41: Stop fighting fate (I)

I didn’t believe Beth’s bullshit about wanting to spend time with me. While the sentiment was nice, even made me feel fuzzy, I didn’t buy it. But I couldn’t say no to some time alone with my mate after all the shitfest that had happened since the year began. 

My hand dropped to Beth’s back, guiding her to the passenger side of the car so I could open the door for her. She looked up at me and smiled. What? It was just a door.

When she got inside, I volunteered to lock her seatbelt into place, and she held my face in her hands. Her gaze ping-ponged between my eyes and lips. She wanted a kiss, but I wouldn’t indulge her. I was hers for the taking only if she made the move.

“Thanks,” she said.

A curt nod was all Beth received from me. I entered and started the car when she gave directions to the cinema. She brought out two tickets and splayed them on her legs. 

“How’s work?” she asked. 

“Fine.”
