Chapter 4

Mickey's POV

Clicking glasses with my staff, I had a bright smile on my face as my heart bubbled with joy.

My company had just completed a fashion event that earned us the fifth spot in the whole country. It was worth celebrating.

“We are just getting started; get ready for more groundbreaking records,” I said at the top of my voice, and my words were reciprocated with cheers from my staff.

My fashion industry was just two years old, yet I had been able to make a name for myself. It was never all my efforts alone; it all spanned down to the support that I received from my staff and, most especially, Lugia Dimitri, my sponsor and savior.

After my divorce from Kendrick five years ago, the first thought that came to my mind was to terminate my life and that of the child growing inside of me, but fate had a different plan.

Just when I was about to jump off the cliff, a stranger held me from behind, giving me a second chance at life.

Those few minutes which we had spoken were forever going to be stamped in my memory.

Not only did he allow me to make a name for myself, but he was there to guide me all through the way until I was able to navigate around without his aid.

And now, here I was breaking barriers and conquering obstacles.

“Ms. Mickey, you have a meeting with the foreign investors, you should get ready for it.” Erica, my assistant said, taking my glass from me.

“Thanks for the reminder; I forgot about it,” I replied, and with a little smile etched on the side of my lips, I began to make my way towards my office.

While I was waiting for their arrival, I was busy going through some documents to pass the time and, at the same time, clear my table.

A few minutes into this, my telephone began to buzz and I immediately received the call.

“Mickey Darwin on the line, how may I be of help to you?” My fingers were still dancing on the keyboard until I heard Teddy’s voice over the speaker.

Overwhelmed, I pulled myself to my feet, grinning widely. It had been three years since we last saw ourselves or even talked.

“Are you free? I just returned.” He said on the other end with a chuckle and I could already imagine the smile on his face.

“Oh! I wish I could create some time for you, but right now, I'm choked up with work.” I muttered, rubbing my forehead in regret.

“I will come see you instead. Text me your current address.” He said only to hang up the next minute.

Grinning widely, I wrapped my hands around myself. All the while, I thought I wasn't going to see him again, but he appeared out of the blue.

For the rest of the day, I was filled with so much energy that it was infectious and Erica didn't fail to point it out to me.

“I guess you have a date.” She smirked, rolling her eyes.

“Not a date! A reunion instead.” I replied, still feeling giddy like a little child who was expecting a gift.

“Uhm… I see. What about Kayden? She is still at school, and… it's just half an hour before she closes.”

“Don't worry, I have already made arrangements with her nanny, she will go pick her up in my stead.” I had barely finished speaking when Teddy arrived, waving at me with a bright smile on his face.

Returning his smile, I said to Erica, “I will be right back.”

“Hey, Mickey.” He called out to me as I quickly closed the distance between us and jumped into his arms.

“I have missed you so much.” I sobbed in his chest.

“Me too.” He replied, combing through my hair.

At the end of our little reunion, we walked hand in hand to the exit, and together, we made our way to the restaurant of our choice.

Now sitting opposite each other in the middle of the restaurant, I had my lips against a glass of wine while watching him as he scrolled through his laptop.

Even with a slight frown on his face, he still wore his handsome look and I couldn't take my eyes off him.

“Are you alright?” His voice broke into my trail of thoughts, and at once, I spat out the drink I held in my mouth as I began to cough.

“Hey! Take it easy.” He patted my back until my cough subsided, and then he handed a napkin to me.

“Thanks.” I wiped my mouth, avoiding his gaze as I couldn't look back at him.

Fiddling with my fingers, I tried to initiate all the conversations I had brewed in my head when I heard his voice on the phone but my head suddenly went blank.

“Come on, Mickey, it's me, Teddy.” Leaning forward, he held my hand. “I have missed you so much, Mickey, and for the calls and texts, I'm sorry, I have no excuse for that.” He said in a breath.

“You shouldn't be apologizing, I'm also at fault.” Pointing at my buzzing phone, I said, “I have to take this call.”

“Go ahead.”

Pushing my chair backward, I quickly made my way to the bathroom, and after speaking to Kayden’s nanny, I placed my back against the cold wall, my eyes tightly shut.

“Get a grip of yourself.” I chided, digging my teeth into my lips as I grasped my skirt with both hands.

Smiling like a maniac, I quickly covered my face with both hands, my heart fluttering like a teenager in love.

“What's wrong with your Mickey? Fine! Just admit you are hitting on him and get this over with.” I rolled my eyes, sinking deep into the wall.

When I finally got a grip of myself, I quickly stuttered out of the bathroom, and in my haste to join Teddy on the table, I bumped into a hard chest.
