35 Thin Air (Flashback)

The old man’s revelation ran a shiver through Hugo. The young woman who had made him feel the happiest he had ever felt was missing. Gabriel had a good reason to be nervous after all. The matter directly involved his master and he didn't dare to interfere in it without Hugo’s direct orders. Hugo still needed specifics.

“What happened?”

“I woke up in the morning to the smell of burning omelets. I checked around and Camila was nowhere to be found. I thought she was out shopping. I waited and waited. She doesn't have many friends either,” the father pleaded.

Hugo had the gears turning in his head. It was almost midnight. The kind of a woman Camila was, she wouldn't wander about for too long without letting her family know. It made Hugo anxious. He was pacing across the room.

“Did she say anything? Anything at all?” Hugo asked the father, trying to get a clue. A part of him feared if she had second thoughts about his proposal but couldn't gather the courage to say anything and ran away
