Scarlett’s POV

Damian Vanderbilt cocks an eyebrow in obvious despise, nodding at me flirtatiously: “I admired your little speech, but you letting him put his hand on you so easily says more than your words.”

What a jerk! What’s his problem?!!!

I wanted to push Sebastian away, but I couldn’t quite pin down who I hated more at this moment: an arrogant tricked pitiful prey of Ava’s who just fell into her trap, or an arrogant tricked pitiful prey who claims to be out of Ava’s trap.

“It’s none of your business!” I frown at Damian Vanderbilt as I throw away Sebastian’s hand. It’s not wise to piss off two bigshots at the same time, but since I’m already the enemy of the world, it doesn’t really make that much of a difference, “If one day you find yourself in a trap of a slut, it’s because you are a womanizer first!”

Damian Vanderbilt’s look turns cold visibly, his tone dangerous: “Who are you calling a slut?”

“Whoever turns out to be!” I snap at him.

“Little girl--” Damian Vanderbilt narrows

The people here are clueless about in taking decisions about others. The author makes the casts look and sound stupid amidst their intelligence.

Okay I thought they’re pretending comment vague. Yeah I feel the same way about more observant and cannot stand how quickly he jumps to conclusions. Can’t wait for Lilith to set him straight

Scarlett’s POVDamian Vanderbilt left with Oliver Scott. All I know is the name Grey, not even their car plates. So if I want to do anything, following them is my only chance.“Change of plan!” I drag Lucas out of there, “How’s your driving skill comparing to Adrian's?”“Basically the same,” Lucas frowns in confusion, “Enough to meet your needs. I know about your car sick situation--”“Can you do a car chase?” I cut him off, pointing at the car leaving the Fuller’s gate, “Follow that car!”We almost lost them in the middle. Well, actually we did. I don’t know who was driving in that car, but their driving style changed midway as they apparently noticed us following, and we lost them after they entered a tunnel. I don’t know where they came from, and I don’t know where they are going. I don’t even know whether it’s really my Lilith. But he is a lawyer and Lilith just got into a law firm. I can’t help but make that connection.“That’s not the same as Adrian at all!” I complain when thei

Scarlett’s POVWhat does this question tell at all?“Well, yeah. She is a party girl,” I shrug, hesitating because I don’t see this answer helping, “Damon knows about that. She doesn’t need to hide from him if she is just--”There are several bars on this street AND in the nearby streets. It’s not helping us narrow down the range.“Yep, that makes sense,” Lucas nods, stopping the car when we are still far from the library, “The bars would be my bet if we didn’t follow our new friends here. BUT, Damian Vanderbilt sees her as his pet, meaning they are close, so he wouldn’t be finding it an interesting place for her to be if she’s in any of them. Luckily, you are here with me instead of Adrian--”He gets out of the car and I hurriedly follow him. No one is allowed to stop in the middle of a story and just up and leave! This is definitely his revenge on my complaints about his driving skills...He locks the car with the key as he walks up to a wooden door that looks so ordinary that I bare

Scarlett’s POVLilith needs money. She never shows that part of her life to us. She is the kind of person who would take a student loan and three part-time jobs and never mention it to us. But she paid up that loan already and she just got a decent job. What could make her come for money like this?“What’s the plan?” Lucas asks, his eyes on the fight, “I understand your worry, but your friend has the upper hand.”“She just took a punch!” I hiss at him.“Well, it’s still a fight,” Lucas rolls his eyes, his tone admiring: “She’s tough though. She would rather take a harder blow with her body rather than one on her face. To hide her secret, I assume?”I lower my eyes, can’t look at the fight anymore.I don’t know what to do. I have always respected her decision on this matter, but if she is taking such a risk for money, is it still okay to not intervene? But even if I wanted to help, I don’t know if I could, or if she would even take it. Telling her that I know about this might end up on

Damian’s POVI try to keep the search for my sister a secret.Vanderbilt’s name attracts too many impostors as it is. Just because of the news about how they found my mom’s car under a cliff but without a trace of the baby, we have been dealing with all sorts of people coming to us over the years, claiming that they raised my sister who they found near the crash site. Some of them even came for the reward with a dead baby’s picture. Basically, they were selling their kids, dead ones, too. It’s fair to say that I have seen the darkest part of humanity. Most of them are easy to spot though -- we have never revealed the fact that Mom’s blood type is RH-, as well as the baby. Even unable to make a DNA test, a simple medical examination report from any period of their life could pick out most of the fake ones. But they still do damage--Every time such a claim reaches Dad, it takes his heart for a rollercoaster ride with an almost definite disappointing end.Dad loves Mom too much to even

Scarlett’s POVIn the end, I didn’t talk to Lilith that night. She doesn’t want us to know. It might hurt her pride more than helping her with her financial problem. I need to talk to Aurora first about it. Besides, Lilith never mentioned Damian Vanderbilt to us, so I’m not sure how to talk to her about that either. I don’t think Lilith would be with him if she knew he had other women, but I don’t have evidence either. But all these are just excuses.I fled the scene because I might be a Vanderbilt, an unwanted one no less.Lucas got a hotel for us, and I hid in my room for three days straight. My activities mainly involve searching about the Vanderbilts online and hiding under the cover every five minutes.I believe the cover has the power to block off all ghosts, so it should be able to protect me from other horrible things, too. There isn’t much about them online.Or, the ton of information about them online says little that I need. I need him to know.“Lucas told me everything,” Adrian finally says, eying me in the rare mirror, “How have you been holding up? I’m actually impressed that you pulled yourself together after only three days.”I frown leeringly: “Please don’t tell me that the boss of the Dunn empire has been squatting downstairs of my hotel for the past three days...”Adrian lets out a laugh, the worry in his eyes faints a little.“I have eyes on your personal driver, that’s all,” Adrian gives me a harmless smile, “By the way, I’m not the only one doing that, apparently.”“Who else?!” I frown. Scarlett's POVDare not to get into the past of my parents, I pushed everything to the back of my head when I got out of Adrian’s car and joined the shooting scene. It’s not wise to hang your mind on a decade-old divorce case when you are shooting a young adult romance. The main body of my story is the memory of the main characters, so we are shooting at a school for the first two months. Adrian’s alma mater was kind enough to allow the shooting of the campus, along with some classrooms and everything.I chose it because Sebastian -- the origin of my male lead in the story -- also went here, along with Ava and me. This is where our story happened. Adrian taunted me about this choice, thinking I was making my dream of a happy ending with Sebastian come true in my movie. A girl saved by a boy, ended up getting into a sweet relationship with him before entering a happy marriage. He was wrong.I’m not the origin of the female lead in the movie. Ava is.Sebastian might have saved me, but he

Does she really treat Sebastian differently?Scar doesn’t like touching this question. It stings. He is like a wound on her heart that just won’t heal. Every scar he left on her remains hurting, bleeding, and corrupting nonstop, yet she just can’t seem to gouge it out.If only she could. Why is it so hard to just cut all ties with this man? However she warns herself of the danger this man poses, she keeps finding him back in her life, closer and closer.Unlike Ava who has never even apologized for what happened but basically took all the harm she did on Scar as okay, Sebastian apologizes. He puts up the genuine guilt act all the time. Doing the right thing, that’s his brand. He takes all his chances to apologize, but he still doesn’t understand--His fault is not giving Ava a key to his house. It wasn’t even falling for that simple lie when the

  • She Accepted Divorce, He Panicked   298 Sebastian's Affair

Scar couldn’t answer Silco’s question. What kind of a question was that?! She doesn’t treat them differently! They are all her enemies, and they all played a part in that horrifying night five years ago! When Ava bullied her, Sebastian took Ava’s side; when Ava needed her blood, Sebastian was the one plugging the tube into Scar’s wrist; when Ava tried to murder her child, HIS child, he gave Ava the key to their house! So of course she treats them differently! If Ava was a murderer, then Sebastian was just a stupid tool Ava used; if Ava wanted her dead, Sebastian only failed to protect her.So why that question?!Why SHOULD she treat them as equally evil? She doesn’t only because she is a fair person!Having a bloody battle in her mind, Scar couldn’t help but feel angry when she couldn’t pin down where the anger comes from.It was a simple question, one that she does have an answer for.So why couldn’t she?Why did she feel guilty when Silco asked that, and why did she run from that qu

Silco finally nods with a proud smile, seeing Scar had led her to where he was leading her to go: “I think that would raise our chances by a lot, princess.”Scar’s eyes beam, not at the coming win, but at the proud look from Silco. She doesn’t even realize it.Never in the first twenty years of life has she tasted what being proud of feels like, and that’s not because of a lack of trying. For a very long time, she believed so long as she worked hard, she would get the praise from Jack and Anna just like Ava. She never did.It feels amazing. While Scar is enjoying her newfound secret, forbidden satisfaction, Lilith is amazed at the closeness shared between Scar and Silco that her best friend doesn’t seem to even notice herself. Does Scar still remember that she doesn’t even know the identity of this man? Scar looks up at him like a little lamb at her shepherd. What’s with this sudden, almost-father-daughter vibe?!“So we just wait?” Scar asks Silco, “What if they don’t make a move?”“Y

“Silco!” Still in the euphoric state, Scar springs off the sofa, demanding the man like a little girl, “You knew him?! Elijah Green? Did you know what a weirdo he was?! Who tells people that they look like their dead friend on the first time they meet?! Why on earth did you make me go to that horrible party?! You owe me an explanation!”Silco lets out a smirk, “Dead...friend? Interesting...” He laughs at her pout, rubbing her hair as he leads her back to the sofa: “The party was horrible? Then why did I hear that the Fuller’s mother-daughter pair put on quite a show to entertain?”Well, it WAS quite enjoyable when they panicked as their lies spilled all over the floor before Scar picked it up for them.Scar sticks her tongue out.“Sure, she begged me for mercy,” Scar shrugs, throwing herself back into the sofa with a loud sigh, “but they only wanted to keep up their lies in front of the Green Lady. I have been calling her about our deal and she hasn’t picked up yet. Pretty sure I got

“I have heard a lot about you,” Elijah Green grins at Scar, giving a meaningful glance in the Green Lady’s direction. The Fullers are pasting around the Green Lady again, like two buzzing flies that would always come back. Looking over, Scar couldn’t help but let out a snort, “So have I.” She says with a cold voice, “Is that what this conversation is for?”If he is here to fight for Ava, too. Scar frowns. She swears to God! She would—“I think they are lying to mom,” Elijah Green answers tamely, as if he doesn’t even hear the sarcasm in Scar’s tone. In Scar’s surprised look, the man laughs like a marshmallow, with a childish, mischievous shade in there, “Anyone who looks so much alike my dear -- hmm -- friend, couldn’t be a bully.”Every time he says that, he adds a pause in there as if it originally wasn’t a “friend”, but something else there. Weird. Scar thinks.“...but I bet you are fierce, no? I bet you are kind to people, but take the stand if needed,” Elijah Green is still going

Sebastian is afraid.Never in his life has he been so. How could he not? He is in the face of his final judgement. He only got through the past five years lying to himself that Scar hated him because Alice died, when he managed to save Alice. That’s his one shred of hope. That some day, when he could tell Scar that, all will be forgiven and forgotten. But that’s precisely why he dared not touch it. Because deep down, he knows that the answer is likely to be no.He just doesn’t know how to survive that answer. If his actions would never get forgiveness from the one person he can’t live without. Then what?It takes him all his willpower to force his eyes up to meet Scar’s. His throat so dry that it starts hurting. He grips a fist, hides it in his pocket with his whole body stiff like a rock. There is storm in Scar’s eyes. There is anger, of course. Anger for all that has happened. In so many years to come, Sebastian would be grateful that Scar caved, again. He could see the struggle in her eyes, and the familiar fire that would have driven her to call off the deal. But for several long seconds, she doesn’t say anything. He takes that as an “in” and drags her away.He is not sure what he would have done if Scar chose Scott. It’s not like he could really keep her away from the lead of her mom’s case. He has investigated for so many years, just so he could give her what she wants when she wants it.Just not Scott.Or any other men.“I didn’t know you were interested in eye candy,” Sebastian squeezes Scar's hand punishingly when he notices that long after they arrived at the small table across the room from Scott, she is still gazing in that direction.Scar frowns at his sting. But instead of tormenting himself, he chooses to torment everyone who owed him and maintains his life.“I wish I could be so free, just like you...” Scar murmurs, “How did you turn up well, losing your mom when you were a baby...?”When she became such a mess that she couldn’t hold on to anything good in her life?“I couldn’t do it, not without Mr. Vanderbilt.” Scott shakes his head.Mr. Vanderbilt...Scar lowers her eyelashes, hiding her secret within.Scott lands his gloomy look on Elijah Green, who is socializing with the guests not far from them, “If he didn’t take care of me all these years, the Greens would never have taken a low level orphan boy back, no matter the blood running through my veins.”Scar doesn’t recogni
