“Woah! Is this the place, Briane?” blurted out Slone, her eyes so wide Briane feared it would fall.

They arrived at the Forbidden Forest a little bit late. It was dusk; the sky blue tint painting the horizon dimmed to indigo but with the hint of the golden and orangeish explosion of colors as the sun made its way to a deep slumber. If it weren’t through the Zorpheans and Berry who needed to rest, they would have arrived sooner. Though the Zorpheans let them go, Briane couldn’t help but threatened them just to make sure they wouldn’t make a move against them.

“Don’t be fooled, Sloane!” said Briane to a hush, focusing his eyes on the scope of the forest. “It’s in that very spot that a man had died by merely standing!”

They were at the bushes where Briane hid. Thousands of fireflies were fluttering in the air, dancing with the wind, illuminating the path leading to the forest. The bulb on their butts cradled purple light that flickered madly, its colors reflecti

“Look, Zoriah! I don’t know if you’re messing with me or what. You’ve been whining about not being able to help heroes because you lost your eyes, but here I am, trying to give you a solution for your dilemma, yet you’re outright rejecting it. How thick can you get?” Michelle was sitting on a wooden stool—which was literally a trunk of a tree split into six pieces, its other halves placed neatly in the corner. It was hard for her to take Zoriah seriously, especially when her room was filled with vines of different lengths, acting more like a curtain on the wall. On top of that, there were jars, containing slimy liquid and small parts of creatures she couldn’t distinguish, standing in rows on a shelf that looked as though it was about to collapse. If it’s not through the hole in her eyes, Michelle would’ve thought she’s insane. Well, actually, Zoriah’s insane; insanely strong to be able to live without light. “Respect, Child, is bestowed upon my divinity, for it is wh

“Why are we running again?” said Sloane as she halted, putting her hands on her knees. Despite all her attempts to steady her breathing, she still couldn’t collect herself and she felt as though any moment she’d collapse. Briane smirked as he traced his way back to Sloane who was left behind for about twenty meters. He knew she’d give up soon. They were running at full speed for about twenty minutes, and he was ticking off the time Sloane would complain. “What did I tell you, Honeybunch? Didn’t I say you’ll complain soon?” Sloane glared at him, massaging the soreness of her feet. “You’re just arrogant coz you can use your energy to run as fast as you want—” “Well, do not blame me for your inadequacy. Here, hold my hand.” Briane reached out to her, but she merely slapped his hands off. Fumbling on her feet, biting, her lips, Sloane took a deep breath. “I don’t need your help, and for the last time, boy! Stop calling me names! I am Sloane, and I

  • Shadows of the Lost   The Soul that Dwells Within

Sloane had no tolerance whatsoever to wielders claiming they fell in love the first time they set their eyes to someone; though now that she’s staring at Kleint, she couldn’t help but swallow her own words. She had even shunned the thought of him being a cruel murderer at the back of her mind. All she ever wanted at the moment was to cup his pale cheeks, to feel the almost flawless skin of his square-shaped face—excluding, of course, the short hair on his chin—and to lick the Adam’s apple on his sexy-looking neck. She didn’t even bother to look away even after Berry stared at her with furrowed brows. There’s not a man he revered in this entire universe, at least she’s sure of that before. Even Jake who courted here didn’t come close to the perfection of this man before her. He was the replica of the man of her dreams, the man who hunted her wet night, and the man whom she had long waited for eternity. There’s no way the naughty mess of the purple strand of his hair and the w

“You said the child was chained in her psyche plane, right?” said Luis, sitting rigidly at the bunk of stone, lost in the spiral of his thoughts. Kleint nodded as he stared at Z. He was still slumped on the ground, trying to steady his breathing. He must be rusty, to have drained himself with just one technique. Well, he had already amassed massive energy to buy Z and her comrades some time to run away; even so, he needed a new set of training to make up with the years he was unconscious. “What’s with a child being chained inside Z?” Granny walked toward them, her brows furrowed. “I never heard of such a phenomenon, though it might be a different case if it’s her soul. That still doesn’t explain why it’s encaged, but it’s more likely to be the case.” Sighing, Luis closed his eyes. “Whatever the case, we should prioritize the Gorche attached to her—” “We cannot do that.” Kleint shook his head, clenching his fist. “Gourche is a limiter placed upon

In every passing hour, Z’s thoughts played around her fate and the destiny of the people whose trust she owed. She wanted to never disappoint them, to be the wielder they wished her to be. What could she do, though? Everything she knew, everything she planned out was sabotaged now and then, and she could only think that the universe didn’t approve of it… or maybe it was her existence; either way, she’s starting to lose sight of what her goals truly were. “You know that’s not true,” said Kleint, sitting on her bed, caressing her cheeks. It’s been two days. The headmaster decided to erect another tent where Granny could take care of Z as they experimented on her. Their short-term aim was to open up an entry-point from the dimension covering her entire body, but it’s easier said than done. Every time Kleint tried to influence the dimension, both of them would start to weaken, their energy amassing between them and disappeared with a rather small explosion that Kle

  • Shadows of the Lost   I am a Legend

The Mistress of Time was the sister of Goddess Selene that reined the fairytales of wielders. She was said to have wielded the universe, but she fell in love with one of Selene’s creations. Selene forbids her sister from ever touching Henmulga’s child, but she was ever-persistent, so much so that she ended up luring one wielder to the mortal world where she seduced him to sleep with her. It was not known whether they have had a child; however, what had been transcribed to the scriptures was the narrative of how she’s been cursed by defying fate. Selene, of course, didn’t want to hurt her sister, but it was in their nature to bestow divine punishment to those that seek defiance to the borders of what they called ‘morality’. But, the Mistress’ journey of repentance was a valuable story that stirred up morals, at least for most who believed in second chances. It was then that she became the queen of nighttime stories, the goddess who to love was drunk and became a sinner but re

The Gourche was a territory closer to oblivion. Because such an intricate technique was a double-edged sword, trying it had never been an option for most wielders. Not only did it require a massive amount of energy, but it also ate a lot of stamina. This type of sealing technique was rumored to be taught by the Mistress herself. It’s made to counter each of the prowesses of Selene’s children. While it was successful in suppressing the enemy’s might, it failed to protect the clan, for each time a seal was effectively used, a Sylvania ended up sacrificing a life. As the Mistress was the foundation of this technique, Luis believed her when she said that the answers could be found at her back or, in other words, hidden in Z’s memories. That was before he was soaked with sweats, though. Now that he was catching his breath, listening to the wild drum of his heart, he couldn’t help thinking otherwise. It’s been over an hour since thousands of balls of energy were taken insi

Tamaru’s abandonment of the Seirts flew off faster than they could build their own house. As the Seirts were a controversial family, Tamaru’s decision was subjected to scrutiny. While Tamaru was yet to make a statement, the Main Household made it clear to anyone who would listen that his oldest son was no more. Of course, knowing how much the two of them paired in mission, the wielders of Pasithea considered the two of them insuperable, but the truth was otherwise. Rumors spread like wildfire, too. Being a close aide to the Supreme Council, the Seirts created a handful of enemies. Not only were they the ones who put stop to chaos but they’re also the ones who hunt the ones who triggered it, which was why many wielders were just waiting for the right moment to put an end to the arrogance of this clan. A fluke Seirt was unheard of. Not one of them was weak. Not one of them ever tried to run off from the family. They were perfect citizens who were ever-present when ther

  • Shadows of the Lost   Epilogue

The narrative of Z’s past, present, and future were nothing more than proof that Sylvania’s existence qualified as a catalyst for chaos. In the past, her willingness to show her father that she deserved to be heir to Sylvania’s legacy led her to create a forbidden artifact, which transported Zeniah in the future. It had been branded as murder and she’d been condemned, tortured, and was almost killed in front of the apprehensive Forbinians. Her father proved that he could cut off his only heir’s head if it means upholding the law—his law.In her present, she tried to make things right by being a Phantom that sneaked through the criminal’s midst, put an end to their lives, and bring the peace back where it belonged. She thought she was doing what’s right until her father walked in the path of evil and declared war on the Supreme Council. She was then burdened by the responsibility of killing her father, for the Council believed sh

  • Shadows of the Lost   Back at School

The Shadowests wasted no time. Once Briane handed them the note containing the threat, Z immediately told them to prepare, for they would venture an hour after. Marjorie insisted that the Magistrates searched the area thoroughly once again and persuaded Shiela to go with them to the school. Although she wanted to be the one to go there personally, she thought it unwise to just leave the sanctuary of the field; not now that the Phantoms and Magistrate 12 were gaining power. With a rather hasty good-bye, the Shadowests, Kleint, Shiela, and Granny went inside the carriage as Briane rode the Shorne, and they’re off, the Shorne neighing loudly before galloping away. As they sped South, Z started giving out a lump of bread. It barely had some jam, but, as their stomach groaned, it became rather enough. On and on they went, indifferent to the complaints of their stomach that were now hungrier after the bread. The carriage’s usefulness ended when they arrived at th

“Blame’s beyond herself! She keeps doing this over and over, leaving us behind. What does she thinks about us? We’re not a damn child! We can fight, too, if that’s what she’s worried about!”It’s been over three hours, but Briane seemed to have not released all of his anger yet. He kept pacing in front of them, talking, more to himself than to Berry and Sloane who were almost asleep in their seats. He took it as an insult to their friendship and betrayal to their trusts that Z didn’t even consult them before rising into action. What more, she brought that Kleint along with her. They just met, and she would trust her life to him? Whereas he, Briane George, has been her best friend for three years, yet he’s the one left behind. What kind of child-reading had led her to such a decision?Berry’s head lolled on his chest, snoring as the cold breeze of dawn ruffled his hair. Sloane, meanwhile, leaned closer to him,

  • Shadows of the Lost   The Last

Waking up with a start, Z just lay there, staring blankly at the bluish horizon. For a moment there, she didn’t know where she was. She allowed the cold breeze to ruffle her hair, feeling its coldness seeped through her skin, deeper to her flesh. It was a matter of how badly her body throbbed that it took her quite a while to notice that something was sucking the numbness on her chest.Z sighed, looking down at what seemed to be a circular rip on her suit of armor. It was small like a coin, though the tube-like blackness almost kissing it was as big as her clenched fist. If it wasn’t for the sensation that thousands of pins were piercing her body, she would have appreciated the ticklish way to which the tube sucked, spewing the dirt in the corner and slowly sewing the wound as it went. The source of the tube came from an almost shapeless shadow sprawled next to her. Its edges curved in every direction, spikes rising and falling from it, traveling from one p

  • Shadows of the Lost   The Mistress of Time

“I though you’ve died with Luis,” said Dark, resigning back on his throne, still not taking his eyes off of the mistress. The mistress shrugged, ignoring Hail as she prowled toward Dark. “It’s so unlike you to underestimate me, my dear, dear Sylvania. I may be a wreck of my former self, but I can assure your misery with nothing but a flick of my thumb. I am, after all, a Goddess; whereas, you’re a wielder, more of a demi-god whose prowess is under my mercy. Don’t you still understand the vulnerable position you are in?”She was swaying her hand in the air, nullifying each of Hail’s simultaneous balls of water and fire attack. Hail stopped for a moment to catch his breath, looking from the mistress to Dark. When Dark wiggled his forefinger, Hail immediately charged toward the mistress, a mad glint in his eyes as flame raged on his right arm and water streamed on the left, forming into sharp swords. However, the mistr

It’s been over three hours since Z and Kleint entered the Time’s Dimension. Both of them have a cut on the lips, Z’s forehead bleeding, and Kleint’s hand’s throbbing through all the times his energy-based sword had exploded. Dark barely had a dent on his mask. Despite being outnumbered, his strength was still unrivaled, not to mention that the dimension itself was on his side. He could control every inch of it so perfectly that Z had already relieved Kleint of the clock’s strangling hands for hundredth of times.“We need a plan,” Kleint said under his breath, glaring at Dark who resigned on his throne, caressing it with a smirk.Earlier, Kleint had thought Z was through, what’s with her being down, Dark stepping on her back. But it was merely a ruse to catch him off guard, though it didn’t work because he was able to clinch his fist on her leg just as she attempted a kick at his back.Dark and Z were bo

Z spent most of her afternoon sulking in the corner of her tent. She told everyone who ever bothered to check for her that she’s okay and that she needed a little bit of privacy. Again, it was Shiela who made her temper walked out of the line. She was insistent on saying an apology, telling her she didn’t mean to offend her anything. Too many times Z had said it’s alright, but it wasn’t till she screamed did Shiela finally dashed off, still muttering sorry under her breathe.“Are you undecided yet?” said Berry who was standing just at the doorway. He was balancing three pots in his hands and a pail was dangling on his arms.Without looking up, Z wrote her name on the sand, pursing her lips.“Kleint and the others went out for a patrol again. Won’t you go with them? You might be able to see a new light.” He grunted as he bent over to pick the pot that fell over with a rather bouncy sound, groaning loudly as th

The end is near. And those who are not prepared to die are the first one to face the Reaper’s terrible wrath… --- Z had never felt more powerful than when she woke with a start a week ago. Her eyes were madly flickering from pea-green to toxic green. A single twitch of her hand made the wooden bed shook and she ended up bouncing on the ground, the bed crumpled into pieces. She swallowed hard as she looked around. The leather-made wall of the tent looked so fragile next to her eyes. Closing it, she tried to steady her breathing; however, a twig cracked way outside. She jerked her eyes open and a hole singed through
