Chapter 19

Eva Thompson's revelation caught her by surprise; she knew nothing about him, but at no time did she consider the possibility that he had a fiancée. She didn't want to ask that question, but before she knew it, she was already confronting him.

"Why the surprise in your eyes, is there any objection?" he asked, with a strange tone, as if mocking her behavior.

"No, there's none," she replied, trying to compose herself.

"Actually, she’s not my fiancée yet, but we are about to formalize the engagement, so it's only a matter of time until it happens."

"I understand, sir," she replied, embarrassed. "If you don't need anything else, I'll leave now to go to the flower shop."

"You can buy a bouquet for yourself too," he said.

"Why?" she asked, confused.

"You said you've never received flowers; consider it a gift from me."

"I don't need that," she replied.

"As you wish," he said. "I’m just trying to be kind."

"Thank you for your kindness," she retorted. "But I don't need it."
