With the help of the map, which luckily didn’t smell, Michelle and her team successfully traveled North. They’ve been restless for hours and any complaints, groan, whatsoever from Reigna and Cherry were dismissed with a single glare. Karina didn’t mind, but she did feel a little uncomfortable with the way Michelle treated the two kids.

She bet Michelle was yet to move on with the children’s teasing, and it’s funny for her because it was the first time she’d seen her act with less decency. Looking back, her gestures and movement were so fluid no one would be any wiser of the flaws she was trying to hide.

“Is there anything funny?” said Michelle without turning, her eyes moving alternately from the map and the endless and untrodden path, the sun peering from beyond them, together with the thick clouds starting to form in the heaven.

They were walking in the middle of palm trees lined in rows that were

Michelle had a very bad dream. She was walking in the aisle eclipsed with the blackest of shadows. Even as she tried to lift it, the heaviness that’s embedded in it was too much for her to manipulate. What’s more suspicious was the way in which her feet were glued to the ground. It’s as though it never wanted her to move forward. The only one she knew to have mastery in the art of gravity was Karina, but it’s unlikely for her to do this. Not too long since she thought of her, the blackness became lighter. Her brows furrowed as it took her no more than raising a finger to ward them from her vision. It didn’t make any sense. How was it possible that the heaviness earlier vanished just when she thought of a gravity wielder— The answer lies in the fact that she was facing Karina, or more like her evil doppelganger. There’s just no way that the real Karina would look like her head was about to explode, her eyes bulging so hard it’s about to pop. But her feature’s the leas

Michelle hadn’t known much about death. She never wanted to be going directly to it, especially when she’s yet to achieve her dreams. No, unless she’s accomplished, never would this word be branded to her.But no matter how she denied it, she could never overlook the truth that she was drowning, now closer to death than she’d ever been. The waves tossed her everywhere, and she’s starting to lose track of where she was. The coldness, the thickness of the water caressing her skin was the only thing she could feel. Whether or not it’s just her imagination, the fact that she couldn’t feel the other’s presence made shivers ran down to her spine. She knew they weren’t dead, that just like her, they were floating seamlessly in the depth of the ocean, played by the waves and, possibly, by death’s rotting hand.As her heart started beating rapidly, she closed her eyes to make sense of anything, but her heart jer

If there’s something Reigna would choose to change, it would be the passing of her father and her brother. They’re the ones who understood her most, the ones who would comfort her when her mother went on with her crude antics. Don’t get her wrong; she loved her mother, so much so that she always reason out with herself whenever her mother started comparing her with a wielder she knew to be a lot stronger than her daughter. Reigna was not born with much strength. She was fragile even by the standard of wielder her age. She easily got sick, which was why she spent most of her life to either in the walls of her room or in the hospital. It’s sickening, but her father had a way to compensate for the things she was not able to do for the time she’s crippled by flu or whatever. Michelle kept her eyes on Reigna. She was lying unconscious on the shore while Cherry wiped the cold sweats off her forehead. What she did was unexpected, but Michelle somehow believed that it was what the headmaster was referring to when he said they needed to keep Reigna alive. It irked her so much now, especially to the way the headmaster phrased it. Was it likely that she would lose a friend yet again?Speaking of a friend, she still couldn’t believe that they left Jane once again. She didn’t what really happened, but her own eyes witness how Jane swelled. • Shadows of the Lost   Forbinians

The Forbidden City was quite a wealthy land. In the past, it operates in a discreet way that when they trade or negotiate, no one would be able to unravel it until its result showed on their faces. This was heavily influenced by the inclination of Dark to secrets. That said, any affair that was to take place in their Empire never gets its way out.Once, a protector has been tricked to spill some valuable pieces of information about Dark’s kingdom such as its interior and the secret passageway that was used for either secret rituals or negotiations. The protector was able to escape unscathed and was touted as a spy the moment he went back to the Empire. He thought that Dark wouldn’t find out. He was careless, and it was the last thing he did.All he knew was that he was trapped inside a tube as the Forbinians looked him down. He was to be judged right in front of his comrades and his family whose faces shown no mercy. Relative or not, once you’ve done

All Michelle could remember was feeling a stab in the back, and everything was darkness. She wanted to know what happened to the group, whether the enemy was able to take Reigna. If they did, she’s a worthless leader. First, they were separated from Jane, all through the fact that Michelle couldn’t control her emotions. And just as they were reunited again, Hail—now she’s certain of it—made it sure that it would be the last they would see each other. She never wanted to accept it, but the facts were presented right before her eyes, ever-clearer than before. There was something about Reigna that she couldn’t explain. Maybe that’s why the enemy was after her; but what she couldn’t swallow was for Hail to do try such a cruel technique to a comrade, all so he could get a hold of Reigna. She knew full well that when it activates, once done right, it would certainly explode and kill its host in the process. Their father was the one who taught it to them, with him as the host, conf

If Briane had a hard time accepting Blame’s death, it was even harder for him to believe that she was alive. Michelle might be a prick, a freak even, but she would never utter a lie, let alone be firm with it. In truth, that’s what made her so annoying. She spoke of the truth without even toning down. That said, she was the one who affirmed that Blame had turned to ashes right before her eyes. But if that’s true and the Blame standing in front of them, carrying the wielders they were looking for, then what had really happened?Briane kept her stares on Blame that whole night. He didn’t speak a word, but he was hoping against all hope that Blame wouldn’t disappear. Berry even nudged him to stop him from eating Blame with his stares. He didn’t listen. “I felt nothing at first, but as I plummet further, everything inside me constricted, like something in there was being twisted. It was the worst!”Sloane and Berry were sitting inside the carriage. Sloane has been talking for about an hour, but she was showing no sign of relenting. Berry merely leaned on his seat, his eyes closed, his hand on his temple. He couldn’t forget the fact that Blame just did a technique Dark had used to eliminate the whole school. As far as he knew, Blame Seirt was famously known for being able to read and manipulate someone’s thought, and never was it possible for a Wielder to shift from one ability to another; let alone have two, so it’s either she was not the real Blame or she’s insanely strong enough to withstand two abilities. He groaned when his head started aching. Thinking was his specialty; however, Blame’s circumstances were just way beyond him.“Hey!” Sloane blurted out.

  • Shadows of the Lost   Epilogue

The narrative of Z’s past, present, and future were nothing more than proof that Sylvania’s existence qualified as a catalyst for chaos. In the past, her willingness to show her father that she deserved to be heir to Sylvania’s legacy led her to create a forbidden artifact, which transported Zeniah in the future. It had been branded as murder and she’d been condemned, tortured, and was almost killed in front of the apprehensive Forbinians. Her father proved that he could cut off his only heir’s head if it means upholding the law—his law.In her present, she tried to make things right by being a Phantom that sneaked through the criminal’s midst, put an end to their lives, and bring the peace back where it belonged. She thought she was doing what’s right until her father walked in the path of evil and declared war on the Supreme Council. She was then burdened by the responsibility of killing her father, for the Council believed sh

  • Shadows of the Lost   Back at School

The Shadowests wasted no time. Once Briane handed them the note containing the threat, Z immediately told them to prepare, for they would venture an hour after. Marjorie insisted that the Magistrates searched the area thoroughly once again and persuaded Shiela to go with them to the school. Although she wanted to be the one to go there personally, she thought it unwise to just leave the sanctuary of the field; not now that the Phantoms and Magistrate 12 were gaining power. With a rather hasty good-bye, the Shadowests, Kleint, Shiela, and Granny went inside the carriage as Briane rode the Shorne, and they’re off, the Shorne neighing loudly before galloping away. As they sped South, Z started giving out a lump of bread. It barely had some jam, but, as their stomach groaned, it became rather enough. On and on they went, indifferent to the complaints of their stomach that were now hungrier after the bread. The carriage’s usefulness ended when they arrived at th

  • Shadows of the Lost   Threat

“Blame’s beyond herself! She keeps doing this over and over, leaving us behind. What does she thinks about us? We’re not a damn child! We can fight, too, if that’s what she’s worried about!”It’s been over three hours, but Briane seemed to have not released all of his anger yet. He kept pacing in front of them, talking, more to himself than to Berry and Sloane who were almost asleep in their seats. He took it as an insult to their friendship and betrayal to their trusts that Z didn’t even consult them before rising into action. What more, she brought that Kleint along with her. They just met, and she would trust her life to him? Whereas he, Briane George, has been her best friend for three years, yet he’s the one left behind. What kind of child-reading had led her to such a decision?Berry’s head lolled on his chest, snoring as the cold breeze of dawn ruffled his hair. Sloane, meanwhile, leaned closer to him,

  • Shadows of the Lost   The Last

Waking up with a start, Z just lay there, staring blankly at the bluish horizon. For a moment there, she didn’t know where she was. She allowed the cold breeze to ruffle her hair, feeling its coldness seeped through her skin, deeper to her flesh. It was a matter of how badly her body throbbed that it took her quite a while to notice that something was sucking the numbness on her chest.Z sighed, looking down at what seemed to be a circular rip on her suit of armor. It was small like a coin, though the tube-like blackness almost kissing it was as big as her clenched fist. If it wasn’t for the sensation that thousands of pins were piercing her body, she would have appreciated the ticklish way to which the tube sucked, spewing the dirt in the corner and slowly sewing the wound as it went. The source of the tube came from an almost shapeless shadow sprawled next to her. Its edges curved in every direction, spikes rising and falling from it, traveling from one p

  • Shadows of the Lost   The Mistress of Time

“I though you’ve died with Luis,” said Dark, resigning back on his throne, still not taking his eyes off of the mistress. The mistress shrugged, ignoring Hail as she prowled toward Dark. “It’s so unlike you to underestimate me, my dear, dear Sylvania. I may be a wreck of my former self, but I can assure your misery with nothing but a flick of my thumb. I am, after all, a Goddess; whereas, you’re a wielder, more of a demi-god whose prowess is under my mercy. Don’t you still understand the vulnerable position you are in?”She was swaying her hand in the air, nullifying each of Hail’s simultaneous balls of water and fire attack. Hail stopped for a moment to catch his breath, looking from the mistress to Dark. When Dark wiggled his forefinger, Hail immediately charged toward the mistress, a mad glint in his eyes as flame raged on his right arm and water streamed on the left, forming into sharp swords. However, the mistr

It’s been over three hours since Z and Kleint entered the Time’s Dimension. Both of them have a cut on the lips, Z’s forehead bleeding, and Kleint’s hand’s throbbing through all the times his energy-based sword had exploded. Dark barely had a dent on his mask. Despite being outnumbered, his strength was still unrivaled, not to mention that the dimension itself was on his side. He could control every inch of it so perfectly that Z had already relieved Kleint of the clock’s strangling hands for hundredth of times.“We need a plan,” Kleint said under his breath, glaring at Dark who resigned on his throne, caressing it with a smirk.Earlier, Kleint had thought Z was through, what’s with her being down, Dark stepping on her back. But it was merely a ruse to catch him off guard, though it didn’t work because he was able to clinch his fist on her leg just as she attempted a kick at his back.Dark and Z were bo

  • Shadows of the Lost   Father and Daughter

Z spent most of her afternoon sulking in the corner of her tent. She told everyone who ever bothered to check for her that she’s okay and that she needed a little bit of privacy. Again, it was Shiela who made her temper walked out of the line. She was insistent on saying an apology, telling her she didn’t mean to offend her anything. Too many times Z had said it’s alright, but it wasn’t till she screamed did Shiela finally dashed off, still muttering sorry under her breathe.“Are you undecided yet?” said Berry who was standing just at the doorway. He was balancing three pots in his hands and a pail was dangling on his arms.Without looking up, Z wrote her name on the sand, pursing her lips.“Kleint and the others went out for a patrol again. Won’t you go with them? You might be able to see a new light.” He grunted as he bent over to pick the pot that fell over with a rather bouncy sound, groaning loudly as th

Her eyes were madly flickering from pea-green to toxic green. A single twitch of her hand made the wooden bed shook and she ended up bouncing on the ground, the bed crumpled into pieces. She swallowed hard as she looked around. The leather-made wall of the tent looked so fragile next to her eyes. Closing it, she tried to steady her breathing; however, a twig cracked way outside. She jerked her eyes open and a hole singed through
