"What's going on Harper," he asked
I stared at him, hatred, and rage-filled my inside, how could he sit here and pretend like everything was okay
"How could you Edward" I asked him, the pain in my voice.
"What are you talking about, babe" he tried to hold my hand, but I pulled away
"Don't you call me that" I simply told him
"If you are going to act this way, I think it better I leave, I have an appointment by 4," he said standing up to leave
"Appointment or Alice" I spoke out this time, I could see the confusion and shock on his face
"What-what are you talking about" he stuttered
I stared at my engagement ring, rolling and playing with it "I was faithful, I loved you, I supported you, all for what? I stare at him
"Harper" he called out my name slowly, still trying to decipher if I knew about him and Alice
But my stare said it all, he sat down, his hand now placed on his mouth. "Babe, please, let me explain"
"That's the problem, Edward, what exactly are you trying to explain" I asked my voice filled with anger and hurt.
Edward sighed, his eyes filled with guilt. "I made a mistake, Harper. I got caught up in a moment of weakness with Alice. It was never my intention to hurt you"
I scoffed, tears welling up in my eyes. "A moment of weakness? So that's how you justify it? How could you do this to me?"
Edward reached out for my hand again but I pulled away once more. " No, Edward. I can't just brush this off as a mistake, you slept with my sister, and you betrayed my trust, and our commitment to each other."
He looked down, unable to meet my gaze. "I know, and I'm sorry, Harper. I never wanted to hurt. I love you"
Tears streamed down my face as I shook my head. "Love isn't supposed to hurt like this, Edward. How can I believe anything you say"
He pleaded with me, his voice full of remorse. "I'm willing to do anything to try and fix this. I'll go to therapy, I'll do whatever it takes to regain your trust. Please, give me one more chance"
I looked at him, uncertainty clouding my thoughts. I loved him, that much was true, but could I ever trust him again? Could I move past this betrayal and rebuild what we once had?
Taking a deep breath, I finally spoke, my voice filled with pain and determination. "I need time, Edward. Time to process everything and figure out if I can ever forgive you, but right now, I want you to bed things with Alice"
"Harper," he said
"So much for trying to make things work, it's either that or I am calling off the wedding and returning your ring" I threatened
"Fine, fine, you win, I will call it off" he managed to say
I stood up and stared at him for some minutes, my heart broke just by looking at him, "You don't deserve good things Edward" I said, walking away.
I drove home exhausted from the stress of work and Well my problem. Ava has been kind enough to keep me company, tho she had work to do.
She was like a sister, better than the one I had. I struggled with my keys, unlocking my door, and I stepped in. Without doing much I dropped on my living room couch.
My eyes staring at the ceiling, my phone rang, who could this be at this time, I picked it up and stared at it, it was an unknown number, I hesitated before I pick
"Hello, who's this?" I asked
"Hello Harper," he said
His voice sounded familiar, I tried to recall where, and then it struck me. "Gideon"
"Whoa, you still remember my name, am honored," he teased
"I never forget it at first" I shyly said
"Sorry, I could have called sooner, but I have been busy," he said at the other end, his voice calm.
"Ohh, it's no big deal, we all have been busy" I assured him I wasn't angry.
We became silent for a minute before he spoke again.
"How about we meet up, for a friendly drink"
"A drink? right now?" I asked
"Yeah, why not? It's been so long since we last saw each other," Gideon replied
I hesitated for a moment, thinking about how exhausted I was and the incident that happened the last time we saw each other. But then again, meeting up with Gideon might be a good distraction, a chance to catch up and take things off my mind.
"Sure why not?" I finally agreed. "Where do you suggest we meet up"
Gideon thought for a moment before suggesting a nearby Bar, not far from where I lived. It was a cozy spot with dim lighting and a relaxed atmosphere.
"It a surprise you know that there's a bar not too far from where I stay" I managed to say
"G****e map and some help from a good friend made it easy to find something comfortable and close by for you" he added
"Isn't that sweet of you" I smiled
"Meet you there in 30 minutes," he asked
"Sure, let me freshen up, just got in from work," I told him
"Sure, take your time" he insisted, ending the call.
I stood up and hurried into the shower, took a quick bath, raided my wardrobe, and put on a turtleneck dress that hit around mid-shin. Pair it with some sheer black tights and a pair of heeled booties, the night was cold so I wore a long trench coat. My hair is tied in a bun, I look perfect.
I picked up my purse and stepped out, I felt excited, I hadn't felt this way since Edward proposed that night, in Minnesota, it was supposed to be a getaway vacation for us but it was more than I expected.
I wasn't in the mood to drive, so I stopped a taxi and got in.
"Branch Bar," I told him
The drive was calm, the cold wind of the night feeling my face as I stared out the window.
"Aren't you cold Miss," The Taxi guy asked
"Nope, I haven't felt this warm in a long time," I told him a smile beaming on my face as he stared at me confused
Gideon was the reason for this, who is Gideon and why do I suddenly feel light whenever I hear his voice? The taxi stopped at the front entrance, I got out, paying him his money as he drove off.
I stood there staring at the glowing and vibrant sign before stepping in, the place was a little crowded, and my eyes searched the crowd, where could he be
"You look beautiful," A voice said from behind me
I turned, and there stood Gideon, he looked different From the last time, he was too clean this time, his dark hair fell slightly to his face, his chiseled jawline beautifully sculpted, his grey eyes so sharp he could Pierce into your soul.
He was beautiful, the most beautiful man I have ever laid my eyes on.
"Are you okay" he touched my arm gently, and his eyes held mine as I tried to speak but words failed me
I nodded. Assuring him, he looked around, calling a young waiter over,
"I don't know if you could get me a good space," he asked him, giving him some cash
The young waiter smiled and asked him to follow him as he led the way, Gideon grabbed me by the hand, and we were led to an empty seat, close to a window.
"Is this okay?" he asked
"It's perfect" Gideon responded
I watched as the waiter smiled and walked away, he must have been so happy, making that huge sum of tips
"You are very good with that kind of stuff" I teased him
He smiled, pulling out a chair for me to sit on, and helping me take off my coat as I sat down.
"I grew up mostly around bars, I had to learn," he said taking a seat across from me
"Is this like those, from Grass to Grace storylines" I smiled, teasing him
He smiled, exposing his dimples, "Maybe, maybe not" he answered
He called for the waiter again, "what do you feel like drinking or eating" he asked
"Mash potatoes and steak with beans," I told the Walter
"Get us a bottle of wine along," Gideon told him
"Sure," he said walking away
"Aren't you eating?" I asked Curious
"Am fine" he replied, "so how's the revenge coming along?" he asked genuinely concerned
I shrugged
"He asked for a second chance, so…., I gave him an option, he has to break up with Alice" I managed to say
He stared at me, his expression cold, I felt uncomfortable like I had done something wrong
"Do you still love him" his tone thickened
Confused I stared at him, trying to find the right answer to his question.
"I don't know" I whispered
Gideon eye's narrowed slightly as if he was searching for some hidden truth within my answer. I could feel my heart racing, Unsure how he react he would react to my honesty. After a moment of silence, he sighed and looked away."Well," he began, his voice tangled with disappointment, it is not an easy question to answer, I understand that"Gideon's eyes narrowed slightly as if he were searching for some hidden truth within my answer. I could feel my heart racing, unsure of how he would react to my honesty. After a moment of silence, he sighed and looked away."Well," he began, his voice tinged with disappointment, "it's not an easy question to answer, I understand that."I could sense his underlying frustration, but I wasn't sure if it was directed towards me or the situation as a whole. Gideon had been there for me when I felt lost and confused, despite meeting a stranger for the first time, he was ready to listen and help out. But now, as we sat in this crowded restaurant, the weigh
I rolled on the soft mattress, my hand feeling the other side of the bed. My eyes shot wide and opened. I stared at the space.I quickly sat upright, picking up the tee next to me and putting it on. I walked downstairs and there he was, looking perfect."What are you doing" I asked, walking to the kitchen counter as my eyes fell on him. Sitting at the kitchen table I held a cup of coffee that Gideon had brewed already.I watched Gideon fumble with the pancake batter in the mixing bowl. I took a deep breath and gathered the courage to speak. "Gideon I need to talk to you about something."Gideon turned to stare at me his eyes full of hope. "Sure what's up?"I hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I had a great time with you last night, but I don't want anything more than friendship. I'm still trying to figure out what I want in life, and I'm not ready for a serious relationship right now."Gideon's face fell, but he nodded understandingly. "Okay, I understand. I just wanted to mak
Gideon pov)I anxiously waited for Mr. Henry to get back to me. Forex Bank, renowned as the best and top firm bank in San Francisco, had been on my radar for quite some time.Their recent investment in Globe Rice and Technology sparked my interest, as it gave us a chance to rank 5th in the world of technology."Mr. Rice, I apologize for keeping you waiting," Mr. Henry said as he took a seat in front of me."No worries. I imagine you have a lot on your plate," I replied politely, smiling.Mr. Henry returned the smile. "Don't we all? I received the documents your PA sent me yesterday, and I must say, I was intrigued by your vision and plan," he said, chiming in."I'm honored," I responded, a smile forming on my lips. "So, are we on the same page regarding the contract, Mr. Henry? Time waits for no one," I tried to nudge him."Well, Mr. Rice, I will send my answer to you without fail tomorrow," Mr. Henry assured me."Trust me, you won't regret it," I guaranteed him. Turning to face Joshu
(Gideon pov)I stared at the information in my hands. "Thanks, James," I told him, shutting the door. I was curious, I planned to help her, and this was my way of doing so.I knew she created the just friends boundaries but I will prove to her that she could trust me.I walked towards my living room, taking a seat on the couch as I glanced at each document.Edward Pierce, 28 years old, got promoted to manager last month. He is the only son of his family. Has a sister. "Jessica," I say out her name.Picking up her picture, I stared at him, I could use her to get to Edward, ruin him completely.I picked up my call and called Joshua. "Hello Joshua, please cancel my letting for today" I added"Is there a problem Sir" Joshua added at the other end."No Joshua, just busy, I have a big fish to catch," I said heading to my bedroom to get ready."A big fish??" Joshua askedA smile formed on my lips, as he tried to grasp the situation as I ended the call.According to my research, she works as
(Edward pov)I pulled Alice aside. She was beginning to get on my nerves."Why are you so hell-bent on ruining my life with your sister? We had sex no big deal.""We had sex no big deal, is that how you are putting it" she questioned. "What if everything I did for you, was no big deal"I furrowed my brows, this was getting too much. I paced back and forth trying to understand the situation.I don't need Alice, I have no use for her, she was practically living under her sister's care, which currently she has lost. I don't need a liability right now.Harper is a perfect choice, she has a stable and good income-earning job, and she is resourceful in many ways. With her support, I know I will have the dream life I have always wanted."Baby I know you are confused, but trust me, we don't need Harper" Alice held my hand her eyes pleading."That's where you are wrong Alice, I need Harper, you need your sister more than anything, you are still in college, and you haven't worked in your life b
(Harper's pov)I folded the boxes as I glanced around, hoping I got everything I needed. Edward stood in the kitchen, his eyes darting back to his phone and then back to me.His expression was sour, "did you tell our friends about our wedding being called off because I cheated on you" he asked, his coffee mug in his hand."Why are you asking me, it not like I'm that close to any of your stupid friends, they are just like you in all ways, stupid!" I responded backHis eyes stared coldly at me saying nothing, I continued uploading my things into the empty box I had next to me."You don't have to be mean about it, they supported our dating" he finally saidFeeling annoyed, I turned to face him. "They supported our relationship, the same friends that took you to a strip house and invited Kelly your ex-girlfriend to my birthday or is it the same friends that took you roller skating on our anniversary" I could go on, cause the list was much but seeing his expression i could tell he got my p
(Harper's pov)We lay on the bed, my head placed on Gideon's bared chest, "I thought you were still angry at me" I told him"Why would I be" he answered, placing a kiss on my head, "I just thought you needed time to sort things out"I smiled, If only Edward was half-decent like Gideon, I would have understood his stupid reasons for making stupid choices."So what have you been up to," I askedGideon stopped stroking my hair as he spoke. "Busy with work, got a new project coming up at my work firm""What did you say you do again" I sat upright, now staring at him.He smiled, "I never told you what I do Harper, we never actually made it to that conversation" he replied backI blushed feeling ashamed, I couldn't believe not asking someone I had slept with two times, gone out with, and even kissed what he does for a living.I was so attracted to him, that I forgot he was still a stranger."Am not usually like this" I tried to defend my action. "We just met at an unexpected time, I normall
(Harper's pov)I stared at Ava who just stormed in, my eyes moving from my laptop to her. Ava and being dramatic were like 5&6."You never told me Alice was going to be an intern here," she asked furiouslyI stared at Ava confused, what was she talking about, Alice wasn't ready for an internship till next year."Alice? Internship?" I stood up from my seat and walked out, Ava followed behind. My gaze fixated on Alice, she was truly here, but how, Alice now turned to face me and smiled."Sis" she called out wavingI could hear murmuring in the room as all eyes stared at me, some condemning me for using my connection to get her a spot here.Grabbing Alice by the hand, I pulled her to my office shutting the door behind us."What do you think you are doing" I asked"What else, am here for an internship" Alice replied, walking around my office. "This is nice, I wonder how it feels getting an office like this," she said turning to beam me a smile"Did you sleep with the manager here, cause i
(A DONE DEAL)~GIDEON’S POV~ I stared at the stack of files in front of me, my desk cluttered with paperwork. It had been work, work, and more work. Dealing with so many mergers was exhausting, and the pressure to get everything done on time was weighing on me. I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. I missed spending time with Harper. My eyes shifted to my phone, sitting quietly on the desk. Maybe I should call her. I wanted to hear her voice. I tapped the screen, unlocked it, and scrolled to my contact list. Her name stared back at me, tempting me to tap it. I was about to give in to the urge when there was a knock on the door. I looked up as the door opened slightly, and Joshua, my assistant, stepped inside. He had that look on his face—the one that said he had news to deliver. “Is there a problem, Joshua?” I asked, setting my phone down. “The report you asked for, sir,” he said, making his way toward me and handing me a file. I took it, unlocking the folder
(Start Afresh)~ALICE’S POV~“What do you want?” Edward’s voice came through sharp and impatient on the other end of the line. I rolled my eyes at his attitude. He should be grateful I even bothered to call him. The nerve of this idiot. If it weren’t for the child growing inside me, I wouldn’t have bothered. Scratch that—I wouldn’t have even looked in his direction if I had a choice. But here I was, stuck in this mess with him. “Still at the hospital, I guess?” I said, keeping my tone casual, waiting for him to reply. “I’m not in the mood for games, Alice. Just get to the damn point.” His voice was clipped, laced with frustration. I shifted on the couch, leaning back into the cushions as I stared at the ceiling. “Don’t take your frustration out on me,” I snapped, my tone sharp. There was silence on the other end, thick and tense before he finally spoke again. “What do you want, Alice? Surely you didn’t call just to piss me off.” “Well, for once, you got something right,
(The Bills)~EDWARD'S POV~I've been stuck in this hospital bed for five days now, and Harper still hasn't shown up. I know I hurt her, but the least she could do was come and see me. Just once. Lying here feels useless. I should be working, proving myself. If I even still have a job. This job was supposed to be my chance to turn things around, to show Harper I was serious about changing. I wanted her to see that I could put in the effort and that we could get back to the way things were. Frustration bubbled up as I glanced around the room, searching for my belongings. I needed my phone. I couldn't just sit here, waiting like some invalid. I had to do something. The sound of the door creaking open drew my attention. Jessica walked in, her gaze landing on me before she scanned the room. "Where's Mom?" she asked, her tone flat."I told her to go home and rest," I said, irritation creeping into my voice. "She shouldn't be here all the time. You know, you could help her out."Jessic
~Harper’s POV~The drive back to my house was quiet, and for once, I welcomed the silence. It felt like a relief to finally share how I had dealt with my parent’s death. It hadn’t been easy, but somehow, I pulled through. When Gideon pulled into the driveway, my eyes shifted from him to the faint glow of light coming from the house. I sighed deeply. Alice must be home. The thought of seeing her face made my stomach churn. Just two days under the same roof with her felt like an eternity in hell. “You have a guest?” Gideon asked, his eyes darting between me and the house. “It’s Alice,” I said, the name bitter on my tongue. Even saying it aloud felt like admitting defeat—especially to someone who knew how broken my relationship with her was, not to mention what she’d done. Gideon raised an eyebrow, his fingers drumming on the steering wheel. “I never pegged you as the forgiving type.” “That’s because I’m not,” I shot back, my voice laced with frustration. But I could fee
~HARPER’S POV~The drive home was peaceful, the hum of the car engine blending into the night’s silence. Honestly, everything about tonight had been amazing. Gideon had a way of making even the worst days feel lighter. But deep down, the lingering weight of earlier events refused to lift. My run-in with Edward at the office replayed in my mind like a broken record. That jerk dared to lay his hands on me in public. It wasn’t like it was the first time, but it didn’t make it any less humiliating—or infuriating. I felt shaken, the way I hadn’t since the night my parents died. I clenched my hands into fists, the old anger simmering under my skin. I would never forgive Edward for that. Never. “Are you okay?” Gideon’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned to face him, forcing a small smile. “Yeah, I’m fine… just thinking. Old memories,” I said quietly. “Edward?” he asked, his tone steady but his grip tightening slightly on the steering wheel. Even though his eyes stayed
~Gideon's POV~ The drive home from the airport was exhausting, the hours of travel leaving me drained. Two weeks away from back-to-back business meetings had been more than enough. As Joshua, my assistant, navigated the car through familiar streets, he filled me in on updates from the firm. The most notable one? Edward. He had started working at the company and already managed to cause a scene. "He hit Harper," Joshua said, his voice laced with disdain. "Right in front of her coworkers." Of course, Edward would pull something like that. Hopeless and reckless—he would never change. "Was he dealt with properly?" I asked, my tone sharp. "Yes, sir." Joshua handed me his phone, showing me photos of the results. I stared at them for a moment, a flicker of satisfaction breaking through my exhaustion. Edward deserved every bit of it. "Good. Next time he lays a hand on Harper or anyone else in the firm, he'll face worse." "Yes, sir," Joshua said. "Inform payroll to send him on
(Edward’s pov)At that moment, a surge of anger swept over me, fueled by the embarrassment of feeling foolish. The door flung open abruptly, hands yanking me away from her.My eyes widened in the realization of my actions. What had I done? I stared at my hands, then walked over to where Harper sat on the floor. She winced, her hand gently pressing against her neck as she coughed, trying to alleviate the pain. Ava knelt beside her, patting her back in a gesture of solace.“Harper... I...” I attempted to speak, but before I could utter a word, I was interrupted.“Don't come near me!” Harper's yell reverberated in the room, drawing the attention of the gathered crowd. As murmurs and curious stares shifted from me to Harper, Mr. Sterling entered the scene, his gaze flicking between the two of us.“Mr. Pierce, care to explain what's happening here? Have you resorted to physical harm against a colleague?” Mr. Sterling's inquiry hung heavily in the air, all eyes fixed on me awaiting a respon
(Harper’s pov)It has been two fucking days of hell, from my work and home, Alice was getting on my nerves and I couldn't take it anymore. She creates messes around the house and acts nonchalant and uses her pregnancy as an excuse, like why do I give a fuck. I didn't get her pregnant so why should I be suffering from a mistake she dragged herself into not to mention Edward?I groan, I get annoyed just thinking about him, he has turned the whole office upside down and I get the side-eyed looks from everyone because they all still think am engaged with him.Since Edward goes around lying about me begging him to take me back after he called off our engagement, the nerve of that good-for-nothing guy.He was always making mistakes and and the end of the day we the junior staff always get scolded for his errors.I have been up and down cleaning his mistake to avoid more eyes and insults from the other staff and all he does is yell and take a one-hour break.“Here are the documents,” I said
(Harper’s Pov)I stared at Alice as she stood there, a little luggage bag in her hand, confused, I leaned on the door.“Mind explaining what's going on,” I asked trying to understand what she was doing here.“I need a place to stay for a while,” she said.I arched a brow at her statement, was she real, after everything she had the guts to stand in front of me saying all this.“What happened to your dorm room, did you cause trouble again” I questioned waiting for her to respond.Alice laughed crazily, her hand grabbing her suitcase, Has she finally gone crazy, why should I even be concerned about her, she was practically the cause of her problem.“Of course, it is always Alice causing trouble, my perfect too-good sister is always innocent” she glared at me.“Are you here to argue or get on nerves?” I askedShe rolled her eyes, digging her fingers into her already messed-up hair before speaking. “Are you going to let me in or not”“Do you have any right to act up right now, or give opti
