Deadly Misunderstanding

Chapter 6

She pulls daggers from her sleeves and approaches Axel with caution. Axel, on the other hand, eventually gives up on trying to persuade Selina.

“I don't have a choice.” Axel chimed in.

Stabbing - swinging - stabbing!

Selina decides to take initiative to go first and attack Axel. Her quick movements gave her a huge advantage.

With no way to defend himself, Axel is forced to simply dodge the attacks.

'Why are all of her attacks so difficult to understand? If this continues, my neck will soon leave my body.' He mumbles.

Stab - swing - stab!

Drip.

“Your left cheek has turned redder than usual, Axel,” Selina mocked.

He wipes his left cheek to check the extent of the wound caused from Selina's attack.

‘I'm not sure whether I'm happy or sad about this wound. The wound is healed, but who knows what poison she has on her dagger?’

Axel's left cheek is swollen from the attack he thought he had avoided.

'However, thanks to this cut, I now have the necessary time to plan my attack. This is the reality I must face before I am killed.'

Axel closed his eyes to ask forgiveness from his sister in Heaven, “Please forgive my sin sister. I'm going to have to break one of my promises.”

“It is unwise to ignore me like that.”

Selina has already moved into attacking range with her dagger as he reopens his eyes, saying hello to Axel's left eye.

Stab.

Axel manages to dodge to the left with a split second of momentum. From this point forward, Axel will attack.

To get rid of the dagger, he's pinning Selina's wrist with his knee and elbow. He continues his assault with a powerful punch to her waist.

Selina did not flinch nor fall to the ground from that attack, seeing this Axel compliment her will.

“You're one tough lady to take that punch.”

“You dirty rat! It takes more than that to bring me down!”

Spit!

Selina reaches out with her injured hand, aiming for Axel's right side of the face. Her elbow struck his jaw.

“That hurt a bit, Selina.”

She straightened her left arm, aiming the mini gun at Axel's right chest, seeing there wasn't much damage.

Bang! Bang!

Although Axel managed to avoid the first shot, Selina’s second one success to penetrate his body.

Drip.

Blood gushed from his right thoracic cavity “Argh! Selina, where the hell did you get that gun?”

“A dead man doesn't have time to whine!”

As if beating Selina, who was still standing, wasn't enough, Axel took a martial stand and delivered a high kick to her side of the face.

Selina was fortunate enough to avoid the kick, but losing her mini gun is the price she must pay in order to survive it.

Axel tries to launch a similar attack on her. However, because she was already familiar with the attack, Selina began by grabbing his leg and throwing Axel to the ground, relying on the strength of her opponent's attack.

Thud.

Both are thrown to the ground at the same time. Selina refuses to accept that there is someone she cannot kill with her own hands.

Gasp – gasp

Selina was the first to take a step back, followed by Axel, who appeared tired from all of the fights.

“Why won't you die peacefully, Axel?” In frustration, Selina inquires.

“I'm not going to die until I get what I want!” Axel responded.

Selina wishes to put an end to the conflict she has started with Axel. Surprisingly, her body is dripping an unbearable cold sweat.

Thud.

She has lost her balance, causing her to fall on her own without being attacked by Axel.

“You cretin!!! What did you do to me??!!”

“Phew… Finally, the drug is working. It takes more than ten hours to activate inside your body.”

“It is impossible for me to fall for such a cheap trick-”

“Yes, you did Selina. The moment you filled your hungry belly with my delicious home-made pasta.”

“You despicable cop… I swear to pay… you back, Axel...” Selina has finally lost her consciousness.

“I refused to believe it. She had been drugged, but her will to fight gave her the ability to resist the effect for a short period of time.”

Axel couldn't help but cast death glares at Selina, who had just aimed a sharp dagger at his neck.

“So, what should I do next? If I save her and try to clear up this irritating misunderstanding, she will try to kill me again. But if I leave her alone, someone will do something bad to her. This is Norland City After all.” he pondered.

Axel reaches for a pendant hidden beneath his shirt, flips it open, and whines while peering inside.

“So, sis, what should I do? Is it okay if I leave her? After all, she is an assassin! Even if she was kidnapped by a bad guy, she would escape on her own!”

The annoyance and stress he felt for Selina were all directed at the lady on the pendant he was wearing.

As in a child crying to their sister because another child in the neighborhood is tease them.

“Fine! I'll bring her back to our house as redemption for breaking my promise to you.”

He reinserted the pendant beneath his shirt, and he was dissatisfied with himself for once again assisting Selina.

'This is the second time I've had to carry you, Selina.'

He sighs in a squat position. He's going insane because he has to take Selina back to his house again.

“Urgh, it's so heavy! Did she gain weight in a single day?”

Stomp... stomp... stomp...

'Just a little bit more and I'll be able to let go of this pain in the ass woman. After living here for so long, this is the first time I've missed my house so much.'

Creak.

Axel was finally able to enter his house after some strenuous walking. He sat Selina on the same couch he sat her on the first time he met her.

The thought of her attacking him in his sleep, on the other hand, makes Axel shiver.

'Just... for safety... I'm not into this kind of thing.'

Axel has taken action to thwart Selina's surprise attack. Nonetheless, for unknown reasons, he feels terrible about what he did.

‘Sis, please give me your advice so that I can stay on the right track.’

That night, faint groaning sounds were heard from Axel, who was attempting to extract a bullet from his body while also stitching up the wound.

“This morning I stitched someone, but tonight I have to take a bullet and stitch my own chest. What a day it has been in my life.”

“Wake up, you disgraced human being.”

“WAKE UP!!!”

Fall.

“Is it wrong to work for a few hours of peaceful sleep? Why do you bother me so much, Selina?”

“Do you have any feelings of shame? The innocent is granted a peaceful life, whereas a two-faced jerk like you should be living an unpeaceful life.”

“That's special coming from an assassin who almost assassinated her savior a few hours before.”

“Your phony kindness can no longer fool me, Axel. Speak up, what results did you get after informing the Black Circle that their target was still alive?”

“Nothing!! I obtain nothing from them, because I don't even know you are on their target list. I came to Black Circle to ask for the one who murdered my sister, nothing more than that.”

“Why should I believe in a dirty cop like you, Axel?”

“The fact that you are still alive is reason enough for you to understand that I am not associated with Black Circle. Furthermore, I am no longer a cop.”

After listening to Axel's reasoning, Selina falls silent. In fact, she comes to terms with her inability to see the big picture and is carried away by the fantasy that everyone is out to get her.

“Why have you suddenly become quiet? Have you finally realized how much of a mistake you'd made?”

“Yes I am.”

“You what, Selina? Please elaborate.”

“Yes, I understand that my mistake in associating you with Black Circle was due to a misunderstanding. Are you happy, Axel?”

“More or less.”

“Then untie me-”

“So you can go after my throat again? No thank you, I still need this one not-so-meaningful life Selina.”

“I promise you, Axel, I won't do anything to you.”

“Why should I believe an assassin?” he asked.

“You obstinate jerk. Okay, I, Selina Maya Hayes, swear in the name of my father that I will no longer pursue Axel's life. If I break this oath, my family will go to Hell, and our children will die horribly.”

“...”

“Happy? Now, Axel, untie me!!!”

Axel unties her tie, fear still lingering in his mind. To minimize any danger, he shoots a stare at every nook and cranny of Selina's body.

“Did you happen to find it?”

“What do you mean?” Axel responded.

“The person who killed your sister?”

“No, not yet. I didn't have anything appropriate to offer elder Raisen.”

“If I were you, Axel, I would not put my trust in her. She is a deceptive woman to have a contract with.”

“Why should I believe any of this? Have you met with her Selina, the elder?”

“We not only met, but we also have unfinished business to discuss. She betrayed both me and Jason Hayes, the owner of Black Circle.”

“Jason Hayes, did you say? Is he your father?”

“More or less. He is the one who raised me after my father's death.”

“I am sorry to hear that, Selina. However, going against Black Circle all by yourself is a total suicide, no matter how skilled of an assassin you are.”

Selina exudes confidence; she has found the one who will join her in avenging her revenge against the Black Circle.

“I propose a contract with you, Axel.”

“What??!! What exactly are you on about, Selina?”

Selina's proposal sounds like a thunderclap from the middle of the night, completely unexpected.

“As I mentioned to Axel, I propose a deal: I will get you the name of the assassin who killed your sister in exchange for your assistance in eliminating Black Circle's administrators.”

“Your offer, Selina, is too risky for me. I'm afraid I'll have to decline-”

“You shouldn't have had to fight directly; gathering information should have sufficed.”

“Information? A person like you, who ambushed people out of nowhere, requires information assistance.” Axel's voice was becoming more assertive.

“In most cases, I don't need anyone's assistance. But for the time being, I have no choice but to find someone who can easily enter the Black Circle.”

“Let me get this straight Selina, you want to take advantage of my appointment with elder Raisen to your favor?”

“It is exactly what you said, Axel. I'd like you to remember how many floors, doors, and people you had to go through to meet Raisen.”

“My last chance to see her will be next week. If you want me to be your eyes and ears, you have to provide me with something valuable not just a sweet promise of giving me what I want. By then, Selina, I will gladly enter into the contract with you.”

“I am your bait, Axel. Take advantage of the fact that Selina Hayes, the treacherous betrayer is still alive and you will be able to converse on the same level as Raisen. However, I cannot guarantee your safety from other assassins, who will almost certainly come after you to dig more information about my whereabouts.”

“Let’s listen to your plan first, Selina!”
