Chapter Twenty - Carine

These two! Carine thought as she toured the couple around to look at the dogs.

Some people, not many but some, treated the rescue centre as if it was a zoo, coming here with no intention to adopt any of them but to look and make loving sounds before leaving and never coming back. Annoyance gripped her chest as she knew this was one such couple. Wasting her time and winding the dogs up was the worst kind of selfish cruelty anyone was capable of and she despised them for it.

“I just don’t see anything that’s going to be a good fit,” Jeff said with a superior attitude. “Maybe we should come back in a while to see if there is something better.”

Better? What’s wrong with any of these dogs? Most people would be overjoyed to take any one of them.

Her frustration turned to anger as the couple looked at her with their lying faces and smiled.
