was helping an elderly gentleman up while Layla was engaged in a debate with a young female shopkeeper."How I run my store is my business. If you want to buy something, go ahead. If not, just leave. I don't need you to tell me how to run my life!" The store owner glared at Layla while speaking with a very unfriendly tone, their voice sharp and cutting.Layla was exasperated and asked, "Don't you understand the saying that the customer is king?""What about the damn king? Layla said, "Look, you're really persistent, aren't you? I don't like you. Do you need me to spell it out for you?""Grandma, I want to pursue Mills. Since I want to be with Mills, I need to have everyone's approval. Right now, I'm trying hard to make everyone like me. It's part of the process that you might dislike me at first, but I can't just give up because of that. How else would I pursue Mills?" Winston said clearly. As expected of a businessman, his negotiation style was very serious and precise. Despite his gentle tone, there was still a strong sense of pressure in his eyes and demeanor.Layla moved her lips slightly. She didn't know how to get Winston to leave, so she shouted, "I don't care! Just stop bothering us here!"Winston furrowed his brows.Layla then asked Arthur to pull the cart himself.Ding! Winston's phone rang out.Arthur took the cart and quickly left with Layla.Winston stood still, watching the couple walk away, and couldn't help but sigh. The call on

"Grandpa, are you okay?" Winston finally had a moment to ask how he was doing.Arthur nodded. His demeanor toward Winston seemed a bit more gentle than before.Layla sighed. "There's too many people. Let's all slow down a bit.""Okay," Arthur said with a smile. "Don't worry, I'm fine.""You're getting older, and a fall could be life-threatening," Layla said anxiously, holding onto Arthur's arm tightly. "Hold onto me, alright?""If I hold onto you, I'll end up pulling you down as well if I fall!" Arthur grumbled.Layla said, "I don't care. Just hold onto me.""Okay, I'll hold on to you," Arthur relented.Winston was quietly following them from behind and couldn't help but smile himself. This was pretty nice.Who wouldn't envy a relationship that stayed this loving and affectionate all the way until old age?"Should we buy some candy?" Layla said, pointing at the candy in front of them.Arthur said, "Okay."Whatever she wanted, he would agree. The two of them acted both harmo

It was definitely me aiming too high. So if I get another chance, I will definitely treat Millie well.""Hmph! Men are all talk!" Even though Winston wasn't eating, he was really good at paying and carrying things.Millie felt a strong sense of nostalgia for her own college days as she watched the university students eating. She wished she could go back to high school or maybe even college. She had seen many novels where the main female character went back to high school, and in each of these stories, she no longer loved the male lead when she returned back in time.If she went back to high school…"What are you thinking about? You're about to walk into the wall." Winston interrupted Millie's thoughts and pulled her closer to him.Millie really had almost bumped into a wall."Nothing." She smiled at Winston.Winston raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. The light from the food trucks shone on him and cast an indescribable sense of fate about him.He didn't belong here. Millie felt an increasingly strong urge to take him out of the scene immediately.Millie felt that if she went back to high school

With her having such good taste, shouldn't I buy two to show some support?"The vendor laughed heartily.Millie pressed her lips together and moved her mouth slightly. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.The vendor said, "It seems like I was right. If I had mentioned the word husband, then would you have bought out my whole car?"Winston nodded. "I'm considering it. However, I don't think she'd approve."The vendor laughed heartily and said, "You all look unfamiliar, so you probably aren't from the school

Millie was the type of person who stood firm on what she wanted, regardless of who was around. No setbacks or hardships could affect her.Winston thought about this and felt even more heartache for Millie. He was the one who turned the brave and passionate girl, someone who never cared about what others thought, into the cold person she was now.He felt that loving someone was akin to taking care of a flower. He had watched as a beautiful tulip transformed into a rose covered in thorns."Winston?"He heard Millie's voice close by.Winston turned his head and saw Millie frowning. "What are you thinking about? Let's go?""Not going to watch for a bit longer?" he asked."I've seen this fountain so many times. What's so special about it?" Millie remarked with a clear voice, glancing at the fountain.Winston smiled but didn't say anything. In the past, every time she was there, she would always use excuses like "I haven't seen enough" or "Let's watch the fountain a little longer" t

She could tell that the boy had feelings for the girl, for he was being very cautious. The girl was smiling sweetly at the
