Alma froze, was this man offering her the money for her mother's surgery in exchange for posing as his girlfriend for a few days and pretending to marry him?
That seemed very low to her, but, on the other hand, she wanted to help her mother, she wanted to get that money somehow, and she had spent the whole afternoon praying and asking to find some way to be able to do that operation.
Perhaps, this would be his miracle?
“Then? What do you say? Is it a deal? Edan repeated again.
She hesitated, still confused, when, a moment later, Mateo, the doctor who was treating her mother, appeared in the cafeteria, calling Miss Alma Contreras, Luz Rivas's relative.
When Edan saw the doctor walking toward them, Mateo noticed the scene between Alma and his companion, whom he looked at with some suspicion.
“Soul. Mateo approached the young woman. "Do you have a minute?"
“... Of course. She turned to Edan for a second, but didn't say anything, she walked away accompanied by Mateo. "Is something wrong, Doctor?" Did something happen to my mom? She asked nervously.
“Oh, no... Listen to me. He took her by the shoulders. "I've been moving some contacts and I have great news for you.
“What? She answered, stunned.
"I have a donor for your mom. Matthew announced proudly.
She stared at him, that was good, possibly, but it didn't change his situation. In fact, for the donation, there was no problem, because she could do it herself, the real problem was the money.
“... Thank you. That was all Alma could say. He let her go, somewhat disappointed with her reaction.
"I think it will be of great use to you, if you had donated, you would not be able to take care of your mother, taking care of her..." Mateo explained to him again, to make him understand the benefit. “ And there's something else...
“What?
“I managed to get the hospital to approve the surgery by waiving my fees, that is, you would only have to pay for the material and the use of the equipment.
"Oh, fence. Alma was really grateful, but how did she explain to the doctor that she didn't have the money to pay for any of that? "Thank you, Doctor. She tried to smile at him.
"You can call me Matthew." He replied, smiling in response.
Mateo expected a different reaction from Alma, he had spent the whole afternoon talking to different people, making contacts, pleading for her and deep down he was telling himself that he was doing it as a work of charity, to help those people.
But in reality, deep down, he knew he was doing it, because he had fallen in love with that young woman. She was very pretty, sweet, innocent, and Mateo hadn't been able to get her out of his head all day.
He was drawn to her as soon as he saw her in that hallway when they collided.
"Well, thank you, Matthew. Alma answered, trying to be kind and at the same time, feeling trapped in a hole, in which there was only one way out.
She must have felt lucky, even though she knew it wasn't the right thing to do, life offered her an opportunity. Yes, her mother had suddenly fallen ill, however, there were two people in that hospital who offered her a hand and helped her.
Was she going to let go of that opportunity out of a moral sense?
No!
Alma began to feel optimistic, her situation was improving and she should be grateful, she should help her mother, so, with much more enthusiasm, she thanked the doctor again and turned around, to go directly to Edan, who was looking at them from a distance, very serious.
"Did something happen?" He asked, seeing her arrive with a different attitude.
"It's only for a few days, isn't it?" Do you promise that there will be no physical contact, that it will not be necessary, and that you will not overdo it? And the whole marriage thing will be fake, right? She asked, quickly. He expanded a smile as he realized her intention.
“Yes. Edan replied, rising from his seat excitedly, greatly relieved by Alma's new attitude.
"Will you pay for my mother's surgery?" She asked, finally, and that was the most important question.
"Of course, for everything, you don't have to worry. He nodded solemnly. Alma stretched out her hand to him.
"Well, I do.
And as if it were any business, Edan stretched out his hand, taking hers, giving himself a squeeze.
Now, there were certain details that needed to be worked out in a very short time, so Edan asked Alma to take a seat, they were to talk about what they would do and what they would say.
Everything had to look as real as possible, his parents couldn't suspect it. So, they both sat down, again, across from each other.
Edan, meanwhile, watched with some satisfaction as the doctor who had just spoken to Alma walked away, looking at them with an expression of rage.

"Well, Alma. Edan began to speak, taking his phone from his ear. "I've already talked to my lawyer, he'll write a document, something simple, where the points of the deal we made are specified, so you'll be calmer. She nodded. "Besides, he's already locating an actor, who will come tomorrow and pretend to be a notary, that's already settled.
“Not bad. She murmured.
"As for your mother, first thing tomorrow, you ask the administration to issue you the invoice, with all expenses included, and once you give it to me, I'll take care of it."
“Perfect.
"Well, I think it's time.
“It's time? Alma repeated, feeling butterflies in her stomach, trembling with nerves.
"Let's introduce you to my parents.
She had never felt so nervous in her life, Alma felt like she would collapse at any moment, but she had to be strong, for her mother's sake.
She stood up and stepped forward, when again, Edan stopped her.
He looked her up and down. "Don't you have extra clothes in that backpack?" Or some makeup? He asked, remembering what he looked like. She raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
“What? No! I've been here all day and I came straight from the university...
“Well. He interrupted her. "I'll come up with something, but we should at least find some toilets so you can wash your face and brush your hair."
Alma stared at him with her mouth open, this man might be dressed like a gentleman, in the finest clothes, but he had no tact at all.
However, this was a job and supposedly, he was paying her, so generally speaking, he was her boss, so she just nodded.
"And another thing..." She waited with a grim face. "We have to figure out what to do with that bag, I can't take you with my parents, with that hanging around."
"And what am I supposed to do?" Here are all my books. She replied a little angrily.
He pondered the situation for a moment. "There's no choice, we'll keep it in my car."
They went to the parking lot and Alma almost fell backwards when she saw that luxurious car, there she realized that she was not with any man, she must have a lot of money.
While Edan couldn't stop thinking about the young girl's clothes, she was pretty, but in today's world, that wasn't enough. He would have liked to take her to some store and buy her some fashionable outfit, but it would be impossible at that hour.
He'd have to make a good excuse for his mother because his father wouldn't notice.
They went back into the hospital, got on the elevator, and when they reached the third floor, they held hands to start the show.
Hand in hand, Alma and Edan walked straight toward the woman, whom Alma had seen approaching Edan earlier.Angelica, Edan's mother when she saw them coming, got up immediately.“Edan! Why did it take you so long? He walked over to them."I'm sorry mom, I went to get my girlfriend..." Edan pointed to the young woman next to him, who immediately stretched out his hand towards the woman. Angelica looked her up and down, her mouth open."Nice to meet you, I'm Alma. He smiled shyly, noticing how the woman detailed her faces. "I'm very sorry, ma'am..."“Angelica. Stunned, Angelica stretched out her hand, above all, out of decency."Angelica," Alma repeated, smiling, as she squeezed Edan's mother's hand. "As I was saying, Mrs. Angelica. I'm sorry for the delay, but there was a lot of traffic, even though Edan took me out of my house with these clothes and wouldn't let me change, because I was in a hurry, it took us some time to get here.Edan turned to Alma, surprised. He didn't think the gi
It was very early when Edan approached the room of Luz Rivas, Alma's mother, looked out the window of the door and saw her.Alma was sitting on a bench next to her mother's bed, holding her hand and talking to her, although Mrs. Luz looked asleep. A strange feeling lodged in Edan's chest, but he could not define it.Uncomfortable, because of that strange feeling inside, Edan decided to knock on the door, there was a lot to do that day.Alma was surprised, she didn't expect her fake boyfriend so early, and the surprise was even greater when she saw that he brought her a coffee and some rolls. That seemed like a very kind act on his part, with what little Alma had seen of Edan, she considered him to be a kind man. They sat together on a distant bench, where no one could see them, and Alma felt her revive just by smelling the hot coffee."How is your mother doing?" He asked as he watched her eat breakfast."As far as it goes, she's fine, thank you.“That's nice. Edan murmured, turning hi
"Very well, Alma. The bill for your mother's surgery has already been paid and your performance has gone better than I expected, you have fulfilled your end of the bargain. Edan said, frowning."But there is still a lack of false marriage, why haven't we done it?" Alma answered, confused. He clenched his jaw."There's been a change of plans..." Edan glanced sideways at Diego, who was present. That's why I introduced you to my lawyer, we need to make some changes to the terms we had negotiated.“What do you mean? Edan swallowed at Alma's question."The false notary, he never came..." And my mother has come up with the idea of having a friend of hers marry us, who is here..." Alma raised an eyebrow, fitting the pieces together. "He's a royal notary.“What?! No! Are you talking about us really getting married? She shouted, making Edan straighten up tensely."Before you say anything else!" Diego interjected. "Let me explain, Alma. The terms will be the same, there will be no more contact
They all gathered to start the marriage, but something wasn't right, although Alma was smiling in front of everyone, Edan couldn't help but notice a glint of hostility and anger in her eyes every time she looked at him, and that, he didn't like.A new and unfamiliar feeling was beginning to form inside Edan, he felt guilty, perhaps he had been too Alma.Only, he is a very explosive person when he gets angry, it was a common thing in his behavior and never before, he had cared if his attitude affected someone else. But now, seeing her angry, pretending to be happy next to him, Edan couldn't help but feel that she hadn't behaved in the right way with Alma and that was something new.Why now, and why did he care with her?Edan didn't know, he only understood one thing, he didn't want Alma to be angry with him anymore."Now I declare you, husband and wife. The notary said. "You can kiss the bride."Edan and Alma looked at each other, he was calm, while she turned red as a tomato.Time see
"Until I finally see your face, my dear!" Vivian hissed sarcastically, leaving the door of her apartment open for Edan to enter."I was very busy. He murmured.Edan walked in and closed the door, immediately began to loosen his tie, preparing for a passionate reconciliation. Of course, after he had calmed Vivian's bad mood. That was the norm in their relationship."Did you get what I sent?" Edan asked, in the middle of the room, noticing that Vivian didn't turn to look at his face."Are you talking about those ridiculous flowers and cheap chocolates? She growled, pointing to a table in the corner, where the gifts were still intact, the flowers beginning to wither, for they had not been put in water. "Do you think you can buy me off with that crap?"Vivian, I told you; my father was hospitalized..." She turned, snorting. "He's in a very serious condition.Edan had called Vivian several times to tell her about her father's unfortunate situation, but about marriage and about Alma, she ha
Edan didn't want to make a new insult to Alma, he still felt guilty for how he spoke to her that same morning, that's why he left quickly, trying to control himself, although inside, he felt betrayed. With the fact that she talked about her contract, no matter who it was and whoever it was, he felt it was a violation of his trust.Besides, there was his inappropriate approach to that man, that simple Doctor, on top of all that, it was driving him crazy.Ever since Edan met her, he thought she was an honest, innocent, and kind young woman. Now, I didn't know what to believe about Alma."Edan, wait! He felt someone tugging at the sleeve of his jacket and turned around, still frowning. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for anyone to find out, I understand the nondisclosure agreement and I know I failed, but I had to tell my mother the truth and Mateo listened..." Edan looked up at the young woman, his frown diminished, although his eyes still seemed somewhat dull. Alma, on the other hand, loo
Mrs. Luz, Alma's mother, was supposed to be in the hospital for a few more days, however, Alma couldn't stay by her side for that long. Not when she had three underage siblings alone at home, without adult supervision, and although her sister, Naomi, had promised to take over, she couldn't leave that responsibility entirely on her shoulders, she was just a teenager. So, Alma had to go home and leave her mother in the hospital alone for the night. When she got home, the atmosphere felt heavy and gloomy, her siblings were watching TV in the living room in silence, and the fact that Alma felt so tired didn't help her spirits up.Apparently, their father's abandonment had affected them all quite a bit. Thanks to Naomi, the youngest, twelve-year-old Santiago and six-year-old Diana, were already clean and showered, ready to go to bed. With great affection, Alma hugged her little brothers, who looked sad and discouraged, she sent them to bed.“Alma, some friends from college called you. Naom
Alma went back to the hospital, with the check that had just been given to her in her hands, she kept looking at him as tears streamed down her face. Why did the problems keep coming? Why did it all pile up? Why did he feel that everything was against him?"Enough of crying," she said to herself as she stood in front of the hospital, covered her red face a little with some makeup, and left, determined, to her mother's room.Everything changed as soon as he entered and saw her smiling faintly, at that moment he knew that it was all worth it and that, as long as they were alive, there was hope. But by that same afternoon, another unsettling thought was coming to her: Why didn't Edan show up?He was supposed to pick her up to visit her father, which was part of the contract and it was part of the show.As the hours passed, Alma began to worry. He even reproached himself for his stupidity, how could he not ask Edan for his cell phone number in case of an emergency? At least then, I could
