"What's going on Harper," he asked

I stared at him, hatred, and rage-filled my inside, how could he sit here and pretend like everything was okay

"How could you Edward" I asked him, the pain in my voice.

"What are you talking about, babe" he tried to hold my hand, but I pulled away

"Don't you call me that" I simply told him

"If you are going to act this way, I think it better I leave, I have an appointment by 4," he said standing up to leave

"Appointment or Alice" I spoke out this time, I could see the confusion and shock on his face

"What-what are you talking about" he stuttered

I stared at my engagement ring, rolling and playing with it "I was faithful, I loved you, I supported you, all for what? I stare at him

"Harper" he called out my name slowly, still trying to decipher if I knew about him and Alice

But my stare said it all, he sat down, his hand now placed on his mouth. "Babe, please, let me explain"

"That's the problem, Edward, what exactly are you trying to explain" I asked my voice filled with anger and hurt.

Edward sighed, his eyes filled with guilt. "I made a mistake, Harper. I got caught up in a moment of weakness with Alice. It was never my intention to hurt you"

I scoffed, tears welling up in my eyes. "A moment of weakness? So that's how you justify it? How could you do this to me?"

Edward reached out for my hand again but I pulled away once more. " No, Edward. I can't just brush this off as a mistake, you slept with my sister, and you betrayed my trust, and our commitment to each other."

He looked down, unable to meet my gaze. "I know, and I'm sorry, Harper. I never wanted to hurt. I love you"

Tears streamed down my face as I shook my head. "Love isn't supposed to hurt like this, Edward. How can I believe anything you say"

He pleaded with me, his voice full of remorse. "I'm willing to do anything to try and fix this. I'll go to therapy, I'll do whatever it takes to regain your trust. Please, give me one more chance"

I looked at him, uncertainty clouding my thoughts. I loved him, that much was true, but could I ever trust him again? Could I move past this betrayal and rebuild what we once had?

Taking a deep breath, I finally spoke, my voice filled with pain and determination. "I need time, Edward. Time to process everything and figure out if I can ever forgive you, but right now, I want you to bed things with Alice"

"Harper," he said

"So much for trying to make things work, it's either that or I am calling off the wedding and returning your ring" I threatened

"Fine, fine, you win, I will call it off" he managed to say

I stood up and stared at him for some minutes, my heart broke just by looking at him, "You don't deserve good things Edward" I said, walking away.

I drove home exhausted from the stress of work and Well my problem. Ava has been kind enough to keep me company, tho she had work to do.

She was like a sister, better than the one I had. I struggled with my keys, unlocking my door, and I stepped in. Without doing much I dropped on my living room couch.

My eyes staring at the ceiling, my phone rang, who could this be at this time, I picked it up and stared at it, it was an unknown number, I hesitated before I pick

"Hello, who's this?" I asked

"Hello Harper," he said

His voice sounded familiar, I tried to recall where, and then it struck me. "Gideon"

"Whoa, you still remember my name, am honored," he teased

"I never forget it at first" I shyly said

"Sorry, I could have called sooner, but I have been busy," he said at the other end, his voice calm.

"Ohh, it's no big deal, we all have been busy" I assured him I wasn't angry.

We became silent for a minute before he spoke again.

"How about we meet up, for a friendly drink"

"A drink? right now?" I asked

"Yeah, why not? It's been so long since we last saw each other," Gideon replied

I hesitated for a moment, thinking about how exhausted I was and the incident that happened the last time we saw each other. But then again, meeting up with Gideon might be a good distraction, a chance to catch up and take things off my mind.

"Sure why not?" I finally agreed. "Where do you suggest we meet up"

Gideon thought for a moment before suggesting a nearby Bar, not far from where I lived. It was a cozy spot with dim lighting and a relaxed atmosphere.

"It a surprise you know that there's a bar not too far from where I stay" I managed to say

"G****e map and some help from a good friend made it easy to find something comfortable and close by for you" he added

"Isn't that sweet of you" I smiled

"Meet you there in 30 minutes," he asked

"Sure, let me freshen up, just got in from work," I told him

"Sure, take your time" he insisted, ending the call.

I stood up and hurried into the shower, took a quick bath, raided my wardrobe, and put on a turtleneck dress that hit around mid-shin. Pair it with some sheer black tights and a pair of heeled booties, the night was cold so I wore a long trench coat. My hair is tied in a bun, I look perfect.

I picked up my purse and stepped out, I felt excited, I hadn't felt this way since Edward proposed that night, in Minnesota, it was supposed to be a getaway vacation for us but it was more than I expected.

I wasn't in the mood to drive, so I stopped a taxi and got in.

"Branch Bar," I told him

The drive was calm, the cold wind of the night feeling my face as I stared out the window.

"Aren't you cold Miss," The Taxi guy asked

"Nope, I haven't felt this warm in a long time," I told him a smile beaming on my face as he stared at me confused

Gideon was the reason for this, who is Gideon and why do I suddenly feel light whenever I hear his voice? The taxi stopped at the front entrance, I got out, paying him his money as he drove off.

I stood there staring at the glowing and vibrant sign before stepping in, the place was a little crowded, and my eyes searched the crowd, where could he be

"You look beautiful," A voice said from behind me

I turned, and there stood Gideon, he looked different From the last time, he was too clean this time, his dark hair fell slightly to his face, his chiseled jawline beautifully sculpted, his grey eyes so sharp he could Pierce into your soul.

He was beautiful, the most beautiful man I have ever laid my eyes on.

"Are you okay" he touched my arm gently, and his eyes held mine as I tried to speak but words failed me

I nodded. Assuring him, he looked around, calling a young waiter over,

"I don't know if you could get me a good space," he asked him, giving him some cash

The young waiter smiled and asked him to follow him as he led the way, Gideon grabbed me by the hand, and we were led to an empty seat, close to a window.

"Is this okay?" he asked

"It's perfect" Gideon responded

I watched as the waiter smiled and walked away, he must have been so happy, making that huge sum of tips

"You are very good with that kind of stuff" I teased him

He smiled, pulling out a chair for me to sit on, and helping me take off my coat as I sat down.

"I grew up mostly around bars, I had to learn," he said taking a seat across from me

"Is this like those, from Grass to Grace storylines" I smiled, teasing him

He smiled, exposing his dimples, "Maybe, maybe not" he answered

He called for the waiter again, "what do you feel like drinking or eating" he asked

"Mash potatoes and steak with beans," I told the Walter

"Get us a bottle of wine along," Gideon told him

"Sure," he said walking away

"Aren't you eating?" I asked Curious

"Am fine" he replied, "so how's the revenge coming along?" he asked genuinely concerned

I shrugged

"He asked for a second chance, so…., I gave him an option, he has to break up with Alice" I managed to say

He stared at me, his expression cold, I felt uncomfortable like I had done something wrong

"Do you still love him" his tone thickened

Confused I stared at him, trying to find the right answer to his question.

"I don't know" I whispered

Gideon eye's narrowed slightly as if he was searching for some hidden truth within my answer. I could feel my heart racing, Unsure how he react he would react to my honesty. I could feel my heart racing, unsure of how he would react to my honesty. After a moment of silence, he sighed and looked away."Well," he began, his voice tinged with disappointment, "it's not an easy question to answer, I understand that."I could sense his underlying frustration, but I wasn't sure if it was directed towards me or the situation as a whole. Gideon had been there for me when I felt lost and confused, despite meeting a stranger for the first time, he was ready to listen and help out. But now, as we sat in this crowded restaurant, the weigh

I rolled on the soft mattress, my hand feeling the other side of the bed. My eyes shot wide and opened. I stared at the space.I quickly sat upright, picking up the tee next to me and putting it on. I walked downstairs and there he was, looking perfect."What are you doing" I asked, walking to the kitchen counter as my eyes fell on him. Sitting at the kitchen table I held a cup of coffee that Gideon had brewed already.I watched Gideon fumble with the pancake batter in the mixing bowl. I took a deep breath and gathered the courage to speak. "Gideon I need to talk to you about something."Gideon turned to stare at me his eyes full of hope. "Sure what's up?"I hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I had a great time with you last night, but I don't want anything more than friendship. I'm still trying to figure out what I want in life, and I'm not ready for a serious relationship right now."Gideon's face fell, but he nodded understandingly. "Okay, I understand. I just wanted to mak

Gideon pov)I anxiously waited for Mr. Henry to get back to me. Forex Bank, renowned as the best and top firm bank in San Francisco, had been on my radar for quite some time.Their recent investment in Globe Rice and Technology sparked my interest, as it gave us a chance to rank 5th in the world of technology."Mr. Rice, I apologize for keeping you waiting," Mr. Henry said as he took a seat in front of me."No worries. I imagine you have a lot on your plate," I replied politely, smiling.Mr. Henry returned the smile. "Don't we all? I received the documents your PA sent me yesterday, and I must say, I was intrigued by your vision and plan," he said, chiming in."I'm honored," I responded, a smile forming on my lips. "So, are we on the same page regarding the contract, Mr. Henry? Time waits for no one," I tried to nudge him."Well, Mr. Rice, I will send my answer to you without fail tomorrow," Mr. Henry assured me."Trust me, you won't regret it," I guaranteed him. (Gideon pov)I stared at the information in my hands. "Thanks, James," I told him, shutting the door. I was curious, I planned to help her, and this was my way of doing so.I knew she created the just friends boundaries but I will prove to her that she could trust me.I walked towards my living room, taking a seat on the couch as I glanced at each document.Edward Pierce, 28 years old, got promoted to manager last month. He is the only son of his family. Has a sister. "Jessica," I say out her name.Picking up her picture, I stared at him, I could use her to get to Edward, ruin him completely.I picked up my call and called Joshua. "Hello Joshua, please cancel my letting for today" I added"Is there a problem Sir" Joshua added at the other end."No Joshua, just busy, I have a big fish to catch," I said heading to my bedroom to get ready."A big fish??" (Edward pov)I pulled Alice aside. She was beginning to get on my nerves."Why are you so hell-bent on ruining my life with your sister? We had sex no big deal.""We had sex no big deal, is that how you are putting it" she questioned. "What if everything I did for you, was no big deal"I furrowed my brows, this was getting too much. I paced back and forth trying to understand the situation.I don't need Alice, I have no use for her, she was practically living under her sister's care, which currently she has lost. I don't need a liability right now.Harper is a perfect choice, she has a stable and good income-earning job, and she is resourceful in many ways. With her support, I know I will have the dream life I have always wanted."Baby I know you are confused, but trust me, we don't need Harper" Alice held my hand her eyes pleading."That's where you are wrong Alice, I need Harper, you need your sister more than anything, you are still in college, and you haven't worked in your life b

(Harper's pov)I folded the boxes as I glanced around, hoping I got everything I needed. Edward stood in the kitchen, his eyes darting back to his phone and then back to me.His expression was sour, "did you tell our friends about our wedding being called off because I cheated on you" he asked, his coffee mug in his hand."Why are you asking me, it not like I'm that close to any of your stupid friends, they are just like you in all ways, stupid!" I responded backHis eyes stared coldly at me saying nothing, I continued uploading my things into the empty box I had next to me."You don't have to be mean about it, they supported our dating" he finally saidFeeling annoyed, I turned to face him. "They supported our relationship, the same friends that took you to a strip house and invited Kelly your ex-girlfriend to my birthday or is it the same friends that took you roller skating on our anniversary" I could go on, cause the list was much but seeing his expression i could tell he got my p

(Harper's pov)We lay on the bed, my head placed on Gideon's bared chest, "I thought you were still angry at me" I told him"Why would I be" he answered, placing a kiss on my head, "I just thought you needed time to sort things out"I smiled, If only Edward was half-decent like Gideon, I would have understood his stupid reasons for making stupid choices."So what have you been up to," I askedGideon stopped stroking my hair as he spoke. "Busy with work, got a new project coming up at my work firm""What did you say you do again" I sat upright, now staring at him.He smiled, "I never told you what I do Harper, we never actually made it to that conversation" he replied backI blushed feeling ashamed, I couldn't believe not asking someone I had slept with two times, gone out with, and even kissed what he does for a living.I was so attracted to him, that I forgot he was still a stranger."Am not usually like this" I tried to defend my action. (Harper's pov)I stared at Ava who just stormed in, my eyes moving from my laptop to her. Ava and being dramatic were like 5&6."You never told me Alice was going to be an intern here," she asked furiouslyI stared at Ava confused, what was she talking about, Alice wasn't ready for an internship till next year."Alice? Internship?" I stood up from my seat and walked out, Ava followed behind. My gaze fixated on Alice, she was truly here, but how, Alice now turned to face me and smiled."Sis" she called out wavingI could hear murmuring in the room as all eyes stared at me, some condemning me for using my connection to get her a spot here.Grabbing Alice by the hand, I pulled her to my office shutting the door behind us."What do you think you are doing" I asked"What else, am here for an internship" Alice replied, walking around my office. CANDLELIT DINNER 2~HARPER'S POV~Three days. That’s how long I’d spent with Gideon after taking a very necessary sick leave from work. And honestly? It had been magical. I never wanted any of it to end. Mornings with breakfast in bed. Afternoons with lunch in expensive restaurants.Nights filled with reckless, mind-numbing sex—wherever we found ourselves until we were too exhausted to move.Who the hell was this man? And more importantly…What was he doing to me?Tonight, Gideon had promised yet another surprise. As if everything else hadn’t been enough. When he first mentioned wine tasting, I’d blinked at him in confusion."What's that?" I had asked, immediately regretting how clueless I sounded. He had only smirked, shaking his head slightly. "You're cute when you're clueless."Not exactly an answer. But then again, Gideon never answered things directly. And now, as we pulled up to the event, my breath hitched at the sight before me.A massive vineyard stretched across the land, bat

A PAWN & A KING ~ALICE’S POV~I was still standing there, staring at the door Noah had just walked through, trying to piece my sanity back together. But that was the thing about sanity. Once it cracks, it doesn’t take much to shatter. A low groan cut through the silence. I turned slowly, my stomach flipping as I saw Edward stir on the floor. Another groan, and he rolled onto his side, wincing as he dragged himself up onto his elbows. Blood was trickling from his lip where Noah had hit him, and his eye was already starting to swell. For a split second, I thought maybe he’d pass back out. No such luck.“Mother… fucker,” Edward muttered, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Then his bloodshot eyes snapped to me.And just like that, chaos was back.“You,” he snarled, pushing himself upright with shaky determination. “You bitch.” He stumbled to his feet, swaying for a second, but that didn’t stop him. Didn’t slow him down, either. His gaze was locked on me like I was hi

SECRETS OUT ~ALICE’S POV~I sat on the cold kitchen floor, one hand still pressed to my throat. Every shallow breath I took scraped against the soreness Edward’s fingers left behind. But that wasn’t what had me shaking. Not really. Noah’s eyes were on me now. And they were clear. Focused. The kind of dangerous I hadn’t seen in him before. He wasn’t drunk anymore. At least not enough to make a difference.“Drink this.” Noah’s voice was low, but there was something in it that made me obey. I took the glass of water he handed me and sipped, though my hands trembled the entire time.He waited. Patient. Too patient. When I finished, he set the glass aside and knelt in front of me again. Elbows on his knees, body relaxed. But his gaze was razor-sharp. He looked like he was watching me through a scope.“Let’s talk,” he repeated. No more playful slurs. No more lazy smirks. Just a cold calculation.I swallowed hard, even though it hurt. “About what?” My voice came out hoarse. Weak.

  • Shattered Vows   Chapter 46

CRAZY OR NOT~ALICE’S POV~I dragged myself out of bed, grumbling as I made my way downstairs. The banging on the door wouldn’t stop. Who the hell was that at this hour? It was four in the morning. People were supposed to be sleeping. I stood in the middle of the dark living room, flipping on the light. The pounding on the door only grew louder. “Harper! I know you’re in there! Open the fucking door!” A familiar voice slurred from outside. I rolled my eyes, groaning as I shuffled toward the door. Twisting the lock, I pulled it open— And there he was. Edward. Drunk. And beside him, half-collapsed on the porch, was Noah. “Edward,” I sighed, annoyed. “What the hell are you doing here?” “Where’s Harper?” he barked, pushing past me without waiting for an answer. “I know she’s inside!” “What the hell—” I shouted, stumbling back as he stormed into the house like he owned it. Who the hell did he think he was, barging in here like that? This wasn’t his home. It wasn’t even mine.

  • Shattered Vows   Chapter 45

A MAN LIKE GIDEON~EDWARD’S POV~I pulled up in front of Noah’s apartment building, parking in the near-empty lot. Killing the engine, I grabbed my keys and stepped out, slamming the door harder than necessary. I made my way to the elevator, jabbing the call button with more force than required. The doors slid open. I stepped inside and hit the button for the tenth floor—the top. Noah better has a damn good reason for dragging me out of my mother’s house tonight. He had a lot to answer for. A lot to make up for. And Harper... I gritted my teeth, glancing at my phone again. Still no calls. No texts. The nerve of her, ignoring me like I didn’t exist. Like I wasn’t trying. What the hell was her problem? The elevator dinged on the tenth floor, snapping me back to the present. I stepped out, walking down the dimly lit hallway toward apartment 135 at the end. I rang the bell once. No answer. I rang it again. This time, I heard the latch click. The door creaked open. Noa

  • Shattered Vows   Chapter 44

CANDLELIT DINNER 1~GIDEON'S POV~The rooftop was perfect. Minimalistic. Private. High above the noise of the city. Just the way I liked it. And tonight, it was all about Harper. I stood at the edge, staring out over the skyline as the sun bled into the horizon. Colors like fire and blood. Fitting. I took a slow breath, rolling my sleeves up to my elbows watching the staff finish setting the table. Nothing extravagant. Two chairs. Crisp white linens. Crystal glassware. And candlelight. Soft. Intimate. Deceptively simple. Because it wasn't about impressing her. It was about control. About giving her something no one else could. I turned when I heard the elevator doors open behind me. Footsteps, slow and hesitant. Good. She was already off balance. I liked that. "Wow..." Harper's voice was soft, almost breathless. I let her take it in. Let her have her moment. Then I turned, letting my gaze sweep over her slowly, deliberately. "You're late," I said, but my tone was smooth.

  • Shattered Vows   Chapter 43

DREAMING PERFECTION~ALICE'S POV~I stood in front of the shopping mall, staring at the baby mannequin in the window display. Tiny clothes, soft pastel colors—things I imagined seeing my child in. I arched a brow, resting my hand on my flat stomach. My gaze shifted as a family stepped out of the shop—a father, mother, and their little daughter, laughing as she clutched a new stuffed toy. For a brief second, I wondered. P‘If Edward had seen this... if he'd wanted this... would he have supported me? Would he have loved this child? Would he have wanted a future with her?’I sighed bitterly, my palm pressing lightly against the glass. "Who am I kidding?" I whispered to myself. Edward wanted nothing to do with this baby. With me. I slipped my hand into my purse, pulling out my phone. Scrolling through my contacts, I hesitated when my finger hovered over Noah's name. Should I?I needed a distraction. And he always was one. I hit the call button before I could think twice. It

YOUR LOVE MATTERS~GIDEON’S POV~The moment I saw Jessica’s name flash across my screen, I rolled my eyes. Why the hell was she calling me? And how did she even still have my number? I almost ignored it. Almost. But curiosity always was a dangerous thing. So I answered. And when she told me about Edward and Chanel, I wasn’t surprised. Not even a little. Chanel had always been stupid. Easily manipulated. And Edward? He was good at manipulating people who didn’t know any better. I had to give him that. Still, I was curious. Curious about what those two idiots thought they were plotting. Jessica said she had information, so I invited her over. She’d better have something worth my time. Because if this was another one of her pathetic attempts to get me back… She wasn’t as smart as I thought she was. Or maybe she was. Who knows? I guess I was about to find out.I was already pouring a drink when I heard the knock. Right on time. Jessica was many things, but late wasn’t one

  • Shattered Vows   Chapter 41

THE NEW DEAL~EDWARD’S POV~I watched Chanel carefully. She was all glossy lips, high-end perfume, and a smile that could make a man forget himself. But I wasn’t about to forget anything. Not now. Not with Gideon’s threat still ringing in my ears. ‘If he wants to play games… he’s not very good at them.’I clenched my jaw, my fingers twitching at my sides. Fine. Let’s play. Chanel tilted her head at me, her dark eyes curious, maybe even a little dangerous. “Your sister isn’t exactly subtle,” she said, running a manicured finger along the frame of a painting by the hallway. “I can see why you two don’t get along.” I smirked, stepping closer. “Jessica doesn’t know how to mind her own business.” “Hmm,” Chanel hummed, trailing her gaze back to me. “And what about you, Edward? Do you mind your own business?” “Never,” I said, matching her stare. “Especially when there’s something I want.” She gave a low, amused chuckle. “And what is it you want?” I didn’t answer right away.
